Chp. 2: Worlds' Attention
Beacon Academy, Vale
Headmaster's Office
June 15, 2020
It had been three days since the merging of Earth and Remnant. Inside the headmaster's office, Professor Glynda Goodwitch was sitting behind Professor Ozpin's desk watching a holographic screen which displayed a live newscast on Vale News Network. Lisa Lavender is in the shot with an image of a fleet of U.S. battleships.
"It had been three days since the mysterious light had engulfed everything in sight, which resulted in our world of Remnant merging with a new world called Earth according to the Council. They had stated that this new world is the home of the unknown militaries that have shown up all over Remnant. The CCT is still unable to contact Atlas or Mistral, or how they are handling the situation at this time. All businesses and trade, including Beacon Academy, has been temporarily shut down until further notice, and the situation is the same from Vacuo," Lisa reported.
Glynda sighed in exhaustion, while massaging her head with her fingers. Suddenly, the screen beeped and displayed a hollow-message which read 'Incoming Call.' Glynda sighs in annoyance.
"Answer," she spoke.
The screen changed to a live feed of the three members of the Vale Council.
"Yes. What is it this time?' Glynda asked.
"Goodwitch, we've called to check on the condition of Beacon Academy, since Ozpin isn't around to manage his duties as Headmaster," the first councilman answered.
"The students hailing from Vacuo and Vale have all been sent home. But the students hailing from Atlas and Mistral are still unable to go back. So they were allowed to stay until a compromise was made," Glynda explained. "And as I have explained to you several times already, Professor Ozpin is currently in one of the nations of Earth to create diplomatic ties."
"That is not for him to decide," the second councilman said.
"They have asked for him to be there because they have known him longer than any of us. He knows what he's doing," Glynda said.
"He'd better. For his sake," the first councilman said.
The faceless councilmen video feed disappears as Glynda shakes her head.
"Dicks," she muttered in frustration.
Suddenly, A chirping beep sounds repeatedly. Glynda looks up to see a hollow-message "Access Requested" on his desk.
"Come in," she said.
The elevator doors open to reveal Professor Peter Port and Doctor Bartholomew Oobleck as they approach their fellow staff member.
"This is incredible! Simply incredible! History of the making! I must find out everything about this new world as soon as I can!" Oobleck said.
"To think that there's another world out there. Untamed wilds, here I come!" Port said.
"What do you two want?" Glynda asked.
"Why didn't you two tell us that you have already made contact with the new world?" Port asked.
"And why didn't you tell us that Team GRMA and Team CFDT were natives of that world?" Oobleck asked. "There are many questions I must ask them!"
"For the time being it was meant to be kept a secret from the public to prevent panic. We planned to break the news to all of Remnant slowly, but unfortunately due unforeseen circumstances, things took a slight change of plan," Glynda explained.
"Right. Right. The panic would have attracted Grimm," Oobleck said.
"So what do we do now? With Professor Ozpin in this new world?" Port asked.
"Right now, all we can do is wait," Glynda answered.
Atlas Academy, Atlas
Headmaster's Office
Meanwhile in the Kingdom of Atlas, General James Ironwood sat behind his desk doing some paperwork. The doors slid open revealing Winter Schnee, Penny Polendina, and Sergeant Alexey Belitrov as they approached him.
"Schnee. Penny. Sergeant Belitrov. What's the situation with... everything going on here?" Ironwood asked.
"The people of Atlas are still trying to process the fact that Remnant has now become a part of Earth," Winter answered.
"And the same can be said for Mantle. Robyn Hill and the Happy Huntresses are doing their best to keep the citizens calm," Penny added.
"My fellow comrades back at base can hold out for now. This cold tundra is nothing new to us," Alexey said.
"And the Canadians?" Ironwood asked.
"I have contacted the Canadian base and they've reported the same conditions as the Russians," Penny answered.
"The media is having a frenzy with this entire situation and father is trying to take advantage of this whole thing," Winter said.
"I don't need to be reminded of that last part," Ironwood sighed. "He's still bitter about the conversation he had with President Trump. And I've got to admit, it's a bit satisfying to see Jacques meet his match."
"Now I'm quite curious to see how the conversation turned out," Winter said.
"All I can say is that it was brutal," Ironwood said.
"Jacques would probably try to get back at Trump if he were to win the seat on the council," Penny said.
"I highly doubt he will win. Mainly for two reasons. One, Watts isn't around to help him and we're making sure to keep it that way. Two, once everyone finds out about the show and witnesses his actions, there's no way they'll want to vote for him," Ironwood said.
"Exactly. The bastard isn't exactly popular," Alexey said.
"Speaking of the show, how do you think everyone will react?" Winter asked.
"Not too well I'd imagine," Alexey answered. "I mean how did you react when you found out that to us, you guys were nothing but characters to a web show?"
"Good point," Winter said.
"Let's just hope that their reactions to it won't be too extreme," Ironwood said.
Washington D.C., USA
Hilton Washington DC National Mall
Meanwhile at night in a hotel room inside the Hilton Washington DC National Mall, Captain Keaton Gordon, Sergeant Cassandra Rogers, Sergeant Alex Barker, and Private Henry 'Steel' Simon were all in a hotel room. Steel was watching the news on the television as Alex and Cassandra were watching other news channels on their laptops. Keaton was sitting behind a desk in front of his laptop typing.
"Man. The media's gone crazy with all this Remnant shit going on. From CNN, to Fox News, to CBS, to Newsmax, to MSNBC, etcetera," Alex said.
"Everyone's gone crazy. Radio and podcast show hosts like Rush Limbaugh and Ben Shapiro are having migraines over all this," Steel said.
"And who wouldn't? That fact that a world of fiction is not only reality, but is now a part of our world is overwhelming," Cassandra said.
"Speaking of overwhelming, I've gotten reports that Somalia, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Djibouti, and bits of Sudan and Kenya are being overrun with Grimm in just a few days because they've become neighbors with the Dragon Continent," Steel said.
"Some people out there are even going as far as to say that this whole thing was an act of God and that he has a plan for all of us in all this," Alex said.
"And speaking of which, how would people react once they find out about the existence of the Brother Gods? Would some people's religious views change, or what? I mean, people within the religious community are gonna have some words about this," Steel said.
"All in all, we have new orders over all this," Keaton said.
"Yeah, that'll be fun," Alex sarcastically said with an eyeroll.
"So how goes that report for that meeting in the Supreme Court?" Cassandra asked.
"Just about finished. But being trapped in a room full of politicians won't be fun though," Keaton answered.
"Especially since some of those politicians who are leftists won't make it easy for you. Especially those who hate President Trump with a passion," Steel said.
"Yeah, they're gonna try to use Remnant for their own political gain no doubt," Alex said.
"And try to twist up my words to make us and Remnant look bad," Keaton said.
"I just know that it's gonna be a shit show," Steel said.
"Not to mention not only you'd have to protect all the Huntsmen from backlash, but also Jacob since he's training to be one of them," Cassandra said.
"That's why we've got to win this," Keaton said.
"We will. I know we will," Alex said.
