The strict commander falls for a human, though he doesn't know anything about love, add he's dating a human. The relationship is put to the test when Magnus goes on a mission on Valentine's day, returning late the next day.

Ultra Magnus never thought he'd fall for a human, or that a human would fall for him, being a strict commander. He loves (Y/N) but worries he's failing at what he's supposed to do in a relationship. He'd get advice from Fowler, June, the kids, Ratchet, and Optimus about how humans in relationships.
"Are you getting (Y/N) nice jewelry?" Miko asks as Magnus walks to the ground bridge.
"No, I have a solo mission," Magnus replies.
Miko can't tell if he's lying or not. She watches him walk through the ground bridge,
"He's not lying; he doesn't know," Ratchet confirms, "you know, trying to give him hints is only going to piss him off."
"Ugh, I should have told him specifically," Miko sulks and runs down the hall to find Bulkhead. Ratchet knows she will not give up so easily. He, on the other hand, will not bother. As far as he knows, (Y/N) doesn't care about Valentine's day.

Ratchet watches (Y/N) become sad as she watches Optimus and Magnus argue about going on a mission.
He doesn't know what today is. Ratchet dreads.
"Magnus, the mission can wait until tomorrow," Optimus argues.
"No, my mission is more important than (Y/N)!"
Scrap, she heard that. Ratchet frets as he watches (Y/N) run towards the tunnel entrance of the base.

(Y/N) didn't go far, she went to the base's roof, though it's a mountain rather than a roof. She heard peds getting closer to her but ignores them. If she yells at Magnus, all she'll get is a lecture about how it's disrespectful to yell at him.
I was a fool to fall for a bot like him. (Y/N) thinks as she cries.

(Y/N) sees Optimus' blue peds before he sits on the ground and picks her up. He puts her down on his other servo and makes sure she's looking at him.
"I should have known this would happen," (Y/N) sobs, "nobody loves me nor ever will. I don't know what I ever did to be treated this way. Optimus is very sad for her and explains how falling in love is new for Magnus. Unfortunately, he'd struggle had he'd fallen for a cybertronian.
"Magnus is trying real hard to learn human customs and really cares for you. He told me he's worried you'll think he's not doing enough. Sure, he screwed up today, but he's still learning."

After a while reader goes back to base with Optimus. She asks Ratchet if Magnus contacted him; he says no, but his life source is still online. He then tells Optimus and (Y/N) Fowler, the kids, and June all went to a valentines dance.
(Y/N) is sad she can't go. It's embarrassing to go to a Valentine's Day dance alone. Optimus is tempted to tell her he'll take her but also feels that's not right.

(Y/N) struggles to sleep, and she's up early the next day. Sitting at the ground bridge, waiting for Magnus to return. The others are concerned and uncertain if they should make her do something else, even as the hours go by.
"I don't think he's on a mission, but it's his way to say we're through, hoping I'll leave the base," She sulks and goes to her room. Optimus and Ratchet aren't sure what to do, aside from making sure (Y/N) doesn't leave.

Magnus returns an hour later and tells everyone about the mission before he realizes (Y/N) isn't around, and it's too early to go to bed.
"Where's (Y/N)?" He asks.
"In her room, crying, because you had to be an aft on valentine's day of all days!" Wheeljack rages
