A/N:
I haven't posted any stories in quite a while. And this is my first venture into the lovely world of Hawaii (5-0). Hopefully, it turns out to be a fun adventure and a good read for you wonderful visitors, readers, and authors on this platform.
I do not own "Hawaii 5-0" or its characters. I do not make any money with this.
Furthermore, I took some liberties with this story for the effect. It's pure fiction, isn't it?
All mistakes in it are mine. So, if you find any, please hand them back. :-)
Summary:
Steve and Danny go on a fishing trip which goes horribly wrong leaving the two of them injured and shipwrecked. (Not much plot, rather whump, hurt and comfort.)
Alright then, enough talking - let's get started. Have fun reading.
Cheers,
Biensche

All the ocean's water can't sink a ship unless it gets inside the ship.

A fishing trip. That's all it was supposed to be. A simple fishing trip. How could that turn into this downright awful – to say the least – nightmare?
It was their weekend off. Since Rachel took Grace and Charlie for a travel to God-knows-where, Danny had eagerly planned his fishing trip. Steve had mocked him about hating the ocean so much, that he had decided weeks ago to take this little trip on his own to try it out and figure out how much he enjoyed fishing on the ocean. He had chartered a small vessel, checked his fishing rods, and now he had been about to leave. As he opened the door fully loaded with all kinds of baggage, Steve stood in front of his door his hand raised ready to knock.
"Danny." Steve was surprised his hand still lingering in midair.
Danny had stopped midstride looking confused at his friend. "Steve, mind to take that down?" Danny motioned his head towards Steve's hand. "Or is there anything you need to slap me for?"
"Oh, uh, no", Steve stammered as he lowered his arm to his side.
"So, what are you doing here? Aren't we gonna meet tonight at your place for a barbecue? Did you miss me so much?"
"Uhm... You wish. I brought coffee." Steve raised his other hand which held two paper cups.
"Nice, but I was just about to leave." Danny pushed forward so Steve had to take a step back outside. Adjusting his luggage, Danny fumbled with his keys to lock the door to his home.
"Hawaii?" Steve asked pointing at all the bags and other stuff Danny carried.
"What?" Danny asked and turned around to stare at Steve locking the door completely forgotten.
"Leaving Hawaii? Without saying good-bye?" Steve wiped his eyes teasingly. He knew Danny wasn't leaving but he just couldn't resist. And Danny didn't disappoint.
Rolling his eyes and inhaling deeply, Danny answered annoyed, as he walked towards his car, "Noooo, I'm not leaving Hawaii. Of course not. My kids are here. How could I leave this hellish island? I'm not going anywhere. Most definitely not! This god-forsaken island is stuck with me." Letting his bags drop behind his car by the trunk, he turned around to face his taller friend. "You, my dear Steven, are stuck with me!"
Steve had lingered behind at the front door of Danny's home for a moment before he followed his partner to his car. A bright smile painted across his face.
"Lucky you have ears otherwise your disgusting smile would go all around your face", Danny mumbled before he continued to ask with an irritated tone, "Now, what's so funny? Care to share?"
"Oh, well, your rant has been quite impressive", Steve replied waiting for the grand finale and again Danny rose to the bait.
"Impressive, huh? I'll show you impressive-"
"Open the car, Danno", Steve interrupted. His voice was calm but his face betrayed his great amusement.
Danny glared at his friend and pushed his right hand in the front pocket of his pants. His face took on a confused look. Frowning, he shoved his left hand in his front pocket. Frantically, he patted his shirt and pants and all over. Then he turned around and began searching all around his bags.
Steve barely suppressed his chuckling. "Now, this is funny."
From his crouched down position, Danny growled in frustration and anger but he didn't give Steve the satisfaction of looking up to him.
Until, suddenly, he heard a little jingling sound. His head shot up to look at Steve who held out his hand with a keychain including car keys in his outstretched hand.
"Well, thank you!" Danny grumbled as he got up and snatched the keys from Steve's grasp. "No, actually, no, no thank you at all! You tricked me. You played me. You let me search through all my pockets and belongings having the keys with you all the time. Not nice, Steven, not nice at all."
"Not my fault you left the hanging in your front door, buddy", Steve cackled before he burst out laughing. "I locked it by the way."
Sending a glare his friend's way, Danny stowed his bags and rods away and out of habit he walked around his car to the passenger side and got in.
"So, where are we going?" Steve asked from the driver's seat. His face held an expectant expression. "Obviously, were not spending the day with a game on TV, pizza, and beer."
Only now, Danny seemed to realize in which place he sat. Inhaling, he shifted in his seat to get a better look at the dark-haired man. "We? We? Well, Steven, you have a barbecue coming up tonight at your place. And in case you haven't noticed I packed fishing rods. Meaning, I'm going fishing because that's what you do with those kinds of things. Where you are going, I have no idea!"
Danny was about to exit the car, walk around it to the driver's side, fling open the door and make Steve get out. But before he had the chance, the car roared to life and Steve took off.
"Whoa! Warn a guy, will ya?" Danny complained as he grabbed hastily for the seat belt to buckle himself in. "Unlike you, I don't have a death wish!"
"I didn't know we were going fishing. I would have brought-"
"Right, you didn't know. That's because I just wanted a quiet day out on the ocean-"
"Quiet? You? Ocean? You? What's wrong with you? Since when do you enjoy quiet and the ocean?"
oooOOOooo
And this was how they had ended up together on the small vessel. Actually, it had been a quite nice day, even if Danny had intended to spend it by himself and the fish and the ocean but Steve's company wasn't all that bad. Not that he would admit it out loud. He would never live it down. Steve had had too much fun already with him wanted to spend a quiet day – obviously his friends and coworkers seemed to think that he was never quiet and still – on the ocean - obviously they also seemed to think that he hated the ocean. Given that he had complained about this island and the ocean quite a few times, last time just before they got in the car, it shouldn't be too big of a surprise actually.
Both men enjoyed the time on the boat, away from work, away from criminals, murderers, drug sellers, away from all the sorrows and worries which would await them once they stepped back through the office doors.
The soft up and down bobbing on the water almost lulled them to sleep, the fishing rods forgotten as they just lay on the seats in the stern of the ship breathing in the salty sea air, feeling the warm sun on their skin and the fresh breeze which cooled their skin and ruffled their hair.
Steve put his empty beer bottle aside and leaned over the boxes to retrieve a new cold one. "What's all this?" He asked as he peeked inside the coolers.
Danny didn't even bother to open his eyes and answered, "I made some noodle salad last night for my trip."
Sensing Steve's frown, Danny said, "What? A man can't cook a meal for himself?"
"Sure, he can but… you?" Steve looked over to his blonde friend.
"Grace asked me to try out a recipe and got me those wooden salad servers as a gift."
"Of course, Grace. Who else?" Steve smirked.
"She's my daughter." Danny's hands flew threw the air in emphasis.
Still grinning broadly, Steve pulled a bottle from the box which he held out to Danny.
The other man shook his head. "Nah, there's still some in there." He held his beer bottle up for Steve to see.
"You're still on your first, Danno. Gotta catch up."
"One needs to be sober to drive this thing."
Steve raised his eyebrows and watched Danny. "And that's you?"
"Uh- huh. Of course. Who else? Boozy boy over there?" Danny asked and returned the incredulous look as he waved his arms in Steve's direction.
"Well, I enjoy my beer."
"Well, I enjoy my trip."
Both men giggled and lay back down. And as the boat gently swayed in the waves, the only sound a soft wind and the lapping of the sea against the side of the ship, Danny and Steve deeply and dozed off.
tbc...

I hope you enjoyed the start of my story and if you did, I'd love to hear from you. And if you didn't, that's a pity but if you have constructive criticism, I'd love to hear from you. :-) Anyways, I hope to see you soon again.
Until then!
