"Eat Your Heart Out"

"Hey, girl."
Cleo's eyes rolled up from her phone. She and Lagoona were attempting to have a civilized afternoon in the Coffin Bean, but apparently that was too much to ask, because she looked up to see Deuce hovering over her. He was clearly on duty from his work apron, but from his grin it seemed he had an unusual concept of good customer service.
Cleo pushed up her sunglasses and frowned. "Excuse you?"
Grin growing, Deuce made finger-guns to indicate himself and Cleo in turn. "I may be the Gorgon, but there's a part of me you're turning to stone." He barked a little laugh, exquisitely amused by himself. "Heh."
Lagoona slurped her drink noisily while Cleo attempted to calcify the rest of him with her eyes. "Drop dead."
"Ch'yeah." With a self-satisfied little flick of his fingers, Deuce turned on his heel and peeled off, presumably before his boss noticed him away from the counter.
Cleo watched him go. "Ugh," she groaned, looking disgusted. "I can't believe I'm going to hook up with that guy."
Lagoona's face was confused over the rim of her coffee cup. "Uh… you don't have to, you know."
"Yeah… but I'm gonna." Cleo rose from her chair, eyes not wavering. Lagoona stood and moved to stand beside her, following her gaze to where Deuce had his back to them, doing his best to seem like he was making himself useful. "How else am I going to get close enough to eat his heart?"
"Oh!" Lagoona took this in, nodding her head. "Legit."
They stood there as Deuce went about his business, blissfully unaware of the hungry eyes still upon him.
