Dear Mum and Dad,

Thanks for your letter. It seems that you, Hermione, and Hagrid are the only people who believe I didn't enter the tournament. I was always unpopular with the Slytherins, and the Hufflepuffs think I'm stealing their glory. The Ravenclaws are on their side too. The Gryffindor's like it, but they're almost as bad, because they're convinced I did it on purpose.

Ron doesn't believe me either; he's convinced I purposefully entered. Hermione says he's jealous of all the attention I'm getting when he never gets any because of all his older brothers. Which is ridiculous, and he's welcome to it! Hermione's trying to force us to talk to one another, but I'm not going to talk to him when he clearly doesn't want to talk to me.

Today, we had the weighing of the wand ceremony, and unfortunately, a photo shoot. Rita Skeeter was there as well. She dragged me into a cupboard for an interview, but thankfully, Dumbledore baled me out before it could last long.

The first task is designed to test our daring and courage in the face of the unknown, so we have no idea what it is.

Love,

Harry

Dear Harry,

We're sorry about the rest of school, and especially about Ron. I think Hermione's right, but I don't think it will last for long. He'll come around.

And if he doesn't...

I'm more worried about Rita Skeeter. She can't write anything accurately.

It's a shame that you don't know what's coming in the first task. If you need any help, don't hesitate to ask. The key is to keep a cool head and don't panic; but considering all the crazy stuff you've done the past three years, I'm guessing you already know that.

All we can really say is good luck.

And be careful. Please.

We love you,

Mum and Dad

Dear Mum and Dad,

So much has happened since my last letter. I met Hagrid in Hogsmeade yesterday, and he told me to meet him at his cabin at midnight with the cloak. I went and followed him and Madame Maxime into the forest. Charlie Weasley was there along with a bunch of other wizards and four dragons. There's a Hungarian horntail, a common welsh green, a Swedish shortsnout, and a Chinese fireball; one for each champion. It looks like we're supposed to get past them.

As I was heading back to the common room in time to talk to Padfoot, I ran into Karkaroff. He knows about the dragons as well.

Padfoot told me about Karkaroff being a Death Eater, and how he got off. He thinks that's why Dumbledore brought Moody out of retirement; to keep an eye on him. He doesn't know if Karkaroff was the one to put my name in the Goblet of Fire, but he does think Voldemort is behind it. Bertha Jorkins would have known about the tournament, and she went missing right where Voldemort was last rumored to be.

We were interrupted before Padfoot could give me advice on how to deal with the dragon. But I've figured out a plan anyway. Hermione's helping me learn the summoning charm. Hopefully, I can summon my broom and use that to get past the dragon.

I also told Cedric Diggory what was coming. With Madame Maxime and Karkaroff knowing what's coming, he'd be the only champion not knowing.

Love,

Harry

Dear Harry,

Your plan is a good one! It's an excellent way to play to your strengths.

Good luck, Harry. Please, be careful.

Good luck. I'm sure you'll do well.

Love,

Mum and Dad

Dear Mum and Dad,

I did it! (blow by blow account of the first task)

This time, they gave us a clue through the golden egg we had to retrieve from the dragon. We have to figure out the clue in order to know what's coming in the next task.

Best of all, Ron and I made up! He realized I must not have put my name in the Goblet.

Love,

Harry

Dear Harry,

CONGRADULATIONS!

I KNEW YOU COULD DO IT! Well done!

I am so proud of you!

You did brilliant!

Just remember, there are still two tasks left. Don't get too comfortable.

Let us know when you figure out what the next task is.

Be careful,

Love,

Mum and Dad
