AN: Who's ready for some drama and alot of anger...

Chapter 16

Normal POV

12:00 PM

The summer heat was increasing each day sometimes there were days that it was recommended to stay indoors. But for some, there was no choice.

" It's so hot " breathes Duncan fanning himself with a magazine as he and others were currently working in the shop, sweating like mad.

" Can't we get an air conditioning system in this place? " asks Marco who's using a wet rag to clean his forehead "Yeah we're all dying in here " said Tony leaning against a wall.

They were all suffering in the shop and business was slow for about a week so all they were doing was stand around or do inventory on their supplies and tools. And today was one of those days.

" Daddy it's hot " whined Serenity walking out of Duncan's office " And I have no more water " she adds walking up to her dad. Since Courtney was at school today Duncan took their daughter to work.

" I know honey it's hot," said Duncan picking up Serenity using the magazine he was using to fan some cool air on her.

" I got an idea," said Tye with a huge smile on his face before running to the back, confusing everyone for a moment "What is he up to now? " asked Marco shaking his head " I'm too hot to care right now " answers Tony.

Just then water is sprayed at him out of nowhere " DUDE!!!! " He said standing wet from head to toe " your cool now aren't cha? " asks Tye who was also drenched.

" Hey quit hogging the hose and spray us already "demanded Marco going up to his brilliant coworker "Yeah cool us down too," said Duncan along with Serenity.

For the next few hours, the whole group took turns spraying one another with the hose, having a good time cooling off.

3:00 PM

Since it was quiet and since no clients were coming in Duncan decided for everyone to go home early today.

It was much appreciated by everyone, after drying off a bit Duncan thought since they closed early and Courtney finishing her classes now that he would just pick her up and they could go out for dinner.

Standing by the front door Duncan sent Courtney a quick text...

Duncan: Hey princess, I'll come pick you up. Business was dead today so we closed early.

Double checking to make sure the door was locked he and Serenity made their way to his car " Alright honey let's go pick up Mommy" he said smiling "Yay Mommy" she cheered as they got to the car.

Opening the door he let Serenity get into her car seat first before helping with her seatbelts, once done his phone buzzed...

Courtney: perfect timing, I'm just finishing now. I'll be in the front waiting in the shade, the classroom was boiling

Duncan smiles seeing her reply...

Duncan: shouldn't be hard to miss the sexy lady I'm picking up _~

Courtney: Your such a tease

Duncan: Damn right I am. I'll be there soon and let's get some dinner afterwards

Courtney: Sounds good, see you soon. I love you

Duncan: I love you too

Once his message was sent he got into the driver's seat and went to the college.

Courtney's POV

3:05 PM

Walking outside I couldn't stop smiling while reading the last message I read from Duncan.

Putting my phone in the back pocket of my jeans I adjust my purse strap on my shoulder.

I gotta say I feel so sweaty from being in class. Why couldn't they close the blinds those sun rays only made the class hotter and the fans they had did nothing, in fact, they barely blew any air.

Even though I wore a tank top today I was dying from this heat. On the bright side, Duncan was picking me up with Serenity and I didn't have to walk home in this heat.

Finally making it to the front and like I said to Duncan I'll be waiting for him in the shade.

As I walked to the front from the distance I noticed someone vaguely familiar standing in the distance, either this heat was getting to me or my eyes were playing tricks on me but I briefly stopped walking.

I also was feeling this very strong anger rise and I only felt this way toward certain or should I say two particular individuals.

Standing a few feet away in my meeting spot was Dad.

He was on his cell phone looking around the school wearing a light blue short-sleeved shirt with black business pants and black shoes.

Taking a deep breath I try walking in another direction but...

" Courtney " he calls...

Shutting my eyes tightly I stop in my tracks taking a deep breath " I've been waiting for you " he says so casually.

Taking a breath I whisper to myself "Give me strength now " before I turn to face Dad walking towards me.

Going up to him I try to keep calm "What do you want? " I asked upset " Is that how you're going to greet me? " Dad asks me "After our last encounter do you think I even still want to see you let alone hear talk to you" I replied crossing my arms.

Nodding his head he speaks " alright then...I got your restraining order " He says making my eyes open but I remain cool "Good cause I meant it when I said you and mom are never coming near Serenity " I speak upset.

" You think I'm gonna accept that," said Dad pulling out the order of the restraint I sent to him a while ago " I'm her mother and if you think I'm letting you and mom come near her think again " I answer back getting angrier by the second.

Dad scoffs at what I just said "You think that...well I'm here to personally tell you Courtney I got this revoked I demand to be allowed to see my grandchild " he replies this time my eye twitch slightly.

Balling my hands into fists " Absolutely not, there is no force on this earth that I would ever allow you near my child " I state getting angry " especially when you didn't acknowledge her as your family...what was it that you always said dad " making sure to breath " I will never accept that delinquents child as my family " I finish.

Rolling his head at me "Did you expect us to not get past the fact that you and that criminal had a child together " answers Dad getting closer to me "Not to mention how you ruined your future by keeping THAT baby " he adds now I was even more angry with how he was referring Serenity.

" First off Dad my daughter has a name...second you never once even said anything good about Duncan...Third you and mom completely ignored and disrespected my baby from the moment she was born " I explained my eyes filling with tears " And lastly during my entire pregnancy all you both ever did was treat me like shit " I added wiping my eyes.

" We're your parents and after everything we ever did for you to prepare you for a bright future got all thrown away for a delinquent and a baby you should have given up " explains Dad sounding so upset.

Just as I was about to say something...

" Care to repeat that again sir "...

Looking past Dad's shoulder standing behind him looking not so happy was my saviour...

" Only this time I dare you to say it directly at me," said Duncan holding Serenity's hand...

Duncan's POV

When I arrived at the front where Courtney said she would be I noticed she wasn't there, I parked the car so that Serenity and I could check to see if we could spot her.

Taking a few steps and looking around to see her walking I then hear a familiar tone of voice that was Courtney's but also one that immediately got me angry.

" Where's mommy? " Serenity asked looking at me, " I think I hear her " I answered as we walk a bit more to see Courtney looking very mad along with that piece of shit dad of hers.

As we approach them I hear the fucker say something that is making me want to punch him...

" We're your parents and after everything we ever did for you to prepare you for a bright future got all thrown away for a delinquent and a baby you should have given up "

He chose the worst words to say, I could care less what he said about me but when he disrespects my daughter that's it...

Walking up from behind him I speak...

" Care to repeat that again sir," I said in a very clear tone of voice cracking my free hand's knuckles...

" Only this time I dare you to say it directly at me " I added getting Mr.Preston's full attention he turned around to look at followed by letting go of Serenity's hand "Sweetie go to mommy " I instructed keeping my eyes on the prick.

" Hi Mommy " greeted Serenity walking right up to her who immediately picked her up "Hi sweetie " greeted Courtney smiling at her before looking at me and her dad.

" Fine I'll repeat it to you...my daughter threw everything away for a hopeless delinquent and a child she shouldn't even have had " he repeats himself standing up to me, I was dying to punch his teeth in but I didn't want Courtney and Serenity to watch.

" You can say anything and I mean anything about me but if I ever hear our daughter being disrespected, don't think I won't punch you out " I hissed before stepping away from him.

Courtney quickly came to my side all of us walking away leaving that piece of shit, alone.

7:30 PM

This whole day turned into the worst.

Here I thought it was going to be a good day especially when we get a chance to go and enjoy dinner together.

We still did but Courtney was upset the whole time about the counter with her dad.

Over dinner, she explained to me how he explained that her parents got the restraining order revoked which was her concern followed by him demanding that him and her mother wanted visitations.

Courtney was not going to allow them near our daughter which is exactly what I would have told him, especially when they never once accepted her.

Then once we got home, the two of us were in the living room while Serenity played in her room.

" Why now? I don't get it at all. " Courtney asked walking back and forth while I sat in the armchair" Neither do I babe and like I've said before whatever you decide I'll support you " I replied gripping the armrests of the chair " I know you will I told them this long ago " breathes Courtney standing still.

What makes them think that what they've said in the past will be forgotten let alone be when it's our daughter that they never accepted.

" Duncan this isn't just my decision anymore it's our decision," said Courtney getting my attention " Your right...I'll admit that sometimes I felt that all the decisions you make for Serenity are your call " I explained rubbing the back of my neck "You've been the main parent up til the time I started being in her life that maybe my input doesn't matter " I add making eye contact with Courtney.

Walking up to me Courtney sits on the couch " Your input does matter your her dad and you can make decisions for Serenity after all you helped make her " she says grinning softly "True I did...it was a lot of fun too " I laughed only to get a smack on my arm. " Point being is we make decisions together from now on and we support each other " She explains in a serious tone of voice.

It's official or rather it has been for a while I'm a parent and I gotta be more serious than ever and my side matters.

Standing up from my seat I walk in a small circle before finally speaking "Then I don't want your parents near Serenity...ever " I said crossing my arms " I mean what kind of people don't accept their grandchild...and if they don't like me that's okay but I still would have been there to help you even if they hate me" I add now getting mad myself.

" My parents have always been judgemental of everyone but if they come from well-known backgrounds then they're all smiles " scuffed Courtney looking at the coffee table " And don't get me started when it came to school " she added.

Taking a deep breath I could see where this is going if we keep going talking about these people were only going to keep getting more upset.

" Babe let's just relax for now today has been a long ass day that unfortunately included seeing that dick " I groaned "Yeah your right " breathes Courtney.

" What's a dick? " asks Serenity who was standing right behind me "Young lady never say that word," said Courtney very upset then frowned at me "Yeah like mommy said never say that word missy it gets you trouble," I said looking away from the glare I was receiving " but you said it daddy " points Serenity looking at me.

" Okay no more bad young lady and daddy too " Courtney exhales standing up from the couch "Come on time for a bath and then bedtime " she adds taking Serenity's hand "Okay Mommy" answered Serenity walking away.

But once they were gone I couldn't help but laugh, the way Serenity said dick was priceless.

Courtney's POV

8:30 PM

I was tired and just wanted today to be over. Dad showing up again was messing me up again, who did he think he was?

Sitting in bed I was reading my class notes and worked on a case study, if there's anything that gets my mind off situations while doing my homework,

" Babe come on this is relaxing to you?" Asked Duncan sitting beside me while looking at his phone "Not now Duncan " I answered highlighting a note "Plus for saying dick in front of Serenity you're not getting any tonight " I add eyeing him " What?! That's just being a cruel princess " he answers laying down on his pillow then blankly stares at the ceiling.

" Then watch your mouth next time I don't want Serenity saying bad words " I explained putting my notes down " It was one word and I already told her that if she ever says it again she's grounded," said Duncan looking at me seriously" really? Or are you just saying that to impress me " I asked raising a brow " That but I also warned her that Duncan Deer will be taken away for a week " he replies trying to hide his smile " Seriously? Take away Duncan Deer? " I laughed shaking my head.

" Hey you know how much she loves that deer so I used him as a source of consequence if she says a bad word again...and you would have been very surprised how scared she looked when I said that " explains Duncan smirking while laying on his side trying to look appealing " you scared her straight by threatening to take her toy away," I said putting my books and notebook on the nightstand "that's a bit mean don't you think? " I asked crossing my arms and making his smirk fade away.

Rolling his eyes and sitting up Duncan speaks "Great now you're making me feel bad " he said turning the other way so that his back was facing me " I didn't mean to just it made it sound like something a bully would do " I explained putting a hand on his shoulder " now I'm a dad bully great thanks babe " replies Duncan in a dull voice.

" Okay guess I'll just go to sleep now," I said fluffing my pillow "Good night " he groans still not moving " And just when I was going to let you have a feel up...good night " I add turning the light off but a second later it's on along with Duncan pulling me close to him " as if I'm letting that up," he said before kissing me.

* ring * * ring *

Stopping what we were doing I pull away from Duncan " no no babe come on leave it " he groans trying to pull me back " just one minute " I answered reaching for my phone " fine but I deserve more then just a feel " said Duncan cranky as I answered the phone.

Me: Hello?

?: * taking a deep breath * Good evening Courtney

My eyes open up hearing this voice...

Me: Hi Mom...

Duncan looks at me concerned...

Mom: Courtney your father told me what happened today, what is the matter with you?

I'm officially upset for the seond time today I never thought that would ever happen but when I have parents like the ones I have it's possible...

Me: Excuse me? Showing up unannounced at my daughters preschool and at the college I go to, is not okay Mom. Especially when today Dad demands I allow the both of you visitation

Mom: We have every right to see the child

Taking a deep breath I quickly grab my pillow and scream into it before I can even continue talking. Feeling Duncan rub my back I calm down a bit " babe? " he asks but after taking a deep breath I answer...

Me: The child your referring to has a name it's Serenity Maria Preston...start by saying that first before asking for visitations

Mom: That restraining order you sent was quite the ordeal

Me: * rolling my eyes * Did you both honestly think I would allow either of you near her after how you treated her when she was a new born? Mom she was an innocent baby that was already getting criticized by you and dad, then to make it worse you kept referring her as a delinquients child...do you know how that sounds?

Mom: What you saw in that criminal baffles me to this day, let alone getting pregnant by him was the downfall of your bright future

Me: I'm working towards a future and if anything Mom I did it all without you or Dad. I've had great support from everyone and just so you know Duncan is taking care of us and his parents have been better grandparents then you and dad could ever be

Mom: Oh really? You think so?

Me: Yes

Mom: Fine but be as it may, we still want visitation to see the child

Me: Your impossible

Mom: I'm your mother and I know when your incapable

Me: Say whatever you want Mom

Mom: Aside from this lovely conversation my main reason for calling you is that we want to arrange a meeting with yourself and that person

( AN: who here is calling Courtney's Mom a bitch and her dad alot of things )

Squeezing the blanket tight in my hand I grip my phone hard...

Me: Fine, but dinner will be at our place and Duncan's parents will also be there

Mom: Alright then, I'll let your father know

Me: Fine...good night mom

But just as mom was about to say bye back I hang up on her.

" That did not sound like a good phone call conversation " said Duncan currently sitting beside me " no it was not " I breathed staring at floor " my parents are coming for dinner to talk with us and your parents are invited too " I add already dreading how that will go.
