This is the last of the stories that I wrote a year ago using another Adrinette April year's prompt. I wrote this while being inspired by Adrienette April 2022, Day #21: Trapped
Alternate scene from 'Gorzilla'
Adrinette April 2023
Day #9: Accidental Date
Marinette ran down the stairs, duffle bag over her shoulder, and still in her pajamas—not that she noticed the latter.
As soon as she opened the door and took a step outside, something collided into her side and knocked her over. Whatever or whoever it was went down with her.
Groaning and rubbing her head, Marinette got to her knees.
"I am so sor—Marinette?"
The bluenette knew that voice, even before she turned her head. But when she did, she was no less shocked.
"A-A-Adrien?!" she exclaimed in disbelief.
There he was. The love of her life. Sitting on the sidewalk right by her.
"I'm so sorry. I wasn't looking where I was going and I was running pretty fast," he hastily apologized as he helped her up.
"Running? From who?" she asked. Was it an akuma? Or worse…Chloe?
"ADRIEN!" a crazed voice sounded from across the street.
They both turned their heads and saw a group of people—more like a mob—with a dark-haired boy whose outfit closely resembled Adrien's, and carrying a life-sized cut out of the model under his arm in the front.
"Them," Adrien told her, pointing to the crowd.
Right away, the fanboy and the rest of the mob spotted them and started making their way over to the bakery. Adrien's face became panicked and desperate.
Pushing her nervousness aside, Marinette reacted.
"Come on. Inside!" she exclaimed, drawing Adrien's attention back to her as she opened the door of her apartment.
Adrien quickly ran inside, followed by Marinette. Then she locked the door behind her just before any of the mob got too close.
Adrien sighed in relief. "Thanks for saving me. People are going crazy over this new ad," he said to her.
"You stared in a new perfume ad? I had no idea," Marinette said awkwardly before giggling nervously, though she wasn't sure why she felt the need to lie about that. It was perfectly normal if she'd seen it. It's not like he asked her if she's watched it over fifty times that morning. Now that was crazy. "That's awesome."
"I don't know about that. In fact, it's really quite…" Adrien looked down at his bluenette friend's attire. "embarrassing," he finished, a bit slower, realizing that she was indeed still in her pajamas.
Marinette looked down at herself really fast before crossing her arms over her front. "Geeze! I-I need to change," she said before starting to make her way up the stairs. Adrien followed her up.
The two didn't say anything as they ascended the stairs. Marinette tried to keep it together that Adrien not only just saw her in her pajamas but now he was coming into her house.
Marinette opened the door at the top of the stairs and let Adrien into the living room. The first thing they both did was go over to the window. Marinette pulled back the curtain and saw the growing mob right outside. When they saw her and Adrien together in the window, they all started cheering and raising their phones to take pictures. Adrien immediately closed the curtain and groaned.
Seeing all those people outside the bakery all at once was strange. Obviously, they were here for Adrien. Marinette took a moment to remember that her parents were out for the day so the bakery was closed for business and locked up tight so nobody could get in through there.
"Looks like they've got this place surrounded. Do you mind if I just hide out here for a while?" Adrien asked her.
Marinette's head quickly snapped back to him. "What?! Here?!" she exclaimed. "As in, here here? My house?" Adrien wanted to stay here? With her?!
"If that's okay. I know you were probably heading out somewhere."
"Oh, me? No," she dismissed. But the look he was giving her somehow compelled her to tell the truth. "Well, I was heading to the pool to go swimming—cause that's what you do at the pool—with Alya and the girls," she nervously explained.
Adrien raised an eye brow at her and grinned. "Really? The pool? Are you sure you weren't going to a slumber party?" he said cheekily, glancing at her attire again.
Marinette blushed, crossed her arms and looked away for a moment. "I was in a rush and forgot to change," she replied. Strange. That almost felt like she was talking to Chat Noir for a second. "Anyway, it doesn't matter. If you need a place to hide, then consider this your sanctuary," she told him, gesturing out all around her.
"Are you sure? I don't want to be a bother," Adrien said humbling which only made Marinette love him more.
"Nonsense," Marinette said happily, waving his comment off. "You can stay here forever," she said, only for her face to fall a second later when she realized what she had just said. "I mean! Stay as long as you need," she quickly reiterated before flashing him a nervous smiled. "Uh. Just…make yourself comfortable, I'm gonna go change." And with that, Marinette ran up to her loft and closed her trapdoor behind her.
In the security of her bedroom, Marinette had a bit of a meltdown.
On the one hand, she was happy that Adrien was in her house and they could hang out. But on the other, she was scared of screwing up and embarrassing herself. Well, more embarrassing than him seeing her in her pajamas.
After quickly changing into her regular clothes, Marinette went back downstairs, trying to keep her composure. She saw Adrien seated on the end of the couch that went against the opposite wall. He looked up at her and smiled but said nothing as she came over and sat on the other end.
The two sat in silence for a minute. Marinette racked her brain for something to say.
"So…what do you wanna do?" she finally asked. If they were stuck inside her apartment for who-knows-how-long, they might as well do something. Adrien was a guest, she had to keep him entertained.
"How about a few rounds of Ultimate Mecha Strike? I never really got to play against you. Although, you'd probably wipe the floor with me," Adrien suggested with a bit of a giggle at the end. He knew how good Marinette was at that game. She had beaten Max almost effortlessly and she had done most of the work when they were training together for the tournament.
Marinette giggled with him. "Uh, okay. Ultimate Mecha Strike it is." Marinette pulled out the controllers from under the TV, handed one to Adrien, and started up the game.
Just like he had predicted, Marinette beat him to a pulp. Seven rounds in a row.
Adrien was a gracious loser, but Marinette finally decided to have mercy on him and suggested a movie. Adrien agreed eagerly. While she went into the kitchen to make popcorn, she let Adrien browse through their dvds to pick something.
He found that they had a lot of good movies; some he'd seen already and some he hadn't but wanted to. Sadly, Solitude was not among them.
But truthfully, Adrien wasn't disappointed.
Sure, he wasn't happy about missing his mother's movie in the theater, but it wasn't the end of the world. There was still a dvd copy somewhere at home. He hadn't wanted to ask his father to watch it but now, maybe he could. No doubt he knew by now that he had left the house without permission, and has already seen him on social media trapped in an apartment above a bakery with a classmate surrounded by crazy fans. He might send his bodyguard to come get him soon. He could get him through the mob outside and into his car then bring him home. Then hopefully he could explain himself to his father about wanting to see the movie, then maybe he'd let him watch the dvd at home.
It was mostly wishful thinking, but it was realistic enough.
But until then, he was stuck in there with Marinette, so he might as well make the best of things. Besides, he usually never got to do fun things at his friend's houses. Despite the unexpected alternation of his plans, this was still a fun way to spend his day out of the mansion.
By the time Marinette came back to the couch with a big bowl of buttery popcorn, Adrien had selected a movie. Something good that he'd seen before but only once a long time ago. He settled back into the couch with Marinette, sitting right next to her, facing the screen.
Marinette's composure was working overtime to not let her completely lose it when Adrien sat so close to her.
It almost felt like this was a date.
But in her mind, she knew it wasn't. And that was okay.
Adrien needed a place to get away from his crazy fans. She was sort of a crazy fan too, but she still remembered to treat him as a real person. He was her friend. And as his friend, she would help him however she could. Even if that meant trapping herself in her own apartment with him to help him escape crazier fans and just be his companionship.
Alya and the other girls of course knew what was going on. They saw the postings. It was all over social media that Adrien Agreste was hiding out from fans inside the Dupain-Cheng's bakery, along with the owner's daughter, Marinette.
They were so happy for her, they didn't even care that she was late—and probably not coming at all now—or that she didn't even call to tell them. None of them tried to call or text her either. They'd get all the details from her later or tomorrow.
They didn't want to interrupt her 'date' with Adrien.
Calling all fans; WHERE IS THE MARICHAT MAY 2023 CALENDER?!
It's been over a week into April and I still can't find it anywhere (last month, the Adrinette April list was up by the 3rd). Without it, I can't write my week's worth of Marichat stories here. Now I've lost at least a week's worth of time I could have used to work on them, so I'm kind of stressing about not having enough time to brainstorm, write, and proof-read.
Anyways, next story is the 11th, see u then ;D
And Happy Easter!
