Chapter 5: The Red Wolf Rises
Sansa POV
Sansa blinked slowly, the morning rays shining through the windows and the birds chirping were a sign of a new day. She sat up yawning, stretching her limbs, and getting out of her bed. It had been a few days since her talk with Arya, and they were able to get along with one another. They still had arguments and disagreements but they were able to find a common ground between the two of them. Sansa went over to her stand and grabbed her hairbrush, preparing herself for the day ahead. She decided to wear a red pastel dress, which complemented her red auburn hair. She smiled as she looked at her dress, this had been her favorite dress; given to her on her name day. Once she was ready, she headed her way to the Great hall to break her fast with her family.
As she arrived in the hall, she could see that her family had already arrived except for Arya. Bran was playing with his utensils making a mess of himself, Robb was talking to Jon about something and her mother was trying to clean up Bran's mess. Her father noticed her arrival and motioned to an empty seat next to Bran. She made her way to Bran, who promptly gave her the biggest smile he could muster. She giggled at his gesture and gave a warming smile back to him, grabbing a nearby napkin and wiping the corner of his mouth. "Bran we are here to eat the food, not play with it".
"Play" replied Bran as he continued his attempt in holding his utensils. "Sansa dear, have you seen Arya at all when coming here?" her father asked. "I have not seen her at all" "She's probably in her room, she's been spending a lot of time locked up in her room lately," Robb answered. "Sansa please, go and get your sister now," her mother said urgently. I nodded and got up from my seat, heading my way to my sister's quarters. As Sansa walked down the halls of Winterfell, she thought back on the memories of her siblings exploring the layout. Her mind drifted back to the painful memory down in the crypts. Sansa breathed a heavy sigh; despite over a fortnight ago it always was at the back of her head. She started to wonder if father did not come sooner as he did: could Robb, Jon, Bran, or Arya have been killed? She shook those thoughts away from her head, as she made her way to Arya's quarters.
As she arrived at her quarters, she knocked on the door "Arya, it's me Sansa". Her reply was met with silence; she cautiously opened the door to peek inside the room. She found the room empty, her bed messy as usual and a set of clothes misplaced on the table. Sansa wondered where she could have gone. She suspected she was practicing; but where could she go to practice? Sansa hurried along the hall picking up her gown not to get it messy, as she did she ran into Jeyne. "Sansa how are you this morning?" Sansa gave a bright smile back "Well enough, have you seen my sister my mother is looking for her". "Oh, I believe the guards said that she was seen near the courtyard" Sansa gave her thanks to Jeyne as she made her way to the courtyard. As she arrived in the courtyard, she frantically looked around the huge bustling crowd of people. Yet, she could not find Arya anywhere "Lady Sansa, are you looking for something?" Sansa turned to her left and saw Harwin approaching her. "I'm looking for my sister, have you seen her" Harwin rubbed his chin thoughtfully before answering, "I believe I saw her going into the godswood" "Thank you" Sansa answered while rushing into the godswood.
Sansa was always amazed by the godswood, the three acres of forest creating a dense canopy filled with many different trees; ash, chestnut, elm, hawthorn, ironwood, oak, sentinel, and soldier pine. Her eyes would then land on Arya by the weirwood heart tree, swinging the training sword. As she approached her, Arya noticed her presence and stopped her training. "What do you want?" "Mother wanted to know why you weren't at the hall to break your fast" Arya shrugged her shoulders "Practicing". "They're worried about you; you haven't been attending meals at times and skipping lessons. I can only come up with so many excuses for you, plus they are getting suspicious of your actions."
Arya gave a heavy sigh before turning to look at Sansa. "They can't know what I'm doing, they will forbid my actions. I'm doing this for the family, to make sure everyone is safe". Sansa placed her hand on her sister's shoulder "I understand but, at least gave our father and mother an ease of mind of what they think you're doing". Arya nodded absently at her sister's response before dusting off her breeches.
"Come on; let's get back before mother gets worried about us". As they started walking back, one of their father's men approached them. "Lady Sansa, Lady Arya" "I'm not a lady," replied Arya hotly; "Apologies, your father wishes to speak to you, Arya in his solar, I shall escort you there". Arya nodded following the guard, "Catch you later" Sansa shot a warming smile before making her way to her morning lessons hoping that Septa Mordane will accept her reasons for being late.
Later that evening
Sansa picked at her chicken with her fork, there was a strange feeling inside her. She felt her stomach was doing flips, a strange itching in her bones like being pricked by a bunch of needles and, she was feeling slightly warmer than the norm. "Sansa, are you alright, you look distracted" she turned to her mother who had a concerned look on her face. Sansa gave her warmest smile to save face, "I feel fine mother, just a slight headache" as she returned to her food. "Sansa, if you are unwell it's best if you visit Luwin to get yourself checked out" her father added. "I will see him in the morning if it continues to persist" Sansa bit into her chicken leg. "Maybe the fact that you're stuffing yourself with meat every night is the reason for your headache" Arya provided, with Robb and Jon sporting stupid grins on their faces at her comment.
"Oh your one to talk, always going on your adventures covered in the most outrageous messes I've seen, like a wild animal" Sansa replied jokingly, which was answered back with a spoon of mashed potatoes hitting her face from Arya. Then all hell broke loose as Arya threw food at Sansa, Jon tried to stop his younger sister, Robb helped to clean Sansa up and Bran just laughed at the antics that were happening. After a while, the situation was able to calm down with everyone returning to normal talk of the day.
Unbeknownst to everyone, nightfall came unnoticed as the full moon began to rise beyond the trees. Sansa felt an invasive heat creeping up from within her body; beads of sweat slightly crowning her head as she wiped her brow. She tried to ignore the feeling of returning to her lemon cakes however; the heat kept building, she tried taking a few breaths to calm herself. Unfortunately, it did not help; the heat was hazing her mind, as she tried to calm herself by leaning back on her chair.
"Sansa dear, are you alright you are breathing quite heavily" her mother replied worryingly. Everyone had stopped their meal and turned their attention, concern written on their faces. "Sansa, how are you sweating? It's not that hot in here" Arya replied while eyeing Sansa's condition.
"No no, I…" The heat was now ramping up and making her pant, her chest rising and falling; sweat beading on her shoulders and her body. Sansa tried fanning herself hoping that the airflow would help, realizing she was the center of attention.
"If you can keep fanning yourself you'll only get hotter and breathe shallower" Robb answered as he got up from his seat and made his way over to where his sister was sitting.
"I… can't…" Sansa gasped, as what felt like someone stabbed her in the gut, as her stomach clench spasmodically as she moaned softly, leaning forward and clutching her stomach. Her brother placed a reassuring hand on hers as he had a look of perplexed. "I think Sansa, the condition requires medical help, father" Jon interjected with a hint of urgency in his tone.
"Your assessment is well noted, Jon. Both you and Robb take Sansa to maester Luwin immediately," said her father urgently. Both Robb and Jon nodded, Jon quickly got up from his seat and went by Sansa's other side as they guided her out of the hall. "Wait, perhaps I should go with them" her mother interjected. "Cat, I am certain Robb and Jon will be fine on their own" he nodded to his sons, as they carried on out of the great hall.
As they were walking down the halls, the heat was increasing in its intensity. Sansa felt she was going through a moment, she was breathing heavily and her stomach did not help her as it gave her random bouts of pain every so often. "Robb… Jon… are we there yet" she managed to get out. "Just a few more meters, maester Luwin would know what to do, just relax you'll be alright" she peered at Jon's grey eyes filled with warmth and concern. "Jon's right, don't worry we're almost there, just hold on a bit longer" Robb answered back as another pain struck her again "Oohhh… it hurts…"
As they reached the maester Luwin's chambers, Sansa breathed a sigh of relief as it felt like a journey to get to their destination. Robb knocked loudly on the door but when there was no reply, he barged in to reveal an empty chamber. "Where is he?" "He must have gone somewhere, Jon stay with Sansa I will go look for maester Luwin" Robb sprinted down the hall while Jon set Sansa down on the maester's bed. Now the heat was at an all-time high, Sansa was feeling she was dying, the most disturbing noises were now emanating from within her, and she clutched desperately at her stomach hoping for a miracle that it would stop.
"Jon… go… get father" she managed to get out. Jon looked at her with shock "Sansa, you are in extreme pain, until Robb comes back I'm not leaving your side" he held one of her hands tightly. She gave him a pained smile as those deep blue eyes pleaded against him "Please Jon… just get father or… mother now!" Sansa managed to utter out almost sounding like a growl as she squirmed on the bed. Jon looked back at her, as he did not want to abandon her. He was second-guessing himself until getting up and nodding to her "Alright then, I promise you I will be back", he made a mad dash out the door.
Sansa begrudgingly got up, and closed the door to the chamber, locking it as well as she tried to take in the situation. She stumbled by a nearby dresser, leaning heavily on it for support, as her thick soft long auburn hair dangled down as she gasped and groaned. Some illness must have gotten her she thought, as the room grew more and more stifling hot by the moment. Her red dress was completely soaked, revealing more details than she thought necessary. She tried to take off the dress without ripping it, as she quite liked this gown, as this was a gift for her name day. The pain was getting to her, making her more frustrated with the fact that it felt like she was suffocating in her clothes.
"What is this?" she complained as she tried her best at taking the dress off herself. Groaning at her futile actions, Sansa couldn't take it anymore as she tore the gown in half letting it fall to the ground while removing her boots and unraveling her stockings. She kicked her clothes pooled around her ankles, now fully nude as she braced the dresser as if her life depended on it. The heat was at an all-time high, and with the stomach cramps ramping up in intensity, she looked out the nearby window catching a glimpse of the full moon. She pulled away from the dresser, fear gripping her as she thought back to that night when that monster attacked her, moonlight invading the room as her body prepared for what was to come even though her conscious did not.
"I need… help…" as she let out a low, prolonged moan, her stomach twisting, and clenching. The pain was too much for Sansa as she dropped to her knees, hugging her midsection, hoping the pain would just pass. Gasping for air, she could feel the cramps ramping up until a crack broke the silence. A pained cry escaped her mouth as she writhed on the floor, looking down at her body she looked in horror as it looked like fine red hairs were now sprouting on her body. "Oh god… this has to be a dream… yeah just a…" as crackles and pops resounded through the room as the small bones in her, hands began to break. Her knuckles suddenly crunched backward, as they reformatted themselves, to her horror her nails started to lengthen into black sharp files like claws.
More cracks started to resound as Sansa realized her spine was stretching, pressing against her skin as she cried out in pain. The end was especially painfully around her ass region, she hesitantly reached down to feel a nub of a tail sprouting out of her. Her thoughts were then interrupted as her feet cracked, reshaping themselves, growing sharp claws like her hands and new muscles started to form on her slender legs as they extended. Sansa was crying at this point, she could not believe that this was happening "Please… stop… hah… hah… this can't…" as another crack resonated in the room. Sansa looked at her own body; beads of perspiration rolled down her body as the entire bottom half of her body was entirely covered in dark red fur. Her hips bucked as they made the most awful noises yet, her petite lithe body jerked as she lost her curvaceous of her body.
"Father, Mother, Robb, Arya, Jon, ANYONE HELP ME!" Sansa shrieked as loud as she could, hoping someone would hear her prayers. She was on all fours, her breasts dangling with the fur creeping up to her chest when all of a sudden her chest convulsed uncontrollably. Her slender waist and stomach squelched, her ribs starting to press insistently against her skin. More squishes that were awful came as her chest pushed out forward, dark red fur covering her entire body.
Then her mind flashed an image; a beast with yellow piercing eyes with red highlights. Sansa realized she was turning into that monster. Her mind started to become clouded with thoughts of cold hunger. "NO, NO, NO" as Sansa shook her head "I'm not a monster, I'm Sansa Stark of Winter…" a scream of pain interrupting her, proving to be fruitless; as her mind was reworked into a craving for blood, rage, and prey.
Loud knocking interrupted her thoughts, as she lifted her head to the door "SANSA, open this door right now!" she heard her father shouted. "NO! Please just stay away" as the pain continued. "Get this door open, NOW!" she heard her father shouted, as what sounded like a hammer was pounding against the door.
Sansa was panicking, if the beast took over, once the door was broken down she would end up killing all those behind the door including her father. She felt the fur creeping up her face as her ears started to lengthen, hearing the outside noises and her vision was starting to alter to her surroundings. Her face contorted itself, reshaping itself as it pushed itself forward, horrifying cracks as her jaw wrenched itself. "AHHHH! AHHHHHHHH!" Sansa shrieked, again and again, unable to stop the pain, feeling her teeth sharpening into canines. She tried to hold on to her mind, but animal instincts were overtaking her, eyes losing their deep blue color for a yellow piercing look, feminine features disappearing as fur-lined her entire face.
Any trace of Sansa Stark was now gone, as the red wolf gave a mournful howl. The beast shook its head, taking in its surroundings and smelling the fresh air. Another bang shook the door as the beast turned its attention to the door. The door eventually gave way, as soon as the beast pounced on its unexpected victim.
Don't worry, this cliffhanger won't last long. The next chapter after this will be a short one and just continue where we left off.
