Welcome back to The Injustice Wars. Last time, Shade refused to give over Green Lantern to the Red Lanterns, and started a battle between them. And in that moment, Atrocitus realizes Shade has a massive amount of rage in his heart, and tries to induct him into the Red Lantern Corps. Green Lantern is the only one who's able to save him at this point, so will he? Read on to at last discover...
(Our scene resumes exactly as we left it. Atrocitus is trying to force a Red Lantern Ring on Shade's finger, and Green Lantern is nearby, and able to stop him. Knowing what he knows, and above all what Shade thinks of him. In this moment, Green Lantern could very easily abandon Shade to this fate. And from the look on his face, glancing back and forth between the situation and his Green Lantern Ring, he has no idea what to do. But eventually, he steels his determination and flies in a direction we don't see. Focusing back on Atrocitus and Shade, we see Shade is struggling valiantly to not take the Red Ring, but Atrocitus is slowly whittling down his resolve.)
Atrocitus: Cease this inane resistance, dragon! We both know this is your destiny!
(And it looks like Shade is subtly starting to agree, since the Red Ring advances further down his finger. Shade can already feel his heart stop functioning as the ring takes its place. Shade shuts his eyes as if to accept this as his fate. But then suddenly, something hits Atrocitus upside the head, knocking him away. When Shade opens his eyes, he sees what did it. A Green Lantern construct of a giant boot, wielded by Green Lantern, having decided to act.)
Green Lantern: Stay away from my teammate, Atrocitus.
Shade: (Getting back to his wings) Thanks for the save. Even after everything I said about you.
Green Lantern: Never once said it wasn't true. You're right. I have a long road to redemption ahead of me. Let's just hope this sets me off on the right foot. (Remembers his construct was a giant boot, then dissipating it) No pun intended.
Shade: A shame, that was probably the first time you've ever been funny.
(As Green Lantern rolls his eyes at Shade's sarcastic remark, Atrocitus gets his bearings and returns to the scene)
Atrocitus: YOU WILL PAY FOR THAT, HAL JORDAN!
Green Lantern: You want the first shot? Or should I take it?
Shade: I'd say you already did.
Green Lantern: Fair enough.
(As the two are about to deliver a blow to Atrocitus, we transition back to the Himalayas, where Blaze and her team are working their way towards Darkblood's lair in The Nameless City. But notably Blaze is looking uneasily at Doctor Fate, and Nabu has noticed)
Doctor Fate: I sense you have something you wish to discuss.
Blaze: (Realizing she's never going to get a better chance.) Yeah, as a matter of fact I do. It's got to do with Kent, and how you lied to him about Inza's death.
Doctor Fate: (Sighs) I see he has told you about the defeat of the ghoul.
Blaze: Yeah. One thing that's been bothering me about that story. Why the heck would Inza work with you, knowing you'd already almost gotten her husband killed a few times?
Doctor Fate: There was a mission to be accomplished. She was able to complete it.
Blaze: That doesn't answer my question. Not even remotely.
(As Doctor Fate continues to ignore her, Blaze starts thinking about it, and puts together the horrifying truth)
Blaze: You forced her, didn't you?
Doctor Fate: I do not like what you are insinuating.
Blaze: This is more than an insinuation, isn't it? It's a statement of the truth and you know it! You slipped your vile Helm over Inza's head and threw her to her death like she as a puppet dancing to your tune. And then you rewrote Kent's memories so he wouldn't know what you did.
Doctor Fate: This is not the time for this discussion.
Blaze: What did you tell Kent? That Inza willingly became Fate? What else are you keeping from the guy who's life you've stolen!
Doctor Fate: ENOUGH! IF YOU ARE UNABLE TO KEEP YOURSELF ON THE TASK AT HAND, I WILL SEND YOU BACK!
Blaze: Bite me, helmet head!
(When the two are about to duke it out, lightning shoots out, keeping them apart, as Raiden breaks them up)
Raiden: I understand you two have a troubled history, and the situation of this Inza is not helping it. But we must put aside these differences for now, if we are ever going to stop this demon from returning.
Blaze: (Sighs angrily, with flames spewing from the side of her mouth) Raiden's got a point. (Back to Doctor Fate) But don't forget this, if it comes down to it, I won't hesitate to sacrifice you to stop this thing, Fate.
Doctor Fate: And I you.
Blaze: That much was obvious. You've never been one to care about the innocents whose lives you ruin. But unlike you with me, I was willing to give you a chance. I see now that was a mistake.
(With that, Blaze tromps off ahead, needing a moment to be alone. And in this moment, Raiden and Doctor Fate talk)
Raiden: I knew you could not be trusted, Nabu. But if what I have heard of this Inza is true, you have grown even more despicable since the last time I met you.
Doctor Fate: (As Raiden rejoins the group) I should never have let Kent Nelson talk me into bringing them.
(And with that, Doctor Fate rejoins the group, but not before a tear from Kent Nelson falls onto his suit, ending our tale for today)
And that looks like a good spot to end for now. A lot of questions answered, at least partially regarding the Inza thing. More on that much later. If it looks like Doctor Fate is just begging for Blaze to kick his ass, that's kind of intentional. I won't spoil too much, but I will say that you really shouldn't expect Doctor Fate to meet the same fate he did in the game. Things are going to be different in this world. So, what comes next? Tune in next time to find out! Same time... same channel!
