Chp. 29: Aloha, Hawaii!

Hawaii State Capitol

In the state capital city of Honolulu, Ruby, Oscar, Ronin, Rin, Bolin, Allen, Sage, Neptune, Yatsuhashi, Reese, Dove, Sky, Penny, Cade, Maria, and Qrow were all inside the the governor's office in the Hawaiian state capitol building. They were all facing an old man sitting behind his desk. The man has graying slick back hair and a mustache. He wore a pale blue Hawaiian short sleeve dress shirt with white patterned flowers, olive green dress pants, and a pair of black dress shoes.
"I am pleased to see that you all could make it here. My name is David Ige, Democratic governor of Hawaii," the man known as Governor Ide introduced himself.
"Hi," Ruby greeted with a small wave.
"What's up?" Qrow waved.
"So what are we all here for? What are these kids' missions?" Maria asked.
"There have been some Grimm activity going on in Hawaii, mostly outside of Honolulu, Ms. Calavera. Atfirst they came in very few numbers. We thought we could handle it at first, but more and more keep coming by the day. And it's starting to get to the point where it's overwhelming our law enforcement," Ide explained.
"So you want us to search around outside the city and find out what's causing the Grimm here?" Qrow asked.
"Yes. Do what you must. I'm not sure how much longer until the Grimm actually reach the city," Ide said.
"You can count on us, Governor!" Ruby said.
"We're combat ready!" Penny exclaimed.
"So which areas have the most Grimm activity?" Oscar asked.
"Waikiki Beach and the south side of the Summit of Diamond Head Crater. They mostly appear within those areas," Ide answered.
"We'll split up into two teams," Qrow said. "I'll take Neptune, Dove, Sage, Sky, Bolin, and Reese to the summit. The rest will go with the Grimm Reaper to Waikiki Beach."
"I'll fly around the south of the area and see if I can see some Grimm," Penny said.
"I'll join Penny and search from the waters," Cade said.
"Radio us all back when you find anything," Qrow said.
"Why do they get to the beach?! And not us?!" Sky asked.
"You would all get distracted easily," Qrow answered with a raised eyebrow.
"No we won't," Neptune argued.
"Then I guess you guys won't mind that I'll go shopping for a swimsuit to wear when we're at the beach," Maria said with a smirk.
"No! We'll stay with Qrow!" Dove exclaimed.
"That's what I thought. Instead of thinking with your heads you guys think with your-" Maria gets cut off when Ruby covers her mouth.
"Okay! I guess we'll go now!" Ruby said.
"Good. I wish you all good luck," Governor Ide said.
The Huntsman, former Huntress, and students all turned around and exited out of the Governor's office.
Waikiki Beach
Later at Waikiki Beach, Ruby, Oscar, Rin, Ronin, Yatsuhashi, Allen, and Maria were all patrolling the beach, looking out for any sign of Grimm activity. Ruby, Ronin, Rin, and Maria all sat on a public bench just on the edge of the beach.
"The world pretty much knows about the existence of silver eyes' power. Which means you'll probably become targets for some people out there, not just Salem," Maria said.
"You're right. They're probably those that either want us dead, or want to experiment on them," Ronin said.
"Do you think our eyes possess the same power as Ruby as soon as Earth and Remnant merged?" Rin asked.
"I'm not sure to be honest. I guess that's why Ozpin accepted you into Beacon Academy, to see if they do. And now I want to know as well," Maria answered.
"Even if they don't, you'd still become a Huntsman and Huntress in the future," Ruby said.
"That's true," Ronin said.
Oscar walks up to the silver-eyed group as they all look up at him.
"Any sign of any Grimm yet?" Maria asked.
"None so far," Oscar answered.
"Well I'm sure we'll find some eventually," Maria said, then looked back at the Ferrer twins. "Better get moving."
Maria, Ronin, and Rin all stood up from the bench and walked off, leaving Oscar and Ruby alone.
"Can I uh... sit here for a moment?" Oscar asked.
"Sure... " Ruby answered with an awkward laugh.
Oscar sits on the bench next to Ruby. The two were silent for a moment until Ruby began to speak.
"So... nice city... isn't it?" she asked.
"Yeah. It's very... tropical," Oscar said.
"And the uh... ocean looks pretty at this time of the year," Ruby said.
"Yeah... you are- I mean, it! The ocean! The ocean is very pretty," Oscar said, correcting himself with a flustered face.
The two awkwardly sat in silence again for a moment until Oscar spoke.
"Ruby... about the situation of Salem's escape. And the U.H.L. recruiting students. Do you think it will be able to keep the world stable if Salem does make her move?" he asked.
"I think if we all stay united, we can beat her," Ruby answered.
"Yeah, I guess so. But, Earth here seems more fragile than Remnant," Oscar said.
"Then I guess we'll have to be more careful than ever before," Ruby said.
"We must," Oscar said.
"How do you think the others at the summit are doing?" Ruby asked.
"I'm sure they're fine," Oscar answered.
Summit of Diamond Head Crater
Meanwhile at the Summit of Diamond Head Crater, Qrow, Neptune, Dove, Sage, Sky, Bolin, and Reese were all hiking up the summit looking around for any sign of Grimm activity.
"How long do we have to keep this up?" Sky groaned.
"Until we or the others at the beach find something," Qrow answered.
"This is no fun," Reese whined.
"It's not supposed to be fun. Just remember, you all signed up for this," Qrow said.
The students all groaned as they all continued to hike up the summit.
Honolulu Coastline
Meanwhile, up in the sky above the coastline, Penny was flying around searching for any Grimm activity down below, while Cade rode on a black jet ski searching in the waters. He puts his fingers on his communicator in his ear and speaks into it.
"Any sign of Grimm from above, Penny?" he asked.
"Not a single Grimm in sight for the moment," Penny answered through the communicator.
"Keep looking. You'll never know when they'll show themselves," Cade said.
Both were silent for a moment before Penny asked Cade a question.
"Hey Cade. What do you do in your spare time?" she asked.
"I keep in contact with my creator and help him organize his businesses," Cade answered.
"Who created you?" Penny asked.
"Though the U.S. government manufactured my functions and weaponry, Elon Musk was the one to set up my programming, appearance, and how I function with those around me," Cade answered.
"I've heard about him. He is the CEO of Tesla and SpaceX, and currently the wealthiest man in the world," Penny said.
"He is. Sometimes I almost never see him, because of my duties. I only make phone calls with him mostly," Cade said.
"Don't you have any friends?" Penny asked.
"I haven't got the time for it. I am always on duty," Cade answered.
"...Can I... be your friend?" Penny asked.
Before Cade could answer, he looked up ahead to see a large group of Grimm consisting of Sphinxes, Manticores, Lancers, and Nevermores.
"Penny, I've got a visual on a large flock of Grimm south of our location," he said.
Penny turns her head to the south and zooms in with her eyes and sees the flock of flying Grimm, accompanied by a large black mass with glowing red lines and six red eyes. Penny placed her fingers on the communicator in her ear and spoke into it.
"And I see something else beneath the water," she said.
"Contact the others," Cade ordered.
Waikiki Beach
Back down at the beach Yatsuhashi and Allen were trailing down the beach, looking out for any Grimm. Just then, Penny's voice was speaking through Yatsuhashi's Scroll.
"Does anyone copy? This is Penny! Does anyone copy?"
Yatsu pulled out his Scroll and answered it.
"This is Yatsuhashi and Allen. What's the problem?" he asked.
"Cade and I have just spotted incoming danger four klicks south from Waikiki Beach! A large Grimm that is underwater! I recommend evacuating all civilians out of the area immediately!" Penny informs.
Allen and Yatsu both look up at each other.
"I'll go tell the lifeguards to evacuate the beach and call for backup! You go tell the others!" he said.
Allen then sprints away to a nearby lifeguard tower as Yatsu runs the other direction to warn the others. He has his Scroll in his ear as he runs.
"Penny, see if you and Cade can buy us some time while we get ready!" he said.
"Copy that!" Penny replied.
Honolulu Coastline
Up in the sky, Penny flies down to the oncoming Grimm down below. Her backpack opens up and Floating Array flies out. She swirled her blades into a circular ring and fired several blasts from her laser, killing three Manticores, two Nevermores, three Sphinxes, and four Lancers. She slashed at two more Manticores and three more Lancers as they fell into the waters below.
Cade glides across the waters in his jet ski as he pulls out Random Access. He shot a laser blast at a Nevermore, slicing it in half. A Manticore flies towards Cade and shoots a fireball at him. Cade swerved away from the attack and fired the machine gun on his weapon and opened fire at the Grimm, shooting it down. A Lancer flew at Cade as he barely dodged its stinger. He popped his blade out of Random Access and sliced it in half.
The giant Grimm in the water slowly rose up from the water, revealing itself. It is a gigantic, bipedal, aquatic sea Grimm with four humanoid limbs and a long tail. It has four gills on each side of its neck and a collection of dorsal plates protruding from its back, with red webbing between each plate. It has a dolphin-like head with a mouth filled with sharp teeth and three yellow eyes on each side of the head. Like many other Grimm it has external ribs. It was a Leviathan.
The Leviathan gave out a loud roar, forcing Penny and Cade to cover her ears.
Waikiki Beach
Out on the beach, everyone hears the giant Grimm's roar and all turn to see the Leviathan slowly trudging the waters heading towards Honolulu. A loud siren rang out throughout the beach as the people began screaming and running out of the beach in terror. Allen was trying to safely direct the civilians out of the beach.
"Please evacuate the area in a calm and orderly fashion!" Allen shouted to the screaming and running civilians.
Ruby, Oscar, Rin, Ronin, and Yatsuhashi all ran up to Allen.
"It's gonna be a little while until Uncle Qrow and the others arrive!" Ruby said.
"Can't you three use your silver eyes on the Leviathan?" Yatsuhashi asked.
"Rin and I don't know if ours will work!" Ronin answered.
"And I need to get close enough to do it!" Ruby added.
"So how are we gonna get to it?" Oscar asked.
"Guys! a voice called out.
They all turned to see Maria standing next to a pair of jet skis, one blue and the other red.
"Maybe you kids can use these," she said.
Honolulu Coastline
Out on the coast, Penny and Cade continue to fight off the Grimm and try her best to slow down the Leviathan. She slashed at two Lancers with her blades, then fired a laser blast at three Nevermores. Penny fires another blast at the side of the Leviathan's face. The giant Grimm tries to swat Penny away, making her fly out of the way of her attacks. Cade approaches on his jet ski and shoots a rocket at the kaiju Grimm's belly.
Out in the water, Rin rides on the red jet ski with Allen and Ruby riding behind her, and Ronin rides on the blue jet ski with Yatsuhashi and Oscar riding behind him.
"Bring me in closer!" Ruby said to Rin.
"Got it!" Rin replied as she accelerated the jet ski.
A Sphinx and two Manticores flew down towards Rin, Ruby, and Yatsu. Rin looks up and takes notice of the oncoming Grimm.
"Allen, take the helm!" Rin said.
She pulls out a pair of purple MCK Glock 43s and jumps up into the air and fires a couple shots at the Sphinx. The Sphinx and the Manticores all flew up towards Rin as she transformed her guns into a pair of kama. She lands on the Sphinx's back and slashes at the two Manticores just as they were about to reach her. The Sphinx's snake tail lunges at Rin, but she quickly decapitates it and cuts off the Grimm's wings. Rin jumps off of the Sphinx as it goes down into the water. She sees a Nevermore above her. Rin fires the blades from her twin weapons as the blades were attached to chains. The chains wrapped around the Nevermore's feet, dangling Rin from her weapons.
Down in the blue jet ski, Ronin, Oscar, and Yatsuhashi all watched Rin as she fought off a handful of Grimm.
"Woah," Oscar ushered.
"Yep. That's Rin and Crescent Nightshade for ya," Ronin said.
'The three boys heard the sound of buzzing and turned their heads to see three Lancers flying towards them.
"Now say hello to my friend, Kirin's Claw!" Ronin said as he drew out a blood red 1892 Winchester rifle.
He fires several rounds at two of the Lancers, making them fall into the water. Ronin jumps off of the jet ski and toward the third remaining Lancer. Ronin transforms his rifle into a sword just as he lands on the Grimm's back. He slices off the Lancer's wings and it starts to go down. He looks up to see Rin still dangling on to the Nevermore's feet with Crescent Nightshade. Ronin's eyes then started to glow red and before anyone knew it, Ronin jumped up at the Nevermore at such a fast speed that he went through the Nevermore's head like a bullet. Rin unraveled her chains off the Nevermore as it fell to the water as she and her sibling both dive into the water.
The Ferrer twins both surface from the water Yatsuhashi and Oscar approach on the blue jet ski with Cade approach on his black jet ski as well.
Allen drove the red jet ski up in front of the Leviathan as it tried to swat Penny away from it. The giant Grimm suddenly unleashes an energy beam attack from its mouth at Penny. She was barely able to fly away from the attack. The beam shifts over top of the Central Ala Moana, barely grazing it.
"Hurry, Ruby! I don't know if Penny or the city can hold out much longer!" Allen shouted.
"Okay, okay, you can do this... You have to do this!" Ruby said to herself.
She closes her eyes and started to think back on various memories; She thinks of her father and sister, when Zwei first arrived at Team RWBY's dorm room, when she and her team are about to start a food fight, and when she, her team, and JNPR first met Team GRMA then soon after CFDT. Ruby thought back to their time when they all celebrated Christmas, and when she, her team, and JNPR all started training their Terran friends. But then she thinks back to her mother, her white cloak blowing in the wind as she overlooks a cliff watching a sunset. She then turns around, offering a warm smile. Her own Silver Eyes reflect back to her daughter's.
Ruby's own eyes open, then shine bright, the brightest it has ever been. A massive white light engulfs the area, turning the Leviathan and the remaining Grimm to stone. The petrified flying Grimm all fell into the waters below. The light retracts back into Ruby's eyes, and she turns around to look at the city of Honolulu still standing as she and the others hear the sounds of cheering coming from the city. Suddenly, Ruby hears a stone crackling behind her. The Leviathan's head manages to move and tries to aim at Ruby.
"Oh, come on now!" Oscar exclaimed.
"Should have seen that coming," Allen said, shaking his head.
Suddenly, a missile struck the side of the Leviathan's head as it roared in pain. Everyone turned to see three F-22s flying towards the kaiju Grimm. Penny flies over to the side of where the Grimm was struck and fires a laser blast right at where it was struck. The fighter jets fired more of their missiles at the Leviathan's head, as it then dissipated. The Leviathan was now destroyed. The people in the city cheered once more as the F-22 passed overhead. The group all cheered on as well.
Waikiki Beach
Later back at the beach, Ruby, Oscar, Rin, Ronin, Penny, Cade, Allen, Yatsuhashi, and Maria were all gathered. Qrow, Neptune, Dove, Sage, Sky, Bolin, and Reese all approached the group.
"Uncle Qrow!" Ruby exclaimed.
Ruby ran up to her uncle and hugged him, then broke off after a moment.
"We saw the action from the beach as we were protecting the citizens," Neptune said.
"And the silver eye thingy Ruby did! That was awesome!" Reese exclaimed.
"Pfft! It was nothing," Ruby said with a flick of her hand.
"What shall we do now?" Bolin asked.
"We can enjoy the rest of Hawaii. We have killed the Leviathan, So Hawaii is less likely to have a lot of Grimm activity now," Yatsuhashi suggested.
"Sure, we could do that," Qrow said.
"What are we waiting for? Let's get a move on," Maria said.
Everyone all began to walk into the city to enjoy themselves and the rest of Hawaii.
