Meet Luis Gutierrez, he has light tan skin and black spiky hair. Luis wears square rimmed glasses, he also wears blue jeans with an open black collared shirt with a grey T-shirt. Remember that now.

Luis lives in Burbank at an apartment complex called The Sinkhole. It's called that because the foundation is lower than the other buildings in the neighborhood. Here everyone knows each other. Luis knows them and they know him.

Here he was sitting in his apartment, typing away at his computer. He felt giddy, after seven and a half months he was nearly done.

"He looked on in the distance," he said typing. "Knowing he was not the only one. The end."

Luis pressed the print button on the keyboard and watched as pages started flowing out the printer. He sighs with relief in his breath. You see, Luis was getting closer to his dream: to become a movie director.

Most people wanted to be actors but not Luis. It all started when he went to watch Back to the future when he was 8 years old. It was the first movie he ever watched, one he'll never forget. Everything about it was perfect. The cast, the script, the cinematography and music. (Words he didn't know at the time, but learned later.)

One time he asked his teacher, "who makes the movies?"

"A film director." He answered.

"What's that?" Luis asked curiously.

"A film director controls a film's artistic and dramatic aspects and visualizes the screenplay (or script) while guiding the film crew and actors in the fulfilment of that vision."

He couldn't believe it. That's what they do? That is who was able to create the greatest movie he ever saw?

Luis was amazed when he learned this and wanted to become a director. He even started coming up with ideas and making his own mini movie shorts with his video camera.

As the years went by, he eventually went to college where he earned both a bachelor's and master's degree in cinema studies. He was almost there. now all he needed was a screenplay,

And it just finished printing.

Luis grabs and staples the pages together. This was his masterpiece, the one thing that could launch his career and change his life forever. The next step was to bring it to all the big movie studios. Luckily he lives in Burbank, the media capital of the world. So all he had to do was deliver it to the post office.

He looked at the clock as his body tensed up. It's 5:45 PM, and the post office closes in fifteen minutes, and the place is in uptown Burbank.

Luis stuffed his backpack with the screenplay and résumés, grabbed his keys and ran out the door.

The Sinkhole is a lively place. It was an Orange brick building that had a pool and basketball court in the middle. The neighbors were often seen outside, chatting away or swimming in the pool and sometimes cooking. One thing they knew was Luis's dream. His neighbor Alison particularly knew something was up; she was watering her plants when he ran and tripped out of his door.

"Is today the day?" She asked.

"Today is the day!" He sang. "I need to hurry to mail it!" He quickly got up, then zoomed down the stairs. Where he ran into other people who overheard the conversation.

"Good luck!" Yelled someone.

"Run Luis Run!" Another said.

"Better hope your car starts!"

That person wasn't wrong. Luis owns a 1974 black camaro with blue racing stripes. It had been through some years. The paint was faded and rusted. It had problems now and then but Luis didn't care as it was special to him. He got in the car and turned the key.

*VROOM VROOOOM!*

Luis grips the wheel and hits the gas pedal then…..

*POP! HISSSSSS!*

The car began billowing black smoke. Luis gets out and kicks the car in frustration. He had no choice but to run now.

"This is what high school track was for!" He said panting as he raced down the street, but to his dismay, cars were blocking his way. It was rush hour and the cars were backed up by a mile.

Luis looked at his watch. It was 5:52pm. He was determined to make it. He began to jump on the cars, hop from one to another.

"I'm so sorry!" He yelled as people cursed him out, with each jump to a different car, he left a dent on their roofs. "I have no regrets!"

He was back on the ground and continued his journey. There was still a way to go. Afraid he wasn't going to make it, then he passed by a sports shop.

An idea came to mind.

Next thing you know, he was on skateboard, racing past everyone.

"Look out!" He yelled. "I gotta make it! I'm gonna make it!"

He saw a building that had a clock on it. It was 5:56pm.

"I have to make it!" He said pushing the board faster. However the road in front of him was under construction. Luis did not want to slow down. Luckily he sees the ramp that they use to unload the vehicles. They saw him and tried to get him to stop but he didn't listen.

Nothing was gonna stop him. He worked too hard to stop now. He wanted his dream to become reality.

He goes and flys off the ramp, soaring through the air.

"I can't believe I just did that!" He thought excitedly.

For a brief moment he could almost see all of Burbank. The city's movie studios were in his view. L.A castle studio, Universal, Disney and Warner bros. Soon, he'll be hired by one of those studios and a famous director like Robert Zemeckis, George Lucas And Stephen Spielberg to create movies that the world can enjoy just like he did.

He takes a deep breath feeling happy until he came back to earth, literally.

He landed on a road which was going downhill, Causing him to go faster.

Up ahead was the post office. Luis grins.

"I'm going to make-AAAHHHH!" He screamed as he sped through the busy intersection. Nearly getting hit by the cars. He pushes down on the back of the board to slow down.

That's not how a skateboard stops, but this was his first time on it.

He would've got a bike instead, but that would've made this chapter less interesting.

Because of the high speed the board began to catch fire. Luis tried to put it out with his foot. Unaware of the curb he's about to hit.

However, The manager of the post office was done for the day. She walked to the front door ready to flip the sign from open to close.

When Luis came flying at him flailing his arms and legs. The manager dived out of the way as the doors swung open with Luis crashing into the ground.

"I would like to send this first class." He moans in pain.

The manager's jaw dropped. She only had one thing to say.

"Cash or Card?"

Luis felt proud. He was excited. The dream was gonna come true. He had little skip in his step. He was in a happy mood and he wanted to celebrate.

By the time he got back to The Sinkhole, he had a party hat with "soda drinks" and meat to cook on a grill.

"Who wants to party!? He shouted holding up the drinks, Only to be greeted with silence. No one was outside anymore. One of the neighbors came out. It was Daniel who was in his sleepwear.

"Everyone is asleep, man." Daniel said. Luis was saddened by this and lowered his hands. "I'm sure you'll find others to celebrate with."

"Uh yeah, no problem." Luis said quietly. Daniel went back into his apartment. Luis decided to go back to his home too. He got to the door and unlocked it. Like always, his apartment was filled with silence.

He decided to make dinner. Once he was done he felt proud at the meal he made. It was a Steak with mash potatoes and veggies,

For one.

Luis sat on the couch, turned on the television and ate his meal. It would've been nice to celebrate today with someone. But why does that matter?

"The only thing that matters is I did it." He thought to himself.

For the rest of the night he stayed in the living room eating his meal in silence.

—-

A few days passed by and he heard nothing from the production companies.

He waited by the phone hoping to get the call. It did ring, he answers.

"We've trying to reach you about your car's extended warrant-"

He slams the phone down.

"They're gonna call." Trying to keep his hopes up.

—-

The days turned into weeks. He would constantly check the mail, where he hoped to receive a letter. The neighbors would see him sit out there and wait.

At this point Luis hopes they've at least read his resume.

It started to turn into months and he decided he would call them. Soon he started sending more letters of his screenplay along with more of his resumes, while leaving voicemails.

He had started to become desperate.

It was late june and had been 10 months since Luis sent in the screenplay. The neighbors noticed he drastically changed. Usually he is outside chatting away happily. He is always working on his car or he is cooking on his grill out the door.

Lately he would just stay inside. Waiting by the phone expecting the call. When people walked past him all they was a look of gloom

Then the phone rings. He answers.

"Hello, is this Luis Gutierrez?" She asked.

"Y-Yes?" He began to shake nervously.

"Hi this is the office of Universal studios. Our CEO would like to speak with you. Could you make it tomorrow around noon?"

"Uh y-yes!" He stuttered. "I'll be there."

Luis puts down the phone, having no visible reaction. He began shouting and jumping for joy. It finally happened. He had to get ready, he needed to look his best.

For the first time in in almost a year, he was going to sleep happily. As Luis laid thinking about his future ahead of him. It was finally about to start.

And nothing was gonna change that.

The sun began rising over Burbank. The alarm rang and he quickly slammed it off. today is now officially the day.

So why wasn't he happy like the night before? He didn't really understand. Was it a bad dream he had? Did he feel sick? No, he just felt nothing.

Luis has waited so long and now finally someone reached him.

But it's hard to get excited when it took so long. in fact he was nervous now.

He combed his hair, chewed a mint and got dressed. Then he was out the door, Luis would've driven to the appointment but his car was acting up again. So he walks.

But it was a good thing, he needed to get his mind out of his funk. To get there he needed to walk through the food district that was just down the street.

He loved walking through here. He could smell all kinds of meals and desserts. The smells give him a sense of joy. But it's hard to appreciate it when you hear yelling.

Luis tried to ignore it and focus,

until it got louder and fell on top of him.

Sorry this chapter took forever. It was hard to write. I wanted to explain Luis' character without revealing too much until later in the story. That's also why There was rarely any talking in this chapter. I tried my best. Chapter 3 will be out way faster this. Please leave a review! No hate, just helpful criticism.
