Eventually the day of the Race came as Steven was putting the finishing touches on the Bean Can. giving everything a final look over. Everything seemed to be working, there was no signs a sabotage and the kart was in great condition. Jakk walked out of the cabin saying he finished designing their racing outfits, tossing the garb to Steven who looked it over.
"You've been watching movies again haven't you" Andy asked, exiting the cabin as he looked like he stepped out of a post-apocalyptic street gang as Raj looked at them, letting out a quick chuckle.
Jakk defended his choice, saying it was badass as Steven looked at the outfit. instructing them to watch his kart while he went in the cabin to change. Once Steven was in the cabin The Cocoa Beans were talking amongst themselves, discussing race tactics as Lumpus walked up to them.
"What are you scouts wearing, and what is this doohickey" The Moose asked, kicking the kart as he stubbed his foot, panting as he hopped around like a buffoon, calling for Slinkman who came rushing to bandage Lumpus' foot, seeing the Kart, asking what is S.M.I.T.S. name that thing was.
Andy introduced it as the Bean Can, the kart resembling a hotrod, and masterpiece kart built by Steven. Mentioning they were going to race it against some of the Squirrel Scouts in what was just a friendly contest. Edward walked up, asking anyone if they wanted to wager Beads on the race.
The Platypus mentioned that most of the money was on the Squirrels as Andy took a deep breath, removing the bead pouch from the uniform, tossing it to Edward, that confident in their skills.
Edward was seriously asking if Andy wanted to wager his whole pouch as he was wagering all of his beads. Andy simply nodded, as Jakk did the same. Tusk was hesitant to wager his beds, saying he was not a gambler. Eventually Steven left the cabin, his outfit adorned with black leather and metal spikes, his red hair done up into a fauxhawk, dusting off the biker cap he found, tossing it, which landed on Tusk's head as the boy clapped.
Eventually the boys made it to the Camp Kidney Entrance where Edward had set up a wager stand. word of the race had travels around as Bean Scouts and Squirrel Scouts had come to see the Cocoa Beans race the Flying Squirrels as Andy checked his watch, it was 11:45, giving the girls 25 minutes to get to the entrance or ease they would forfeit.
"I'd like to remind everyone, there are no refunds in the event of a no-show" Edward explained to the scouts who lined up to wager Beads and Acorns. there was money on this race.
Naturally the girls did show up, rolling in on their Speeder Mach 5. The Squirrels wearing uniforms made of some shiny skintight material as Andy could not help but chuckle, claiming the three looked like they just walked of the set of a sci-fi movie.
"Laugh all you want, this is state of the art, aerodynamic material built for wind resistance" Nina said pulling her hood up, covering her hair as she adjusted her goggles over her eyes. Gretchen and Patsy doing the same.
"At least we're not wearing garbage, look girls it's the Road Bore-iors" Patsy added, getting a look from Jakk who made the outfits.
Edward looked at the seven campers, mentioning they ALL looked ridiculous as Gretchen grumbled at him, telling the platypus to just start the race. The two teams got in their respective karts as Lazlo walked up to the two karts, carrying a flag.
The Monkey made it simple, the first Kart to Start from Camp Kidney, drive through Prickly Pines, around Whitehead Pass and make arrive at Acorn Flats wins the race and the privileges within, asking if anyone had any problems with the course.
The two lined up at the starting line. Edward saying that betting was closed. Lazlo held the flag up, waving to signal the beginning of the race. The two karts sped off, Lazlo breathing a cloud of dust, watching the two vehicles shoot by.
The race had started with both karts driving along the roadside. The two cars keeping up with each other. Andy looked over The Speeder, asking how The Squirrels were keeping up, which should be impossible in their battery-operated kart.
Steven simply shrugged, shifting gears as the girls pulled out alongside them, calling out, asking if they liked the modifications that Nina made to their kart. Steven gave a mild nod of respect to the girls as the karts made their way to Prickly Pines, tearing through the street. the two teams were more busy goading each other they were barely paying attention to the road.
"Patsy Look out" Andy called out from the passenger seat, as the Mongoose turned seeing a huge truck beaming forward, she swerved as the truck missed her, allowing her to catch up with the Bean Can. The Mongoose rubbed her head at how close that thing was to hitting her.
If Steven had not called it out, she and her cabinmates would probably have been road pizza, while she apricated the gesture she quickly shook the thought from her head. She had a race to win.
They made their way through the town the Girls taking a slight lead as Tusk looked at Steven, saying they had gotten the lead. the car pulled in front of them as Gretchen turned around, sticking her tongue out, blowing raspberries at them.
Upon leaving the Town the two karts came to Whitehead Pass, which was filled with twists and turns, being on the side of a mountain. Steven adjusted the shifter again, switching gears to handle a rockier terrain. easily overtaking the Squirrels as their kart was built for speed with racing tires and flat surfaces in mind, vibrating as it rumbled against the rocky pass.
The big and chunky tires on the bean Can allowed it to drive up with ease, overtaking the girls, pulling ahead as Gretchen turned to Nina, asking what gives and how the boys were making the trek so easily as Nina looked at her.
"I didn't know there would be a terrain change, you said you wanted the kart to be fast, I did not adjust it for off-roading" Nina admitted as the Beans had gotten a lead, reaching the point where they were driving down the hill. their huge block engine, roaring.
"Wow, talk about losing the lead" Tusk called out, as the rest of the ride should be smooth sailing. Steven eased on the gas. the car naturally rolling down the hill by its heavy weight. Steven looked at his teammates, explaining it was smooth sailing.
The Squirrels forgot to account for terrain change and winding roads, it was a classic blunder as the boys were going to win by a landslide. Andy resting his feet on the dash as Jakk was looking behind, tapping Andy's shoulder.
"Mate, you should really see this" Jakk called out as Andy looked, not believing his eyes. Gretchen was running up to them, carrying the Kart overhead and she ran along the rocky pass and was actually gaining. If Andy were drinking, he would have done a spit take. Jakk rubbed his eyes, admitting she was a strong girl.
Gretchen ran up, as she huffed, looking at the boys, letting them know they were going down as Andy looked to Steven asking him to floor it as the wolf did so, saying he would see the girls at the finish line. The Boys continued their drive as Steven saw an item whizz by him, hitting the road, splatting.
Seriously the Squirrels were chucking melons at them again. Andy realized as they were pulling up to Acorn Flats. Andy was super grateful that Steven attached a metal roof after the last time this happened. as Steven turned to Andy suggesting what they do.
Andy looked at the Wolf suggesting he just punch it, straight forward. their kart should hold until the finish as Steven nodded, flooring the gas. The Squirrels were gaining up. Gretchen back in the kart as it zoomed along the roads.
Back at Acorn flats watchtower Miss Mucus was overseeing the Melon Chucking as she gave the order to fire. The Gopher looked at the road. telling the warthog that the two cars were neck and neck, and they could hit the Flying Squirrels by accident.
"It's an acceptable risk, that cart is not pulling into this camp" Mucus ordered as Rachel against her better judgment fired the melon, hitting the Bean Can head on, splatting on the metal frame but the roof and windows prevents any actual contact as chunks of melon splattered across the dirt road. Gretchen seeing this laughed.
Andy turned to Steven asking his to keep distance from the Squirrels as Steven drove away, realizing the girls could use the Bean Can as a shield and that keeping close wasn't going to deter the Squirrels from firing melons.
The kart drove up to Acron flats as Andy pointed up a makeshift barricade which was just a picnic table blocking the entrance, guarded by Tree Squirrel Cabin as Tusk turned to Andy asking if that was allowed.
regardless Steven picked up speed, seeing the girls supporting the table. it was clear to the Wolf these girls wanted to play chicken as Steven speed up, aiming straight for the entrance, blocked by the table as the girls in Tree squirrel were looking at each other.
"Amber, it doesn't look like they're stopping" Toodie commented hearing the roar of the engine as they were in the Karts path. Almondine looking at the girls. the Cocoa beans would not hit them head on...would they.
The kart blared down the path as the girls were not going to take that risk, scattering at the Kart slammed right through the table, breaking it into shards. The Bean Can sustained some damage but drove into the camp. doing a doughnut before stopping at the Acorn Flats flagpole.
The Bean Scouts cheered, and the Squirrel Scouts were asking what happened as the Squirrel kart drove in, the entrance littered with scraps of wood. Steven was flooring the pedal, making the loud engine roar as Andy left the car, doing a pose.
"We Win" he replied as the girls got out of the Kart. Miss Mucus trying to fathom HOW they could have lost. they had melon launchers and a picnic table barricade. Yet those four ripped past the barricade like it was nothing. she threw her clipboard down on the ground storming off. Those four were becoming a real thorn in her side.
Back at the flagpole The Bean were cheering as Jakk, turned to Gretchen, calling out how she was literally carrying her team back at Whitehead Pass, praising the gator strength as Gretchen huffed. Andy walked over to Patsy, like at the Chili Contest, extending his hand.
"You and your cabin fought a tough race Smiles" Andy complimented, extending for a handshake. Patsy was on the fence about accepting the handshake. Lazlo smiled at Patsy, waving the flag around as the Mongoose did something no Squirrel Scout had ever done, she shook a Bean Scout's hand, earning a gasp form all the campers.
The girls in Flying Squirrel, actually did not know about the Melons or Barricade as that was Mucus doing whatever she could to keep the Cocoa Beans from winning, Patsy shook Andy's hand because the Cocoa Beans played fair.
