If you saw through my eyes
This view was worth the climb
Believe me when I say
There's no place in this world I'd rather be

Standing at the front of the church, with the pastor and Bill as his best man, Nathan waited for his bride to make her appearance. He could feel his heart pounding in his chest and more than once Bill had reminded him to breath. He couldn't believe how nervous he felt. He felt like a schoolboy again, telling a girl that he liked her for the first time.
This was ridiculous. He was Mountie. He had hunted down criminals, faced people with guns, even went to war. Now, he was nervous simply waiting for the woman he loved to make her way down the aisle.
What if she didn't show? What if she changed her mind and decided she'd rather be with Lucas instead? What if something happened?
He felt two hands come to rest on his shoulders. "Breathe, so I'm not the one kissing the groom when you pass out," Bill told him, the amusement clear in his voice.
Nathan took a deep breath and let it out slowly, even managing a smile at Bill's comment. That was definitely not the scene he wanted Elizabeth to show up to.
"She'll be here on time," Bill reassured him, giving his shoulders a squeezed before letting go.
Nathan nodded, not trusting his voice right then. He just hoped that when it was time to say his vows he would be able to speak.
And then the church door opened. At the piano, Rosemary began the wedding march. First came Opal, tossing flower petals in the air. Next was Ally, serving as Elizabeth's maid of honor. His niece was beaming as she walked down the aisle.
Then Elizabeth stepped into view, her arm looped through Lee's as her own father hadn't been able to make the trip for this wedding. He felt his breath catch as he stared at her. Elizabeth looked radiant. Her smile, even with the hint of sadness in it, lit up her face. Nathan knew she was thinking of Jack at little today, as she had in the past few weeks. He was okay with that. Jack had shaped the Elizabeth that he knew. She wouldn't be the same person without those experiences. He didn't expect her to forget Jack just because she was marrying him. He didn't want her to. He wanted to help her keep Jack alive for little Jack in the years to come.
He just hoped that Jack Thorton was looking down on them today and giving his blessing to their union.
After all the ups and downs over the past two years, Elizabeth was about to become his wife. It somehow made all the awkward moments and heartaches worth it. Elizabeth was the woman he loved, and all he wanted to do was make her happy for the rest of their days.
