AN:
Thank you for reading, reviewing, alerting, favoriting my story. I'm happy you enjoy the ride.
I don't own Hawaii 5-0 and I'm not making any profit with this story. All mistakes are mine.
Summary:
Steve and Danny go on a fishing trip which goes horribly wrong leaving the two of them injured and shipwrecked. (Not much plot, rather whump, hurt and comfort.)
oooOOOooo
How they had ended up in the bobbing waves of the sea, Steve couldn't quite remember. The blow to his head must've been worse than he had thought. Had he hit his head?
"Yeah, you big klutz. You fell over like timber and hit your head on the floor of the boat."
I asked that out loud? Steve wondered.
"Yes, you did. How about you open your eyes? Then you might actually be with me here in this beautiful scenery on the sea", Danny encouraged.
Steve's lids fluttered before they opened to small slits. He blinked a few times before he met Danny's gaze that lasted on him. "Hi." Steve grinned daftly as he looked at the man beside him.
"Hi."
"Where are we?" Steve rolled his head. Just now, he realized that he lay in a supine position on a wooden plank. Every now and again, some water would roll over his legs or arms when a wave hit.
"In the Pacific Ocean in the middle of nowhere."
Steve pulled a face trying to piece together why.
Obviously, Danny noticed the question in Steve's expression as he began to throw in information for Steve to pick up, "Remember the fishing trip? The boat? The storm? The tear in the boat's floor? Us getting off the boat?"
"The boat sank", Steve interrupted disenchanted.
Danny bit his lip before he answered, "Yes. It dropped to the ocean ground like a stone."
"I remember", Steve said and after a short pause, he added, "Kind of."
Danny did his best to ignore Steve's last comment. "How are you?"
"Tired."
"Anything else?" Danny didn't dare ask about the pain. He didn't want Steve to remember it in case he had forgotten about it, it would be for the best to keep it that way. They didn't have anything to even dull the pain. Every medication was down there at the bottom of the sea.
"Dizzy, nauseous… I wanna go home", Steve moaned.
"Now you sound like a little boy."
"So? What's wrong with wanting to be home?"
Nothing, Steve, absolutely nothing. Trust me I wish I was home too.
"Hey, you always tell me I need to enjoy Hawaii's nature and beauty more and need to be more active. And now that we're actually doing that, you're complaining about wanting to be home", Danny said knowing he would keep Steve awake and talking for a little while. He was worried about his friend being in and out of consciousness and obviously he had some trouble remembering without being spurred on.
"We're ship wrecked, Daniel. That's not being active or enjoying Hawaii."
"It's not? Well, I enjoy the beauty of the ocean. Now that the storm has gone."
Steve didn't answer.
Danny pushed himself up in the water beside the wooden plank to get a glimpse at his friend's face. His eyes were closed, his face lax.
"Steve? Steve!" But the other man remained unconscious. Closing his eyes in defeat, Danny slipped back further down into the water and sighed deeply. "Shit!" He swore out loud.
He had hoped against hope that this time Steve would remain conscious for some time longer and actually remember more of what had happened. But just like the – how many times were it? – countless times before, he had passed out. Danny tried to reassure himself by telling himself that like the times before Steve would wake up again.
You have to! How am I supposed to explain any of this to Grace, that her Super-indestructible-SEAL-uncle Steve died in the ocean by all means and on my watch?
Nervously, Danny chewed on his lips while he held onto the plank and treaded water. He looked around but as all the numerous times before now all he could see were waves and water.
"You're in the water."
"Welcome back." Danny was relieved to hear Steve's voice no matter how weak it sounded.
"Where did I go?"
"Nowhere. You fainted on me."
"I don't faint."
"Oh yeah, you just did, buddy."
"You didn't answer my question."
"What question?"
"You're in the water."
"That's not a question. That's a statement. A question starts with an interrogative, for example what, who, how, and at the end of the question you raise your voice some."
"Why are you in the water, Daniel?"
"Because you're on the plank."
Steve's head rolled away from Danny as he searched his surroundings.
"The boat, it's gone, isn't it?" He asked without turning his head back.
"Yes, it sank."
"You made us get off."
Danny nodded as they both remembered.
tbc…
oooOOOooo
Thank you for sticking with me during their adventure.
Until next time.
