Chapter 2: Life moves on

Eddard POV

He was restless. It had been two weeks past, yet he could not forget the nightmares. He saw that it was still early in the morning; the sun was barely up with the darkness still covering the castle. He silently got out of bed without waking his love, seeing the bags under her eyes when she spent her time in Sansa's bed. She needed the sleep especially since she was carrying another child of his. This news managed to brighten the atmosphere of the castle but, while he was happy about the news he was worried.

There were only a few times when he felt this tense before; during his friend's Robert rebellion and when Lyanna was "kidnapped" by Prince Rhaegar. It had been up to a week passed, but the image of his daughter bloodied remained a vivid image in his head. He had felt such terror when he found Lyanna in a bed of blood.

He breathed a sigh of relief, thinking back that this could have ended worst. What could have happened if he did not arrive on time? Shaking those thoughts away, he continued watching the sunrise.

"Ned", he turned around seeing his wife Catelyn out of bed into her nightgown, with the sheet covering her shoulders.

"Are you alright my love?" Catelyn asks worryingly. "No, just merely thinking about the children"

Catelyn nodded slightly, closing the distance by snuggling into his chest. As they held each other Ned started to think back about their past. Originally his brother Brandon was supposed to marry Catelyn but; when he rode south to find their sister he ended up paying the price, both him and his father. Ned never felt that he deserved Cat, as he always felt inadequate to Brandon. He was the "Quiet Wolf" while his Brother was the "Wild Wolf".

"Ned, it wasn't your fault you need to stop blaming yourself" "I'm sorry my love, but I think about how it could have been worse; what if Robb, Jon, Arya, or Bran was hurt instead?" He felt her tense up at the mention of Jon; she was never in support of Jon saying how he might usurp Robb's claim to Winterfell.

Removing from his arms, she stared into his grey eyes, "Ned, brooding won't change what's already happened, you just have to make do with what you have right now" a smile graced his lips as gave a quick kiss on her lips.

"Are you feeling well?" "Ned you need not be concerned over my condition, this isn't my first time carrying a child" "I'm aware Cat; I just want to make sure you are well".

His wife gave an exasperated sigh, removing herself from his arms and walking to their nightstand. "Ned, I understand you are still shaken about what happened to Sansa but, you can't just allow your fear to control you" I gave a nod and begin to get myself ready for the day.

Catelyn Stark POV

"So we have up to a thousand bushels of wheat left in storage?" "Yes, my lady". "How long will that last for us?" "I will say a few months" "See that we receive new shipments from White Harbor this week" "Yes, my lady"

The man gave a low bow and quickly exited the room. Feeling exhausted Catelyn sat down taking a deep breath. Things were just chaotic without Ned. He had left to discuss a certain issue with Lord Bolton; leaving her to run the entire workings of Winterfell. You know it was when she was younger when she envisioned being the lady of Winterfell to be grander especially when she was supposed to marry her Brandon. Unfortunately, the gods were cruel and when she heard the news of how Brandon strangled himself, she cried herself to bed for a few days.

She was still pushed to marry by her father to the younger brother Eddard Stark. She did not know what to make of the man on her wedding date; he was shorter and less handsome, being less rambunctious in a way quite plain. However, she was able to see he had a good sweet heart beneath his solemn face. They may have been missteps between themselves, but they were able to grow a relationship that she would never throw away.

Her hands went to her belly; despite knowing a child was growing in her, she could not feel the signs of it yet. A smile graced her lips, as she thought of her other children, especially Sansa... Cat swore every time she looked at Sansa, it was like looking at a younger self-image. She shuddered at the memory of when she saw Sansa's body limped, in her husband's arms. She had spent day and night by her bed making sure she was all right despite Maester Luwin and Ned telling her she would survive. As two weeks passed, she felt that there was more to this incident and it might come back to haunt her. As she looked out the window she could have sworn she heard a wolf howl.

Read and Review.
