(Y/N) is very sick, and Ratchet doesn't have the medication he needs. Thanks to the storm, it's not an easy task to get the medication Ratchet needs. Meanwhile, Wheeljack is being a total aft, terrified he's watching his sparkmate die.
Ratchet's P.O.V.
The storm is getting worse and is expected to last another twenty-four hours. Prime reminds me we have a generator if the power goes out as I talk about a possible action I might have to take, which would be a challenge without power. However, we'll have Wheeljack to deal with if I have to take that route. As it is, he's terrified he's watching (Y/N) die. Her fever is still at 103°, but that's still dangerous. Wheeljack listens to the nonsense she's saying while I worry she'll say things she'll regret. Out of all the medications I have to be prepared, I don't have the one I need. As I research, I find out most people who get pneumonia are elders. That explains why June didn't give me medication to treat it just in case. (Y/N) is too sick to wait until the storm passes.
"...I need you to send me a bottle of Ribavirin," I explain to June.
The pause before June speaks is not a good sign.
" I can't leave, it's terrible out there, and we're short-staffed. Let me see if Fowler can help."
She hangs up.
"WHAT THE FRAG ARE YOU DOING?!" Wheeljack yells.
"Wheeljack, Ratchet is doing all he can to help (Y/N)," Optimus tries to calm the wrecker.
My fear is realized as I hear (Y/N) gasping for air. Wheeljack walks in as I switch to a non-rebreather mask.
"She's struggling to breathe as it is!" Wheeljack argues.
"This will help, or I put this in," I tell him showing him the breathing tube, "with this, (Y/N) will be sedated to the point she's asleep."
Which might be better for her, but I figured letting her be awake would help Wheeljack. He sits by the bed and holds her hand. I don't think she's aware who's here.
"Ratchet, open a ground bridge!" Fowler orders.
Rude aft.
I do as he wants. He runs through and towards the medbay.
He looks at (Y/N) — who is asleep — as I prepare the IV bag.
"It's terrible out there; no way you'd get her to the hospital," Ratchet explains.
"I think it's better for both her and Wheeljack. He's having a hard time as it is. Even though he has a holoform, I don't think he'd be good in the hospital."
"No, let me know if you need any other medication and how she's doing."
It's clear Fowler is not pleased he has to leave. I open the ground bridge for him.
The others don't want to go into recharge, but there's nothing they can do. Wheeljack argues he's staying with (Y/N). We both get a little recharge until midnight when we hear (Y/N) crying and coughing, making it hard for her to breathe even while on oxygen. She cries for Wheeljack. He activates his holoform and takes her hand.
"I'm right here," he assures her, "please, Ratchet help her."
It's hard to believe Wheeljack is crying.
"I've done most of what I can do. We need to wait for the medicine to work."
I ho back into recharge, but Wheeljack stays up with (Y/N).
I wake up to Wheeljack still awake.
"She was up all night, coughing," Wheeljack tells me, "she's been asleep for four hours."
This could be good, but I need to wake sure.
"There's still a little fluid in her lungs, but coughing is a good thing. Though the downside is she is going to be tired."
(Y/N) groans and opens her eyes. Wheeljack hugs her and cries.
Third-person P.O.V.
The others hear Wheeljack crying and rush to the medbay. They wait a few minutes before they get a better view of (Y/N). She's awake though she looks exhausted.
"The medication is working," Ratchet explains, "though now she's struggling to sleep due to the increased coughing," Ratchet explains, "it's going to be a week or two before she feels better, but she's getting there."
Everyone is happy to hear the news.
Optimus tells Wheeljack he can stay with (Y/N) rather than go on missions unless it's an emergency.
Ratchet calls Fowler and tells him (Y/N) is getting better and to thank June for the medication.
Optimus has everyone but Wheeljack and Ratchet head into town to inspect for damage.
"Hey, doc, I'm sorry for yelling at you," Wheeljack apologizes, "I was terrified she was dying."
"I know; I worried she would also die. This wasn't good, Wheeljack. This was close to what human seniors would face. She might be well enough to leave the medbay in a week, but it'll be a while before she can go on missions. I wouldn't forbid her from going on missions, either."
"That's ok; I have other things in mind."
Ratchet walks away, shaking his helm in disgust.
Like I needed to know that. He thinks. I'd know you two fragged if (Y/N) ends up pregnant. That's the only way I want to know any couple did it.
