An Experiment Gone Wrong
Chapter I: Lucerene Tower
It was dark in New York City, and raining, it always was. The seemingly endless night and downpour were both results of Humanity at work, as well as atmospheric conditions being toyed with in certain areas. Namely New York. Among the massive skyscrapers and endless buildings, one towered above the rest, Lucerene Tower. At 109 floors, including 3 underground floors, and home to one of the top provider of military technology and medical sciences, dataDyne, Lucerene Tower was very impressive. It was also home to Cassandra De Vries, the evil Iron Bitch situated at the top of the corporate ladder, she ruled with an iron fist.
Lucerene Tower also housed a small army of guards, all armed with the latest in dataDyne weaponry technology, the CMP-150. It had to be guarded constantly, for it held within its basement laboratories some of the greatest achievements of the century...so far. Such as the freshly constructed experimental AI or Artificial Intelligence, Dr. Carroll. Among other things, new weaponry and shielding technology. But recently, something had arrived, something secret, something dark. Something that no one spoke about, only rumors of it were whispered in dark corners. But yes, the dataDyne corporation had it going well for themselves...for now.
John Roberts strolled along in the darkness as rain poured down his grey overcoat. John was a guard for dataDyne and proud of it, he found his job quite fulfilling. He got paid a bundle, he got to carry a gun, he got a place to sleep inside the tower, and all he had to do was walk around and sit on his ass. Currently, he was coming back from his one hour period that he got off during the night. Every guard got off one hour a day, depending what shift they were on. John's shift was from noon to six, currently it was around ten o'clock. John approached the massive tower and looked up at it, studying it.
Large neon lights in bright, electric blue proclaimed the massive dataDyne symbol on the front of the tower, as well as many other areas. As John entered the main lobby, getting a quick retina scan, he contemplated for a moment the usefulness of his job. When at first he had been hired, six months ago, for the first month it had been quite boring. He was about ready to quit when the action came, a spy from a place called Carrington Institute had infiltrated the tower. He had been a man of great stature, with skills in weaponry, stealth and every other thing. At least half the guard population had been killed, John had been among the wounded.
But they finally pulled the bastard down through a combination of bullet wounds and eventually a gas grenade that had knocked him out. He was held down in a cell built especially for spies, apparently dD had had many problems similar to this before. But, two days after the spy's capture, another one again infiltrated the tower and rescued the other one. John had again been wounded and Cassandra had never let him or the others hear the end of the whole fiasco. John entered the elevator of the lobby and pressed one of the many buttons, there were over a hundred floors in the tower. The elevator door silently slid shut and it began to rumble upwards towards its destination. As this happened, John continued to ponder his job.
