The next day, Blackbeard had brought the ship to another shore and ordered his crew to bring the mermaid with them in the glass coffin. Four zombie crew-men held the glass coffin as they marched through the sand. Blackbeard was in front with Angelica that held onto a blind folded Jack. Behind them was Scrum and Phillip with the Girls. They started to climb up a hill with the ship in the background. After they were far enough away, Blackbeard stopped Jack in his tracks. He then ripped off the blindfold while saying, "It's to you now, Sparrow."
"Was that really necessary?" Asked Jack once he could see again.
"Best you not know the exact whereabouts of my ship," Blackbeard responded. "I be a cautious man."
"So be I," Jack replied. He then took out his compass to find a heading. "What I want first…" The clicking of the compass showed where the direction to head in. "...is Ponce De Leon's ship." With a gruff, Blackbeard motioned the group in the direction that Jack was leading. Away they went, from the ragged shore to the lush jungle. A couple hours go by and they're now trudging through a small muddy river. During the hours, Scrum was forced to take over for the Quartermaster as he was struggling to keep steady. The mermaid longingly dragged her hand down the coffin's side as she looked at the river, wanting to be free.
"Why is it we've got to bring her along?" Scrum asked with a shaky breath.
"Because tears don't keep. We need them fresh," Angelica replied rather bluntly from over her shoulder.
"And I wouldn't keep them fresh for you," Carmella replied with a roll of her eyes.
"What is the ritual again?" Jack asked as he sidestepped a few vines. "Water from the fountain and a Mermaid's Tear?"
"And two silver chalices. Once cup with a tear, one without," Angelica replied.
"So, one with a tear and water in both?" Jack asked as a follow up question. "Quite complicated, is it not?"
"Not really," Faye said, but got a sigh from Angelica.
"Both get water. One gets a tear," Angelica explains exasperebly. All the while Blackbeard was listening and watching the two, while also making sure the demi-gods behaved. "The person who drinks the water with the tear gets all the years of life from the other."
"How many years? Whoa," Jack said as they got into deeper waters and tried to bypass a coral snake.
Angelica grabbed the snake and wrapped it around herself like a boa, "All the years that they have lived, and they could have lived, if fate had been kinder," She said in a sultry, threatening, and bitter way as she brought the snake closer to Jack's face. When the snake got inches from his face, it opened its mouth and hissed.
Carmella, getting fed up with her attitude, gently grabbed the snake and brought it out of Angelica's hand and into the water behind them where it swam away from the group and into the jungle. "You know he's not the only one to blame for your predicament. You could have refused him, it does take two to tango after all." Angelica just glared at her while Blackbeard wasn't phased.
It wasn't long till they stopped for a break by a small, clean creek. Where Phillip was getting some water to drink as well to cool off. Jack went to ask him a question, he kneeled down while Carmella and Faye were watching from behind him. "Clergyman."
"His name is Phillip, Jack," Carmella said with a sigh.
"It is only right, since we have known him for months," Faye said with a nod.
Jack nodded to the two girls before correcting himself, "Phillip?" The boy looked up when the three were talking and raised a brow which gave the signal to Jack to continue. "On the off chance that this does not go well for me, I would like it noted here and now that I am fully prepared to believe in whatever I must, so that I may be welcomed into that place where all the goody-goodies get to go. Savvy?"
Both Carmella and Faye just groaned and facepalmed.
"We have a word for that, Jack. You can convert," Phillip said while the two girls snorted.
"I was thinking more of an as-needed basis," Jack replied.
Phillip was going to say something before looking over and seeing the mermaid struggling to breathe. She was gasping and that made him stand up quickly, which brought the attention to Faye and Carmella. "Quartermaster!" He called.
"Aye?" Was his simple reply.
"She cannot breathe!" He explained.
"She has water," The Quartermaster stated simply which irked Carmella.
"She needs air!" Phillip explained as he rushed over to the coffin and tried to open it. "Open this."
"She will escape," He continued in his monotone voice.
"To WHERE!" Carmella exclaimed as they were now on solid ground.
"You're killing her," Phillip said, getting a bit angry.
"I support the missionary's position," stated Jack, Carmella and Faye in unison.
The Quartermaster just laughed before Phillip grabbed onto his sword and placed it in between the edges of the top of the coffin and pried it open a bit. Allowing air to come in, and for the poor mermaid to breathe. She begins to pant. "See?" Phillip said.
"And I believe that your First Mate and Captain NEEDS her alive," Carmella said bluntly with Faye nodding.
The Quartermaster just glared at Phillip as he pulled out his sword, but the clergyman had placed his small hand bible into the crack to keep it open. Seeing how the mermaid needed some help, the two girls used their powers to help circulate the water and air inside so that she was comfortable. The mermaid looked at the two and gave a small smile as a thank you.
"Onward!" Ordered Blackbeard as he had witnessed everything, not seeing a problem or anything that was worth his time, he got his crew to move on. Before the coffin was lifted again, Phillip and the mermaid had caught each other's gaze. His was full of sympathy, while hers was of silent gratitude
