Still do not own Harry Potter.
Dear Mum and Dad,
Something very strange happened last night. As you know, it's the 24th and the champions were brought onto the quidditch pitch to be told what the third task is. It's a maze. The pitch is covered with rows of low hedges which will be really tall by next month. We need to get to the Triwizard Cup in the center of the maze; the first one there wins. There will, of course, be obstacles. Hagrid apparently will be helping with them.
But this was not the strange thing that happened. After the champions were told, Viktor Krum took me to in front of the forest to talk to me without being overheard. He wanted to know what there was between me and Hermione, which of course was nothing. But as we were talking, I noticed something in the trees. It was Mr. Crouch.
He stumbled out of the trees babbling instructions to Percy. Then, he snapped out of it and insisted that he needed to see Dumbledore, that he had done something, he had to warn Dumbledore. Then he reverted back to talking to Percy and went on as if his wife and son were still alive. Then he talked as if he was sane again. He said that Bertha was dead, that it was his fault, talked about his son and that was also his fault. He said something about the dark lord being stronger. He insisted that he needed to see Dumbledore.
I ran to Dumbledore's office, but it wouldn't open. I met Snape there, and he was no help. If he had just gotten out of the way, it might not have happened. Luckily, Dumbledore came out of his office, and we headed toward the forest. When we got there, Krum was stunned, and Crouch was nowhere to be seen.
Dumbledore sent Moody, who had met Snape and followed us, to search the forest, and sent Hagrid to get Karkaroff. Karkaroff accused Dumbledore of treachery, which Hagrid didn't like. Krum didn't see who stunned him. Then Dumbledore told Hagrid to take me back to school and told me not to send any owls until morning. Hagrid was especially angry, telling me that I should not have wandered around with Krum.
We have no idea what happened. Crouch couldn't have vanished, even if he did stun Krum. And Krum couldn't have done anything when he was the one stunned. There had to have been a third party who killed or kidnapped Crouch.
What do you think?
Love,
Harry
Harry,
What in the world were you doing wandering around in the woods at night?! You know someone is trying to hurt you; you could have been killed!
You would think that with all the things that have happened in the forest you would know not to go near there when you're supposed to be being careful! Don't do it again!
Still, it was definitely foul play.
Yeah, first he's not coming to work and now he wanders into the forbidden forest insisting to see Dumbledore.
That's the question. What happened between the time he was last seen and now that he thinks Voldemort is getting stronger?
There must be an operative at Hogwarts. Whoever it is put your name in the goblet, also did something to Crouch so he couldn't see Dumbledore. We can't rule out kidnapping, but I don't think that's likely.
There's no way to know for sure. Let's hope Moody and Dumbledore can figure it out. In the meantime, do NOT go wandering around after dark again.
On the plus side, this task will probably be difficult, but at least you'll be prepared. You've got a whole month to practice. Good luck, and please, be careful.
Love,
Dad and Mum
Dear Mum and Dad,
My scar hurt again in divination today. I went straight to Dumbledore's office, like you guys and Snuffles told me to do. He was in a meeting with the minister and Moody. They went to examine the grounds, and Dumbledore told me to stay in the office. There was a cabinet from which came a silvery light. There was a shallow basin in it filled with some kind of substance like liquid light. I touched it with my wand, and it started to show a scene. I bent over the basin to try and see what it was and when my nose touched the substance, I was tipped right into the basin. I hate to compare it, but it was kind of like Riddle's diary.
I landed in a courtroom right next to Professor Dumbledore. I was in a memory. The person being tried was Karkaroff. He was a convicted death eater and offered names of other death eaters in exchange for clemency. Moody was there too. He didn't approve of the deal. His first several names were no good. Then he mentioned Rookwood; a spy inside the ministry that they knew nothing about.
The last name was Severus Snape. Dumbledore testified that Snape was a death eater at one time but turned spy for our side before the end of the war. Did you guys already know that, since you fought against Voldemort?
The next scene was Ludo Bagman. He, apparently, had been caught passing information to Rookwood, but he was let off.
The last was four people convicted for the torture of the Longbottoms. Bellatrix LaStrange, her husband and brother-in-law, and Barty Crouch Jr. Mrs. Crouch was there, sobbing, and Barty Jr. kept insisting that he didn't do it. Nevertheless, they were all convicted. The real Dumbledore arrived then and pulled me out.
He explained that the basin was a Pensieve and that it showed memories. Then I told him about my scar hurting, and something else too. When my scar started hurting, I had a dream. Voldemort received a letter telling him that someone was dead. He tortured Wormtail, but because his 'blunder' had been fixed he wouldn't be fed to the snake. He'd be feeding me to it instead. Then I woke up with my scar hurting.
When it hurt me this summer, I also had a dream. That one was about Wormtail and Voldemort talking about how best to kill me before murdering a muggle who had overheard them. I didn't actually see Voldemort in either dream. I didn't tell you because I didn't want to worry, but Dumbledore thought I should tell you anyway.
He has a theory that my scar hurts me whenever Voldemort is near me or feeling a particularly strong surge of hatred. He thinks it's possible that my dreams are really happening.
Don't worry about me. I'm still being careful.
Love,
Harry
Dear Harry,
You know you can tell us anything even if it would worry us. I'm glad you went to Dumbledore about this. At least now we have an idea of why your scar hurts sometimes.
So, Dumbledore thinks Voldemort is getting stronger again as well? I can't say I'm surprised. There have been a lot of funny things going on this year.
We did know that Professor Snape was a spy for our side, although not many people did. It's not something that can be talked about much, so if Voldemort ever returns, he'll be able to get back into the role.
That's probably why Karkaroff is talking to him. Like we said back at the Quidditch World Cup, his followers will be even more scared for Voldemort to come back than the rest of the world. I still don't know why he showed Snape something on his arm, though.
Be careful, Harry, and good luck with the third task.
Love,
Mum and Dad
