Welcome back to The Injustice Wars. Last time, Shade and his team made it to Ysmault. And almost immediately, the Red Lanterns, led by Atrocitus, confronted them. Atrocitus is naturally angry that Green Lantern, Hal Jordan in this case, is still free for his crimes as a Yellow Lantern. Shade knows firsthand how bad that variant of Hal Jordan was, reminiscing on a scar on his side. Atrocitus offers a bargain: he'll give them the information they seek in exchange for Hal Jordan's life. We left before Shade could answer. Well, today, we're focusing back on Blaze and her team. So what are the mystically inclined up to? Read on to discover...
(Our story resumes on the side of a mountain in the Himalayas, where Blaze, Doctor Fate, Zatanna, Hellboy, Vandal Savage, Raiden, and John Constantine enter the scene)
John Constantine: Because of course the evil dragon couldn't be hiding somewhere sunny. You know, like a reptile probably would.
Blaze: Dragons with Fire heritage, regardless of element, can keep themselves warm no matter what. And those with Ice heritage are better able to retain heat. Hence how they can survive in cold environments. Drago has both.
John Constantine: Right, Purple Dragon and all that shite.
Blaze: Not just that way. His father has strong Fire lineage and his mother's half Shadow half Ice. So he would've had those traits regardless.
Zatanna: Explains why you're completely fine while not wearing a coat.
Doctor Fate: Now is not the time for this drivel. We must locate that scepter before the ghoul can be unleashed.
Raiden: Perhaps we would be making more progress if we knew where we were going.
Blaze: If we're where I think we are, we're not far.
Vandal Savage: I can confirm that to be the case.
Blaze: Then everybody stick close. If this storm gets any worse, we'll be separated.
(With that, the group sets off deeper into the mountains, hoping to find Scarecrow before he gets to Darkblood. But as they traverse, we focus in on Scarecrow himself, still carrying the scepter, only now distinctly frostbitten.)
Scarecrow: We've been lost in this storm for hours now. I'm not even sure he's here.
(Fatigued and freezing, Scarecrow falls over into the snow, unable to move even another step.)
Scarecrow: I guess... even I couldn't survive forever...
(And with that, Scarecrow passes out. But just as he does, the source of the storm walks up and finds him, revealing it to be Killer Frost. Fast forward a few minutes and Scarecrow is regaining consciousness, as we see the setup he's now found himself in. Orca and Hyena are slowly warming him up and tending to his wounds, with Killer Frost and Darkblood standing in front of him, where we soon see he's chained to the wall)
Darkblood: (To Killer Frost) And you say you just found him like this?
Killer Frost: Exactly. Don't ask me how the hell he survived Metropolis, because I certainly don't know.
Darkblood: And you say he was carrying a scepter with him?
Killer Frost: Yeah. He seemed really desperate to keep that thing in his grasp, at least from a distance.
Darkblood: (Noticing Scarecrow is awake) Looks like we'll get to ask the good doctor ourselves. (To Orca and Hyena) Leave us.
Orca and Hyena: Yes, Lord Darkblood.
(Without emotion or will, Orca and Hyena leave the room, leaving Darkblood and Killer Frost alone with Scarecrow)
Darkblood: You're lucky my bride found you when she did, else you'd likely have frozen to death.
Scarecrow: In a storm of her own creation no doubt. (Realizes what he's just heard) Wait, did you just say bride?
Killer Frost: Yeah, I got hitched. So what?
Darkblood: My dear, why don't you go wait with your fellows. I'll see what the professor wants.
Killer Frost: (With a slight curtsy) Gladly, this guy always gave me the creeps.
Scarecrow: You and Killer Frost? I'll be honest, I always suspected you'd end up with Enchantress, or maybe Raven now that she's gone full dark.
Darkblood: (With a perverse growl) Who said I didn't?
Scarecrow: Really?
Darkblood: Yes, all three of them. At the same time. Is it really that surprising to you? In your myths dragons always have a horde of some sort. You usually went with treasure. So I guess I have more of a harem than a horde. But enough of my sex life. What are you doing here?
Scarecrow: I came looking for you.
Darkblood: That doesn't tell me very much. And I will warn you, Crane. I'm not nearly as patient as I seem. So unless you want to end up like your literary namesake, I suggest you start giving me answers.
Scarecrow: Everything will be revealed by what I came with.
Darkblood: The scepter you mean?
Scarecrow: Yes. Something about it speaks to me.
Darkblood: Are you sure that your head's on straight, Professor Crane? If not, I can get you a discount on an enchanted pumpkin or something.
Scarecrow: I'm not crazy.
Darkblood: Considering you survived Joker's Smilex toxin, somehow, you'll forgive me for being sure.
Scarecrow: Surely you felt the power radiating from it!
Darkblood: (Realizing he has a point) Now that you mention it, I did.
Scarecrow: Whatever it is wants to be released. And we both figured, since Grodd and Brainiac think I'm dead, that you'd be the best person to do it.
Darkblood: So you only wanted me to crack open the scepter.
Scarecrow: I propose an alliance. Perhaps we could share the power of what's within?
Darkblood: You have my attention, Crane. (His stomach growls) Perhaps we should discuss this over dinner. Surely you must be hungry after your trek.
Scarecrow: (Thinks about it) Yeah, I could eat.
Darkblood: Good, we'll discuss this over dinner then. (Snaps his fingers, at which point, Orca and Hyena reemerge) Get him down from the wall and have Multiplex set a table for five. Decisions are happening over dinner.
Orca and Hyena: Yes, Lord Darkblood.
(And on that note, we transition back to the storm outside, where Blaze and company have just stumbled upon Crane's trail)
Hellboy: Looks like the trial goes dead.
Vandal Savage: (Pulls a scrap of Scarecrow's mask out of the snow) He's been here though. Now we just have to figure out where he's gone.
Blaze: (Spies something in the snow) And we won't have to look very far. Take a look.
(At this point, we see what Blaze sees, a second set of footprints in the snow. And this set is much smaller than those provided by Scarecrow's lanky frame)
Zatanna: There's only one other person who would be out in a blizzard like this.
Blaze: Killer Frost. If I had to guess, she took Crane to Darkblood. We don't have much time then. Let's get after them.
(And as the group takes off in Killer Frost's direction, our tale ends for today)
And that looks like a good spot to leave off for today. So, Scarecrow and Darkblood meet up, and are planning their continued relationship over dinner. So that's going to happen. Will Blaze and company be able to reach them in time to stop this alliance? Tune in next time to start finding out! Same time... same channel!
