Well I, believe, it all, is coming to an end
Oh well, I guess, we're gonna pretend,
Let's see how far we've come
Let's see how far we've come
-Matchbox Twenty "How Far We've Come"
They were going to leave Hope Valley.
It shouldn't surprise her really. They always left eventually. It was part of her Uncle Nathan's job.
Besides, this was the promotion that her uncle had wanted. It made sense that he would take it, now that it had been offered to him.
Part of her wished they hadn't waited so long to give it to him. At least then she wouldn't know what she would be missing here in Hope Valley.
Still, she would hold her tongue. This was her Uncle's decision. He had already made sacrifices by taking her in. She was old enough to realize that. Her own father had walked away from her but her Uncle Nathan had stepped in. He had made sure that she wasn't alone. Had told her about her mother to help her keep from forgetting her. Had put a roof over her head, clothed her and made sure she had something to eat. When the rest of her world was changing, Uncle Nathan had always been there.
Standing in his way of the job he had always wanted would be ungrateful. She knew that.
At the same time though, she didn't want to leave Hope Valley. She had made friends here. She had a teacher that didn't just care about the school work but about her students as a whole. She felt safe. Even when her Uncle Nathan had to be away, she knew that someone would look out for her. It was what this town did.
Uncle Nathan had been making connections as well. Her Uncle had always been a quiet man. He had always kept to himself. However, she had seen a change in him over the past year. He had seemed more at ease. He smiled more. He laughed more.
She had thought perhaps he had felt the same way about Hope Valley as she had.
However, apparently that wasn't enough. Apparently the promotion was more of a pull.
Well, she wasn't going to be the one that ruined that. As long as she had Uncle Nathan she would be okay, no matter where she went. Moving around was just the life of a Mountie. It was her life. She had survived before and she would continue to survive.
It didn't mean she wouldn't be crying inside.
