AN: Okay so I wrote this to appease my muse after last night's episode. If you're TeamLucas, you may not want to read this.

There you stand open heart, opened doors

Full of life with the world that's wanting more

But I can see when the light starts to fade

The day is done and your smile has gone away

-Trading Yesterday "May I"

The sun shone bright today and only a light breeze blew. It was a beautiful day.

It seemed weird that she should notice the weather on a day like today. A day that they had laid to rest a member of this town. A man that she had considered a friend. A man who had showed feelings for her on more than one occasion.

Lucas had brought a bit of mystery to their little town. His ways had brought suspicion at first but he had soon charmed them all, and he was quite a charmer. Maybe that was why she had always felt hesitant about returning his feelings toward her.

Still, he had done a lot of good for this town. He had opened their lives to new things. He had entertained with his tricks and provided a library from his generosity.

But he was gone now. Shot while interceding into a disagreement between two poker players from out of town. Perhaps it would have been better for him to wait until the law had showed up but that had never been Bouchard's way. If trouble arose in his saloon he was going to try to put out the embers before flame erupted.

He had gotten in over his head this time around.

As she looked at the grave stone, Elizabeth was surprised by her feelings. Yes, she was sad Lucas was gone. He had been a good friend. However, she wasn't devastated like she had been when Jack had died.

And she was relieved that it wasn't someone else's name etched in the stone instead.

Perhaps that told her everything that she needed to know.
