CHAPTER 1:

On the morning of November 1st, Garrett and Shannon were sitting down at the kitchen table having breakfast when Garrett got a call from Sarah.

"Hey, Sarah," Garrett said, answering.

"Hey, Garrett. I was wondering if you guys wanted to meet me at the mall today. Since I don't have much going on on Sundays, I figured it could be an opportunity to look for a birthday present for Emily," Sarah suggested.

"Definitely. That'd be great. What time?" Garrett asked.

"Meet me at the food court at about noon today," Sarah said.

"We'll be there. Later," Garrett said, hanging up.

"What's going on with Sarah?" Shannon asked.

"She wants us to meet her at the mall so we can pick out a birthday present for Emily," Garrett recapped.

"Great idea. Got anything in mind for a present?" Shannon asked.

"Not yet. But I'm sure I'll find something at the mall today," Garrett said.

"Alright. Well, I'm looking forward to it," Shannon said.

At noon that same day, Garrett, Shannon, and Lucy met with Sarah and Chloe at the mall food court.

"Hey, guys," Sarah said.

"Hey, Sarah, Chloe, good to see you today," Shannon said.

"Yeah. How's Calvin doing today?" Garrett asked.

"He's doing alright. Matt took him to the arcade today so we could shop for Emily's present," Sarah explained.

"He's bound to have a fun time there," Garrett said.

"Though I think the odds are he'll run out of tokens within an hour," Sarah said jokingly.

"Before we even got there, it looked like Calvin couldn't wait to play all those arcade games," Chloe added.

"For instance, he's really into those virtual reality games," Sarah explained.

"I'm so glad he'll be having a good time while we shop. So where should we look first?" Shannon asked.

The group split up and went into two different stores. Garrett and Shannon thought Emily would be into something from Best Buy. Garrett wanted to get Emily a tablet, but Shannon talked him out of it, thinking he could try to get Emily something less expensive. So, he spent about an hour looking for an alternative until he and Shannon finally found something they both agreed was a good choice.

Meanwhile, Chloe and Sarah thought Emily might like a scented candle, especially one from the Yankee Candle store.

As Sarah sniffed some of the candles: "Mmm...I am in love with this smell. I'm surprised I don't have more of these candles at home."

"Yeah, yeah," Chloe said, grinning. "Glad you found one you like. Now let's look for one Emily would like."

"Okay. But I do want to grab one of these for my house, as long as we're here," Sarah said.

"Well, these scents do smell beautiful. What the heck, I'll get one for myself too. Let's focus - which one should we get for Emily?" Chloe asked.

Chloe and Sarah spent an hour sniffing candles, getting caught up in the aroma, before finally agreeing on getting Emily one with a Black Cherry scent. Before they left, Sarah got herself a Honeysuckle candle, while Chloe got herself a Blossoming Orchard candle. Once they finished, Sarah went back to the arcade to meet up with Matt and Calvin to tell them it was time to go home.
