I shut my eyes, but my world's still burning

I can't escape, I feel it killing me

No way out

Here I am again

I shut my eyes, but my world's still burning

I can't escape, I feel it killing me

No way out

Here I am again

-As It Is "No Way Out"

"From now on, you leave the law an order to me," Bill told the newcomer.

"Ah, yeah. I can't do that."

"Why not?"

"Because I'm your new Mountie. Nathan Grant."

Jesse could feel his heart sink at the words. Leaning forward he shut his eyes and leaned his head against the bars of the cell.

This was not going to end well. It was bad enough that he was in jail for fighting. Being in jail because he punched a Mountie was definitely worse. Somehow he didn't think the 'I didn't know he was a Mountie' line was going to help him much.

He wasn't exactly proud of his past. He had done things that he regretted. It hadn't been easy to put those things behind him but he was trying.

Just when he felt like he had been making progress he let his temper get the best of him.

Why hadn't the Mountie just let me hit Bouchard?, Jesse thought. Yes, he would still be in trouble but not as much. He wondered how much jail time hitting a Mountie could come with?

Raising his head, he looked across the room at the newcomer. He and Bill were still staring at each other.

"That punch really wasn't meant for you," Jesse tried again, though his words seemed not to have been heard.

His best hope was that the new Mountie would be so annoyed with Bill throwing him in a jail cell that he'd overlook the transgression.

Jesse back-up in the cell. When he felt the bed behind him he sat down.

Somehow he didn't think he was going to be that lucky.
