Chapter 1: Claws
There has been a lot of pain in Jason's life, both emotional and physical. The currant beating he's going through is probably the worst pain that he's experienced.
Recently, Jason discovered that his mother, who he long thought dead, was actually alive. It hurt him that his mentor and father figure, Bruce Wayne aka Batman, already knew this and kept it from him. Disobeying Bruce, Jason went to an area around Switzerland/Canada to reunite with his mom. it was a happy and tearful reunion.
That is until Joker appeared with his thugs. They took Jason and his mother, Catherine, to an abandoned warehouse just outside a desolate town, on a snow covered mountain. Catherine was held down by the goons, forced to watch as Joker hit a cuffed Jason with a crowbar repeatedly.
Jason tried to get up and defend himself, the Joker let him. When he got to his knees, Joker whacked him across the face with the crowbar, sending him back to the ground.
"Wow, that looked like it hurt", Joker said with false concern. Samiling, he hit Jason three more times in the ribs area. "Now hang on, that looked like it hurt a lot more", Joker continues. Catherine tried to look away as she cried.
"Let's try and clear this up, okay pumpkin", Joker said, "what hurts more?" His twisted grin seemed to widen, "A...", hitting Jason in the chest, "or B?", before his stomach. Catherine was begging for Joker to stop but went unheard.
"Forehand...", Joker continued with a blow to Jason's left, "or Backhand?", hitting his right ribs. Joker tilted his head back with a sinister cackle.
Jason looked up to Joker and mumbled something. Joker leaned down close with a hand to his ear, "a little louder lambchop'. Grabbing the back of Jason's head, he continued, "you may have a collapsed lung, that always impedes the ovitory".
Joker lifted hid head up and Jason took this time to spit some blood across Joker's face. Joker's response was to slam Jason's head on the concrete ground. "Now that was rude," Joker states as he wiped the blood off with a white handkerchief, "the first boy blunder had some manners".
Jason chuckled a little and showed a bloody smile. "I suppose I'll have to teach you lesson so you can better follow in his footsteps," he seemed to mull this over for a moment, "nah, I'm just going to continue beating you with this crowbar". Smiling, Joker lift the crowbar for another swing.
Miles away
A custom black motorcycle zoomed down a snow covered road. The Batman was pushing it to its maximum speed to get to Jason and Catherine in time.
Over the comms, he heard Nightwing on the line, "Batman, we're on the way to the location". "How far out are you", he questioned. "About Ten minutes out", he replied with a solemn tone.
'Damn!', Batman thought before hitting the nitro, uncaring for his own safety.
Back at the Warehouse
Joker sighed, having finished beating Robin. "Well then champ," Joker says to Jason as he put on a grey winter coat, "Its been fun but I best leave now". He then looked to the four cronies that were with him and states, "Kill the woman and quick, I doubt you want to miss the flight back to Gotham". Stepping out the only door, Joker turned back to Jason and said "and kid, tell the big man I said, 'Hello'", putting up his hood with a massive grin before closing the door behind him.
"You heard him boys", the tallest started, "I'm not sure about ou, but I want to be out of here before the Bat shows up".
Seeing the henchmen heading for his mother with intent to kill, Jason attempted to get up to stop them, but fell over due to pain. Catherine looked to Jason as the shorter thug held her down as the fat one aimed a gun to her head.
"Jason...", was all she got out before the gun went off
BLAM!!! The shot taking a portion of her skull off.
"Damn that's messy," the short thug says. "What about him?", the muscular one asked, referring to the wide-eyed Jason.
"Leave him, boss only said the redhead and I don't want to find out what happens if Robin dies", the tall thug states as they head for the door.
'I lost her', Jason thought, while looking at his mother's dead body, ' I find out she's alive and see her again, only to watch her die'. He then began to get angry, and pulled at his cuffs with new found strength. 'Joker and his men killed her', blood was seeping from his wrists as the cuffs strained, 'and they'll just continued on with their lives as if she didn't matter', the cuffs break as each of Jason's hands had three claws burst from between his knuckles, spurting blood.
The thugs heard the cuffs break just before reaching the door. Turning to the source of the noise, they see the beaten and bloody Robin glaring at them with a burning fury. he stalked towards them with his hands raising up, sporting his new claws.
Before they could do anything, Jason jumped forward and stabbed his claws into the short ones chest. "Holy Shit!", the fat one yelled. The now dead thug fell from his claws. The tall one went to shoot him, but the feral teen swiped the claws at his hands, causing him to drop the gun and for it to go off, hitting the colored thug in his leg. Jason then slashed the tall one's throat before stabbing the downed thug's head.
While Jason was dealing with the two thugs, the fat one went to rush out the door, but when he tried to open the door, it wouldn't budge though. "What the... Boss?", the fat one states before banging on the door, "Boss!!?". Next thing he knew Jason stabbed both sets of claws into his back, piercing his heart and lungs.
With all the thugs now dead, Jason started to calm down from his berserker rage. He then looked down to his claws. though stained with blood, he could tell they were made from bone. They were smooth and rounded, but were sharper than a batarang.
Turning around, Jason looked to his mother's remains. Although a portion of her head was missing, her face was undamaged. Her lifeless eyes staring into nothingness. Jason went over to her, closed her eyes and covered her with his tattered cape. He took note that his claws were gone, no evidence showing they were ever there.
Jason then heard a ticking sound. Looking to where it was coming from, he was a bomb on a crate. He could tell it could destroy the warehouse and very well anything inside.
He could defuse it, but he might not have enough time. He could just escape, but he didn't want to leave his mother behind.
There was only ten seconds left.
He gritted his teeth before rushing to the bomb. Jason didn't care for himself, his mother deserved more in his eyes.
Outside the warehouse
Batman and Young Justice were nearly there. The team of young heroes were bringing in the Bioship as Batman rode up a hill. Reaching the plateau the warehouse was on, Batman jumped from his bike and ran to the door while some of the teen heroes jumped from the Bioship before landing. Before they could get very far though...
KABOOM!!!
Batman and the team were sent flying to the ground while the bioship was destabilized by the explosion.
Quickly getting back up and then gazed at the destroyed building that held Robin. After a moment of silence not even breathing, the group rushed into the destruction.
The walls and roof of the warehouse was now just burning debri, the concrete floor undamage but burnt and sooty.
Four bodies laid bloody and burnt near the entrance. None of them appeared to have the same build as Robin. They also appeared to have been killed before the blast by blades of some kind.
After a long while of searching the wreckage, all they could find was Catherine Todd covered with Robin's cape. It's special material protecting the body from the blast. Jason was nowhere to be found. Batman feared something worst happened and wanted to double check everything.
Little did they know, Jason was no longer near the warehouse. Unlike the others, he was sent flying out of th warehouse and away from the mountain while falling unconscious. The shock of the blast stunning the extra-sensory heroes, so they couldn't notice him. While they searched the warehouse, Jason was drifting down a flowing river.
A day or two later
Further down the river, deeper into the woods, lays Jason in shallow water. Some wolves bound out of the woods to drink from the river. One wolf notice him and went to Jason's sleeping form, smelling him before nudging and licking him.
Jason soon woke from the wolf's actions. "Ugh, what happened?", Jason asks before looking around. The low river was surrounded by foliage so thick that he could barely see past a few yards into the woods. He then looked to the wolves, who appeared to be curious of him. Why were they curious?
Putting it off for now, Jason was trying to figure out how to find civilization. Bruce never taught wilderness survival and Jason ad no tech aside of what remained of his Robin suit.
Unable to think of anything, he decided to follow the wolves. They led him to a surprisingly warm cave in a small cliff. The wolves laid deep inn the cave while Jason stayed a little away.
Jason sat down and leaned against the cave's walls. He looked to his hands where his claws were. he was trying to think on how to get his claws to come out. He sees them suddenly pop from his knuckles as he swallowed his pain as to not startle the wolves.
He could now focus more on the claws. They were thin but durable, probably only a centimeter or two wide, and a half a centimeter thick. They were a good 7-8 inches long though. This means they were easy stored in his forearms. They were made of smooth bone, with a creme and bloody color to them.
He resheathed them and sees his knuckles close, more accurately, he healed. He also noticed that he didn't seem to have his injuries from the torture and explosion, no burns or breaks. All the bloody had been washed off in the river. Though, he healed with some of his torn suit stuck to him.
He began the slow and painful process of ripping his suit and flesh apart with him quickly healing. After that, he still wore the suit as he didn't want to be naked.
Jason looked to the wolves in the cave and saw that they were asleep. Deciding to follow their lead, he let sleep take him, wondering what he was supposed to do
Five Weeks later
It's been weeks since the incident in the Warehouse, five weeks Jason has lived in the woods with wolves.
During this time he discovered some more abilities he had.
First was an increase in physical abilities. He was faster, stronger, was more durable, and had more stamina than ever before. Even his reflexes and agility were better than when he was with Batman
Next, he learned he had some sort of Animal Empathy. He was able to understand the emotions of any animal around and even able to communicate on a basic level. This caused him to be a little apprehensive in eating meat again while hunting with the wolves. What got him past it was one simple fact, that despite his powers he was a human, an omnivore. It was natural for him to eat animals, a part of nature. Deer eat plants, wolves eat meat, and he eats both. Though he wouldn't eat any he became friends with, and they understood that.
Lastly was that his five senses were superhumanly acute. His sight could see details from a great distance. Jason's sense of smell was great enough to recognize and track scents. He could hear many things from far away or quiet things loudly. His sense of taste was able to distinguish whatever is in what he eats or drinks, allowing him to see if whether or not he should consume. Finally, his sense of touch was sensitive enough to feel changes in air pressure and temperature changing around him, this helped his reflexes as well.
With all of these abilities, Jason was able to locate a town and was making his way there. While he was a little excited to see people again, he was more curious about what has been going on with the Bat-family and the Team.
Jason was nearly in the town's limits when he heard a sound behind him. Looking back, he saw a red-brown furred wolf among the trees. This was the she-wolf that first woke him from the river and has been with him this whole time Jason has been in the wild.
He could tell she was sad to see him leave the forest and by extension her.
He quickly went over to her. Kneeling down and putting his hand by her nape, he looked into her eyes. Using his empathy, he conveys that all was fine, and he will come back sometime soon.
Leaving her behind, he continued into town.
In Town
Walking through town, Jason was receiving some weird looks. Considering his fur covered robin suit, he probably looks like a feral child.
He was good when came to food and clothes for now, but he needed to know what's been going on while he was in the woods.
Secretly getting into a public library, Jason used a computer using some of his hacking skills. He quickly saw that he was in Canada, due to the immediate news.
After a quick search, he was pissed.
Gone for over a month and nothing has changed. No news about Jason or Robin. Joker was put in Arkham again, without any hesitation. All the heroes were just doing their usual thing, as if he wasn't missing.
As if he didn't matter.
Jason exited the library in a smoldering rage. His knuckles were itching to unleash the claws but he kept control. He doesn't think he should go back to Gotham, he is to bloodthirsty and might kill someone he shouldn't.
Jason ended up going to a store and stole some things. A few sets of clothes, a winter coat, a duffel bag, and food before disappearing from town.
He doesn't know what to do now.
End of Chapter.
AN: After this chapter i am debating whether or not to do a timeskip to get Jason to Xavier or for him to go through the soldier/Weapon X phase first.
