Christmas had passed and it was now January 1st.
Lucy arrived at the church like she was told to and wore a black dress. She saw wedding bells and guests. Lucy froze as Cuphead told her this was a funeral.
Her body began to shake as she was overwhelmed. She was getting a heart attack.
"Lucy?" Cuphead asked as Lucy's heart condition was damaging her.
"I told you this was a bad idea." Mugman says.
"She said next year." Cuphead says as Mugman facepalmed.
Lucy blacked out and she later woke up in the hospital.
"What happened?" Lucy asked.
"You had a heart attack, sweetie." Charity says. "Are you all right?"
Lucy nods and clings to Charity.
The Fairway students come back after Christmas break to see Luke burning things in the woods. They gasp.
"Hey, not cool!" One student says.
Beau stops them from scolding Luke.
"What was he burning?" Another student asked.
"Birthday cards. Just like one student did 5 years ago." A 3rd student says.
Luke stormed away.
"Did we…hurt his feelings somehow?" A 4th student asked. "I feel like we did."
Lisa explained everything.
All the students had detention and had to make new cards and sign them for Luke. They knew they had forgotten the "Fairway Birthday Fair" tradition, too. That was also why Luke was angry at them.
"Mom, Luna, Savannah and I are going to be in America's Next Hitmaker." Tina says as Charity was looking after Lucy.
"I know that. But I can't go with you." Charity says.
The students begin setting up the fair for Luke. One mistake and Luke would definitely execute the entire school. Luke could do whatever he wanted.
They put up decorations.
Luke was ranting as he stomped all over his dorm room.
4 hours later, the students finished. Lisa was nervous. This birthday tradition was a thing here and she was not informed about it. Beau told her what has been happening here.
Later, Lisa goes to get Luke. Luke was fuming.
"Okay…um, Luke…we have a surprise for you…" Lisa says
"What?!" Luke hissed. "WHAT DO YOU WANT?!"
Lisa took him to the main hall. Confetti fell on Luke.
"Surprise!" The students say.
"What?!" Luke was stunned.
"Happy birthday, Luke!" They say. Luke smiled a bit.
There was a literal fair with rides, games, food, the whole nine yards. Luke was shocked to see this. There was also gifts.
Luke wasn't sure what to do. He just walked off as he was processing all this.
"How come they never told me this years ago when I was a student?" Lori thought in her head.
"Luke, here's your parade gown for your birthday parade." The principal says. Luke screams and looks away with realization washing over his face.
"What's wrong?" Beau asked.
"Beau, I want you to share this day with me. I realize you never even celebrated your 19th birthday back in October." Luke says.
"It's true…my parents and siblings forgot about it. No card, no phone call…nothing." Beau says sadly.
The students had to redecorate for both Luke and Beau. Lisa could see the expression on her boyfriend's face.
Beau was sobbing. And just recently, he found out about his dad dying in a tragic accident.
Lisa holds him. "My sister can give him a proper funeral." Lisa says and knew this was a bad day for a birthday party.
"You tell your sister I'll talk to her later, okay, Lisa Lis?" Beau says.
Lisa nods. "I understand you're still grieving and celebrating is possibly out of the question." She says.
"No, I'll celebrate my birthday. Luke did offer, and I think this might help me be happy, if only for a bit." Beau says.
Lisa nodded and took him to the fair as they decorated. His siblings and mother were there.
"Happy birthday, Beau!" they say.
"Awww, you guys…" Beau says, seeing cards in Korean and Mandarin.
"Hey, Luke's celebrating his birthday again. Mom, you should be there for him" Lola says, mentally shattering Lucy by accident.
"Sweetie, that's a university celebration. The university puts that on for birthdays. I don't have to be there." Charity says, holding Lucy.
"I should have done something…" Lucy sniffed.
"You and I gave Luke the best 3 days of his life, sweetie. You and I made him happy on his 20th birthday." Charity tells her.
"Sorry, I shouldn't have said that." Lola says.
"Lucy forgives you." Lucy says.
"Okay, weird." Lola says.
Beau and Lisa were dancing on stage. Beau was smiling a little. Lisa twirled him around as he giggled a bit.
"I made you a present." Lisa says.
Beau opened it, seeing car keys. "Oh, what are these for?" He asked curiously.
Lisa shows him a space car she made. Everyone gasped as Beau smiled at this.
Lucy sniffed. "I really wanted to celebrate my 18th birthday but…it wasn't important." Lucy says.
"We got you a cake." Lola says.
"But no presents." Lucy sighed. She was starting to accept birthdays slowly. Charity then smiles and gets an idea.
"What if, on the week prior to Luke's 21st birthday week, we give you a party?" Charity asked Lucy.
"Will Luke be mad?" Lucy asked.
"He won't. He's going to get an entire week about him, so he's gonna be too excited about that to be mad." Charity says.
Meanwhile, one student gave Luke a set of Arctic blue golf clubs.
"Thanks!" Luke says.
Another one got him a laptop.
"Sweet, thanks!" Luke says.
Later, Beau sees the food as Luke joins him.
"Having fun?" Luke asked Beau.
He nods as they see the birthday parade.
"Are we supposed to be part of that?" Beau asked.
"It is our day." Luke says as the parade began.
"This is new to me." Beau says.
They go on the float for a bit then play some games.
Beau would then speak to his siblings. Luke smiled as he prepared a highlight reel about Beau. He added the parts about Beau becoming president of the Korean club here at Fairway and the violin recital that the music club put on, where he had five violin solos.
Beau smiled as Luke showed it after the parade. He sheds tears of joy and hugs Luke.
Soon, the piñata was out. The two boys gasped. It looked like a giant golf course.
"Wow!" They both say. They were given their nine-irons. Luke hits it first, then Beau goes next.
Candy falls out as everyone gets their share of it.
"This is amazing!" Beau says.
Lisa smiled, happy for him.
Lucy was still trying to recover from her heart attack. "Cuphead…" Lucy hissed. Lucy was upset.
The lights were out as Beau and Luke looked around.
Soon, it lit up, revealing 2 cakes. One for Luke and one for Beau.
Luke's was Arctic blue velvet and was in the shape of a golf ball. Beau's cake was an organic chocolate cake with homemade icing that had a music theme on it, and it read "Happy Birthday, Beau!" in English, Korean, and Mandarin, all of it written in light blue icing.
Beau was crying tears of joy and he took a few pictures of his cake, smiling.
Lisa lit the candles on both cakes as the two boys smiled and listened to everyone sing for them.
Beau wished for Luke to have a great tour and an even better half birthday in June. And for himself to keep doing great things.
Luke wished for Beau to be happy, for Lucy to feel better, and for a successful Broadway tour.
They both blew out their candles as everyone cheered.
Cuphead smiled, happy for them. He couldn't wait for the fair he and Mugman would have on the last day of university before summer vacation.
"Cuphead, you hurt Lucy." Mugman says.
"I'm sorry." Cuphead says.
