To start their investigation, the three hunters decided to pay a visit to John Winchester's old partner at the garage they used to own together. Pretending to be cops re-opening unsolved cases like the 'Winchester disappearance', they interrogated the man about that night, 22 years ago. Alina did most of the questioning since she didn't want Dean to feel uncomfortable, and she just knew how pushy Sam could be about that case. At first, the man didn't have any useful information to give besides John being stubborn, loving Mary and his kids…there was nothing he could tell them about the night of the incident. Until…

"Oh, he wasn't thinking straight. He said something caused that fire and killed Mary."

"He ever said what did it?" Dean asked him, trying to keep a straight face.

"Nothing did it. It was an accident, an electrical short in the ceiling or walls or something. I begged him to get some help, but…."

"But what?"

"Oh, he just got worse and worse. I told him not to listen that friend of his…"

Alina already knew who he was talking about, but still had to confirm it. "What friend?"

"I can't remember his name but…he and his wife had a kid the same age as John and Mary's youngest one. The four of them were pretty damn close, and I think that's why he just let himself get manipulated by these two after Mary died."

Alina had to fight the urge to defend her parents from a stranger, claiming they had manipulated someone they cared about. She hid her fist behind her back and ignored the eyes of her worried friends next to her. "Why would you think that?"

"It's just…John came here one day, told me his friend introduced him to a palm reader in town and…he started reading these strange old books. Said this guy opened his eyes about the world and was gonna help him find out what happened to Mary."

The young woman couldn't believe these new informations about her dad. How could she not know about this? The boys noticed how troubled she looked and Dean decided to take the lead from that moment. "You mentioned a palm reader. Do you have a name?"

And since he didn't, the hunters' next stop was the nearest payphone where Sam started looking through a phonebook. Dean was standing next to the car with a confused Alina. He watched his friend biting her nails, trying desperately to remember any detail about what that garage owner had told them about her parents. "Hey, you okay?" He asked her, finally getting her attention as she stopped staring at the ground anxiously.

"What? Yeah, I just don't understand. I didn't even know my dad knew a palm reader here, so the fact that he could've been the one introducing yours to the hunting life…why didn't he tell me?"

"We were kids Alina. Grown ups don't tell everything to their kids."

"I know but something's wrong Dean. Ever since we arrived, when I try to think about my past it all just feels…incomplete."

Dean was about to comfort her, since he didn't want her to get another headache trying to force herself to remember too hard, but Sam interrupted their conversation when he found what he was looking for in the phonebook. "All right, so there are a few psychics and palm readers in town. There's someone named El Divino. There's…there's the Mysterious Mister Fortinsky. Uh, Missouri Moseley…"

"Wait wait, Missouri Moseley?" Dean stopped him. That name also sounded familiar to Alina but she just couldn't remember why. She noticed Dean going into the backseat of the car to pull out John's journal. "In dad's journal…here, look at this." He opened it to the first page and handed it to his brother. "First page, first sentence, read that."

Sam took the journal since he couldn't understand his brother's reaction, until he read the sentence out loud with a frown on his face. "I went to Missouri and I learned the truth."

Dean shrugged. "I always thought he meant the state."

Missouri Moseley…

Missouri…

Miss…

"Miss!" Alina shouted, managing to scare the brothers still focused on their discovery. They both turned to her, waiting for an explanation to her sudden outburst, but she simply smiled in excitement. "I was looking for a Miss, but it wasn't 'a Miss'! It was a name! It was Missouri!"

They still didn't know what to say, but she just kept going now that she was finally getting something from her past. It wasn't big, but it was enough for her to bring some pieces together. "I can't believe I forgot about Missouri! Of course my dad knew her, they were childhood friends! And my dad used to call her by that nickname he gave her, 'Miss'! That's why I said that when I was asleep, I also used to call her that when I was a kid!"

"Wait, so you knew her?" Dean tried to understand what she was saying, since she was actually talking to herself like it all made sense.

"Yeah! I mean…we came to see her a few times. I don't understand, how did I forget about her?"

Sam was also eager to know what she was talking about. It seemed like she knew more about this than them now. "Okay so you said you've dreamt about her? When?"

Right. She hadn't told them about that part of her two days sleep. She wasn't trying to hide it, she just didn't want them, or at least she didn't want Dean to become obsessed with that and try to find out what it meant for her. But now that she knew what it meant, she didn't have to keep it to herself anymore. "Well…when I talked to Elias while you guys were waiting in the car, he told me that he'd heard me say one word in my sleep. 'Miss'. Now I know I was talking about Missouri, so I think she might have some answers for me about my past. She might know what's going on with me, and what happened that night in your old house."

That was all Sam needed to know to walk back towards the car. "Okay, so I guess that's where we're going next. Let's go." He was already getting in the Impala with Alina, but Dean didn't move from his spot for a moment. He didn't like the idea of that Elias guy knowing something he didn't know. Why didn't Alina tell him about that 'Miss' thing? He was supposed to help her. Did she feel like he couldn't help her?

LATER

Missouri's house felt so familiar to Alina, and yet she didn't feel totally comfortable sitting in that couch, even with Dean and Sam by her side. She didn't know why, but it was as if her body recognized this place more than her mind. Her hands were shaking, and Dean quickly noticed it from the corner of his eye. He wanted to grab them and hold them firmly enough to stop the shaking, but Missouri walked out of the other room with a man at the same time, escorting him out of the house. "All right, there. Don't you worry 'bout a thing. Your wife is crazy about you." They watched the man thanking her before she closed the door behind him and turned to the three hunters sitting on her couch. "Whew. Poor bastard. His woman is cold-banging the gardener."

"Why didn't you tell him?" Dean asked her, surprised by her lie.

"People don't come here for the truth."

Alina smiled at the sentence she'd heard Missouri say so many times when she was a kid. "They come for good news." She finished, getting a smile from the woman who lifted her arms in her direction.

"Alina honey, come here let me see ya."

Alina stood up and walked to Missouri, stopping a few inches away to let her grab both her hands and watch her proudly. "Well your father always said you'd become a beautiful young woman. He wasn't wrong."

Alina smiled even more and hugged her father's old friend. She hadn't realized how much she'd missed her. "I'm sorry I didn't come sooner."

"Oh that's not your fault. You couldn't remember me before today."

The young hunter instantly took a step away from Missouri, curious to know what that meant. Did she know about her missing memories?

"Don't worry you'll get the answers you need. Your father wouldn't like that, but I told him it was a bad idea to hide everything from you."

The boys also stood up at that moment. "What do you mean?" Dean interrogated her with his big bad hunter voice. Alina chuckled, knowing how much Missouri hated it when people talked to her that way.

However, the psychic chose to ignore it this time and simply turned to the brothers, sighing when they just stared at her. "Well? Sam and Dean, come on already, I ain't got all day." And she left the room.

Dean and Sam exchanged a confused look before Alina also turned to them with a soft smirk and followed Missouri into the next room. Just like she did with Alina, Missouri waited for the boys to come closer to her. "Well, lemme look at ya. Oh, you boys grew up handsome." She laughed and pointed a finger at Dean. "And you were one goofy-looking kid, too."

Dean glared at her while Sam and Alina were both smiling at the woman's comment. But then she turned to Sam, and when she grabbed his hand a sad expression appeared on her face. "Sam. Oh, honey…I'm sorry about your girlfriend. And your father, he's missing?"

"How'd you know all that?"

"Well, you were just thinking it just now."

Of course the boys were shocked, but Alina already knew what Missouri was capable of. She just wanted to know what she had to tell her. What did her father hide from her?

"Well, where is he? Is he okay?" Dean was obviously eager to know the answer.

"I don't know."

"Don't know? Well, you're supposed to be a psychic, right?"

He was surprised to hear Alina scoff before Missouri gave him the irritated look his friend was expecting since the first time he'd opened his mouth. "Boy, you see me sawing some bony tramp in half? You think I'm a magician? I may be able to read thoughts and sense energies in a room, but I can't just pull facts out of thin air. Sit, please."

Dean went completely silent as his brother and his friend weren't even trying to hide their amusement. They all sat down, but again, Missouri snapped at Dean all of a sudden. "Boy, you put your foot on my coffee table, I'mma whack you with a spoon!"

"I didn't do anything."

"You were thinking about it." Alina scolded him, embarrassed by the way he was acting. "I told you to be respectful when we were in the car."

Dean gave her an offended look, Sam was still smiling next to them, and Missouri seemed to enjoy their little conversation.

"I am respectful. This is me being respectful."

Alina didn't hesitate to softly smack the back of his head for the way he was replying to her. And they stopped when they heard Missouri's laugh in front of them. "I always knew you two would make a cute couple."

"Couple?" They both repeated in chorus, startled by the word she'd chosen to describe them. "Oh we're not…"

"I know. I know…" Missouri reassured them with a lie, before sharing a knowing look with Sam. He was relieved that someone else could see it, but he also knew that making them uncomfortable wouldn't help their case, so he went back to the most important subject. One of the reasons they were here.

"Okay. So, our dad…when did you first meet him?"

"Alina's father brought him here a few days after the fire. I just told him what was really out there in the dark. I guess you could say…I drew back the curtains for him."

"But why you? Why not my parents?"

"They thought it'd be easier for their friend to hear the truth from an outside person. And it was a hard time for your mother too."

Alina's mom and Mary were best friends, so it was understandable. It was true that every time she had to talk about Mary, Alina could see the tears in her mom's eyes threatening to fall.

"What about the fire?" Dean continued. "Do you know about what killed our mom?"

"A little. Your daddy took me to your house. He was hoping I could sense the echoes, the fingerprints of this thing."

"And could you?"

"I…" She shook her head.

"What was it?"

"I don't know. Oh, but it was evil." She looked at Alina sadly. "Your father felt it too. He could never go back to that house after that day."

Her father could feel it too? So could that mean…

"Yes." Missouri answered before Alina could ask. "He was just like you."

That was a start, but it wasn't enough. "Okay and…what am I?"

"What kinda question is that? You're a psychic too honey!"

A psychic. It was both the most vague and logical explanation that Alina could've received. She didn't expect anything huge, but one word couldn't really help her. She preferred a more complete answer. She wanted to know why it was happening to her now. Why didn't her father tell her anything if he was like her?

"Oh he told you. When you were a kid, he told you all you had to know about Empaths."

"Empaths?" This word kept resonating in her mind now. She almost thought she heard her father's voice saying it, yet she was convinced that he'd never discussed the subject with her. "I thought I was a psychic."

"You are a psychic. But the more precise word for ya and your father, is Empath."

"Hold on." Dean finally decided to join the conversation. He wanted to help his friend, even if he was as lost as her right now. "What's an Empath?"

"Well…as an Empath, Alina can create a powerful connection with anyone. She'll be able to feel emotions that aren't hers, but also make people forget about their negative thoughts. Most of the time she'll only connect to humans or animals, but it can happen that spirits also feel this connection. They'll either be attracted or frightened, but don't you worry honey, ain't no spirit hurting you here."

"Why's that?" Alina's voice was shaking, and her friends hated to see her like that. She looked scared and helpless. She thought she'd be relieved to learn the truth about herself, but it was actually more terrifying to know that she really wasn't normal.

"Oh you're too powerful for them. As long as you stay focused on this world, they won't be able to reach you here. So no matter what you do, you stay close to these two, they're your strongest connection to this reality."

The brothers looked shocked, since they didn't think they had such an important weight on their shoulders. They wanted to protect Alina, but they never knew how much their existence was already helping their friend.

"And you boys!" The Winchesters jumped when Missouri angrily smacked the table with her hand and gave them a threatening glare. "You betta stop arguing around the poor girl! She's getting so many bad feelings between the two of you, I'm not even surprised she looks exhausted!"

They couldn't really understand what Missouri meant by that, and yet they instantly felt remorse. Then Sam thought about his recent disagreement with Dean and realized something. "Wait, so you mean her headache earlier was caused by Dean and I?"

Dean felt a knot forming in his throat when Missouri nodded. So they were the one responsible for her security, but they were also capable of harming her without even trying to.

"Alina?" Missouri noticed the way Alina was now staring into space, completely overwhelmed. Here it was, the proof that something was wrong with her. Dean and Sam turned to her when they heard Missouri calling her name, but she still didn't react. She was now thinking about her dad. He'd chosen to hide the truth from her. But most importantly…

"Why can't I remember? If my dad really told me about this when I was a kid, what happened to my memories?" She couldn't help but think about the dream she had when she was asleep for two days. Her father was apologizing to her. Alina raised her head and gave Missouri an apprehensive look. "What did he do to me?"

Missouri sighed. She didn't want to tell her about that day, but she also felt how desperate Alina was. Her father was afraid for his little girl, yet she was a grown woman now and she deserved to know the truth about her past. "Your father had a difficult childhood. He was constantly chased by the spirits that could feel his abilities, and he had to feel so many disturbing emotions that he almost lost his mind. I don't think he would've been the same if he hadn't met your mom. She was the connection he needed to fight everything else. She gave him a new life, and I was so happy for him."

Even though she was upset by all of this, Alina couldn't help but smile at the mention of her parents' relationship. They were perfect for each other, and they loved each other unconditionally. Alina had always idolized their love, but she never thought it could've been that strong.

"So when you started to attract spirits as a kid, your father was afraid that you'd have the same experience, and he wanted to protect ya."

And the anger was back. "So he lied to me. He…took my memories away?"

"He did it for your own good."

"I thought I was crazy!"

Missouri leaned over the table to take her hand and force Alina to look her in the eyes. "Nobody's crazy here Alina. What you're capable of is beautiful, and you'll help a lot of people in your life once you'll learn how to control your Empathy."

"But how can I do that if my dad erased it from me?"

"You can't erase this kinda power. Your father and I were able to seal it with your memories when you were five, but the seal got weaker, sooner than we expected because of what happened to your friend Chris."

Alina wasn't surprised to hear her talk about Chris, but she was still affected by the mention of his name.

"You need to forgive yourself Alina, or you'll definitely lose your mind over it. You're not like other people, when you love, it is the most beautiful and powerful gift you could give to someone. But when you hate, especially yourself, you could turn into something dangerous that no one would be able to stop. Right now you're still fighting that demon and if you don't forgive yourself, he's gonna win the battle."

Alina felt as if her whole world was being torn apart. She thought she was done with that demon after exorcising him, but Missouri was right, it'll never be over because he made sure she'd never forget about him. He was still in her head, and he was still trying to make her go insane. That was too much. She'd heard enough. So she quickly let go of Missouri's hand and got up. "I'm sorry…I'll be right back."

The brothers wanted to stop her, or at least follow her, but Missouri was faster to block them when Alina left the room and ran up the stairs where she remembered the bathroom was. The woman shook her head and gently pushed them back to the couch. "It's okay boys. You'll see her in a moment, we have things to talk about too."

Dean was frustrated that he had to watch his friend leave so upset, and couldn't comfort the her. "Didn't you just tell us to stay by her side?"

"Boy I know what I said! She went upstairs, not in a different state. She'll be fine so you sit down and tell me about what you found out."

Dean didn't want to sit down, but after a few seconds Sam grabbed his arm and forced him back on the couch with him. Missouri went back to her chair in front of them and got her soft voice back when she turned to the youngest one. "So…you think something is back in that house?"

"Definitely."

"I don't understand."

"What?"

"I haven't been back inside, but I've been keeping an eye on the place, and it's been quiet. No sudden deaths, no freak accidents. Why is it acting up now?"

"I don't know. But dad going missing and Jessica dying and now this house all happening at once…it just feels like something's starting."

"That's a comforting thought." Dean said, unable to think about anything else than Alina. He didn't even know how his brother could talk about their old house as if their friend hadn't just walked out of the room with tears in her eyes. He just wanted to see her…

But Alina couldn't go back right now. She was walking back and forth in the tiny bathroom, upset about what she felt like a betrayal, and the fact that she couldn't really hate her parents for it. They wanted to protect her, but they should've told her sooner. Missouri was right, if Dean and Sam hadn't been with her for the past few months, she couldn't imagine how wrong things could've went.

She also knew she had to forgive herself about Chris' death but it was easier to say than do.

A FEW MINUTES LATER

Alina wiped her wet cheeks in front of the mirror and took a deep breath. She'd finally calmed down, and wanted to forget about her own problems long enough to be able to help the brothers with the thing in their old house. She was supposed to be there for Dean, she couldn't be so selfish and lock herself in a room to cry like a kid. She still had no idea of how she was going to live her life normally, now that she knew about the risk of her abilities, but she had to try for the Winchesters.

She smiled at her own reflection to try and convince herself that she was fine, and unlocked the bathroom door. What she didn't expect, was to bump onto someone standing in front of that same door. Dean. He looked concerned and confused, and Alina wondered how long it'd been standing there silently, trying to decide whether or not he should knock on the door. That made her smile.

"Hey." She said.

"Hey. I just…I wanted to…"

"I know." She smiled when he quickly stared at her like he was trying to hide his own thoughts from her.

"Yeah. Of course you do. I mean, you're a psychic so..."

Alina rolled her eyes. She wasn't offended by that remark, but she did find it absurd. "I don't need to be a psychic to read your mind Winchester. You've always been predictable."

"No I'm not!" And as insulted as he was, he still felt relief when she laughed at him. And the way he was looking at her like it was the most beautiful sound he'd ever heard, just made Alina's heartbeats go faster for a short moment.

Why did he always have to look at her like that? If she didn't know him so well she could've thought he was actually feeling something else than just friendship for her, so it wasn't hard to understand all the women falling so easily under his spell. He was good at being charming, but she knew better than to let herself get unfazed by a pretty face. "Alright Winchester, as you can see I'm perfectly fine. So let's focus on our case. What did Missouri say about it?"

He didn't expect her to get back to that subject so quickly after everything she'd learned about herself, but clearly she didn't want to talk about anything else right now. "Actually, she wants to go check the house."

"Okay, so why are we still here? Let's go."

She started to walk away, but Dean called her before she reached the stairs. The girl turned to him, waiting silently for him to say what he had to say, but the genuine smile on her face was the best answer he could've got to let her leave without worrying about her too much. He knew once they'd be done with that thing in his old house, they'd be able to talk. For now she wanted to help him so much she probably couldn't even take a moment to think about herself. He admired that part of her, but felt like he didn't deserve it.

"You're doing the staring thing again." Alina complained, still waiting for him to talk after what felt like an eternity. "Stop doing that, you pervert." And she left, satisfied of the annoyed look she got from her friend who followed her once she was out of sight.

LATER

When they finally got to the house and Jenny opened the door for them, she was holding Ritchie in her arms, and her face looked pale. She was clearly frightened by something right before they'd arrived but she tried to hide it once she recognized the visitors. "Sam, Dean, Alina. What are you doing here?"

"Hey, Jenny." Sam greeted her, also noticing her troubled expression. "This is our friend, Missouri."

"If it's not too much trouble, we were hoping to show her the old house. You know, for old time's sake."

Alina didn't like the way she felt looking at that poor woman. She was terrified of something and she didn't even know what it was. Now that Missouri had told her about Empathy, it wasn't as scary as before but it was still concerning. If that was the way Jenny felt, they had to do something to help her and fast.

"You know, this isn't a good time. I'm kind of busy." The single mom replied, trying to chase them away nicely.

She was already starting to close the door when Dean insisted. "Listen, Jenny, it's important…"

Alina wanted to scold him for his roughness, but Missouri was faster to smack him on the back of the head, making him groan in pain and angrily glare at the woman as she was now standing in front of him. "Give the poor girl a break, can't you see she's upset?" She turned to Jenny. "Forgive this boy, he means well, he's just not the sharpest tool in the shed, but hear me out."

Dean was stunned by the psychic's words, and had to fight the urge to protest. Alina would've been laughing at him if she wasn't so busy trying to control her emotions.

"About what?"

"About this house."

"What are you talking about?"

"I think you know what I'm talking about. You think there's something in this house, something that wants to hurt your family. Am I mistaken?"

She was surprised by how right that stranger was about what she felt. "Who are you?"

"We're people who can help, who can stop this thing. But you're gonna have to trust us, just a little."

Jenny was unsure about this. She didn't know if she could actually trust those people she'd just met, until her eyes met Alina's. The hunter did her best to smile at her and nodded to show her that all she wanted was to help. And somehow, it worked. They entered the house after a few seconds, and let Jenny go back to the kitchen while they went upstairs to investigate Sari's bedroom.

"If there's a dark energy around here, this room should be the center of it." Missouri informed them, being the first to get inside.

"Why?"

"This used to be your nursery, Sam. This is where it all happened."

Alina was the last one to enter the room, but the moment she set a foot inside, she felt a wave of pain coursing through her body. Physical, but mostly emotional. She was almost suffocating in the doorway when Missouri ran to grab her by the arms. "It's okay honey. It's okay." The brothers felt bad the moment they turned to their friend, because they hadn't even noticed her struggling until Missouri went to her. "Remember, this ain't your pain, don't let it hurt you. Focus on good things only."

Alina still struggled to breath, until a hand came on her shoulder and she saw Sam's friendly face next to her. "It's okay Alina." The warmth coming out of her friend's hand, managed to overcome the fear and the suffering she was experiencing. She was finally able to take a deep breath, and let it all out with the help of her best friend. Missouri gave the boy a proud smile before walking away to let him handle the girl.

Once the psychic left to look around the room, Sam let go of Alina's shoulder to grab her hand and hold it tight. She closed her eyes, feeling her whole body relaxing. She'd never felt like this before but that room was really full of negative energy. All of this was so new to her, she was glad she had Sam with there to help her go through it.

Dean kept looking at his friend worryingly. Seeing the way his brother was able to calm her down reassured him a lot more than he'd expected. It was good to know that Sam could protect her from these new abilities, even when Dean couldn't be there for her. But even if he now knew what was wrong with his friend, it was still terrifying to see her reacting almost the same way she did with the Hook Man. He wished he could do something to stop her pain definitely, yet right now the only thing he could do was to stop that thing that was hurting her and the family downstairs. So he pulled out his EMF meter and started analyzing the room.

"That an EMF?" Missouri asked when she heard the noise coming from the device.

"Yeah."

"Amateur."

Once again, Dean glared at the woman who definitely wanted to get on his nerves, but forgot about it when he heard the EMF beeping frantically.

"I don't know if you boys should be disappointed or relieved, but this ain't the thing that took your mom."

"Wait, are you sure?" Sam insisted but all he got was a simple nod from the psychic. "How do you know?"

"It isn't the same energy I felt the last time I was here. It's something different."

"What is it?" Dean asked, still wanting to know what they were up against.

Missouri opened the closet. "Not it. Them. There's more than one spirit in this place."

"What are they doing here?"

"They're here because of what happened to your family. You see, all those years ago, real evil came to you. It walked this house. That kind of evil leaves wounds. And sometimes, wounds get infected."

"I don't understand." Sam was squeezing Alina's hand, but she didn't mind. She felt like she was helping him too, being by his side.

"This place is a magnet for paranormal energy. It's attracted a poltergeist. A nasty one. And it won't rest until Jenny and her babies are dead."

Alina finally knew why that room was affecting her so much. That thing sounded powerful and scary.

"You said there was more than one spirit." Sam added.

"There is. I just can't quite make out the second one." She went back inside the closet, but frowned at the confusing energy. Alina wished she could help her, but she wasn't even sure of what she was supposed to look for.

"Well, one thing's for damn sure." Dean said after a short time, back to his serious hunter mode. "Nobody's dying in this house ever again. So whatever is here, how do we stop it?"

It's currently 5am but I wanted to post a chapter so…hope you enjoyed it!

I'm gonna sleep now.

Have a nice day/NIGHT guys!
