Chapter 3 – Defenders For Hire
East Broadway, Chinatown – Manhattan, New York
East Broadway Street in Manhattan's Chinatown was a complete warzone. The civilians, residents of Manhattan's Chinatown, scrambled in random directions, to escape the chaos. A 20-something Asian woman, white catsuit, reddish brunette hair, stood in the middle of East Broadway, directing the panicked civilians to safety.
The woman was known as Colleen Wing, a well-known private investigator who operated in Manhattan.
"Get to the East Broadway Mall, you'll be safe there!" Colleen urged.
The Gemna soldiers pursued the random civilians, wounding and/or killing anybody they could catch.
A group of civilians took refuge in a nearby bus parked to the side. A group of Genma soldiers attacked the bus, trying to get inside to kill everyone inside.
"Leave them alone, you freaks!" Colleen demanded as she charged at the Gemna who were attacking the bus full of trapped civilians.
"I got them!" yelled a young-looking Asian man, eary 20s, dressed in a sleeveless Taekwondo dobok. He had semi-long hair and wore a bandana over his head. The man was missing his right leg but was replaced by a metal prosthetic.
"No rockets, you'll accidentally hit the bus and kill everyone inside." Colleen warned.
The Asian man nodded as he sprinted in the direction of the Genma soldiers, who were undead swordsmen who died in Feudal Era Japan. When he got close enough, the Asian man jumped at closest Gemna soldier and knocked him down with a butterfly kick.
**WHAM!**
When the Asian man landed on the ground, he eyed the next closest Gemna and hit him in the head with a step-in side kick, thrusting the heel of his foot into the side of the Genma's head.
**SNAP!**
The Genma soldier dropped on the floor, dead (again), with its neck snapped, before dissipating into nothing.
The third Genma soldier crept up on the Asian man from behind and lifted up its katana, ready to swing down for the killing strike.
The Asian man looked behind himself, saw the Genma soldier trying to attack from behind, and repelled him with a thrusting back kick to the sternum.
**WHAM!**
The Gemna soldier was knocked back a few feet before it hit the ground.
"Oh no you don't!" Colleen yelled as she ran toward the downed Genma soldier and thrusting her katana into its skull, killing it (again).
"Thanks!" the young Asian man said to Colleen, then returned to fighting the Gemna soldiers who were trying to force their way into the bus. The man quickly attacked the fourth Genma soldier with a barrage of side and roundhouse kicks with his right leg.
The barrage of kicks was too much for the Genma soldier who fell to the ground, dead (again).
The Asian man attacked the next Genma soldier with a flying scissor kick, knocking the undead soldier back with the kick's force. As soon as the Asian man landed from the kick, he ran at the Genma soldier, who was struggling to keep its balance, with a flying side kick to the head.
**SNAP!**
The force of the kick broke the Genma soldier's neck, killing it (again).
Colleen turned to the end of the street, where the army of Genma soldiers marched from, then turned to face the Asian man.
"Daehan, aim your rockets there!" Colleen directed, pointing to the building corners at the intersection. "That should slow those freaks down."
The Asian man, now known as "Daehan," nodded, then aimed his right knee at the corner of one random building at the end of the street. Daehan's mechanical right leg opened up, revealing a built-in rocket launcher, fully loaded with ammo.
"Time for K-1," Daehan said to himself, firing a rocket from his mechanical right leg. The rocket whizzed past a couple of approaching Genma soldiers before making impact with its intended target.
**KABOOM!**
The rocket made impact, taking out the building corner and also taking out several Genma soldiers in the process.
Daehan's right leg readied another rocket.
"Another K-1," Daehad said, aiming his right knee at the opposite building corner, before he fired the rocket.
**KABOOM!**
The other building corner was taken out, leaving behind only a small opening for the Genma soldiers to push through.
"Good! That should slow down those things." Colleen said, relieved.
"But there's still that small gap." Daehan said, point at the small opening that the Genma soldiers were entering through.
Colleen eyed the some of the abandoned vehicles parked on the opposite curbsides. "Can you keep them at bay while I hotwire the cars?"
Daehan nodded, then sprinted towards the intersection.
"Hey, don't have fun without me!" shouted a young teenage boy from the opposite end.
Colleen turned her face to see a teenage Asian boy, dressed in a high school baseball uniform, cap on backwards, running in her direction. He held an abnormally large baseball bat in his hands. The teenage Asian boy also wore a satchel that contained a number of small spherical objects, like balls.
"What are you doing here, Shoma?" Colleen asked the boy, revealed as "Shoma."
Shoma didn't respond to Colleen, but instead grabbed something from his satchel, a baseball, and cupped it in his right hand. The teenage boy charged the baseball with energy that emanated from his being and eyed a couple of the undead Genma soldiers staggering in their direction.
"BUSHIN MAKYU!" Shoma shouted, throwing the baseball in a high-speed pitch, at the incoming Genma soldiers.
The baseball suddenly "turned" into a hundred baseballs, hitting one of the Genma soldiers on impact, and killing it (again).
"Hey, answer me!" Colleen demanded.
"Ugggh, so annoying! You're just as bad as Natsu!" Shoma lashed back at Colleen.
Colleen eyed her katana, tempted to kill Shoma for being disrespectful towards her. She sighed, then took a deep breath. "I heard that, you little shit..." Colleen responded back, not impressed with Shoma's attitude.
"Shut up! I'm doing what I can to save people!" Shoma fired back.
Colleen shook her head, there was no point fighting with Shoma right now. "Just don't get yourself killed, I don't want to be the one to break the news to your family and friends."
Shoma sprinted in the direction of the incoming Genma soldiers, drew his large baseball bat, and swung at random enemies.
Colleen turned to Daehan, making a facial expression that told him to go help Shoma.
Daehan nodded, complied, and followed after Shoma.
"I'll beat all you zombie freaks back to the Hell you came from!" Shoma exclaimed, feeling fiery and envigorated in this battle.
Daehan sprinted at the nearest Genma soldier and dispatched it with a flying butterfly kick to the head, snapping its neck, and killing it (again). He landed on his feet, faced a second Genma soldier, one brandishing an axe, and knocked it to the ground with a tornado roundhouse kick & jump spinning hook kick combo.
Colleen knocked on the door to the bus full of trapped civilians. The doors opened and Colleen stepped inside the bus, then looked at the scared civilians, and the equally scared bus driver. "Okay, we've held enough of them at bay. Get the bus to the other way, to safety." Colleen instructed.
The Bus Driver nodded repeatedly.
"Get everyone out of here now, I'm depending on you." Colleen said to the bus driver, then stepped out, back onto the street.
Genma soldiers and demonic-looking ninjas materialized around Colleen. These "ninjas" had three glowing green eyes and were armed with wrist blades.
"This is new." Colleen said to herself, eyeing the ninjas known as the 3-Eyes.
One of the 3-Eyes jumped at Colleen with the intent of decapitating her. Colleen responded by dodging to the right, spinning herself, and slashing the 3-Eyes in half with the katana.
Another 3-Eyes jumped at Colleen from behind, but dropped to the ground, dead.
Colleen turned to the dead 3-Eyes and saw a dagger made of light energy lodged into the side of its head, she had a good guess on who had just saved her.
"Duck!" yelled a girl's voice.
Colleen quickly complied, then a barrage of light energy daggers flew over her head, and impaling the Genma soldiers.
The Genma soldiers were enveloped in a bright light before shattering into bright energy fragments.
Colleen slowly stood up and eyed what was left of the Genma soldiers, shocked and impressed. She turned to where the direction of the bright energy daggers came from, seeing a teenage white girl who was dressed in a white skin-tight outfit.
"Dagger, what are you doing here? Aren't you always with Cloak?" Colleen asked.
"We were guiding the kids at a youth shelter to safety. The group was too big, we had to split them up. I just got done escorting my group to a nearby shelter." Dagger explained.
"Perfect timing." Colleen said, smiling.
Dagger turned her eyes in the direction of Shoma and Daehan who effortlessly took down one Genma soldier after another.
"Who are they?" Dagger asked, curious about Colleen's new allies.
"Friends from alternate universes... Shoma is a high school baseball player with a mean pitch and lethal bat skills. Daehan, the one with the mechanical leg, is a popular action movie star in his home universe." Colleen answered.
"Daikaiten Dappou!" Shoma yelled, executing a spinning bat swing attack. The impact bludgeoned at least three Genma soldiers, critically injuring them.
Daehan charged at another Genma soldier, one wielding an axe, and executed his "Nosedive Picking" special attack, hitting with a jumping side kick with the right leg. The Korean fighter remained in midair after the kick made impact, then stomped on the Genma's head three times, and finishing off the Genma soldier with a jump spinning hook kick before landing back on the ground.
Dagger, seeing the fighting from a distance, was shocked.
"Cloak definitely needs to see this..." Dagger said.
"Shoma's tough but he's too hotheaded and is bad at following instructions." Colleen added.
Daehan faced another Genma soldier and executed his "Sling Shackle" special attack by hitting it with a jumping side kick, landing on feet, then crouching, and sweeping him of his feet with a spinning foot sweep.
Shoma grabbed another baseball from his satchel and eyed another Genma. He executed his "Cho-go-sok-kyu" special attacking, pitching it in the direction of the Genma's head. The baseball made impact with the Genma soldier's forehead, sending him down.
The bus next to Colleen started up and slowly moved from the curbside.
More Genma materialized around Colleen, Dagger, and the bus.
"You should check on the kids." Colleen said.
Dagger shook her head, refusing to leave Colleen behind. "They're safe, you need my help right now."
"What about Cloak?" Colleen asked.
"He'll be fine. Cloak's been filling me in. He got saved by some old man named Leroy who has a dog with him." Dagger responded, then continued. "Cloak just told me to stay with you and to link back up with him after this is over."
"You sure?" Colleen asked, she wanted to make sure Dagger was certain about staying behind.
Dagger nodded, certain that she didn't want to leave Colleen by herself.
Colleen's phone, attached to the left side of her belt, started ringing. Dagger eyed Colleen's phone and saw "Luke Cage" on the Caller ID, knowing who the caller was.
"I think you should get that." Dagger said, pointing at Colleen's phone.
"Not now, we have to deal with these things first." Colleen replied, steadily gripping her mystical katana.
"I think it's serious, it says that 'Luke Cage' is calling." Dagger said.
Colleen sighed. "Can you hold these things off while I take the call?"
Dagger nodded.
"Sure, those things are easy to kill. Apparently they hate Lightforce energy." Dagger generated six light daggers in her right hand and threw them at several of the Genma soldiers, killing them (again). Their bodies were enveloped in a bright white light before shattering into energy fragments.
"Thanks." Colleen said to Dagger, then grabbing her phone to answer Luke's call. She put the call on speaker so that Dagger could listen, too.
"Colleen, finally." said Luke on the other end of the line.
With the nearby Genma eliminated, the bus slowly pulled out of the curb, and quickly drove off to safety.
While Colleen answered Luke's call, Dagger surveyed the level of death and destruction. She frowned, saddened by the loss of life. "These were everyday people, their hopes and dreams snuffed out by those things..." she quietly said to herself.
"Luke, you all right?" Colleen asked.
"Yeah... But we had to evacuate all of Harlem." Cage said, disappointed.
Colleen frowned, feeling bad for Cage.
"I'm sorry to hear that." Colleen responded.
"It's good, we can always rebuild. I tried reaching Jessica but she's not answering."
"Jessica's probably still with Misty. I'm at the East Broadway part of Chinatown, helping evacuate the citizens to safety. These freaks just keep coming."
"You mean the Genma?"
"The who?" Colleen asked. She was clueless and confused about these 'Genma' that Luke had just mentioned a few seconds ago.
"Oh right, you don't know about them yet. My new friend, Soki, told us they come from his time. They're from a demonic dimension and controlled by Oda Nobunaga."
Colleen sighed and shook her head in disbelief. "Oda Nobunaga, check."
"I'll try to reconnect with you guys. We had to separate at the 110th Street-Central Harlem North Station. I'm making sure that my group makes it to the safe zone in Central Park."
"Is Soki with you?"
"No. We ran into Pepper Potts, Johnny Storm, and Sam Wilson on the way. Pepper and Johnny are escorting Soki to Doctor Strange's place."
"I'll let Jessica know the situation. Stay safe, okay?"
"Yeah, see you guys later." Cage said, ending the call.
Colleen put the phone back into her side holster and eyed Shoma & Daehan who were still fighting, effortlessly, against the Genma soldiers.
"Shoma, get back! I'll hold them off!" Daehan requested, looking at his prosthetic right leg.
Shoma knew what Daehan had planned and complied, quickly retreating back to where Colleen was. He turned back around, eyed a few more Genma soldiers, took out a couple of baseballs, and performed multiple "Cho-go-sok-kyu" special attacks.
Daehan ran towards a random parked vehicle, jumped on top of the roof, vaulted off, then eyed the Genma soldiers who were still entering through that small gap at the intersection. He aimed his right knee at the Gemna soldiers and shouted "K-10!"
His prosthetic right leg opened up and launched a volley of all remaining rockets.
**KABOOM!**
**KABOOM!**
**KABOOM!**
**KABOOM!**
The remaining Gemna were exterminated in a ball of fire and a blast of shrapnel.
While in midair, Daehan twisted his body and gently landed on his feet. Dagger and Colleen, watching the action at a distance, were awed. After landing, Daehan followed Shoma back over to where Colleen was.
"Who are you?" Shoma asked, directing his question at Dagger.
Daehan stopped walking once he got within a few feet of Colleen, then turned his direction toward Dagger.
"My name is Dagger, who are you?" Dagger politely asked Shoma.
"Shoma Sawamura, remember the name!" Shoma exclaimed, still fired up and eager to continue fighting. He then punched his right first upward into the air.
"I'm Han Daehan." Daehan said, politely bowing his head to Dagger.
"Nice to meet you, Daehan. I'm Dagger." Dagger said, extending her hand for a handshake.
Daehan nodded as he shook Dagger's hand, which triggered a vision for Dagger. This vision was of Daehan regaining his actual right leg and tossing his prosthetic aside.
"Is something wrong?" Daehan asked, seeing the entranced look on Dagger's face.
Dagger shook her head. "It's fine, thank you for asking. This leg of yours can fire rockets?"
Daehan nodded. "It's a long story." he answered.
"We can save the chat for later, we have to meet back up with Misty and the others." Colleen said, then turning to face Dagger. "You're more than welcome to join us." Colleen said, inviting Dagger to join the slightly growing group.
Dagger nodded, then smiled. "Thank you, can Cloak join us?"
Colleen nodded. "We need to stick together. Cloak can teleport, right?"
Dagger nodded.
"Once we meet up with Misty and her group, you send the message to Cloak." Colleen instructed.
60-64 Mott Street, Chinatown – Manhattan, New York
Panicked civilians fled towards the Chinese Community Center, which is located at 60-64 Mott Street in Manhattan's Chinatown. It was one of the closest places that could provide sanctuary from the rising number of Genma soldiers.
Misty Knight, a Black woman, stood at the front entrance to the Chinese Community Center, calling for the scared civilians to come inside. Her hair was styled in an afro and she wore a red jumpsuit that revealed a prosthetic right arm.
"You'll be safe inside, hurry!"
A Genma soldier instantly materialized in front of Misty and immediately attacked by swinging its katana.
"Oh, hell no!" Misty exclaimed as she blocked the incoming swing with her right arm, then quickly drawing her pistol with her left arm, aiming at the Genma soldier's head, and firing a few rounds into its head.
**POW!**
**POW!**
**POW!**
The Gemna soldier slumped on the ground, dead (again), then dissipated into a plume of smoke.
"These things keep coming..." Misty said to herself, distressed and exhausted from the situation. They were going up against an enemy with limitless numbers.
A few more Genma soldiers materialized from behind Misty, rushed her, and attacked.
"Hey, look alive!" yelled a young man's voice.
A tall and muscular black teenage boy charged at the Genma soldiers from the side. He quickly crouched down, knocked one Genma down with a foot sweep, followed up with a flare (a breakdance move), transitioned into a handstand, and attacked the other Genma with a helicopter kick.
The force and speed of the boy's helicopter kick generated a whirlwind effect, creating a breeze, that even Misty could feel.
That was only the tip of the figurative iceberg to what the teenage boy was truly capable of. The force of the boy's helicopter kicks violently tore through the Genma soldiers like they were nothing to him. He quickly spun back to his feet, ran toward a nearby SUV, and hit it with a missile drop kick.
**WHAM!**
The force of the kick unleashed an explosion of ki energy that violently sent the SUV tumbling in the direction of a large mass of Genma marching in their direction.
**POW!**
**POW!**
Two shots, coming from above the building, flew in the direction of the SUV that tumbled in the distance.
The boy, now agitated, looked up at the roof of the building.
"Paladin, what the hell are you doing? Not everybody's been evacuated yet!" the young teenage boy, exclaimed, conscious about the potential loss of innocent life.
"Kid, don't tell me know to do my job! I've been doing this a long longer than you!" the man, known as Paladin, hollered back.
"Bob, Paladin knows what he's doing." Misty assured.
The tall and muscular, athletic, teenage boy, now known as Bob, nodded. "Okay, it's your world, your rules. I'm apologize for the outburst."
"It's all good, Bob. You're one of the few kids I come across who actually use their brains." Misty said, complimenting Bob.
**POW!**
**POW!**
The SUV's fuel tank was hit, causing the vehicle to catch fire. A few seconds later...
**KABOOM!**
Bob and Misty watched the SUV explode in a small ball of flame, taking out all surrounding Genma in a 30-foot radius. If the flames didn't kill the Genma soldiers, the flying shrapnel and glass shards would've finished the job.
"What the hell they be feeding you back in your world?" Misty asked, half-jokingly and half-seriously. She looked Bob up and down, wondering if he was really human.
Bob shrugged. "You'll have to ask my girl, Chiaki."
"Yeah, I'll do just that." Misty responded. She turned to see a family of seven running in the direction of the Chinese Community Center. The family consisted of a couple that looked to be in their late-40s, accompanied by four children, and an elderly woman.
One of the children, a Chinese-American boy that appeared to be nine or 10, cradled a puppy.
A few Gemna materialized in front of the family, startling the puppy. The puppy jumped from the boy's arm and angrily barked at one of the Genma.
The 10-year-old boy, fearful for his dog's life, tried to run towards the puppy, but was held back by the boy's father.
Two of the Genma stared down at the dog, raised their katanas into the air, and got ready to strike down at the puppy for its insolence.
The puppy stopped barking and whimpered in fear, knowing it was about to die a violent death.
"No animal's dying on my watch!" Misty exclaimed, aiming her prothetic right arm at the Genma, and firing an electromagnetic pulse.
The Genma were electrocuted and they slumped on the ground, dead (again).
The puppy happily barked at Misty, then the 10-year-old boy broke free from his father's grip, ran towards the puppy, picked it up, and cradled it.
"Thank you, miss." said the young woman.
"All in a day's work, but you all need to get inside right now." Misty said.
"Yes, of course." the woman said. She turned to the rest of her family. "We have to listen to the nice lady, okay?"
The children nodded as they paced toward the front entrance with their parents and their grandmother following behind, quickly entering the front entrance to the Chinese Community Center. The family and their puppy were safe but there were still hundreds, possibly thousands in the area, who still needed saving.
Shortly after, the ground gently rumbled.
"What the hell's going on right now!?" Misty asked, in disbelief. The last thing they needed or wanted to deal with was a natural disaster, let alone an earthquake.
"You get earthquakes in New York?" Bob asked.
"RARELY, even when some criminal is causing the earthquakes." Misty answered.
A large glowing blue orb of energy, with energy streaks spinning around the orb, appeared roughly 60 feet from where Misty and Bob were standing. It hovered five feet off the ground.
"It's not an earthquake, it looks like a temporal rift!" Misty exclaimed, sounding as if this wasn't the first time she has experienced one. She held her gun in the left hand and aimed it at the glowing blue orb, then also aiming her right hand at the orb.
"What are you doing?" Bob asked, curious and confused.
"Bob, be on your guard. We don't know if the people coming out of that rift are friendly or hostile. I'm saying this from EXPERIENCE, you hear me?"
Bob nodded, taking Misty's word for it. He stood close to Misty and put up his hands, ready to defend himself against anything or anyone coming from the rift.
The orb glowed brighter, showing several human-looking silhouettes inside.
"They're human!" Bob exclaimed.
Misty nodded, her gun and prosthetic arm still aimed at the glowing orb. "Human doesn't automatically mean friendly. You'll get yourself killed in this world FAST with that kind of thinking."
"Noted." Bob replied, composed. "If Souichiro was here, he'd assume everyone was an enemy or rival..." he added.
"From what you told me, your friend is obviously 'fun' to be around." Misty replied.
Bob chuckled, agreeing with Misty. "Yeah, Souichiro would be running around this entire city to take out every last of these freaks."
"Hopefully you'll reunite with your friends soon." Misty assured.
"Yeah, that would make Chiaki's day. I'm relieved that she came to this universe with me." Bob said, happy and relieved.
"Chiaki's been learning as much as she can everyday, trying to make herself useful. Colleen said that her sword skills have been improving. I wish Burai would teach Boxing to Chiaki, but that boy freaks out whenever he's around the opposite sex." Misty commented.
Bob laughed. "Luke and Jessica have been 'counseling' Burai, saying he needs to conquer that fear."
"They treating you well, Bob?" Misty asked, genuinely concerned for Bob's well-being.
"Yeah, Luke's treating me like a younger brother." Bob answered.
The orb dispersed, leaving behind a large group of people.
They were human, teenagers, wearing unique , formal-looking, military combat uniforms, nothing that the modern-day militaries of the world were wearing. It was as if these teenagers were fighting in World War I, but their uniforms looked nothing of the sort. They were distraught and disoriented, like they just stepped out of some crazy ride.
"All of you, put your weapons down!" Misty commanded, she wasn't taking chances.
"Wait, they're just kids!" Bob interjected, not comfortable with thinking these teenagers as 'hostile.'
The large group of newly transported teenager soldiers turned their attention to Misty, who still had her pistol and prosthetic arm aimed at them.
"I know you all outnumber me, but don't get any ideas. I have a sharpshooter perched on that rooftop, ready to blow your heads in. He don't care if you're all just kids!" Misty warned.
The teenage soldiers looked at Misty, shocked and confused.
One of the teenage soldiers, faced Misty and saw the intent in her eyes. He slowly laid his weapon, a heavy machinegun, on the ground. The boy then raised his hands, signalling to Misty that he nor his 'friends' meant no harm.
"Zeri, what are you doing?" asked one of the soldiers, a young-looking teenage girl with short blonde hair with a hair piece over her head.
"That woman means business and we absolutely have NO idea where we are..." the boy known as 'Zeri' answered.
"Zeri's right, Cosette." said another young boy. This boy, who also looked to be the same age as Bob, had reddish brown hair, which was short and messy. He then turned to the rest of the group, signalling for them to lower their weapons. "Class G, put the weapons down."
"Alright, Avan..." the blonde-haired girl, known as 'Cosette,' said, complying.
The rest of this Class G complied with Avan's order.
Zeri turned to the rest of the group, which this 'Avan' named 'Class G,' then fixed his shades. "We don't know if we're in Gallia or it we're in Imperial territory."
One man, the oldest in the group, who looked to be in his late-20s or early 30s, decided to speak up. He wore an old-school military cap, something that European military officers wore in World War II. "Lieutenant Hardins, I can assure you that this is not Imperial land. We have no structures or city designs of the sort."
"Good..." Misty said as the members of Class G complied with her orders. They were still by their weapons and that needed to change. "Now, slowly step away from your weapons. If you try anything slick, I'll either shoot you or shock you..." she warned.
An electrical charge emitted from Misty's right hand, scaring and impressing the members of Class G.
Zeri's curiousity was piqued, but this wasn't the moment to ask questions. He and the rest of Class G slowly and carefully inched away from their weapons, showing Misty and Bob that they mean no harm.
"All of you get into a single-file line, get on your knees, and then put your hands behind your head." Misty ordered.
"Whoa, whoa, whoa!" Avan protested, waving his hands. "We mean you no harm, we're just-"
"Paladin, fire a warning shot!" Misty commanded.
"Got it!" Paladin responded.
**BANG!**
A sniper round hit the ground a few inches away from Avan's feet. The rest of Class G complied and formed a single-file line along the street, then followed the rest of Misty's commands.
"You heard the lady, do as she says!" Zeri said, mostly composed. He didn't want to comply but knew this was neither the time nor the place to be a "hero."
"I get it, she means business." Avan added.
Zeri and Avan walked to the end of the line, then did what Misty commanded them to do.
Misty turned to Bob. "Search them, they might have concealed weapons. If they try anything stupid, knock them the hell out."
"Yeah, sure." Bob said. He expressed discomfort in how these people were being treated but chose to comply anyway, reminding himself that he was a guest in this world.
"Make it quick, there's no telling when more of those undead freaks will show up again." Misty added, still keeping her eyes on Class G.
Bob walked toward the end of the line where Avan and Zeri were, kneeling down with their hands behind their heads. He carefully patted down Avan, then did the same with Zeri.
"They're clean." Bob said, informing Misty.
Misty turned her eyes to Avan and Zeri. "Identify yourselves." Misty ordered.
"Yes, ma'am. My name is Cadet Avan Hardins of the Lanseal Royal Military Academy." Avan responded.
"My name is Cadet Zeri, no last name, of the Lanseal Royal Military Academy. Cadet Hardins is our class leader and squad commander." Zeri added.
"We're all from Class G of Lanseal." Avan explained.
Misty arched her brow. She has NEVER even heard of this 'Lanseal Royal Military Academy' but Avan and company did appear out of a glowing blue orb a few moments ago.
"Where are you from?" Misty asked, interrogating the members of Class G.
"We are from the nation of Gallia." Zeri answered.
"Gallia? I've never heard of it. Have you, Bob?"
Bob shook his head.
"You never heard of Gallia!?" Avan asked, shocked and puzzled.
"Where are we?" Zeri asked.
"You're in New York City, well the Manhattan part to be exact." Misty answered. Misty was convinced that these teenagers were from one of those parallel universes and didn't want to ask anymore questions but KNEW THAT SHE HAD TO.
"New York City, what is this New York City?" Cosette asked.
Misty's face paled in shock and horror, how could someone not know about New York City? "Paladin, are you hearing this?"
"Yeah, loud and clear... I don't want to be the one who has to give them the history lesson." Paladin said, groaning.
"Where is this New York City?" Zeri asked.
"The United States." Misty answered.
"We're across the Atlantic?" Avan asked, shocked.
"Yeah... If you know about the Atlantic, then how come you don't know anything about New York City?" Misty asked, suspicious.
"We've never left Gallia. We wouldn't know anything about the United States of Vinland." Zeri answered.
Misty's eyes widened, incredibly shocked. "Vinland?"
Bob took a deep breath and shook his head. "I really wish I was back in my apartment with Chiaki." Bob said to himself, this was too much for his head to handle. "I'm getting a headache from listening to all this..."
"United States of Vinland?" Misty asked.
"Yeah, we have to be in Vinland if we're across the Atlantic." Avan said, with a genuine tone in his voice.
"Oookay... I'm going to be very BLUNT about this, but y'all are not in this 'Vinland,' you're in the United States of America." Misty said.
"What is this place called America?" Zeri asked, genuinely curious about their new surroundings.
Bob walked away from Avan and Zeri, then continued searching the rest of Class G.
Everybody was interrupted by the sounds of screams and yells. Misty and Bob turned their attention to the left, seeing a large group of people running for their lives. They were pursued by the Genma foot soldiers.
"Great, last thing I needed..."
Suddenly, more Genma appeared out of nowhere, the regular grunts (the undead soldiers) and those Three-Eyes (the wall-crawlers). They surrounded Misty on all sides.
"Whoa, what are those things!?" Avan asked, astonished and puzzled.
"I think they're hostile." Zeri answered, remaining calm and composed, though understanding that he should be freaking out right now.
"I just have the shittiest luck today..." Misty groaned to herself. She then aimed her right arm at a large group of Genma to her right. "Y'all need to just CHILL OUT!"
A blast of cryogenic energy fired from Misty's right hand, freezing the Genma in place. She then ran at the frozen Genma and shattered the first one with an uppercut with the right arm, shattered the second Genma soldier with a spinning back fist with the right arm, and then shattered the third Genma soldier with a left leg roundhouse kick.
The members of Class G were in shock and awe as they witnessed Misty take on these horrifying enemies.
A few more Genma soldiers materialized behind Bob and got ready to attack, but Bob "sensed" their intentions by feeling the vibrations on the ground. He turned to one of the Genma soldiers and dispatched it with a Capoeira-style spin kick called a 'meia lua de compasso.'
Bob's kick generated more than enough power to easily kill the Genma soldier, causing it to disintegrate into nothing.
Avan turned his attention to the large group of civilians who were fleeing from the larger group of Genma that were pursuing them.
"Lady, let us help!" Avan exclaimed, genuinely wanting to help out.
"Repulsor Blast!" Misty shouted, firing a repulsor blast from her right hand, knocking back at least seven Genma soldiers.
"Please, those people are going to die if we don't help!" Avan argued.
Misty sighed, she WASN'T ready to trust these kids yet, since they came from another world, but this was one of those "beggars can't be choosers" situations. They did agree to put down their weapons when Misty ordered them to do so, which was another thing consider.
"Fine... If any of you try any funny shit, you're going to join the body count." Misty said, granting them permission to help while warning them not to betray her.
"You won't regret this decision, ma'am!" Avan said. He turned his attention to the rest of Class G, who were lined up in a single-file motion.
"Paladin, cover these kids while they secure their gear." Misty ordered.
"Got it, don't have to tell me twice." Paladin said, still perched on the roof. He aimed and fired at any Genma that got close to Misty or the members of Class G.
"Zeri, take a team of shocktroopers and intercept those freaks. We don't want to have any civilian casualties." Avan commanded. He then turned his attention to Cosette. "Go with Zeri, those civilians will need medical help."
Cosette nodded. "Got it."
Zeri ran towards the pile of weapons that they were ordered to lay down earlier, grabbed the a submachine gun (SMG) and several grenades. The submachinegun looked primitive, something out of the World War I era.
"Erik, Franca, Pete, with me!" Zeri requested.
"Tch, yeah, yeah... Don't have to tell me twice." said Erik, a teenage boy with short blonde hair that was slicked back. The person gave off an aura that he was difficult to get along with. He grabbed a heavy machinegun and a large ammo box, which Erik put the latter over his back, and connected it to his heavy machinegun.
Zeri saw a nearby parked SUV on the curbside. "Erik, get yourself on top of that vehicle! Cover us while we go on the offensive against those freaks."
Erik sighed. "Man... I wanted to have some fun and tear into those freaks."
"I believe you'll get your chance, Erik." Zeri assured.
Erik smiled, then complied with Zeri's request. He ran towards the SUV, climbed onto the hood, and took a kneeling position on the SUV's roof. "I'm hoping for a good fight."
"Franca, Pete, follow me." Zeri commanded.
Franca, a tall girl with short brunette hair, grabbed an SMG and a flamethrower from the pile of weapons, then walked over to Zeri, awaiting orders.
Pete, a short and skinny boy, grabbed an SMG from the pile of weapons. He had copper colored hair, tanned skin, and bandages over his face.
"Shoot those things in the head, if you can, it'll kill them fast. Don't worry about killing them, they ain't human." Misty said, directing her words to Zeri and his team.
Avan turned to face an older teenage girl with medium-length and wavy reddish brunette hair with a hairband keeping it in place. "Coleen, provide mortar support." he commanded.
"Me?" Coleen asked, shocked.
"Yeah, we need your Mobile Lancer skills." Avan explaiend.
"I guess..." Coleen said, nervous and unsure of herself. She ran to the stockpile of weapons and grabbed some fancy-looking lance, then ran over to Zeri.
Zeri faced Coleen. "I need you to take the front, the three of us will cover you."
Coleen nodded and ran in the direction of the fleeing civilians. Zeri, Franca, and Pete followed suit. The four of them intercepted the fleeing civilians.
"Hurry, get to safety!" Zeri said to the civilians.
Coleen sifted her way through all of the fleeing civilians, then saw the large army of Genma soldiers. They were intimidating, rightfully so, and horrifying to look at, making Coleen feel nervous and anxious. She took a deep breath, gulped, and fired a rocket from her unique looking lance.
**KABOOM!**
The blast from Coleen's weapon took out at least 23 Gemna soldiers. It shocked and amazed Coleen, making her throw her fist in the air in triumph. "I did it!" Coleen exclaimed, feeling accomplished and triumphant.
"Coleen, now's not the time to celebrate!" Zeri exclaimed.
From the smoldering flames came more Genma soldiers, who had Coleen in their sights.
"Move back and reload!" Zeri directed at Coleen. He turned to Franca and Pete, "Fire team, advance and engage."
The three-person team of Zeri, Franca, and Pete advanced. They quickly aimed their SMGs at the incoming Genma soldiers and opened fire.
**RATATATATATATATATATATATATAT!**
The Genma soldiers dropped to the ground, dead (again), but more came marching in place of their fallen brethren. One Genma, a Three-Eyes, materialized a few feet behind Zeri, and lunged for a fatal attack.
**POW!**
**POW!**
**POW!**
Zeri turned around and saw the Three-Eyes on the ground, dead, then looked around to see where the shots were coming from.
Perched on a random rooftop was a teenage girl, black hair with a green ribbon tied over, and armed with a sniper rifle. She had a look of satisfaction over her face from killing the Three-Eyes that attempted to kill Zeri with a back attack.
"That'll teach them to mess with my Zeri." the girl said to herself. There was a tone of possessiveness in her voice.
Coleen reloaded her unique looking lance and looked at Zeri. "I'm ready!"
Zeri and the other two moved back as Coleen stepped forward. Coleen aimed her lance at the large number of marching Genma and fired.
**KABOOM!**
Avan turned to the rest of Class G members who were currently rearming themselves and waiting for further orders.
"Well, damn..." Misty said, shocked and impressed, witnessing Zeri and company in action.
Avan then ran up to Misty. "Ma'am, is there any way we can get into some of the buildings? We'll have the advantage."
"Yeah, knock yourselves out. I don't think anyone bothered to lock up when they hauled ass from danger." Misty said.
"Thanks, lady!" Avan said. He turned to the rest of Class G and motioned for them to huddle up. The remnants of Class G complied and huddled up with Avan.
"Avan, we're missing someone." said a young-looking girl with silver hair.
Avan looked at everyone who huddled up with him and indeed noticed someone was missing from the group.
"Thanks, Aliasse." Avan said. "Anybody see Melissa around?"
The members of Class G were silent, they had NO clue where Melissa went.
"You know, I noticed that an automatic rifle was missing." said one of the Class G members.
"Okay... We'll let Melissa do her own thing." Avan said, sensing that Melissa was "keeping an eye" on Zeri though it was more like stalking Zeri. "While Zeri and his group are fending off those things on that side, I want the Techs to lay mines on the other side. I want you all to start laying the mines when you're two-hundred feet from our location and stop once you reach fifty feet."
Avan eyed the nearby buildings.
40 Minutes Later...
The other side of the 60-64 Mott Street was heavily defended with a mine field a few hundred meters away and Class G's Armor Tech troopers setting up a literal defensive shield.
Everything was "peaceful," so far. It relieved Misty but concerned her at the same time because this could be the "calm before the storm."
Avan walked up to Misty, now on better terms with her. "Class G's got this place on lock." Avan said, feeling sure of himself with a sense of well-earned accomplishment.
"I can see that." Misty said, her tone of voice being friendlier. "I apologize for being hostile earlier, we get a lot of people from alternate worlds. We have no idea if they're friend or foe."
"What are we?" Avan asked curiously.
"Y'all are all right in my book. But you should thank my friend over there, Bob Makihara." Misty said, pointing over to Bob, who was sitting on the hood of a random car, chilling, and waiting for any threat that would come his way.
Avan nodded. "I will, thanks for putting your faith in us. I know we're a class of misfits, but we work very hard as a team."
Misty nodded, she understood. "Hey, I respect that you all have your shit locked down. But I am surprised they let a bunch of kids do the fighting."
"It's a long story..." Avan said.
"I'll be looking forward to hearing the 4-1-1 on your world." Misty responded.
"4-1-1?" Avan asked, not understanding what Misty meant.
"Never mind. We can talk more when reinforcements arrive. Reinforcements should be here in a couple of hours, we'll holding down the fort for now."
"Yes, ma'am." Avan said before walking away to check on the rest of Class G.
"It's Misty, Misty Knight, not ma'am. You got it, Avan Hardins?" Misty rhetorically asked.
"Yeah, I'm sorry. It takes time getting used to." Avan answered. He surveyed the defensive parameter as this was Class G's first time fighting in a very big city even though it was only to defend a small part of just a single street. There was also new enemies, undead and inhuman, that needed to be factored in, too. "We're definitely not in Gallia anymore." he said to himself, then added "These things would easily take out the G.R.A., too, if they crossed paths."
"You good, Avan?" Bob asked, hopping off the hood of the car, and walking up to Avan.
Avan turned to Bob and nodded. "Yeah, Bob, thanks for asking."
Bob smiled. "At least you're using your head. My bestie, Souichiro, would've told everybody to rush those freaks. I'd be one of the stupid people who'd join him."
Avan softly laughed, getting the sense this "Souichiro" was a valued friend of Bob.
"I'm surprised we're putting up a good defense right now." Bob observed.
"I'm surprised, myself. This is the FIRST time we've come across an enemy like this. We've fought powerful enemies, but the Valkyria never brought the sense of dread we're feeling right now." Avan explained, taking a deep breath after.
Bob patted Avan on the shoulder as a sign of support. "This is like my FIRST time with these freaks, too. I'm impressed at all your ass-kicking."
"Thanks, Bob." Avan said, grateful for Bob's support. "I have the Lancers and scouts on the roof, heavy gunners on the second and third floors, engineers floating around to provide support, and shocktroopers scouring the alleys."
"I guess that leaves you, me, and Misty to cover this area." Bob said.
"Don't forget me, Bob." said a girl's voice.
"Cassie?" Bob asked, looked down to see where the voice was coming from. He saw a very tiny person, someone who was shrunk down to size.
"Where's that voice coming from?" Avan asked, then started to move about.
"Wait, don't move!" Bob emphasized to Avan.
Avan hopped off his feet, startled, and landed on his butt. "Gah, that hurts!"
The tiny person expanded until being normal size. It was a teenage girl with a battle outfit and a helmet.
Avan had a freaked out look on his face, it's NOT everyday that someone "magically" appears in front of you. He was speechless and could only observe the casual conversation between Bob and this "Cassie."
"Cassie, how are things on your end?" Bob asked.
"Chinatown's in chaos. I saw Colleen's group heading back to the rendezvous point, Dagger joined up with them." Cassie explained.
"Who's that?" Bob asked.
"Dagger's a friend. I should be asking who your new buddies are." Cassie answered.
"Longer story. Cassie, this is Avan Hardins." Bob said, turning his direction to the shocked and speechless Avan who was still seated on the ground.
Avan regained his composure and stood back up, dusting himself off.
"Avan, this is Cassie Lang. She's a native of this world." Bob said, introducing Avan to Cassie.
"Nice to meet you, Avan." Cassie said, extending her right hand for a handshake.
"Um, nice to meet you, too, Cassie." Avan said, shaking Cassie's hand. "I can introduce you to my friends later after we're relieved."
Misty walked up to Cassie, wanting to know the current situation. "Cassie, got anything to update?"
"Yeah, East Broadway has been evacuated. Colleen, Daehan, and Shoma are heading back to the rendezvous point." Cassie answered.
"Anything on Iron Fist and the others?" Misty asked.
"Yeah, Jessica managed to call me in the middle of the fighting. Some ancient-looking tank came out of this blue orb, the tank driver was hella confused and demanded answers." Cassie explained.
"Did you say a tank appeared?" Avan asked, curious about the tank.
"Yeah, you know anything about it?" Cassie asked.
Avan smiled, confident that he knew what the tank was and who was driving it. "Was the tank driver a young woman named Lavinia Lane?"
Cassie gave Avan a surprised expression. "You know her?"
"She's part of my group, Class G." Avan said.
"Class G?" Cassie asked.
"Another long story." Bob interjected, they didn't have time to go into the deals of Avan's world.
"I heard Dagger's with Colleen and the others, am I right?" Misty asked.
"Yeah. I wonder why Cloak wasn't with them, he and Dagger are always together." Cassie explained, taking off her helmet, revealing her long blonde hair. Her hair was sweaty, too, from all the running and fighting hours earlier.
"They probably split up, they'll always know where the other will be." Misty explained.
"I can't wait to get back to Cassie's and take a shower." Cassie said, wiping the sweat from her forehead.
"I could go for a nice relaxing bubble bath, myself..." Misty added.
"Aw, damn it. Don't jinx it!" Bob exclaimed as more Genma soldiers materialized around them.
**POW!**
**POW!**
**RATATATATATATATATATAT!**
The Genma dropped to the ground, dead (again), thanks to the members of Class G who were stationed on the upper floors of the nearby buildings.
"Damn, those kids work fast." Misty mused.
Cassie stared at the ground, shocked, that these undead things were taken down by a bunch of (mostly) teenage soldiers.
"They're putting S.H.I.E.L.D to shame." Cassie joked.
The ground vibrated again and another hovering blue orb of energy appeared in the middle of the street. Misty quickly turned to where Avan was.
"Avan, tell your people to hold their positions and NOT to open fire unless whoever or whatever comes out starts attacking!" Misty ordered.
"Got it." Avan said. He pulled out his portable radio and pressed a button before addressing Class G. "That blue ball thingy, don't shoot unless Misty says it's all right to."
"Hold your fire, guys!" Zeri ordered, directing his words to the fire team he led to guard the other side of the street. He turned to Erik, who was still on top of that parked SUV. "Keep your position here and shoot at anything hostile coming your way.
"Yeah, it's what I do." Erik said, bored out of his mind.
Zeri and his fire team quickly moved over to Avan's position. Aliasse, the youngest member of Class G, eyed the blue orb from one of the rooftops. Her eyes glowed light blue, like she was ready to unleash for major power on anything hostile coming through the blue orb.
A silhouette slowly formed within the orb.
"What's in that thing?" Zeri asked. He remained calm, collected, and composed, while keeping his SMG trained at whatever or whoever was about to come out of that orb.
"Hell if I know, your guess is as good as mine." Bob commented as he entered his fighting stance.
The silhouette formed more, revealing the body of a woman.
"It's a lady!" Avan exclaimed.
"Still don't mean she ain't hostile." Misty replied to Avan, with her gun and prosthetic arm aimed at the portal. "It's best you know and remember that looks are deceiving. This place is full of dangerous people who come in all shapes and size. I know Logan once mentioned some robot who looks like a little girl. Looks cute and innocent but lethal as hell..."
"What's a robot?" Avan asked, truly clueless about them.
Misty was shocked and dumbfounded, then shaked her head. "Okay, we'll tell you some other time. Looks like there's a lot about this world we need to teach you peeps, that way y'all stay alive longer."
The orb dispersed, leaving behind and attractive woman in her 20s. She was a white woman with an attractive physique, someone who could pass for a professional model or actress. Her bust size was well-endowed, too, something that Bob and the others took notice off.
Misty looked at the woman's hair which was black, long, and silky. "Wow, Colleen and Jessica are going to be envious of her hair."
Her outfit was exotic looking, too, a mix of Egyptian and Mediterranean. She wore a gold-colored metallic band over her head.
The woman was carried
Cassie looked at the woman's chest and then at her own chest, then sighing. "They never called me 'Stature' because of this..." Then she turned to see Bob, Avan, Zeri, and the other 'males' admiring the mysterious woman and her figure. She cleared her throat, LOUDLY, before turning her attention to Bob.
"Hey, something you wanted to tell us?" Bob asked, turning to Cassie while still trying to "admire" the mysterious woman's body.
"You think Chiaki's going to be cool with you looking at her like that?" Cassie asked.
"Pfft, Chiaki's bi. She'd be the first to invite this chick to stay with us." Bob nonchalantly answered.
Cassie gaped at Bob's answer. Her eyes were wide in shock, surprise, and horror. Then Cassie felt her own face turning beet red, forcing her to look away to avoid embarassment.
Misty shook her head. "This day gets weirder and weirder..."
The mysterious woman regained her composure, shaking off her disoriented feeling. She found herself in a new place, surrounded by people she did NOT know. Studying her surroundings and the people who were ready to attack, the mysterious woman knew this was neither the time nor the place to fight back.
"Are you friend or foe?" Misty asked with a stern tone of voice.
"How the hell should I know?" the woman asked, in response, sounding confrontational. "One moment I'm with my group on the battlefield, next I'm here. Well the hell am I?"
"Battle? Who were you fighting?" Zeri inquired, curious about where the mysterious woman came from.
"We were fighting against the Risen sent by Grima's forces." the woman answered. "I saw that my precious Robin was in danger and needed my help, I was running to save him and I ended up here."
"Risen?" Bob asked.
"Grima?" Zeri asked.
"I don't know to gently tell you this but you got your butt pulled into a different world." Misty asked.
The woman looked at her surroundings and concluded the same thing. "I can see that... The buildings, I've never seen buildings like this in either Ylisse or Plegia."
"Are those places?" Zeri asked.
"You're catching on quickly, are you the smart one of the group?" the woman complemented, then asked Zeri.
Cassie arched her brow at the woman, obviously NOT liking her attitude.
"What are these 'Risen' that you said earlier?" Misty asked.
"They're humans who died in battle and came back from the dead. You don't know what they are?" Thajra explained, then rhetorically asked with a snarky attitude.
"Well here, we call them zombies." Misty explained. "So, you think those Risen followed you here?"
The woman shrugged her shoulders. "The hell should I know..."
"Are those things we killed called the Risen?" Avan asked.
Cassie shook her head, remembering the phone call she made to Kate earlier. "No, wait!" she interjected, now seeing this is the time to bring up the phone call. "I think these 'Risen' our newfound guest is talking about are a different kind of zombie."
"Excuse me?" the woman asked.
"I was so caught up in the action that I forgot to tell you about the call I made to Kate. Those undead freaks come from Soki's timeline. They're called Genma, demons from another world." Cassie explained.
"Genma?" the woman asked, curious and intrigued.
"Those samurai zombies we've been killing are part of the Genma." Cassie answered. They were interrupted by shots of gunfiring from from the rooftops.
**POW!**
**POW!**
**POW!**
**POW!**
"Incoming!" Erik shouted from his position.
The mysterious woman squinted her eyes and put her hands over her ears, blocking them from a truly offensive sound that she had NEVER even heard before. "Gah, my ears hurt! What the hell are those awful sounds!?"
Everyone still on the street level turned to where Erik was, then saw a large group of Genma soldiers marching in their direction.
**POW!**
**POW!**
**POW!**
"Zeri!" Avan exclaimed.
"I'm on it!" Zeri responded before he ran back to the other side of the defensive parameter.
"Aw, hell yeah! This is the action I've been waiting for." Erik said, aiming his heavy machinegun and firing at any Genma soldier unlucky enough to get in front of him.
**RATATATATATATATATATAT!**
**POW!**
"Save some for me!" Paladin shouted from the roof, then reloading his sniper rifle.
Misty and the others sprinted after Zeri to provide support. The mysterious woman regained her bearings and curiously followed after Misty's group.
"I should go see for myself..." the woman said to herself, enthusiastic about these 'Genma.'
"Defensive positions, everyone!" Avan ordered, joining Zeri and the others in a defensive line. He turned to Coleen. "Fire a rocket at them, then we'll take out anything coming out through the smoke."
"Yeah, got it." Coleen said, still anxious. She stood in front of the defensive line, aimed her lance-like weapon at the incoming Genma soldiers, and fired a rocket in their direction.
**KABOOM!**
Coleen quickly retreated behind the defensive line to reload.
The mysterious woman closed her ears again, this was another NEW sound she was introduced to.
The surviving Genma marched through the smoke and flames continuing their march towards Misty and the others.
"Fire!" Avan ordered.
**RATATATATATATATATAT!**
Avan, Zeri, and the designated fire team kept firing until the ammo ran out. The Genma soldiers moved faster than the others could reload their weapons.
"Bob, help me cover them!" Misty ordered. She got in front of the defensive formation, aimed her prosthetic right hand, and fired a beam of cryogenic energy that froze the large number of Genma in place. Then she aimed her pistol at random frozen Genma.
**POW!**
**POW!**
**POW!**
**POW!**
**POW!**
Misty quickly shattered five Genma soldiers.
Bob advanced further and disposed of the other frozen Genma.
"Cassie, do your thing!" Misty added.
"Right!" Cassie complied, growing her body to the height of 40 meters.
The members of Class G and the mysterious woman stood frozen, in shock, at the towering girl that was Cassie Lang.
In her giant form, Cassie quickly and gently stomped out the rest of the frozen Genma. There were still more (moving) Genma that still needed dealing with.
"Elthunder!" shouted the mysterious woman's voice.
A bolt of lightning hit the ground from above, hitting and electrocuting a group of Genma soldiers. The Genma soldiers dropped to the ground, dead (again), but fried to a crisp. Their bodies disappeared a few seconds later.
Everyone turned their attention towards the mysterious woman who held an open yellow-collored book in her left hand and waving around her right hand.
"Hey, don't look at me." the woman said, annoyed. "You have those 'Genma' to deal with." She motioned with her right hand, signalling them to focus on the Genma and on her.
"Um, thanks." Misty said, casually and nonchalantly. She was used to all the mystical and magical stuff.
Avan, Zeri, Bob, and Coleen stared in awe. This was the first time they have witnessed something that was so awesome.
"This is very common in this world, too." Misty said.
Cassie, still in her giant form, soccer punted any groups of Genma soldiers unfortunate enough to come across her. These Genma soldiers were NOTHING to the size of Cassie's foot.
The mysterious woman looked up at Cassie, impressed and intrigued. "Heh, she'd be an assess to the Sheperds." She then moved forward to get a closer look at these so-called Genma. "They're just like the Risen, but different." the woman noted.
"Coleen, you ready!?" Avan asked.
Coleen nodded, aimed her lance-like weapon, and fired a rocket at another group of Genma soldiers.
**KABOOM!**
Cassie followed up by soccer punting the stragglers who didn't get killed by the explosion.
"Elthunder!" the mysterious woman shouted, sending another lightning bolt from the ground, and killing another group of Genma.
Misty fired another beam of cryogenic energy from her right hand, freezing more Genma soldiers. Bob followed up by dispatching the Genma soldiers with a series of Capoeira-style kicks.
Cassie stomped on and crushed another group of Genma soldiers. She quickly soccer punted another group of Genma soldiers, sending them flying.
"Elthunder!"
Another lightning bolt came from the sky above, hitting another group of Genma soldiers.
Avan and the rest of his team reloaded their weapons and advanced on the remaining Genma soldiers.
"Fire!" Avan commanded.
**RATATATATATATATATATATATATATAT!**
"Elthunder!"
**RATATATATATATATATATATATATATAT!**
"Elthunder!"
**POW!**
**POW!**
**POW!**
**RATATATATATATATATATATATATATAT!**
"Elthunder!"
The ground vibrated again, which signalled yet another incursion.
"Incoming, defensive positions everybody! Nobody attack until I give the say so!" Misty ordered. She turned to the mysterious woman. "No electrocuting anybody unless I give approval, do you understand?"
"Yeah, yeah... I get it, I get it." the mysterious woman responded.
This time it was not a glowing blue orb of energy that appeared and hovered over the street but a portal that formed at ground level.
"What's that?" Avan asked, slowly walking toward the portal.
"Guys, stay back. We don't know who or what's going to come through that portal!" Misty commanded.
Avan stopped and backed away from the portal, heeding Misty's warning. This was a pretty weird day for Class G, too. They appeared in a new world through a blue orb of energy, witnessed a mysterious woman also from another world appear in another blue orb of energy, and now seeing a portal for the first time.
"That thing is called a portal?" Zeri asked.
"Yeah, it's common, depending where you are in this world, for portals to open. We'll save the lesson on portals for another time." Misty explained, now aiming her gun and prosthetic right hand in the direction of the portal.
Avan motioned for Zeri, Coleen, and the fire team members to take up a defensive formation away from the portal.
"I'm going to take a closer look. Cassie, try to maintain that size and keep those Genma at bay." Misty said.
"Yeah, loud and clear." Cassie said, casually and nonchalantly kicking away a group of Genma soldiers.
Misty walked toward the portal until she was three inches away. She looked through the portal and saw that it connected this world to nineteenth century China. "It's nineteenth century China on the other side." she said, surprised.
"What's this China?" Avan asked.
"What is this 'China'?" the mysterious woman asked. She walked closer to the portal, stopping once she got three feet behind Misty, and looked at the portal. "Neither Ylisse nor Plegia, not even Valm, have towns or cities like this..." the woman commented, amazed at the architecture of what was on the opposite end of the portal.
People on the other side of the portal were staring curiously, too.
"Get out of the way!" shouted a man, in Cantonese, on the opposite end of the portal. The people on the other end of the portal cleared the way, revealing a tall and bald man running in the direction of the portal. He was barefoot and pulling a wooden rickshaw.
"Whoa!" Misty exclaimed as she jumped out of the way.
"What the hell is this!?" the man asked, in Cantonese, before running through the portal and into this world.
The bald Chinese man stopped in his tracks, released the rickshaw, then looked behind him, and saw the portal close after.
"Where am I?" the man asked, in Cantonese. He was concerned and tense.
"What's he saying?" Avan asked, not familiar with the man's dialect.
"He's speaking in Cantonese." Bob answered.
"Cantonese?" Zeri asked, getting more and more curious about this world that they're currently in.
"It's a language that's spoken in China, one of the countries in this world." Bob explained.
"Can you speak it?" Zeri asked.
"Yeah, a bit. I learned it from a friend of mine, through his Xing Yi Quan training." Bob answered. "Let me talk to the man, all right! Don't do anything to agitate him, all right?" Bob requested of the group.
Avan got on his radio to reach out to the rest of the squad. "Nobody shoot that man, Bob's going to talk to him."
Bob slowly walked toward the new guest from another universe. The man wore a torn vest and tattered pants. It was obvious that the man was a manual laborer.
"Hey, listen to me." Bob said to the man, in Cantonese.
The bald Chinese man turned to Bob, surprised, that this person spoke the same dialect. "You can understand what I'm saying!?"
"Yes. Please stay calm for what I am about to tell you, all right?" Bob said, holding his hands out to show the man that he came in peace. He turned to Avan, Zeri, and the fire team. "Guys, lower your guns. Misty, do the same."
"Yeah, fine." Misty complied.
Avan motioned for everyone to lower their weapons and allow Bob to resolve this peacefully.
The Chinese man was still apprehensive, understandably, but allowed Bob to speak his part. "Explain." the Chinese man demanded, in Cantonese.
"You're no longer in China, if that's where you're are. You are in the United States of America." Bob explained.
"America?" the man asked, in Cantonese.
"Yes, America. But this is America, in the twenty-first century, at least one-hundred & twenty years in the future." Bob continued explaining.
The bald Chinese man put his hands on his head, obviously shocked and surprised at the news. "I'm in future America?"
"Yeah. My name is Bob." Bob said, introducing himself, and then calmly extending his right hand for a handshake.
The Chinese man slowly and cautiously shook Bob's hand in return. "I'm known as 'Crazy Ghost Kick' back from where I'm from, it's a name I made for myself."
"Ghost Kick, I like it." Bob complimented. He turned to Misty. "We call him by the name of Ghost Kick."
"Ghost Kick, damn, that's badass." Misty said, impressed at the name.
The man known as Ghost Kick looked around, studying his surroundings. He took a look at Misty, Avan, Zeri, the mysterious woman, and then was aghast at seeing Cassie.
Cassie quickly shrunk back down to her normal size which shocked Ghost Kick even more.
"What is she?" Ghost Kick asked, in Cantonese, directing the question to Bob.
"It's complicated, very complicated." Bob answered, in Cantonese. "I don't wish to be rude, but can you fight?"
The Chinese man scoffed. "This is how I got my name!"
Bob smiled and gave a thumbs up. "There are weird looking monsters, people who came back from the dead, who are magically popping up. They're only driven to kill. We have to deal with them."
The Chinese man was silent, thinking about what Bob just told him. He then gave Bob a thumbs up. "Count me in!"
Bob turned to Misty. "He said he'll help us fight the Genma."
Misty then turned to the mysterious woman. "That reminds me, we never got a chance to ask you for your name."
"It's Tharja... How considerate of you to finally come around to asking me." the woman, now known as Tharja, said with a bit of snark in her voice.
"Nice to meet you, Tharja. My name is Misty." Misty said, introducing herself to Tharja.
"My name is Avan." Avan said, introducing himself to Tharja.
"I'm Cassie." Cassie said, introducing herself.
"I'm Zeri." Zeri said, introducing himself.
"Coleen," Coleen said, nervously.
"Bob," Bob said, looking at Tharja.
"I hate to be rude and cut the conversation short, but we should get back to the defensive parameter, where it's safe." Tharja said.
"She's right." Misty said, agreeing with Tharja. "Once the area is properly secured, we should take you to the Sanctum Sanctorum and see Doctor Strange."
"Doctor Strange?" Tharja asked, wincing at the sound of the name. The words 'Doctor' and 'Strange' didn't normally come together, but it was enough to make her curious.
"He's an expert who deals in magic. In this world, he's known as the Sorcerer Supreme."
"Ooooooooooooooooooooooh, Sorcerer Supreme. That sounds VERY interesting." Tharja said. "Sure, I'll check out this Sanctum Sanctorum."
Just when they were about to head back to the defensive parameter, more Genma appeared and surrounded the group. They weren't just the soldiers and the Three-Eyes.
Lizard-like Genma known as the Zaids appeared, too.
"Now they got scaly freaks, too?' Misty asked, astonished and in disbelief.
At the same time, patches of purple miasmic smoke appeared all around. Undead humans came out from the patches of smoke, dressed like Medieval soldiers.
"Wow, the Risen are here?" Tharja asked.
"These are the 'Risen' that you were just talking about?" Misty asked.
"Yeah, but there's no time to talk." Tharja replied, before opening up her yellow book. She eyed one group of Risen and yelled "Elthunder!"
A bolt of lightning came from the sky and hit the Risen, killing them.
"Okay, they're not that different from the Genma." Cassie commented.
"You guys are SERIOUSLY wasting your time debating the difference between the two? I mean undead is undead." Tharja said, with snark and agitation in her voice. It was obvious that Tharja often rubbed people the wrong way.
"Strange is gonna 'love' that snark." Misty joked as she aimed her right hand at some Genma and fired a repulsor blast, sending them flying back a few feet.
Ghost Kick rushed one group of Genma and knocked them down with a jump spin kick, landing on his feet, and stomping on their heads after. The force of the kicks was enough to smash the Genma soldiers' heads in, killing them (again).
Bob watched, impressed at Ghost Kick's kicking skills.
Ghost Kick crouched down and performed his "Irritator" special attack, attacking nearby Genma soldiers with a combo of breakdance kicks. He spun back to his feet and dispatched another Genma with a jump side kick that transitioned into a spinning crescent kick.
Bob whistled.
One of the Three-Eyes launched itself at Tharja, who was about to launch another Elthunder blast.
Ghost Kick quickly intercepted the Three-Eyes and executed his "Pearl Fight" special attack, launching himself upward, feet first, and executing a rising corkscrew kick attack.
The Three-Eyes fell on the ground, stunned.
"Elthunder!" Tharja yelled, aiming at the Three-Eyes that got knocked down by Ghost Kick.
Bob ran at two Three-Eyes, jumped, and hit them with a jumping side-split kick.
**POW!**
The inhuman force of Bob's kick easily killed the two Three-Eyes as they fell on the ground, dead, then disappearing from this world.
Ghost Kick watched in awe and admiration of Bob's kicking prowess.
A horizontal stream of light daggers came flying in the direction of the Genma and Risen, dispatching any that got hit by the daggers.
"Light daggers?" Misty asked.
Misty turned in the direction where the light daggers came from and saw Colleen's group, including Dagger, running toward them.
Colleen, with her katana drawn, swung left and right, taking out all undead or demonic foes standing in their way.
"Misty, are you all right?" Colleen asked, running in Misty's direction.
"Yeah, why the hell you ain't at the rendezvous position?" Misty asked, firing another repulsor blast at a group of Genma soldiers.
"We got word of people being evac'd to the Chinese Community Center." Colleen explained.
Shoma, still with Colleen's group, swung his giant baseball bat at any Genma he came across.
Daehan followed Shoma's lead and attacked a Genma soldier with a jump turning crescent kick.
"Fire!" Avan commanded as he aimed his light machinegun and fired at one of the Genma soldiers standing in front of him.
Zeri moved towards Avan, back-to-back, as they covered each other.
"Thanks!" Avan said, relieved.
"Hey, I can't have you dying on me. Then how am I going to be a hero?" Zeri asked.
Colleen turned to Avan and Zeri, curious about Misty's "new friends."
"They came from another universe, like Bob." Misty explained, then firing a beam of cryogenic energy at a combined group of Genma and Risen. "I'll introduce y'all a little bit later. But we got new zombies to kill, they're called the Risen and they're from her world." she added, pointing to Tharja.
"Fury's going to "love" hearing about these new incursions." Colleen said, sarcastically.
**BOOM!**
Explosions were heard from the opposite end of the defensive parameter, followed by gunfire.
"They're coming from the other side of the parameter!" Avan exclaimed.
"Just when I was hoping the chaos was going to die down." Misty said, annoyed and frustrated. She vented by smashing up the Genma and Risen that she had just frozen with her energy beam.
"We'll have to hold things down here until actual help arrives." Colleen said.
"Just our luck. Avan, take your people back to the other side and reinforce your defenses. The rest of us got things covered here." Misty requested.
"No problem, I'll see you in a little bit." Avan said. He then motioned for Zeri and the other members of Class G to follow him.
"Cassie, Tharja, go with them." Misty added.
"Okay." Cassie said, following Avan and the others.
"Yeah, fine..." Tharja said, following Cassie.
"The rest of you, take out all of these freaks." Misty commanded, then leading the charge.
Colleen and Dagger followed after Misty as if it was just another day on the job.
"Man, Chiaki's going to kill me for being home late." Bob groaned, then following Misty. Ghost Kick, not understanding a word of English, sensed that he needed to follow Bob.
Shoma and Daehan followed after the others.
Red energy shards came raining down from the sky, hitting and dispatching some of the Genma before Misty had a chance to kill them (again).
Misty and the others looked up to see Falcon flying in their direction.
"Hope I didn't miss all the fun." Falcon said, jokingly, as he descended and landed in front of Misty.
Misty smiled, relieved to see Falcon alive. "There's still plenty of 'fun' to be had."
Falcon turned to see the small number of Genma left. "Meh, they're just the stragglers who don't know when the party's over." He then turned his eyes to a couple of new faces. "Who are your friends?"
"Tall dude with the dreads is Bob. The bald guy goes by 'Ghost Kick' but he only knows how to speak in Chinese, but Bob knows how to speak it. The highschool baseball athlete is Shoma and the dude with the metal leg is Daehan. None off them are from our world." Misty explained, then catching her breath.
"Welcome to our world." Falcon said, warmly.
