Chapter II: The Basements

Below the seemingly calm surface of the massive Lucerene Tower, it was quite another story. Security was much tighter, guards were trained much more heavily for all sorts of situations and were forced to stand ready and alert their entire shift. It was quite a maddening job for those who had to stand around. These guards carried CMP-150s as well as Falcon 2 pistols, a powerful sidearm with a laser scope stolen from dataDyne's rival, Carrington Institute. Security had been allowed to slack off a bit during earlier times, before the attempted break in by one of Carrington Institute's top agents, and it had been upgraded then.

But now it was even more heavy, something new had arrived, something that had the entire scientist population abuzz with excitement. And whatever it was, it could not fall into the hands of the enemy. For if it did...there would be dire consequences.

Alexander Rockwell, a genius scientist for his young age of twenty-one, looked about one of the few laboratories of dD. It was in tip top shape, as clean as a whistle, bristling with top of the line technology gathered from around the world. Weapon tech and medical science, mostly created but sometimes stolen from lesser companies before they managed to get it out into the open market, were produced from these labs. Alexander strolled along through the large pieces of equipment and studied each one of them. Things were going well, everyone busy at work, and right now, Alexander was not needed for the moment.

He finally came to a single row of tubes, meshed into the wall with a number of much, much smaller tubes running in and out of the larger ones. The tube was nearly eight feet tall and two feet wide, and what was inside was just big enough to fit those dimensions. What was inside was the end result of a request from dataDyne to their bizarre allies in space, the notorious Skedar. Not much was known about the Skedar, but they were a powerful and ancient race who had been at war with a race just as old and just as powerful as they. They looked down upon humans as a pitiful and weak race to be disregarded, but there was something on Earth that they wanted.

And that's what had led to the alliance between dataDyne and the Skedar empire. dataDyne had large political power and could most like get the Skedar what they wanted and the Skedar helped dataDyne along with its technology now and again. Recently, the scientists had asked for a sample of Skedar DNA, to study and eventually improve upon. The idea was to attempt to create an even more powerful Skedar warrior. It would be larger, stronger and quicker then most Skedar, and would be completely obedient. This would most likely give the Skedar an upper hand in the war with their enemies.

So, the Skedar had agreed, and now the scientists were attempting to produce this new Skedar warrior. Currently, there were thirty eight subjects, all being grown and studied in the six different labs down in the basements of dataDyne. Hopefully, these studies would bring great fruits to bear from the scientists' labor, and the Skedar would reward them greatly with more weapons technology and whatnot. Alex suddenly was ripped out of his contemplation as he thought he saw the subject stir slightly. That was impossible, the subjects were not supposed to awaken or even move at all. And suddenly, the creature's eyes flared open.
