Marichat May 2023

Day #26: Stargazing

Just like the last time he had brought her there—even if it hadn't been planned for her initially—Chat touched down on the roof close by to the Dupain-Cheng bakery with Marinette in his arms. Marinette had her arms wrapped around him with her eyes closed.

When he put her down, Chat told her to open them.

Marinette's bluebell eyes opened to see the same beautiful setting with roses, rose petals, candles, as well as pillows.

"It's even prettier than the last time," she said in awe. It was almost exactly the same but it was still just as special.

"That's because I prepared it just for you," Chat said coming back over to her with two folded blankets in his arms. He offered one to Marinette, which she took, then unfolded it, laid in down on the flat roof, and sat down. "Oh, those aren't for sitting, princess. They're for laying down," he told her, kneeling down to talk to her.

"Laying down?" she asked with a raised brow. Was this supposed to be a sleepover or something?

Chat just smiled at her. There was a reason that he had decided to set this all up for tonight of all nights. "Of course. You might not have heard but there's a meteor shower tonight."

Marinette gasped a bit in excitement. She hadn't known that, in fact. "Really?" she squeaked.

Chat nodded. "So we're gonna lay here comfortably, and watch it together," he said to her.

Marinette got up and readjusted her blanket as Chat laid his own down next to hers. They weren't side by side exactly. They were parallel to each other, horizontally, but they were pulled in opposite directions just enough so that when they both laid down, just their heads were right next to each other.

And if either of them turned their heads, it was like looking at the other upside down.

It took almost an hour before they saw the first falling star. They passed the time with loving chit-chat while staring up at the sky, but as soon as Marinette saw the first light zoom by then disappear across the sky, she went quiet, waiting for the next one. Chat fell silent as well, also eager to see the next one.

"When you see another one, are you gonna make a wish?" she asked him after a few minutes of nothing else happening.

Chat hummed in thought for a moment, even though he already knew the answer. "What would I wish for? I've got everything I could even want right here," he said as cheesy as possible, but he still meant every word.

Out of the corner of her eye, Marinette could see that Chat had turned his head and was looking at her. So she turned her own and they stared at each other face to face—just upside down. Chat reached over with his opposite hand and caressed the side of her face as they gazed at each other.

For the moment, the only stars he was gazing at were in her eyes.

"What about the defeat of Monarch?" she asked out of nowhere, breaking the spell.

Chat retracted his hand. He didn't want to admit it but he hadn't thought of that. "Oh, right. That'd be a good wish," he replied. She had a very good point. But other than that, he believed his earlier sentiment still stood.

As Adrien, he could have (almost) everything he even asked for. But this. He'd trade all of that everything for this alone.

Laying next to Marinette under the peaceful night sky, what more could he ever want?

And this officially concludes Marichat May 2023 for me. Sad to see it end. But I've still got 2 more prompt months to go.

See u all again in Ladrien June ;D
