AN; Just a little introspective from the episdoe "A Call From The Past". Hope you enjoy it!

I feel weighed down

By the thoughts in my head I try to keep

But I'm so far

From the place where I thought that I would be

-Set It Off "Unspoken"

He had come to Hope Valley to escape his past. It was a chance for him to start over. To change the things about his past that he wasn't so proud of.

However, it had met leaving Jenny behind.

Helping her was the only time in his life that he had cheated. Leaving her behind was the hardest thing about coming to Hope Valley. However, she hadn't felt the same way about him. He was a friend. That was al he would ever be.

Staying and knowing that just hadn't been an option. However, that didn't mean he had stopped caring about her. It didn't mean he wouldn't do anything to protect her -even kill for her.

But Constable Grant was right, as much as that pained him to admit. He was too far away. He couldn't be sure what would happen between now and the time he got there. By the time he got to Cape Fullerton it could be too late.

The Mounties in Cape Fullerton were in a better position to help her. He only hoped that anyone involved wasn't on Amos Dixon's payroll. But either way he was taking a chance. Being a gambler, it was something that he was use to. His instincts told him that the better odds were with getting the help of the Mounties.

Perhaps he should have gone to Constable Grant when he had first gotten the call. If he had, he might already know that Jenny was safe. That's what mattered. He didn't care if Dixon came for him. He'd relish the chance to face the man again. As long as nobody else was at risk, he'd take his chances.

Perhaps he still would. Though making sure Jenny was safe was his first priority it didn't change the fact that as long as Amos was free, both he and Jenny were in danger. He wasn't sure what the Mounties could do about that. At least not until Dixon tried something.

Still, if Dixon did come looking for him he supposed it wouldn't hurt to have the law on his side.

He had left Cape Fullerton to escape his past. Apparently he hadn't run far enough.
