Welcome back to The Injustice Wars. Last time, Blaze and company were about to leave for Ysmault, before she was confronted by Doctor Fate with dire information regarding the scepter Scarecrow has been carrying this whole time. He's going after Darkblood, as the ghoul within is using him to unseal itself. Upon returning, Blaze gathered all the magic users the Legion, Insurgency, and Republic have to work with Fate. So, what awaits? Read on to discover...
(Our story opens back in the Tower of Fate, where Blaze, Zatanna, Hellboy, Raiden, and Vandal Savage enter through Doctor Fate's signature ankh doors)
Raiden: By the Elder Gods.
Blaze: You get used to that after a while.
Raiden: Where are we?
Zatanna: The Tower of Fate. Home to the most powerful sorcerer on Earth.
(At this point, Kent Nelson enters, carrying the Helm of Fate in his hand)
Kent Nelson: You flatter me, Zatanna.
Raiden: Wait, I recognize your golden garb, from my dreams.
Kent Nelson: You must be Raiden. Nabu has spoken of you many times.
Raiden: Wait, you know Nabu?
Kent Nelson: We work together, yes.
Raiden: (To Blaze) Be hesitant in trusting this one. Nabu is one of fickle allegiances.
Blaze: You're forgetting I know him too, Raiden. Nabu's already screwed me over in the past. But Kent, I trust him.
Hellboy: Enough with the chit-chat. We've got shit to do.
Kent Nelson: The demon is right.
Hellboy: I have a name, jackass.
Vandal Savage: Then what are we waiting for? We must get moving swiftly.
Kent Nelson: We are still awaiting those I have summoned.
?: (As he lights a cigarette in the darkened hallway) No need to wait, guv. They're here.
(And with that, the smoking figure is revealed, a man in a trenchcoat who kind of looks like Sting if I'm being honest)
Blaze: Who's this guy?
Zatanna: John?
John Constantine: Good to see you too, Z.
Zatanna: I thought you said you were done with this!
John Constantine: Turns out I forgot I owed Fate a favor before I left with my family.
Kent Nelson: And I do appreciate you coming back after all this time.
John Constantine: Don't think I like this for one minute, Fate. You owe me big time for this. Especially with the baggage I'm carrying around for this.
Blaze: Baggage? And where's this other guy you called on, Kent?
John Constantine: Oh, leave that to me. Give me a second to call on him. (Clears his throat) Here goes nothing. Change, Change, O Form of Man! Free The Prince Forever Damned! Free The Might From Fleshy Mire! Boil The Blood In Heart Of Fire!
(And as John Constantine repeats this rhyme, he catches fire slowly changing to shorter, stockier, more evil looking figure)
Etrigan: Gone, Gone, The Form Of Man! Arise The Demon, ETRIGAN!
Blaze: (Recognizing the figure) Etrigan?! Is that really you!?
Etrigan: This is no farce; I play no games. Tis I indeed, milady of flames.
Blaze: How long has it been, old friend!
Etrigan: To long my friend, to long indeed, since I have laid my eyes on thee.
Zatanna: Wait, how do you know Etrigan already?
Blaze: If it weren't for him, I wouldn't have made it out of Nairobi alive.
Zatanna: And since when are Etrigan and John bonded?
Kent Nelson: I can answer that. The ghoul Crane is about to unleash is one of the most powerful. And in these situations, it makes sense to fight Demon with Demon. But Etrigan was stuck in Hell without a host. Hence me convincing John to get involved.
Etrigan: Speaking of the unfortunate mage, he'd best return 'fore facing my brethren's rage. Gone, Gone, O Etrigan!
(As Etrigan recites the spell, he is again consumed in flames, before being replaced with John Constantine)
John Constantine: Return Again, The Form Of Man. (Brushing ash from his shoulder) Couldn't have gotten back at a better time. Asmodeus was about to go for my spleen.
Zatanna: You always did have a knack for pissing off demons.
Kent Nelson: If we are all acquainted, we had best get moving. If that ghoul is freed, it will mark the end for us.
Blaze: For like the third time in now three years.
John Constantine: And this is exactly why I got out of this. This place is always on the verge of collapse.
Kent Nelson: John, I assure you, your daughter will see you again.
John Constantine: (Stomps out his cigarette) Let's do this then.
Kent Nelson: Very well.
(And with that, Kent Nelson dons the Helm of Fate, turning into Doctor Fate)
Doctor Fate: We must make haste.
(With that ominous message, Doctor Fate opens another ankh door, leading out towards the Himalayas.)
Blaze: Well then, here we go. Let's hope Fate doesn't screw me over this time.
Zatanna: Do I even want to know what happened between you two?
Blaze: No, no you don't.
(And as everyone exits into the Himalayas, our tale ends for today)
And that looks like a good spot to wrap up for today. And quite the set of debuts! Two characters that Injustice did pretty well. One purposely staying out of things, and the other fate unclear. John Constantine and Etrigan. Truth be told, I wasn't always planning on Constantine being here, but Etrigan was always on my working list for this team. But since Jason Blood, his usual host, is canonically deceased in the Injustice World, I needed a new host. And Constantine was just available since after Year 3 of the comics there weren't a lot of the mystical heroes left who could have hosted Etrigan. But, the Demon of Merlin is here now, and I can't wait to see how he and Hellboy interact. They ought to be a scream. So what awaits our supernatural team of spellbinders? Tune in next time to find out! Same time... same channel!
