David woke up to something poking his cheek, and when he opened his eyes they were blurry. After a few seconds of adjusting to the room light, he saw his little sister's smiling face, still poking him, and his heart filled with joy.
"Good morning, my beautiful princess," David said, lifting her up into his arms and carrying her to the bed with a loving smile on his face.
"Come on, sleepyhead!" she added with a mischievous smile. "It's time to start the day!"
David hugged his little sister tightly and said, "It's still too early, let's go back to sleep." His voice was filled with warmth and affection as he tucked the blanket around them.
"No, no, let's play!" Lisa said, her voice full of excitement and anticipation
"No, let's not sleep," David said, as he heard someone else coming into his room and realized it was his sister.
His sister said, "Mama's breakfast is ready," before walking away from his room.
"Yeeh breakfast!" Lisa exclaimed, her face lighting up with excitement as she pulled away from her brother's grip and ran after her sister.
David kept looking up at the ceiling before finally standing up. He made his way to the bathroom first, then to the kitchen, where he saw his mom and sister already eating.
"The huevos are already done," his mom said, talking to his sister.
He grabbed a plate of eggs and sausage and sat down next to Lisa. As he ate, he would make her laugh or giggle every now and then.
"Well girls, let's go get ready," his mom said, putting the plates in the sink.
"Where are y'all going?" David asked, starting to wash the dishes.
"We're going to your tia's house for the whole day," his mom replied, heading to her room. David finished washing the dishes and followed her.
His mom said as she walked to the door, the girls trailing behind her, "If you're feeling hungry later today, why not drop by your aunt's house? Okay?"
David replied, "Yeah, I'll see you later. Bye!" He then went to his room and checked his phone, but there were no important notifications. It was still early, only 11:30 on a Saturday. David went back to sleep.
David groggily got out of bed at 1:30pm, determined to finally get back into his workout routine. He drove to the warehouse, where he had recently purchased some weights and other equipment so he wouldn't have to pay for a gym membership he wouldn't use all the time. When he arrived, it was already 1:40pm. Excited and motivated, he was ready to get started.
He wore gym shorts that went all the way to his knees, paired with a white tank top and low top converse. When he grabbed his regular 84 weights, they felt surprisingly light, so he moved up to 96, but they were still too light. He then grabbed 120, expecting it to be heavy, but it was the perfect weight. For the rest of the workout, he used 120 or something close to it. He did 100 push-ups, 100 crunches, 100 bench presses, 100 pull-ups, and 100 shoulder presses with ease. His determination and strength was inspiring, and he felt a sense of accomplishment as he finished his workout.
He checked his phone and saw that it was 2:25 pm. He decided he had done enough for the day and he still needed to get ready to go visit Dexter for lunch. He quickly showered and changed into his usual outfit; an open blue jacket, a green T-shirt, baggy jeans, and his Air Force shoes. When he arrived at Dexter's house, it was 2:40 pm. He was about to get out of his truck when he heard his phone get a notification. It was Armando.
Armando asked, "Are you still down for this afternoon?"
David replied, "Yeah, what time?"
"Around 5," Armando answered.
"Okay, I'll pick you up then," David said eagerly.
"Yeah, cool! See you then," Armando replied
Afterward, David placed his phone in his jean pocket and proceeded to walk up to the Dexter house door and ring the bell.
Ms Dexter had a rough start to her day when she woke up to an empty bed, her partner already awake. She looked down to her side of the bed and noticed her orange comfy slippers were missing. With a heavy sigh, she pushed the blanket aside and felt the cold floor beneath her feet. When she looked to her left on her nightstand, her pink nightgown robe was also missing.
Ms Dexter walk to the closet, putting on her slippers that were next to it, and opened the closet to find her pink robe nightgown hanging their. She felt a wave of frustration wash over her as she realized her day was already off to a bad start.
She made her way to the bathroom and took care of her business before heading down to the kitchen. When she arrived, she saw her partner sitting at the dining table, sipping a cup of coffee and munching on a bagel while reading the newspaper.
Mr Dexter sat in the kitchen, engrossed in the newspaper. Ms Dexter asked, "Are you going to eat that bagel or do you want something else?"
Mr Dexter replied, "Nah, I'm okay with this bagel."
Ms Dexter sighed and opened the fridge, pulling out some eggs and bacon. "Well, suit yourself," she said.
She was carefully placing the items on the counter when they both heard a loud thud coming from somewhere above them. Deedee had obviously dropped something, and the sound of it hitting the floor echoed through the room.
"It seems like Sleeping Beauty has finally woken up," Mr. Dexter said, turning the page of the newspaper not really caring.
"Yes, and it looks like she's running late for something," Ms. Dexter said, placing a pan on the counter.
"Good morning, Mom, Dad!" Deedee said, walking into the living room.
"Good morning," Mr. Dexter said, still reading the newspaper.
"Good morning, dear. Would you like some breakfast?" Ms. Dexter asked.
"No thanks, I'm running late for my class," Deedee said, checking her phone.
"Well, I better be going," Mr. Dexter said, standing up and taking a last sip from his coffee before heading to the living room for his briefcase.
"Bye, Mom," Deedee said, giving her mom a kiss on the cheek before walking to the door.
"Bye, I might be late today," Mr. Dexter said, following Deedee out and closing the door behind them.
Ms Dexter was finishing her breakfast, carefully placing her eggs and bacon on the same plate before setting it on the table. She then poured some orange juice into a cup, eagerly anticipating her first sip. However, with a bit too much force, she ended up spilling the orange juice all over herself!
"Dammit!" Ms Dexter exclaimed, her face contorting with frustration as she looked down at her favorite nightgown, now stained with orange juice. She angrily grabbed some paper towels and began to clean up the mess she had made.
"This is just great," she muttered to herself, her voice tinged with annoyance. She poured herself another cup of orange juice and sat down to eat, her mind still on the ruined nightgown.
Dexter awoke and descended the stairs to find his mother eating and reading the newspaper.
"Good morning, Mom. What's for breakfast?" Dexter inquired.
"Eggs and bacon, still hot," Ms. Dexter replied, flipping the page of the newspaper and taking a bite of her eggs.
"Awesome, thanks. I'm gonna head to my room," Dexter said, grabbing a plate and heading to his room.
"Alright, sweetheart," Dexter's mother said, still engrossed in the newspaper.
Once she finished her breakfast and Dexter brought his plate and put it on the sink, she threw away the newspaper and started to wash the plates and pans. While washing the plates, she grabbed the soap bottle a little too hard and ended up spraying it on herself. Some of the soap landed on her cheek, neck and all over her robe nightgown, making her feel embarrassed and frustrated.
"Just what I needed," Ms. Dexter thought with a sigh of frustration and as she continued washing the plates.
When she finished washing all the plates, she walked up to her room to change into her usual outdoor attire. As she rummaged through her wardrobe, she remembered that she had already used up the last bottle of her favorite nail polish. "Dammit," she muttered, throwing the last empty bottle into the trash can.
She glanced at her reflection in the mirror one last time before donning her yellow gloves and grabbing the trash bag to start cleaning her bathroom.
For the rest of the day she kept having terrible luck with either not having any more bottles to help her clean or things not functioning anymore. Her spirits sank lower and lower as she felt increasingly frustrated.
Deedee returned home from her classes and was in the living room watching TV when Dexter came downstairs.
"Hey Mom, do you think you can take me to the comic store?" Dexter asked.
"Sorry son, I can't. I still have things to get done," Ms. Dexter replied, continuing to clean the shelves.
"Why don't I take him instead? I have a few clothes I've been wanting to pick up," Deedee offered.
"Are you sure?" Ms. Dexter asked, looking up at Deedee as she stood up and turned off the TV.
"Yeah, sure. The comic store is just around the corner from the clothing store," Deedee said, grabbing her things.
"Okay, she's taking you, son. Have fun!" Ms. Dexter said, watching them leave.
Ms. Dexter said, taking a break after some time of hard work, "Almost done! Just need to start the food and then I can finally have some much-needed rest." With a sense of relief, after some had passed since Dexter and Deedee left.
"Who could that be" ms Dexter thought when she opened the door, Ms. Dexter was surprised to see David standing there.
"Hello David, come in," she said, opening the door and letting him inside the house.
"I apologize, but my son isn't here," Ms. Dexter said, taking a seat on one of the couches and David taking the other one.
"You don't have to apologize at all, it's completely fine. If you don't mind me asking, where did he go?" David asked.
"He went to the comic book store with his sister," Ms. Dexter said.
"I see. Well, if you don't mind, can I help you with anything?" David asked.
"Well, not really. I've already finished with everything, except for the food, but I don't think today is going to be good," Ms. Dexter said, her voice tinged with sadness.
"Why is that, if you don't mind me asking?" David asked.
"Well, I haven't gone to the store for groceries because I don't have a car to drive. Dexter's dad hasn't had time to take me to buy one," Ms. Dexter said, her voice heavy with disappointment.
"Why don't I take you?" David said, standing up.
"I can't ask you to do that," Ms. Dexter said, her eyes widening in surprise.
"You don't have to ask and I don't mind. I just want to help somehow," David said, a look of determination on his face.
"Okay, well thank you," Ms. Dexter said, standing up and then going to the kitchen to check for things she needed to buy. Meanwhile, David went outside to throw away any trash he had in his truck.
Once she finished writing everything she needed, she removed her apron and yellow glove with a sense of accomplishment and then went upstairs to retrieve her purse and phone. With a smile on her face, she descended the stairs and headed out the door.
David smiled as he stood up from the concrete steps of the porch and walked to his truck.
"I take it you're ready," he said, turning to Ms. Dexter who was locking the door behind her.
"Yep, I am," she said, walking to the truck. "Woah, nice truck you have."
"Thanks," David said, opening the door for her. "It's good for everything I need it for."
"So how did you come to meet my son?" Ms. Dexter asked as she got in and put on her seatbelt.
"Freshman year, I didn't have any of my friends in one of my classes, so I sat in the corner, minding my own business. Dexter also sat in the same corner with me. We started with small conversations, like explaining what the teacher said or things we missed. After a while, we started making longer conversations and since then, I've had him in at least one class every year," David said.
"That's wonderful, two different worlds coming together," Ms. Dexter said, smiling.
"Yep, he's been under my protection. Nobody messes with him without going through me first or my crew," David said, his smile genuine.
"Thanks for always having his back," Ms. Dexter said. "I take it you could care less about school?"
"Don't have to thank me, it's just something I do without thinking. To answer your question, you're right, I could care less. They don't teach anything that I find interesting," David said.
"So are you one of those bad boys that skips school, comes and goes as he pleases, and starts fights whenever he feels like?" Ms. Dexter asked, her smile widening and her eyes twinkling with amusement.
"Well, almost everything you said is true, except the fight. I only fight when they start messing with one of my friends," David said, his smile still in place.
They continued talking, making jokes and having conversations about anything and everything.
"You wouldn't mind if I come along with you?" David asked, parking the truck in a spot at the grocery store.
"It's okay, I could use the extra help," Ms. Dexter said, smiling.
"Not going to lie, I never got your name, miss," David said, standing in front of his truck.
"That's right, I just told you I'm Dexter's mom, but never gave you my name. You can call me Amber," Ms. Dexter said, extending her hand for a handshake.
"Well, Miss Amber, I'm David. Nice to finally meet you," David said, shaking her hand.
"Likewise, same goes for me, Mister David," Amber said, her smile widening.
"Well, shall we go?" David said, smiling.
"Yes, we can," Amber said, as they both walked next to each other.
"So, what's first on the list?" David asked, grabbing a shopping cart.
"First off is fruits and vegetables," Amber said, walking to the fruit and vegetable section.
They grabbed bananas, strawberries, blueberries, oranges, avocados, onions, tomatoes, beans, and a few other things.
"Okay, that looks about all I need for now. Next is the meat section," Amber said.
"So, how will all this last once you buy everything?" David asked, walking next to her to the meat section.
"About two weeks, give or take less," Amber said, looking at the products.
"Seems about right from what I can see," David said.
"How can you decide which type of meat you're going to take? All I see is a bunch of it with prices," David said, looking at all the meat.
"Well, it depends on what I feel like having or just by looking at the prices," Amber said, putting some meats in the cart.
"Good to know," David said, standing next to the cart.
"Okay, next bread, yogurt, and a few other things," Amber said, once she had grabbed all the meat she was going to take.
"I didn't know Dexter had a sister. It was the first time I ever heard him having a sibling earlier today," David asked.
"That's probably because for the longest he hated her whenever she went into his room. She made a mess with his things while she was playing around. It wasn't until the last few years when they started to calm down and talk to each other. Deedee now goes to college, that probably helped," Amber said, walking by sections.
"So, she spends less time at home and less time bothering Dexter," David said, walking next to her and pushing the cart.
"Sounds about right," Amber said, with a smile.
They grabbed yogurt, a few bags of chips and cookies, orange juice, milk, toilet paper, toothpaste, and a few other things.
"Okay, it seems we've grabbed everything we need," Amber said.
"Okay, so check out time," David said, pushing the cart to the self-checkout section.
Once they had checked everything out and put everything in David's truck, they got inside the truck, ready for their next destination.
"So were too next" David ask putting his seat belt on
"Makeup store" Amber said, putting her seat belt on with a smile.
"You don't wear much makeup from what I can tell," David asked, curious.
"You're right, I don't. I only wear it for important events or places, but for everyday I don't wear it. I need to stop by though, because my favorite color bottle for my nails ran out," Amber said.
"I see. Well, next stop, makeup store," David said with a smile, making Amber giggle and pulling out of the parking lot and driving away.
"So, do you work and what is it?" Amber asked.
"Well, I used to work at fast food places, but I didn't like it so I dropped it," David said, driving.
"What was wrong with it?" Amber asked.
"The hours were all over the place most of the time, and when I found a good place with good hours, they didn't pay enough. So now I go to a mechanic shop and help from time to time and get paid for what I help and also get to learn something I find interesting," David said, his eyes lighting up as he spoke.
"That sounds nice. You get to learn something you like and get paid for it," Amber said, admiration in her voice.
"Yep. So what about you? Do you work?" David asked, driving.
"Well, I got a bachelor's in accounting, so from time to time I invest in the stock market, but other than that, I'm a housewife," Amber said, smiling.
"Dang, a bachelor's degree is saying something," David said, smiling and whistling.
"Oh, stop it," Amber said, blushing and giggling.
David kept making jokes or making her blush without noticing while driving, his enthusiasm for life contagious.
"You don't have to come for this," Amber said, pulling off her seat belt.
"I know, but I'm curious to see what it looks like inside a makeup store," David replied, also taking off his seat belt.
"We'll only be in there for a few minutes," Amber said, walking up to the store.
"Okay, after you, my lady," David said with a smile, opening the door for her.
"Thank you, you're such a gentleman," Amber said, smiling and going inside the store.
"Hello and welcome! Hope you find what you need. If you need help, I'm here," the lady behind the counter said, smiling and waving her hand.
"Thank you," David said, waving back and following Amber to the nail section.
"Woah, so this is what it looks like inside a makeup store," David said, looking around.
"Yep. What do you think would look good on my nails?" Amber asked, showing two different colors, one being blue and the other one being pink.
"I think blue would look good with your everyday outfit," David answered.
"That's what I was thinking too," Amber said, putting the pink bottle back on the shelf.
"Is that all you're getting?" David asked.
"Nope, I just need to find my favorite color and then I'm done. I just wanted to buy this one because it looks nice," Amber said, looking for her bottle and then finding it.
"You know, it seems like we have something in common," David said with a smile.
"Really? What's that?" Amber asked, looking at him curiously.
"This," David said, pointing to the bottle she had in her hands.
"No way! Really?" Amber said, sounding surprised and looking down at the bottle.
"Yep. I don't know what it is about the turquoise color that I find appealing, but I do," David said, smiling.
"Same goes for me. I don't know what it is, but it's just a nice color," Amber said, getting two more bottles.
"Okay, anything else you're getting?" David said.
"Nah, I still have a little bit of everything else. It's just this one that tends to run out really fast," Amber said, walking to the counter.
"Hello and nice choice of color for your nails. They will go well with your shirt," the lady said, smiling and scanning the stuff.
"Thanks. It's my favorite color, so I had to get it. Also, I want to use my VIP account," Amber said, smiling and giving her info and then paying for it.
"Thanks for shopping with us and have a good day," the lady said as they both left.
"How does VIP work on a store like that?" David asked, curious, walking to his truck.
"Well, after coming here way too many times, they gave me VIP access because I became one of their regular customers," Amber said, getting inside his truck.
"So, what are the perks?" David asked, putting his seat belt on.
"Early access to products before they hit the shelves, or having access to things that are not on the shelves, and a few other perks," Amber said, also putting on her seat belt.
"Nice. So, you can't have excuses about not having certain things because you can easily get it," David said, smiling and driving away.
"Yep, and it feels wonderful not having to wait for the shelves to be restocked," Amber said, smiling.
On their way back to her house, she learned that David had two younger sisters and a single parent. She was amazed by his dedication and commitment to whatever he put his mind to. She found herself captivated by his stories and conversations, something she had never experienced with her partner. She felt a connection with him that she had never felt before.
When they arrived at her house, they started to unpack and put things away. She felt a sense of comfort and contentment being around him, and she was excited to learn more about him.
Amber smiled as she tied her apron around her waist. "Alright, now that we've gotten rid of all the distractions, let's get started on the food," she said cheerfully. David nodded, rolling up his jacket sleeves as he prepared to help. "You tell me what to do and I'll do it," he said confidently.
Amber was walking away from the stove when she tripped. She felt herself falling and was readying herself for the impact, but the impact never came. Instead, she landed on something hard but soft. Whatever it was, it felt comfortable and safe, and she didn't want to leave it. The next few seconds felt like forever and she was pleased.
David was putting something away on the fridge when he turned at the same time Amber was tripping. His reflexes reacted and he grabbed her before she fell to the floor.
He was not going to lie that he didn't find this comfortable because he did, and he never wanted to stop. He looked down to see his arms around her waist and Amber enjoying the moment.
As much as he hated it, he had to stop this before it became really awkward. He cleared his throat and that brought Amber back to reality.
"Are you okay?" David said with a genuine smile.
"Yeah, I'm fine," Amber said. For the first time, she saw the most beautiful and innocent smile she had ever seen.
"Okay, we better start preparing the table," David said, helping her stand up and then letting her go.
When David stopped holding her, he instantly wanted to hug her back and not let her go, while she also wanted to get back into his hug.
"I'll get the plates and you get the spoons," Amber said, hiding her blush and trying not to make it awkward between them.
"Okay," David said, as they got the things.
"Mom, we're home!" Deedee yelled from the entrance.
"Dining room!" Amber said, smiling.
"Hey, Mom, is that David's truck out front?" Dexter asked, carrying a bag of comic books.
"Who's David?" Deedee asked, walking behind Dexter.
"Well, there's your answer," Amber said, smiling and pointing to David, who was putting down the last spoon next to the plate.
"Hello, I'm David, Dexter's friend from school," David said, smiling and extending his hand to shake Deedee's.
"Well, I'm Dexter's sister, Deedee," Deedee said, shaking his hand.
"Did you just get here?" Dexter asked.
"Yeah, just a few minutes ago," David said, smiling.
"I see. Well, I'll be right back. I'm going to put my bag away," Dexter said, leaving.
"I'm going to do the same," Deedee said, following Dexter up the stairs.
"Okay, but the food's ready, so don't stay up too long," Amber said.
"Okay, Mom," Dexter said from the stairs.
"So, do you want to explain why you lied?" Amber asked, turning to David.
"Because we barely knew each other before today, so it would look weird to them, and it's fun having a few secrets," David said, smiling and taking a seat.
Amber just looked at David and then thought about what he said and how much fun she had today. "I guess it's okay to keep a few secrets," Amber said, sitting down next to him.
Afterwards, Dexter and Deedee came down and took a seat and started eating while talking and having fun.
Once they finished eating, everyone helped to clean up the table. Amber smiled, feeling grateful for the company and the delicious meal.
"Thanks for the food but I better get going, I have some things I need to take care of," David said, standing up from the table.
"Are you sure you can't stay?" Amber asked, feeling a twinge of disappointment.
"Sorry, maybe another time, but not today. Thank you for the food, it was delicious," David said, walking towards the door.
"Okay, well thanks for coming and I hope to see you soon," Amber said, trying to hide her sadness.
"See you at school," Dexter said, before David left.
Once he was gone, Amber sighed and watched him drive away. She felt a strange emptiness in her heart, but she couldn't quite put her finger on why.
Once he got in his truck, David revved the engine and drove off to Armando's house. When got there he waited for Armando to come out. When he finally saw him, a small smile spread across his face.
"Wazz up wey," David said, greeting Armando with a handshake.
"You got everything?" David asked, his voice full of excitement.
"Yeah man, let's go handle business," Armando replied, buckling his seatbelt.
David stepped on the gas, eager to get to their destination. He was filled with a sense of purpose and determination as they drove off into the night.
They went to the warehouse to gather their supplies and then set off to sell marijuana for the rest of the afternoon. Unfortunately, they encountered a few difficulties with their last customers of the day. Despite the setback, they remained determined and kept pushing forward.
That looks nice how much you said it's was cats said pulling out his wallet
David signs already knowing where this was going. 150 David said
Y'all think I can payed later cats said looking at them
David and Armando stared down at cats, their faces hard and unyielding. "You know the deal, cats. Don't have enough, don't buy," Armando said in a stern voice.
Cats looked up at them pleadingly. "Come on guys, can't we make some kind of deal?"
Armando shook his head. "If we make a deal with you, we'll have to make a deal with all the other buyers too, and then we won't make enough."
David stepped forward. "But even if we wanted to, I just remembered you still owe us from last sell. So either pay up for last sell or be ready." He looked at Armando. "You want me to handle this or you?"
Armando nodded. "It's your turn. I did it last time."
Cats gulped. "What are you going to do if I don't pay?"
David cracked his knuckles. "Well, let's see." He threw a punch to the side of cats' face, knocking him down to the ground. While cats was on the ground, David kept hitting him with his legs, anywhere he could. After a few minutes, David stopped and grabbed the water bottle Armando had brought, pouring the water all over cats' face while he was still on the ground.
"Hey wakey wakey!" David said, slapping Cat's cheek who was lying on the ground.
"I'm up, I'm up!" Cat said, as David grabbed him by the shirt and pulled him up.
"You have one week to get 200 dollars, or else...well, let's not hope it gets to that," Armando said, smiling menacingly.
"Yes sir, I understand," Cat said, while David pushed him back down and started walking away.
"Do you think he'll get all that money?" Armando asked, as David drove away.
"After what happened today, I think he will. He thought we were just some random, stupid teenagers who didn't know their stuff," David said, driving towards Armando's house.
"So, have you made any moves on Liz yet?" David asked, while driving.
"Gotta be slow with her, not rush things," Armando said, looking out the window.
"I take it she only cares about grades and not really anything else," David said.
"Yep, but that's fine with me," Armando said, smiling.
"Only you, my friend, only you," David said, smiling as he arrived at Armando's house.
"We'll catch y'all later, holmes," Armando said, getting out of the truck.
"I'll pick you up tomorrow," David said.
"Alright, tell me when you pull up," Armando said, walking to his house and getting inside, as David drove off.
When David arrived home, he noticed that his mom's car was nowhere to be seen. He knew that meant that nobody was home. As he stepped inside his house, he received a message from his mom.
"The girls and I are staying here at your tia's house for the night. It's already too dark for me to drive," Davids mom said.
"Okay, tell Lisa goodnight for me," David replied.
"Okay, mijo," Davids mom replied.
He was too tired to cook anything, so he grabbed a few pieces of clothes and took a shower before collapsing into bed, watching some random videos on YouTube until he fell asleep.
Thanks for reading and pointing out any mistakes I made or that need fixing.
