#19

AU stories for NCIS episodes. Each is independent from all the others since this is based on the possibility of parallel universes and multiple timelines…. many, many of them. Later on some may seem to follow something that happened in an earlier AU episode story but it's probably coincidence unless I say otherwise in the beginning. Again, these are AU scenes/stories which means a character may die in one story and be alive in the next one.

This is #19 - a short alternate universe story/scene for season 1, episode 19 - Dead Man Talking

The team was chasing Jack Curtain and Gibbs felt rushed as Pacci stopped him.

"How's the shoulder?" Pacci asked, sincerely wanting to know.

Gibbs replied, "It's getting there."

"You got a minute, Gibbs?"

"No, not really."

Pacci hesitated.

"What do you need?"

"You're busy. It's a cold case. What's one more day?"

He turned to go to his desk and something made Gibbs pursue the conversation.

"You got a fresh lead on a cold case?"

"Yeah, but you're busy. I'll tell you when you get free."

"I take a few minutes to get coffee. I can take a few for this, Tell me."

Amanda was living in the purchased townhouse. She'd put flower pots on the front porch so it looked like she wasn't going anywhere. Gibbs and Pacci would get to her after the escaped prisoner case.

Pacci worked with the team to recapture Jack Curtain and when that case was over, Gibbs and team helped Pacci. Tim McGee got all the equipment they needed and Gibbs and Pacci rented the apartment for surveillance.

They couldn't be sure if Amanda had made Pacci so he spent his time in the apartment while Gibbs' team rotated through. First shift was Gibbs and Pacci, then Gibbs, Pacci and Kate, etc.

When not on surveillance or sleeping, they did the research and legwork. They talked to the real estate person. They followed Amanda Reed and listened to her. Ducky checked out Voss' death and autopsy. The next day was trash day and she'd put her bags out the night before so they scooped in and took them, replacing them with bags that looked about the right size and weight.

In the end, Voss, the former dead man, was talking. According to Gibbs and Pacci, some idiot made a deal with him. He would tell the truth about everything and they would recover the rest of the money. For doing that he'd get his gender reassignment surgery and serve his time in a women's prison.
