James and Mark's potion-induced mirth seemed to endlessly continue.
Harriet and Tom had barely managed to settle their giddy sons into a state of calm when Lawrence appeared with the newly-arrived letter.
"Has it come?" Harriet asked Tom urgently as he snatched the parcel out of the servant's hands.
"It has….." He whispered as he turned the envelope over. His dark eyes flashed at Harriet before he whispered excitedly, "It has! James!" He called to their eldest boy, "Come here!"
James stood from his seat on the floor next to Mark and walked over to his parents before his father placed the letter in his hand with a smile.
"Read it, son. It's finally here." Tom grinned.
James carefully opened the envelope and pulled out the letter it contained before he read aloud, "Mr. Thomas James Arthur Riddle III, we would like to inform you that you have been accepted to Hogwarts….School of Witchcraft and Wizardry."
James blinked up at his parents with a stupefied look of wonder on his face before the four family members erupted into glad cheers.
Harriet hugged James.
Tom rustled his hair.
Mark rushed to congratulate his brother.
With James' eleventh birthday approaching, Harriet and Tom had known their son would soon receive his invitation to the castle, yet that notion had failed to fill the happiness of the special moment.

For the rest of the day, James babbled on about Hogwarts.
Although it pained him to leave Lily and his family behind, he could hardly wait to begin his magical education.
Harriet and Tom gladly regaled their sons with one harrowing tale after another from their own days as students at the castle.
Mark listened to his parents' stories with a broken heart as he tried to absorb every last second he would have with his elder brother until they were forced to part.
The afternoon passed by quickly.
Mae didn't learn the upsetting news until that evening when she came to dinner.
"...Your mother and I will take you to Ollivander's for a wand. He'll find the exact one for you, have no worries about that, son." Tom nodded.
"Thanks, Dad." James smiled, "Do you think I could have a pet too?"
"What are you talking about, James?" Mae laughed, "Isn't Asherah good enough?"
"...She can't come with me to Hogwarts." James explained as he turned to his sister.
The colour drained from Mae's fair face, "...What?"
"I…..I got my letter today." James nodded, "I'll be headed to school this autumn."
"We'll miss you, brother." Mark said with a bittersweet smile.
Harriet's instincts gnawed at her as she watched Mae gasp for breath.
Tom's work kept him at the Ministry for long hours.
The realization that she would soon lose James only to be left alone with her idiot brother and stupid mother nauseated Mae.
"I……I have to go lie down." She croaked as she suddenly stood from the table and rushed out of the dining room.
"Mae!" Harriet called.
"Your mother's talking to you!" Tom shouted.
Their cries were ignored.
Mae stomped down the hallway and up the stairs with angry tears pouring from her emerald eyes.

After dinner, James and Mark played together while Harriet and Tom spoke to their distraught sister.
"Daddy……." Mae whispered as she laid against Tom's chest, "Daddy, please…….Please, I have to."
Harriet sat next to Tom on Mae's bed as she gently stroked her dark, wavy tresses while Tom patted her back.
"Sweetheart, you've never wanted to go to Hogwarts before." Harriet frowned, "You'll be three years behind in lessons unless they let you enter as a first year…….Then the other students will be much younger than you. Are you unhappy with your tutors?"
"Daddy……" Mae begged Tom as she ignored Harriet, "Daddy, please, can't you send me to school with James?"
Tom glanced at Harriet as he began, "Mae, I-"
"-You told me you could do anything!" Mae sniffed as she wisely stroked Tom's ego, "You're the most powerful man in our world!"
It was fascinating to think that Mae could still lay on Tom's chest as it inflated with his own pride while she laid against him.
He resisted the urge to bask in his own glory as Harriet's disapproving glare bore into him, "Your mother and I," Tom began, purposefully roping Harriet back into the conversation, "...Will request a meeting with the headmaster to inquire if you may enroll…….I confess, my princess, I am shocked. You've never shown any interest at all in the castle. Why now? Is it only because of James? Will you miss him that badly?"
Harriet and Tom exchanged a glance as Mae fought for her breath against her chest-wracking sobs.
"I…..I don….don't want to be….without him. B-Brother is my very best friend!" She wailed as she covered her face with her hands.
"Don't cry, my princess, don't cry." Tom cooed in his smooth voice.
Harriet frowned as she watched her alpha soothe their fourteen-year-old daughter in the same manner he had used when she had been a small child.
"Mummy and Daddy will do what's necessary to see that you make it to the castle." Tom smiled.
"Really?" Mae asked with an exaggerated gasp as she pulled back to look up at Tom.
She tried her best to ignore Harriet as if she had never existed at all.
"Yes, your mother and I certainly will." Tom nodded as his dark eyes flickered over to his mate.
Consumed by the need to alarm her father with her own theatrical desperation, Mae let out a great, wailing shriek as she collapsed against Tom and threw herself into an entirely new set of gut-wrenching sobs.
Tom junior, the man many witches and wizards feared, found himself close to tears as he listened to his distraught child.
Harriet had to sit on her hands to avoid strangling her teenager.
Her husband was a brilliant wizard.
How then, with his great intellect and unending talent, could he be daft enough to play right into Mae's hands every time?

Harriet decided to employ a method similar to her daughter's.
If Mae could use her hold on Tom to get whatever she wanted, then Harriet decided perhaps she could utilize her own position to make him finally see the truth.
Once they retired to their room that night, Tom junior took a long shower to clear his mind while Harriet chose to clean herself with a swift spell.
His dark eyes widened as he emerged from the bathroom sometime later with the steam billowing out into the bedroom from the open door like trails of white smoke.
"Well, hello, sweetling……" He chuckled as a mischievous grin ghosted over his handsome face, "...What an unexpected treat!"
Harriet had crawled into her nest bare and made sure to put herself on full display.
She had cast the spell herself that had wrapped enchanted binds around her wrists and ankles.
Her arms had been pulled towards the corners of the bed.
Her knees had been spread wide apart to leave her open and exposed for Tom to satisfy his most lascivious desires without inhibition.
He cackled wickedly as he crawled onto the bed and approached, "You're going to send me into a rut like this, you naughty little-"
Tom stopped as he found himself greeted by an immovable, invisible wall that barred him from touching his omega.
Harriet smirked at the dumbfounded look of bewilderment that fell across his face.
He read her mind in a single glance as he pressed a hand against that pesky barrier.
"A blocking spell?" He scoffed, "It's not like you to be so cruel, sweetling. Tell me, what have I done to deserve such barbarity?"
"You have to learn to say 'no', Tom. If you stop being a puppet……I dunno, then perhaps I'll let you use me as yours." Harriet whispered.
Tom scowled down at his mate while she took the opportunity to stretch herself.
She bit her lip to contain her laugh as she watched Tom glance down to gawk at her waiting center.
He had never bothered to hide his insatiable desire for his mate.
"W-What are you talking about, Harriet?" Tom asked as he swallowed thickly.
"Mae." She whispered.
Tom's dark gaze instantly met hers.
"You're not her father, Tom, you're her toy, that's what she thinks……and that's what you show her! What kind of alpha does that? Allows himself to be controlled by his own child?...A little girl?!" Harriet frowned.
"On the contrary, my love," Tom chuckled, "It is I who controls Mae. I knew she would ask to follow James to Hogwarts when the day came. I'm no fool, although I have greatly enjoyed having her with us for these three extra years." He grinned.
Harriet failed to return his expression.
"I don't believe you." She sighed as she slowly pulled her arm down.
Tom watched as the magical chain restraining her wrist gradually extended.
His heart raced as Harriet's fingers crept over her abdomen and past her navel to brush against the curls that guarded the entrance of her -
"Do you intend to tease me into a frenzy?" He hissed.
"I intend to make you watch, Tom. Be nice and obedient for me, won't you? Like the good puppet you are…….." Harriet smiled, knowing she had placed her mate on a dangerous edge, "I thought that I married an alpha, but I suppose you've proven me wrong."
Tom's eyes narrowed to slits as Harriet arched her back and moaned while her fingers found her most sensitive place, hidden in the folds of her delicate sex.
Her nipples hardened in the chilly night air while her eyes closed.
She tilted her chin towards the ceiling as she gradually increased the pace of her ministrations.
The sight ignited something feral in Tom's dark heart.
Before Harriet could open her eyes, her mate's wand was in his hand.
He blasted through the invisible wall her spell had erected and crashed into his lover as their lips met.
"She won't get her way anymore." Harriet panted as her back raked roughly against their bedroom wall while Tom held her there, with her legs around his waist as they made love, "Promise me!"
"She won't get her way, sweetling, but I'll always get mine." He growled in a husky response.
The guttural cry that left Harriet's lips as he throbbed inside her elicited a dark, gasping laugh from his chest.
She whimpered as Tom nipped her ear and hissed, "You're mine, Harriet Riddle. My wife, my love, my omega……forever"
