Kieran lifted up the blanket to reveal Spencer sleeping next to him. He quickly jumped out of bed. His thoughts started racing. No way he slept with Spencer last night. He was drunk but was he that drunk? He had his boxers on still so he couldn't have. Right. So many thoughts were buzzing through his head. His head, wow it hurt. He groaned as he searched his room for clothes. He found the shirt he had on last night and it was covered in throw up. What happened? He rubbed his face and then found another shirt in the drawer. It was a basketball shirt from some random camp he went to last summer. He then slipped on a pair of black basketball shorts. He searched for his keys and saw them on the nightstand next to the bed. He grabbed them and walked out the door. The hallway was trashed with empty red solo cups, beer cans, napkins and just trash. He walked down the stairs and saw some people asleep on the different couches. When he walked into the kitchen he found Charlie making a cup of coffee.
"Can I have that?" Kieran asked as Charlie nodded and handed the cup to his friend.
"I can't believe you're awake." Charlie said.
"My parents would kill me if I didn't take the twins to tryouts." Kieran said as he sipped the coffee. "Why are you awake?" He asked.
"My dad called me." Charlie said as Kieran looked up from his coffee.
"Really?" Kieran asked. "What did he say?"
"Same old shit. He won't be home and is extending his trip." Charlie shrugged.
"Damn I'm sorry." Kieran said as Charlie shook his head.
"I don't really care." Charlie lied. All he ever wants is his parents to be home and Kieran knows that.
"Well, do you want to come over to my house tonight? We can play some games." Kieran offered as Charlie nodded. Kieran continued to drink his coffee as Charlie made a new one. He looked around the trashed beach house. "After the twins tryouts, I'll come back and help clean up." He said as Charlie laughed.
"I have the freshmen team coming to clean up." Charlie said as Kieran shook his head with a smile.
"How did you get them to do it?" Kieran laughed.
"I told them they had to if they wanted to be invited to the next party." Charlie said with a smile. Kieran looked at his phone and had a text from Nathan asking if he was on his way. He texted back leaving now.
"Welp gotta go be responsible." Kieran said as Charlie laughed.
"Tell the twins good luck!" Charlie said as he walked over to the couch and sat down. Kieran nodded and then set his cup down in the sink. He walked to the front door and out towards his jeep. He got in his jeep and started to drive towards his uncle's house. His head was killing him, his body hurt and he couldn't shake Spencer asleep in his bed. He pulled up to the house and parked. He texted Keith and Davis that he was there and waited. It was a bright morning in Tree Hill. Kieran rubbed his eyes and searched his jeep for his sunglasses. He found them and put them on as the twins ran out to his jeep. They were both wearing black basketball shorts and blue Raven Hoops shirts. Davis and Keith both ran to the jeep to get to sit in the front. Davis made it there first and as he opened the passenger door Keith pushed him. Davis then pushed him back.
"Hi Kieran!" Davis said loudly as Keith got in the back seat.
"Good morning." Kieran said to both his brothers. He checked to see if they had their seatbelts on and then pulled away from the curb. "Are y'all excited for tryouts?" He asked as they both started talking at the same time. He nodded his head as his brothers talked about what team they wanted to make.
"I think I'll make A team!" Keith said. "I've been practicing all summer! Davis will probably be on the C team." He said as Kieran shook his head.
"I could make A team." Davis stated back to his twin.
"I didn't mean it like that D." Keith said.
"Uncle Nathan practiced with us after school. He said we were both really good, not just you Keith." Davis said as Kieran sat there quietly.
"You always get offended by the things I say." Keith said.
"Well, you are always trying to offend me." Davis said back.
"Not my fault you get your feelings hurt." Keith said.
"Not my fault you try so hard to be Kieran." Davis said as Keith then threw his water bottle at Davis causing Kieran to swerve.
"Knock this shit off." Kieran said angrily. "That's fucking dangerous to throw shit in the car Keith. Be glad I don't feel like talking to dad right now. This crap would get you grounded so fast." He said as he looked at Keith in his rearview mirror.
"Sorry." Davis and Keith said in unison. Kieran groaned and then shook his head. He stayed quiet the rest of the drive while his brothers talked about the tryouts. He pulled up to the middle school and then drove around to the back where the gym entrance was located. He parked his jeep near the front and turned it off. He unbuckled and pulled his phone out as his brothers got out of the jeep. They both stopped and looked at Kieran. Kieth and Davis looked up to Kieran. They loved having an older brother that was the leading scorer at the high school. They both often talked about Kieran and the cool things they watched him do. They both really want to impress him with their skills, but also just in their lives.
"You're coming in to watch us, right?" Keith asked as Kieran took a deep breath in. He was so hungover, but was also lost in his thoughts.
"Please Kieran!" Davis asked as Kieran nodded. He got out of the jeep and followed his brothers inside. The gym was loud with about thirty boys running around dribbling, shooting, and talking. Keith and Davis ran off to separate groups and started to warm up. Kieran looked around to see there weren't many parents who stayed around to watch and there certainly weren't any older brothers watching either. He walked over to the bleachers and walked up a couple rows and then sat down. Kieran had just got comfortable when his phone rang. It was his dad.
"Of course." Kieran huffed as he picked up the phone and before he could talk Lucas already was.
"Morning son! Did you get the boys to tryouts?" Lucas asked as a grouchy Kieran responded.
"Why else would I be up this early?" Kieran said annoyed.
"Lose the attitude." Lucas quickly said as Kieran shook his head. It was 8 am on a Saturday after the first week of school. There was a dance last night, was his dad really that old he didn't remember partying. That's all there is to do in Tree Hill. It's a small town with small town problems.
"Sorry dad." Kieran said, trying not to be grouchy.
"It's fine." Lucas said as he checked his watch. He had to get going soon.
"Was that all you wanted?" Kieran asked.
"No it's not." Lucas said as he brought his thoughts back to the conversation. "There is supposed to be a huge storm tonight. Your mother and I were going to leave late tonight but we decided we will just leave in the morning. You are in charge tonight. I will send a text to your siblings letting them know that we are leaving you in charge for the whole night. There should be plenty of money in your account, so just order pizza. The storm is supposed to go right through Tree Hill so I don't want you or your siblings out tonight. If the storm does turn into a tornado, please make sure you bring everything inside the house. This means all balls, chairs, bikes, and everything else you kids leave out in the backyard." He said as Kieran was barely listening. "Please make sure the house is picked up too. It would be a shame if your mother and I came back to a messy house after it was so clean before we left. Also I don't want a lot of people over tonight. I don't want you driving all over town picking up people and bringing them over. Everyone is staying home tonight." He finished. "Is that clear?" He asked.
"Yes sir." Kieran replied. "Everyone has to stay home. I'm in charge. The house needs to be clean. Annnnnnd bring stuff inside if the storm gets bad." He said. "Ummm if there is a tornado, do we go to your bathroom like normal?" He asked.
"Yes. Do you know where the flashlights and storm kit are?" Lucas asked.
"Ummmm…" Kieran said as he thought. "In the garage?" He asked.
"Yes in the garage under my workbench." Lucas replied. "Well that's everything. I am about to sit in on a lecture at the event for your mom so I will talk to you later. Love you." He said.
"Wait." Kieran said as he heard his dad say yes. "Is mom around?" He asked as Lucas walked into their living room. Brooke was with her assistants.
"Can she call you later?" Lucas asked. "She's a bit busy." He said as he heard Kieran groan. "I've got five minutes. What's up?" He asked.
"It's cool." Kieran sighed. "Bye." He said and then hung up. He started to scroll through TikTok when Jenny walked into the gym.
"KIERAN SCOTT!" Jenny said loudly causing many of the middle schoolers to look up at Kieran. Jake had just started tryouts and looked over at his daughter with a look of knock it off. Jenny went home last night and told her parents all about the break up but of course left out the details. She walked over to Kieran and sat down in front of him. She faced him and looked at him.
"What?" Kieran asked.
"You broke up with Sammie in front of everyone last night." She said, "She was so embarrassed." She added and he laughed.
"Are you kidding me?" He said back. "She broke up with me."
"That's not how I remember it." Jenny said. "She's my best friend and you called her a whore and a slut in front of half the school."
"Well Jenny, as Sammie's best friend you had to have known she was cheating. Right." He stated as Jenny got quiet. "Oooh so you did know." He said as she sighed.
"It's not like that, Kieran." She said back.
"Did you know or not?" He asked. "It's a yes or no answer." She looked down and sighed.
"Yes…" She finally replied. "I knew...but she told me she wasn't sleeping with him. Just hanging out."
"Did you know it was Bryce?" He asked.
"Yes." She said as she shook her head.
"So you mean to tell me the entire time we were in Italy together you just kept this secret to yourself." He stated; then shook his head.
"She made me promise not to tell you." She said with a sigh.
"Cool." He said and then looked back at his phone. "In all the years I've known you I've never kept a secret from you." He lied.
"Kieran." She said and he didn't look up. "Key!" She said as she pushed his arm.
"I really have nothing nice to say to you." He finally said. "And I can't tell you how I'm feeling or what I would like to say to you because your mom is my mom's best friend. Your dad is one of my dad's best friends. Doesn't pan out well for me." He said and then went back to his phone. She sighed and sat there trying to think.
"Did you really have to call her those names?" She asked. "Don't you think she hears them enough at home." She stated as he sighed.
"I'm trying to watch my brothers tryout for basketball." He said and then stood up. He walked away from her and sat on the front row of the bleachers by the bags. She sighed and got up. She followed him and sat down next to him.
"Kieran…" She said as he looked at her. "I'm sorry." She said as he nodded. He didn't say anything. He was trying not to blow up on her. She looked at him and smiled. "Remember when we used to walk these halls?" She asked, trying to get him to talk. He looked at her and nodded. "Please say something to me." She said, looking at him.
"I have a lot on my mind." He said and then watched as his brothers played against each other.
"Like what?" She asked as he groaned.
"Just stuff Jenny. Why can't you leave it at that." He said as he stood up. "Just leave me alone." He said loud enough for the gym to hear. He looked at the court and walked away. He motioned to Keith that he'd be in the car. He walked out to his jeep and got in. He turned it on and put his music on. He crawled into the back seat and laid down. He let out a deep breath and a tear fell down his face. He had so much on his mind. He closed his eyes and thought. 'Why didn't Jason look for me? What if he did and my parents just never told me? Why did I take my anger out on Samantha? So what, she cheated. I didn't need to call her those names. In front of everyone. Jeez I'd hurt someone if they called my sister those names. How am I supposed to talk to my parents about this? My parents. They are going to be so mad. At me? At uncle Nathan? At Geeps? At us all. Fuuuuck. I've done some stupid things but maybe I should have said no. But I wanted to see him. Clark's out. Ha. Clark's out. I look a lot like him. Why didn't Jason look for me…' He trailed off as it really hit him. He wiped his eyes as he laid in the back seat. He heard his phone buzz and picked it up. He had a text from Spencer that asked if they could talk later.
Lily woke up to the noise coming from the hallway. She yawned as she stood up. She was wearing an oversized t-shirt, a pair of cheer shorts and mismatched socks. As she got out of bed to check on the noise, she saw Tanner asleep on the bench that sat by the window. He had made it into a makeshift bed and then crashed. She wrapped her blanket around her and opened the door to see Charlie. He had the Freshmen Men's Basketball team cleaning the halls. She rubbed her eyes as the beach house was getting cleaned. Charlie walked by with a smile.
"How's your head?" Charlie asked with a laugh.
"It hurts." Lily groaned.
"You went wild after the liquor came out last night." He laughed.
"Really?" She asked as he nodded.
"You threw up on Kieran." He laughed.
"Oh my god. No." She said.
"Don't worry it was after everyone was gone." He said.
"What happened?" She asked. "The last thing I remember is taking a shot." She said as he laughed a bit.
"Umm I started to clear the party out an hour after the liquor came out. A lot of people stayed downstairs but they are long gone now. You threw up on Kieran after a shot. It wasn't really vomit, more like spit up." He said. She shook her head and covered her face.
"How embarrassing." She said as he laughed.
"No, this house has seen a lot worse." He said. "Spencer and Jamie were right there with you. They are both still asleep I think." He added.
"What time is it?" She asked.
"Oh like 9 am." He said. "I'm taking Jamie home when he wakes up. He told his parents it was a basketball team bonding thing." He said as she nodded.
"Do you know why Tanner slept on the bench and not the bed?" She asked as he looked at her in a protective way.
"Because I'll fuck him up if he does anything." He joked as she rolled her eyes.
"No seriously…" She said.
"No Lily seriously. I'll fuck him up." He said as she shook her head. "Lily, be glad you aren't waking up wondering who is in your bed." He said with a laugh, as she sighed. "I think he likes you. I also think he is way too smart to ruin his chances with you over one drunk night. Besides you were way too gone. He said that before you took shots." She nodded and then shook her head.
"I think I'm going to go back to bed." She said as was about to turn around.
"Hey did you ever tell Spencer?" He asked as she nodded her head. "What did she say?" He asked.
"She thinks we should go get them." Lily said.
"Are you going too?" He asked as she shrugged.
"I don't know if I want to know what they say." She said as she leaned on the doorframe.
"But what if it answers all the questions you have." He said.
"But what if it leaves me with more questions than answers." She said, "What if I can't handle what's inside the letters?"
"Most people are stronger than they know. They just forget to believe in it sometimes." He said as she smiled. She walked back into her room and laid down on her bed. She closed her eyes and pictured her parents as she fell asleep.
The light shined bright into Lily's eyes. So bright she had to close them. As her eyes adjusted the sun became more clear. Her hair was straight and it blew in the wind. She had a soft pink sundress on. She rotated with the wind as leaves and petals flew past her. The grass was green and soft. There were thousands of flowers around her in the meadow. This was her happy place. Somebody told me that this is the place where everything's better and everything's safe. She took a deep breath in and as she let it out she heard noises behind her. She turned and two figures were walking up to her. It was her parents. Keith was wearing a white button down shirt untucked and a pair of jeans. Karen was wearing a white dress that blew in the wind.
"Mom. Dad." Lily said as she ran to them. She was greeted with the warmest and safest hug she had ever experienced. She let out a huge sigh of relief. She didn't want to let go. She released the hug and looked at her parents. Tears streamed down her face.
"You're so grown up." Keith said as Lily smiled through her tears.
"Yeah that's what kinda happens after fifteen years." Lily laughed as she looked at both of her parents. "I have so many questions but I don't think I have the time." She said as the sun started to set. She tried to ask questions but could no longer talk. She watched the figures walk along the lilies. She followed them. "Don't leave me." She called out.
"We never left you honey." Karen called back.
"Look among the lilies." Keith called out. The figures disappeared into the sunset. She smiled as she watched them walk away. She heard 'We love you Lily,' as the sun disappeared. She was now sitting in a dark meadow and heard noises in the back. A loud bang could be heard. Sounds of a gun. A scream as loud as a siren followed. A beeping fading into the distance. A loud shout came echoing through the meadow. She made out the voice of Lucas as he shouted 'mom.' The beep stopped. It was quiet. A cry came out. 'Lily.' The beeping is now gone. A baby cries.
Lily was quickly awoken by a crash in the house. Tanner jumped up and looked over at Lily.
"I was having the most amazing dream." Tanner said as Lily laughed in a strange way.
"Me too." Lily said as they walked to the hall. They ran down the stairs with Jamie and Spencer behind them. Charlie was sitting on the living room couch watching TV and turned around to see them. "What was that?" She asked.
"Oh that loud noise?" Charlie asked as everyone looked at him. "I threw the rest of the trash off the back balcony. Had a lot of glass in it." He said. "But now that everyone is awake. How do we feel about getting some brunch?" He asked as everyone groaned. "I got the whole house cleaned before any of you were awake. All I get is this groaning…"
"What time is it anyways?" Tanner asked as he looked around for a clock.
"Almost 11." Charlie said as Tanner shot up.
"I'm going to be late, I have to go." Tanner said as he ran up the stairs to where his stuff was. Lily followed him up the stairs and into the room.
"Late for what?" Lily asked.
"During the school year I work at my parents place every Saturday from eleven to six." Tanner said as he put his jeans on. "I also work there when I'm grounded." He laughed as he slipped his shirt over his head. He collected his things. He smiled at her and then kissed her cheek. "Do you want to come over for dinner at my house this week? Or maybe out to dinner just the two of us?" He asked as she tilted her head.
"Did you just ask me out?" She giggled.
"Well you begged me all night to just grow a pair and ask you out." He laughed as she covered her mouth.
"No I didn't." She said as he nodded his head with a laugh.
"Oh yes you did." He said. "It was pretty cute though." He smiled.
"Thanks…" She laughed.
"But dinner. This week, what do you think?" He asked as they started walking down the stairs.
"Yeah! Of course!" She said with a smile. They got to the front door and he kissed her again on the other cheek.
"Awesome! I look forward to it! I'll text you." He said with a smile. He then ran out to his truck, got in, and drove off. She watched him drive off and then shut the door. She walked back to the living room and Spencer looked at her.
"Are you down to get breakfast?" Spencer asked. "Charlie will take us." She said as Charlie nodded.
"I don't have anything better to do." Charlie shrugged. "Plus I love you little fishys." He said with a smile.
"This has nothing to do with Heather ignoring you all night?" Lily asked with a laugh.
"Shut up." Charlie said as he laughed.
"I'm gonna go get dressed." Lily said as Spencer agreed. They walked up the stairs and into Lily's room.
"Confession time?" Spencer said with an uneasy smile.
"Oh no what did you do?" Lily asked as she started to get dressed. She put on a pair of black Nike fleece jogger pants and a white crop t-shirt with a yellow smiley face. "Spence what did you do?" She asked.
"Please don't be mad. I know nothing happened! I'm sure!" Spencer started as she started to change. She was putting a pair of black leggings on and a sweatshirt that read 'New Brunswick Regional Medical Center,' the hospital where her father is the lead trauma surgeon.
"Okay I promise." Lily said.
"I fell asleep in Kieran's bed last night." Spencer blurted out. Lily's mouth dropped. "Nothing happened. I promise!" She said as she waited for her best friend to respond. Lily sat down on the bed and then looked at Spencer.
"Nothing happened?" Lily asked.
"Promise!" Spencer said.
"Then why did you fall asleep in there?" Lily asked.
"We just ended up talking most of the night. He was really drunk and just kept talking about stuff. I promise you nothing happened. He was just sad because of the Sam thing and some other things..." Spencer said as Lily sat there. "I wanted to tell you before you heard it from someone. I didn't want you to think I was keeping a secret from you!" She said as Lily nodded.
"Well if you say nothing happened, then nothing happened." Lily said as she nodded at her. Spencer sighed.
"I'm sorry." Spencer said as she looked down at her feet. "We just got to talking and I guess I fell asleep."
"Okay. I don't really want to know." Lily laughed. "Just be careful around Kieran."
"Do you want to come over today?" Spencer asked.
"Or do you want to go spy on Tanner at work?" Lily asked with a smirk.
"Or do you want to go get the letters?" Spencer said.
"Spencer, I told you I don't know if I can handle what's inside the letters." Lily said and Spencer sighed.
"I think you're making a mistake. Why would Karen have written the letters to you in the first place?" Spencer asked.
"Well why didn't she tell my dad about them?" Lily asked. "If they were so important why doesn't Lucas know they exist. Why didn't she tell her son that she was sick!" She stated as Spencer sighed.
"I don't know why." Spencer said frustrated as the door opened. "But if it was me, I'd go get the letters from my dead mom." She said as Lily rolled her eyes.
"You just want me to go get the letters because you miss your mom." Lily said as Spencer nodded her head. Spencer turned and walked out of the room. Charlie moved out of her way and watched her walk down the stairs. He then looked over at Lily.
"That was a little rude Lil." Charlie said as Lily rolled her eyes.
"I don't care." She said sharply back at him. He was a little thrown back about her attitude. He's known Lily since she was four and has always seen her like a little sister.
"The fuck did I do to you?" He said as she walked by him.
"Let's just go get brunch." She said as he grabbed her arm to stop her. She turned around and looked at him. "What." She stated.
"What is your problem?" He asked. "Spencer just wants to help you. I just want to help you. Hell if you told Kieran, he would want to go get the letters too. You need to check yourself, Lily." He said as he shook his head. He followed her down the stairs. Spencer and Jamie were talking while Lily was standing in the kitchen. "Everyone ready to go?" He asked as they all nodded. They followed him out to his truck and all got in. Spencer and Lily sat next to each other in the back seat and started talking while Charlie drove. Jamie was silent because he felt so gross. They got to Karen's Cafe and parked. They walked inside and then up the stairs they went to the patio. They had the whole view of Tree Hill. The greatest view.
Lucas walked into the coffee shop a block off of Times Square. As he waited in line he checked his email on his phone. He had an email from the school informing him that Lily had lunch detention for making TikToks in a bathroom during class. He laughed to himself and then rolled his eyes as he continued scrolling through his emails. He had an email from a teacher at the high school informing him that one of his players was missing in class. He continued reading and learned that it was Kieran that was missing from a couple morning classes. He was a bit confused since he knew Kieran wouldn't skip class in general. Maybe there was an appointment he forgot about or maybe he was in the nurse's office. He shrugged it off as he got to the front of the line. He ordered his coffee and then stood off to the side as it was being made. His order came up and he grabbed it. He thanked the barista and then headed out the front door. As he turned out from the door a woman collided with him causing him to drop one coffee and spill the other on his shirt.
"I am so sorry!" The woman said as she picked up the empty coffee cup.
"It's okay." Lucas said as the woman gathered the cup up.
"Please let me buy you two more coffees." The woman said as she fully stood up. Lucas was shocked to see that it was Lindsey, his ex-fiance that he hadn't seen since they broke up. "Lucas." She said as she placed the coffee cup in a nearby trash can. Lucas did the same to the cup he was still holding.
"Hi Lindsey." Lucas said with a smile. "You don't have to worry about the coffee. It's okay." He said as she shook her head.
"No, I insist." She said as she opened the door to the coffee shop. Lucas quickly put his hand on the door and held it open for Lindsey. They walked inside and stood in line together.
"How have you been?" He asked as she smiled.
"Great!" She said as he nodded, hoping she would say more. "How about you? You have a new book coming out soon! That's so exciting." She said as he nodded.
"Yeah that's one of the reasons we are in the city this weekend. I've been doing some marketing with my agent, plus Brooke's new line is launching." Lucas said as a girl similar in the twins age walked up to them in line.
"Mom are you almost done?" The girl asked.
"Mom?" Lucas asked as he looked at Lindsey.
"Lucas, this is my daughter Penny. Penny, this is an old friend of mine, Lucas." Lindsey said as Penny waved at Lucas and then looked at her mom. "I thought we were going to the movies." She said as Lindsey nodded.
"Just a moment. I'll meet you outside in five minutes." Lindsey said as Lucas was staring at the child. She had dirty blonde hair, sparkly blue eyes, and she was even carrying a book. He watched her walk away and then looked back at Lindsey.
"I had no idea you got married." Lucas said as Lindsey laughed.
"Nope, just knocked up." Lindsey said with a half smile. "It's just Penny and me." She said as he nodded.
"How old is she?" He asked.
"Eleven." She replied. Thoughts started racing through his head. He was about to say something and then Lindsey got to the front of the line and ordered. They stood there in awkward silence while waiting for the coffee. Finally Lucas broke the silence.
"Where's her dad?" He asked.
"That's a pretty personal question Lucas." She said.
"Is that my kid?" He asked
"It would be a very Scott thing to do." She laughed.
"This isn't funny." He stated. "Am I her father?" He asked again.
"No. Don't you think I would have called you?" She asked.
"No." He stated back.
"Glad to know you're always looking for the worst in me." She said as her name was called for the coffee. She grabbed them and handed him his two. "Great time catching up, let's never do this again." She said and then turned around and walked away. He stood there questioning if he was in a dream. His train of thought was interrupted by his phone ringing. He arranged the drinks in his hand and reached for his phone in his pocket. Brooke was calling him, probably wondering where he was. He answered the phone.
"Honey, where are you?" Brooke asked.
"Almost back. There was a coffee mishap." Lucas replied.
"Well hurry. We are all ready to go. Please tell me you are ready too?" She asked as he looked down at his coffee covered shirt.
"I was." He said. He looked behind him to see if he could see Lindsey walking away. He couldn't, but she saw him.
Lily looked out her window. The wind was blowing and the storm behind it was a nasty one. The house was quiet because her brothers were out getting pizza. She watched as the tree branches outside her window blew. She used to think it was a monster scratching on her window at night. The memory made her laugh. She got up from her window seat bench and walked to her nightstand. She pulled out the letter from Dan and read it again. This letter was so important to her, and she felt bad for feeling this way. A letter from the man who took her father away from her. She sighed. She put the letter back in her drawer as she heard Kieran call out from downstairs that the pizza was here. She walked out of her room and down the stairs. Her brothers were grabbing their slices as they watched the TV from the living room. Duke was playing tonight. She walked into the kitchen and grabbed two slices of pizza.
"We're going to watch the game. Want to join?" Davis asked his sister with a smile.
"That's a hard pass." Lily stated. "I'm going to watch movies in my room all night long." She said as Davis shrugged.
"It's the big game." Keith said.
"Enjoy." She said back. She grabbed a lemonade out of the refrigerator and a couple other snacks out of the pantry. She was walking to the stairs when Kieran decided to pipe up.
"Don't spill. Mom and dad will kill you." Kieran shouted out.
"Oh my god Kieran. Shut up." She said as she walked up the stairs. Davis and Keith sat down in the living room with their older brother.
"Jeez why is she always so mean." Keith said.
"Mom said we aren't allowed to ask that." Davis said as Kieran laughed.
"That's just how girls are. She's not always bitchy." Kieran said as they continued to watch the game. Lily got to her room and walked in. She set her food down on her desk and turned on her TV. She ate her dinner and continued to think. She let out a huge sigh and then perked up. 'What am I doing. I need those letters. Why don't I want them. Why haven't I broken down the walls to get to these letters. They are the last thing my mom ever did. I bet I would get to know her, in my own way.' She stood up and walked to her closet. "I'm going to do this! I'm getting those letters." She looked through her hoodies and put on a dark black hoodie. She was wearing pjs and now a black hoodie with black leggings and a pair of tennis shoes. She opened her door and walked down stairs. She grabbed Teddy's leash and was putting it on him when Kieran walked into the kitchen.
"Where are you going?" Kieran asked.
"Well I want to take Teddy on a walk before the storm starts." Lily said.
"I already took him. If you go now you'll be out in the middle of the storm." He said.
"Oh my god Kieran. Just because mom and dad are out of town doesn't mean you have to act like them too." She said as she rolled her eyes.
"Lily mom and dad would kill me, then you." He said. "If it wasn't a crazy storm then it would be different, but we could lose power. The wind is super strong. It's going to be bad outside. You could get hurt if the wind blew something." He said as he took the leash off Teddy. Teddy ran into the living room to sit with the twins.
"Whatever." Lily said as she walked back to the staircase and then up it. She walked back to her room and shut the door. She sat on her bed and crossed her arms. She decided to leave. She opened up her balcony door and walked outside. Just like her mom had done in high school, she climbed down the side and headed towards Keith's Body Shop. The storm was blowing in hard as the wind pushed Lily forward. The rain started to pour and she began to walk faster. She came up to the street and stared at the body shop. She had never gone inside. She didn't want to either. She took a deep breath and let it out. She then walked up to the door with a bolt on it. She pulled out the key from her father's keychain and unlocked it. The chain fell on the ground and Lily dropped the lock on top of it. She pushed open the rusty door and walked inside. It was dark. She flipped the switch and nothing. She pulled out her phone and turned on the flashlight. She waved it all around the shop. There wasn't much left. Just some old dirty rags, oil pans, and tire cleaner. She then saw the small office that Dan referred to in his letter. She walked over to it just as her phone popped up with a 5% battery warning. Her flashlight turned off to say battery. She tried to get it back on but couldn't. She sighed as the room was very dark. She used the light from her home screen to look around for something to use. She came across a very old package of cigarettes. Inside there were a couple left with a lighter. She then was able to locate a couple of candles. She started to light the candles and the room had a soft glow. She put the cigarettes into her pocket and walked over to the desk. She sat down in the chair and she had never felt closer to Keith than at this very moment. She smiled and then looked at the desk. "If I was a letter, where would I hide…" She said as she started searching through the desk. She got to the last drawer and couldn't open it. She kept pulling and then gave up. It was an old desk and needed to have the middle drawer open to open the locked one. She opened the middle drawer to search for a key and noticed that it had some tension on it when she opened it, sort of like Lucas' desk in his office at the school. She then tried to open the locked drawer and it opened. At first she didn't see anything except some old car parts boxes. She sighed as she pulled them out. She came across a small green tool box. When she picked it up she heard something slide around inside of it. She set it down on the desk and opened it. "Oh my god. These are the letters!" She said as she was looking at a box full of letters. She couldn't believe that they were real. She was so shocked. She started flipping through them. There must be over 100 letters she thought to herself. On the front of each letter read 'To my daughter' in Karen's handwriting. She picked one up and when the envelope closed it had written "I'm sorry." She started flipping through other letters and they all had something different written on the envelopes. She sat there as a loud roar of thunder shook the building. A bolt of lighting lit up the sky causing Lily to look out the window. The storm was strong. She looked back at the box and put the letter in her hand. She closed the box with a smile. A little part of her mom was in the box. She couldn't wait to read them all. She started to get up and heard something fall from behind her. She quickly turned and saw a figure walking through the shop. She gulped as the figure came closer to the doorframe. The glow from the candles was bright enough for her to make out a face so she grabbed the wrench that was sitting on the desk. Just as she was getting ready to throw it the figure became clear. It was Charlie. "What the hell Charlie!" Lily said as Charlie put his hands up.
"Were you going to throw that at me?" Charlie asked.
"Yes I didn't know who was coming in." She laughed as she set it down. He laughed and then noticed the green box.
"Is that it?" He asked.
"Yeah." She said as she looked at it.
"Worth it?" He asked.
"100%!" She said with a smile.
"So this is Keith's Body Shop." He said as he shined his light around the room. She nodded and grabbed a candle that she hadn't lit. She walked with it into the main shop and lit it. She set it on top of some boxes and looked around.
"I bet this was a great place. My dad talks about it all the time." She said as he nodded.
"And you really have never been here before?" He asked.
"No." She sighed. "Lucas gave me the option when I was eleven to go explore it but I just didn't want to. I had just discovered what happened to my dad." She said as she looked around the shop. She would have grown up coming to this place every day, and then running down the street to her mom's cafe. She felt a bit robbed. She knows she has a great life, but she still couldn't help but feel robbed of the life she was meant to have. She wiped her eyes and Charlie sighed. He walked over to her and wrapped his arms around her for a hug. She smiled and then looked at him. "Why are you here?" She asked. He laughed.
"I wasn't following you." He laughed. "I was actually driving over to your house and I saw the candle glow from the street. I figured you were doing this." He said with a smile. "Did you walk here?" He asked as another roar of thunder shook the entire building.
"Yes please." She laughed. He looked her up and down and her hair was still drenched from the rain. She walked back to the office and grabbed the box. She then blew out one of the candles she had lit, but forgot the rest. She walked out of the office just as a bolt of lighting struck the power line and they watched the lights outside go out. They looked at each other and headed to Charlie's truck quickly. He unlocked it as they both got in.
"Do you think the power is out all over town?" He asked as he started driving towards her house.
"If it is, I'm screwed." Lily laughed.
"Why?" He asked.
"Kieran." She laughed. "I think my dad has been riding him for a while and if anything goes wrong this weekend I think he will get blamed."
"He's gonna know you left if you walk in with me." He said as he pulled up to the Scott's. There were still lights on so they hadn't lost power yet.
"Will you distract him?" She asked. "I don't really want to climb up with the box too." She said as he nodded.
"How are you going to get inside?" He asked.
"Backdoor by the stairs." She said as he nodded. He watched her walk around the house as he walked to the front door. He knocked on the door and Kieran opened it.
"Dude, what took you so long?" Kieran asked as he welcomed him inside. They walked to the living room and Kieran was rewinding the clip from the game. Charlie was watching Lily open the back door and ran up the stairs. Lily rinsed off in the shower and then put on a hoodie and a pair of shorts. She walked downstairs and into the living room.
"Done pouting?" Kieran asked as Lily rolled her eyes. He laughed and then continued watching the game. A big roar of thunder came through and a huge crack of lighting lit up the sky. Then it was completely dark. Keith and Davis turned to Kieran.
"What do we do?" Keith asked.
"Wait for it to come back on." Kieran laughed as he walked out to the garage to get the flashlight.
"Ughhh this is going to be so boring." Davis said as he groaned. He looked at his twin and then over at Lily. "I'm going to my room." He said.
"Your dark room?" She asked.
"Well it is 11, mom and dad would be mad if I was still awake." Davis said and then headed up the stairs with the flashlight on the phone on. Lily looked over at Keith and he shrugged.
"What mom and dad don't know won't hurt them." Keith said with a laugh.
"You got that right!" She said looking at Charlie. Kieran walked back inside and was on the phone.
"Yes dad. I got the light out of the garage. If they are sleeping, why would I put a lamp in their room?" He said annoyed as he looked over at Keith, he mouthed bed and Keith shrugged. "Yes sir I will lose the attitude. Yes sir. Yes sir. Yes sir." He said and then hung up the phone. "Keith, you gotta go to bed. It's way past your bedtime." He said.
"But it's not like mom and dad will know." Keith argued.
"Dude I'm not going to be grounded because you didn't go to bed on time. I'm already in trouble." Kieran said as Keith nodded.
"Can we go to the rivercourt tomorrow morning?" Keith asked as he walked to the stairs.
"Sure can!" Kieran said as he handed a camping lamp to Keith. "Can you put this lamp in the bathroom and turn it on?" He asked as Keith nodded.
"Good night!" Keith said as he ran up the stairs. Kieran watched him and then turned to his friend and sister.
"I did find something else in the garage." KIeran smirked as he pulled out a bottle of fireball. "Wanna take shots?" He asked. The teenagers nodded and walked to the living room. Kieran set up the lamp to provide light. Charlie sat down next to Kieran and Lily sat down on the other part of the sectional. Kieran opened the bottle and started drinking from it. He then passed to Charlie.
"What did you mean by you are already in trouble?" Lily asked as Kieran looked down.
"I did something kind of stupid yesterday." Kieran said. Charlie handed the bottle to Lily and she drank from it.
"If you are talking about waking up in bed with Spencer, she already told me." Lily said. "Nothing happened." She said and then handed him the bottle.
"It wasn't that." He said as he cleared his throat. "Uncle Nathan took me out of school on Friday, and we drove up to where Clark was locked up. I watched him be freed." He said as the other two were staring at him. They couldn't believe what he was saying. They continued talking until all three passed out. They were awoken the next morning to the news channel.
"Tragedy struck Tree Hill last night during the storm. We are sad to say that Keith's Motor Shop went up in flames late in the night. Nothing but the structure was left. Investigators have yet to determine the cause of the fire." The report said. Kieran was shocked when he heard this news. Charlie looked over at Lily and her expercession wasn't shock but guilt.
