Chapter 13

Serenity's POV

Tuesday

6:50 AM

Why do I feel so hot?

Slowly sitting up I push my blankie off and hug Duncan Deer...

* cough * * cough *

" Mommy...Daddy " I call but my throat and my head hurt.

My door opens and Daddy comes in wearing his clothes for work "Hey what's going on here? " he asks walking to me " I feel hot " I say feeling tired.

Daddy puts a hand on my head but his eyes open "Oh no babe come here " he says looking worried at me "What's wrong Daddy? " I ask him, " I think you might be staying home today honey, " says Daddy sitting by me.

" Good Morning what's going on? " asks Mommy still in her PJs, " I think someone is sick " answers Daddy looking at me "Oh no does she have a fever? " asks Mommy "Yup, " said Daddy.

* cough * * cough *

My throat hurts a lot when I cough making me want to cry " It hurts " I sniff "Oh honey it's okay " said Mommy feeling my forehead "Don't worry you'll get better " said Daddy trying to be nice.

7:15 AM

I would be ready for school but instead, I'm in my PJs still in bed, Mommy was checking my temperature while Daddy called Miss.Zoe to let her know I was staying home.

" But Mommy I'm gonna miss school," I said as I look at the thermometer in my arm " I know but when you are sick you stay home or you'll get others sick " explains Mommy lifting my arm " Just as I thought it's high," she says looking at the thermometer.

" Is Duncan Deer sick too? " I ask looking at him beside me, " I think so let's check," said Mommy patting his head "Yup he's got a fever too and this also means we're gonna have to visit the doctor " she adds concerned.

" How are we doing? " asks Daddy from the door "Me and Duncan Deer are sick, " I said cuddling him "Uh oh," says Daddy coming into my room " Did you call the school? " asks Mommy looking at him " yeah Zoe sends hello to Serenity and hopes she gets better," said Daddy smiling at me.

I smile for a bit but I get sad because I won't get to go to school and see my friends.

" Okay honey let's get you dressed and go visit the Doctor," says Mommy getting up to pick clothes for me...

Courtney's POV

Doctors Office

8:00 AM

Thankfully it was quiet and we got taken in right away.

Poor Serenity rarely ever got sick and today was that day. Her little nose was runny and red, she looked tired, her fever was high and her throat hurt when she coughed. It pained me to see her like this.

" Why do we feel yucky when sick? " asks Serenity tired " Sometimes it's a way our body telling us something isn't good " I answer standing beside her while she sits on the examination table as Duncan stares at a body chart " I don't like it " she whines as her nose drips " here honey blow," I said grabbing a tissue.

As she blows her nose Duncan speaks" Hey check it out Serenity did you know we have 8 ribs " pointing to the chart "Really? " asks Serenity looking at Duncan but just then the doctor walked in.

After a check-up, listening to her lungs and heart, it turns out Serenity had a cold, we were given a prescription which Duncan and I got immediately.

Then once that was finished we went back home so that Serenity could take her medicine and get some rest so that she could get better.

" Okay now you get some rest," says Duncan standing behind me as I placed a cold towel on her forehead "Will I get better? " asks Serenity trying to keep her eyes open " Only if you do what the doctor said " I answer caressing her cheek causing her eyes to close.

Quietly walking out of her room "Hey you sure you don't want me to stay? " Duncan asks looking worried at me "Yeah I'm sure " I breathed knowing he's concerned for Serenity " Alright call me if you need anything and don't stress yourself," he says holding my face in his hands.

Smiling at Duncan I put my hands over him " I won't " I replied before he kisses me gently then slowly parted " I'll see you tonight " he breathed "Okay" I answer as he picks up his keys and wallet from the table.

After Duncan left I sighed heavily, I know it's just the flu but I couldn't help but worry...

" Mommy " calls Serenity followed by hearing her coughing "Coming" I reply going to check on her...

Louis POV

11:30 AM

Lunch Time

I couldn't help but feel sad when Serenity didn't come to class Miss. Zoe told us she was homesick.

It didn't feel the same not seeing her, at recess I sat by myself on the swings even though Mikey, Miguel and Millie were with me.

" Aren't you going to eat your lunch? " asks Mikey biting his apple "It's not good to waste food " says Miguel finishing a banana " I'm not hungry " I answer pushing my lunch bag.

" Do you miss Serenity? " asks Millie sitting beside me "Yeah" I said looking at the empty chair at our table.

" Oh Louis aren't you going to eat your lunch? " asks Miss. Zoe looking at me sad " I'm too sad to eat " I say looking at her " Is it because Serenity isn't here? " she asks me "Yeah she's my best friend and I miss her " I answer feeling my eyes get wet.

" I miss her too," says Millie "Yeah me too," said Miguel "Me too," said Mikey.

Miss.Zoe smiles at all of us "Well how about we do something to let her know that everyone in turtle class misses her " she says getting us to look at her...

Serenity's POV

6:00 PM

The Doctor was right, all day I was resting and I took my medicine. My throat didn't feel scratchy or hurt anymore, mommy gave me chicken noodle soup and orange juice too.

I even took a nap so that I could get my energy back. I just finished having a bath before I went back to bed.

" How are you feeling honey? " asks Mommy helping me put clean pyjamas on " I feel less yucky," I said as my slippers were put on my feet " That's good," says Mommy smiling at me picking up a blue bottle " what's that? " I ask " Vapor rub helps," said Mommy rubbing a little on my chest.

It felt a little cool and when I smell it I can breathe a little better.

" I'm home " calls Daddy...

" Daddy is home," I said excitedly "We're in here "called Mommy as we look at the door. Daddy comes to my room holding something in his hand "How are we feeling? " he asks smiling "Good" I said "What's that? " I ask pointing at what Daddy had.

" Well it seems your class missed you a lot so Louis and his dad brought this to me at work," he says showing a big envelope " Isn't that nice Serenity," says Mommy smiling at me.

Once daddy gave me the envelope I open it and I see lots of cards inside...

" Look cards," I said smiling "Get well cards it looks like each of your classmates made you one " explains Mommy as we look at each one " I like them a lot," I said looking at all the pictures.

While looking at them all I found the ones made by Mikey and Millie they put " get better " and drew a sun. I then found Miguel's card which had " Mi Amor " and he drew flowers all over mine, but Daddy wasn't happy seeing that one. Then finally I saw Louis and it says " miss you, get well soon " his card had the swings on it because we always play on them.

" We're gonna have to say thank you to your class when you get better," said Daddy patting my hair " Can I say thank you tomorrow? " I ask smiling "Let's see how your feeling first okay but for now I'll heat some soup for you " explains Mommy before getting up.

Sighing I look at the cards again " I hope I can go to school tomorrow I miss my friends " I said feeling sad "Yeah I know you do but once you are better you can "...

* Achoo *

I accidentally sneezed on Daddy's face "Oops sorry " I breathed as he gave me a tissue and then got one for himself "It's okay " he said wiping his face " Thankfully I'm immune " I laughed a little at Daddy...

Next Day

Wednesday

8:00 AM

I woke up today feeling a lot better, my fever was gone, my throat didn't hurt and I wasn't sneezing.

" Okay let's go to school," said Mommy smiling at me "Yay school time " I cheered feeling my energy again...

* Coughing * * Achoo*

We both look at Daddy still in his pyjamas and was not looking too good this morning "Have a nice day honey " he says using a tissue " Duncan get back into bed " said Mommy upset "This bites " he groans "Daddy said he's immune " I said making mommy laugh " yeah but when you sneezed on him Daddy caught your cold " she said holding my hand.

" Am I in trouble for getting daddy sick? " I ask sadly "No it's okay honey just means daddy needs to be taken care of by mommy," he said smiling at her.

I look up at Mommy to see her look the other way " Oh he will be taken care of alright if he doesn't be quiet soon " she says now mad "Okay I'll be * achoo * good " he said wiping his nose.

" Daddy needs to do what the doctor said " I giggle "Yes he does and needs to get back to bed " Mommy explained "Okay I'm going, " he whines before slowly walking back to his room.

"Get well soon " I call smiling at Daddy "Okay let's go to school, " said Mommy opening the door.

It's too bad Daddy got sick today but I'm sure he will get better just like me, I'll make him a card to make him happy.

For now, I can enjoy going to school today so that Daddy can rest.
