As people start to filter out of the room Ace and Graham look at each other again and share a small smile. "You know the two of you didn't have to stop holding hands when Tegan made that comment." Ryan says when it's just Ace, Graham, the Doctor and himself.
"I don't want to make anyone uncomfortable, hospitals are already uncomfortable enough as it is."
"Who were you making uncomfortable, Ace?"
"Professor, do I have to remind you about your comment?"
"Ace, I wasn't embarrassed, it's just not always fun to see someone you see as one of your children flirting."
"We weren't flirting."
"Ace, you are forgetting when I had to make you lose your faith in me, I saw you flirting."
"Oh."
"And in all my years I never forget a face. Though I do like Graham better than the other guy."
Ace to herself 'so do I.' Graham grabs her hand again, now that Tegan has left.
Over the next few days Graham is getting better and they prepare to move Graham out of the room. "Graham, my house has multiple bedrooms. Two of which are downstairs and more upstairs. I have more than enough room for you and Ryan to stay while you get better. There will be no stairs if you don't want them."
"Ace, you have already done so much for me while I have been here, you don't need to do more."
"I want to do more."
"Grandad, just let her do this, the two of you have been having the same conversation for two days. You only stop when someone comes in or the two of you start to flirt."
"Ok, Ace will you have both Ryan and I over until I get a clean bill of health?"
With a large smile, "I would love to have both you."
"Thank you."
"Ok, are we ready to check out?" His doctor comes in with paperwork and a wheelchair.
"Yes, I am." The paperwork gets signed and before they know it they are on their way to Ace's, UNIT had dropped off her car earlier. Ace doesn't want to chance the TARDIS with the Doctor's history of driving it. Shortly before leaving the hospital the Doctor was happy with the progress of both Graham and Ace left to travel the universe.
"Welcome to house Ace," Ace says as opens the doors wide.
"You are right this is Ace."
"Grandad," Ryan says with a sigh.
"At one point I tried to adopt a few kids and teens, but sadly it didn't go through. I got this house then."
"Ace," Graham comes up beside her.
"It's ok, they said it was because I had too many marks against me. Never graduating from either high school or university and how I disappeared for almost 10 years with no explanation on why."
"That shouldn't be why."
"Also the fact I had a record, blowing up the art room when I was in school and at 13 burning down a historical building in Perivale."
"Wow," Ryan is shocked to find it all out.
"I was an angry child with no good influence or relationship with an adult. The first one to actually show that they cared about me was the Doctor." Ace says as they walk through the house, "this room," Ace opens up a door to a large room with blue paint on the walls and a king sized bed in the middle. Pushed up against a wall is a mahogany dresser. There is a large window and on the other side is a small bathroom.
"Wow Ace, this room is amazing." Ace turns around.
"This is the larger of the two rooms downstairs. There is another one down the hall."
"You can have this one Graham."
"You sure Ryan?"
"I am, it has a bathroom."
"They both do, the only room that doesn't have one is my office, which is upstairs."
"Do you have visitors often?"
"No, except for Tegan and Nyssa."
"What about Graham?"
"I always have met him down the driveway, it is long."
"We saw."
"Graham, do you want to settle in, while I show Ryan his room?"
"I can do that," they share a small smile as Ace and Ryan walk down the hall to his slightly smaller room.
"This room is amazing." Ryan looks around and sees a similar bed that was in Graham's room but a cherry-wood dresser. The bathroom is on the far side.
"Thank you. I am going to check on Graham."
Ace leaves Ryan as he walks around his room that he will be staying, 'I am going to leave them a few minutes to themselves, before I join them, so they can flirt in private,'
Knocking on the doorframe, "may I come in?"
"Of course you can Ace."
Ace walks into the room, "do you think this will be good for you."
"Ace, this is the biggest bedroom I have ever seen."
"Do you like it?"
"I do, thank you."
"No problem, it's usually really quiet here. Outback I have a place where I make my Nitro-999."
"Is that where you spend the most of your time when you are home?"
"Yes. Though I think for the next few weeks I will be spending more time in the house."
"You will?"
"Yes, I have people over now."
"Ryan and I."
"Yes, you and Ryan." Graham moves closer to her and wraps her in his arms as they share a hug. Both think that they like the feel of the hug, but won't tell the other about it.
"I know I already said it, thank you for everything." Graham says as they stop hugging.
"You don't need to thank me, I must admit I wasn't myself the last few weeks, seeing you lying in that bed."
"Why?"
"You are already becoming one of my best mates."
"You are also becoming one of mine."
"If I am honest, the last time I had a connection like this was when I was a young adult, back in town for a short trip with the Doctor and I met Karra."
"Karra?"
"Yes, I saved her by being stoned to death, because she was a Cheetah person, though doing that I got infected with the Cheetah virus. The Doctor thought I would always be infected by it, but they had a friend that cured me of it. The Doctor also did everything in their power to make sure I didn't change."
"Change?"
"If I changed, I would have never changed back to human. Though the Master partially changed and as you know they went back to being Time Lord."
"I am glad the Doctor stopped you from changing."
"Me too," they share a small smile and are still standing close looking in each other's eyes when Ryan comes around the corner.
Not realizing he is speaking out loud, "I should've waited a few more minutes."
Broken from their spell, "why," Graham asks first.
"I knew you two would be flirting, I wanted to give you a moment."
"I was telling him about a friend I lost years ago."
"Kind of hard to talk without mouths moving."
"Ryan," Graham says as Ryan laughs.
