Harry and Ginny went inside and saw Dumbledore standing in front of his desk, waiting for them. He greeted the 2 and asked them to sit in the chairs. Harry looked around the office for a bit. It was so similar to the office Dumbledore had when Harry was a student. Just a few artifacts were missing. Otherwise, everything else was the same. And that didn't surprise Harry for this after all was professor Dumbledore.
Albus said, "Welcome to Hogwarts, Mr. Harry Williams and Ms. Guinevere Taylor. Both of you are here to apply for the position of Defence Against Dark Arts professor?" Both of them nodded. Albus then asked, "Both of you are very young, just a year older than the coming 7th years. Why apply for this post?" This was a question Minerva had already told them both the answer to, the same answer which Dumbledore apparently got from them last time. Harry said, "Professor. Both me and Ginny are half-bloods. We however never came to Hogwarts and learnt magic in our homes and wrote the owls and newts at the ministry. However, just few weeks back, death eaters attacked our homes and killed our families. We managed to barely escape with our godson and were constantly hiding and moving, looking for a safe place where we could stay. But we never found it. We recently learnt about the open position of DADA professor and we decided to try for it." Ginny then continued, "Our belief was that if we did end up getting selected, we would be in Hogwarts, which is one of the safest places in Britain right now." Albus said, "I am sorry to hear that you lost your family due to the actions of the death eaters. I had already decided to interview you both once, for no one else had applied for this position, but I had to ask this question for official purposes. Let's start with the interview."
Dumbledore proceeded to ask both Harry and Ginny several questions on DADA. About defence against magical creatures, about several jinxes and counter-jinxes, about the unforgivable curses and many more. At the end of the interview, Dumbledore said, "Both of you are highly knowledgeable in the theoretical part. Can you perform some of these jinxes and spells?" He then handed them a sheet containing name of spells. Some were simple, like Expelliarmus and Stupefy. Some difficult one like Reductor Curse and Patronus charm were also there. Harry and Ginny performed all these spells. Dumbledore was especially impressed with their patroni and said, "Very impressive. You may sit down. The interview is done." After both Harry and Ginny sat down, he said, "Both of you are very proficient in the subject. The only hindrance is your ages. I however have one proposition for you, if you would like to hear." Harry and Ginny agreed to hear the proposition. He then said, "Not many people know this, but in Hogwarts charter, there is an additional position of assistant professor. While there may only be 1 professor for a subject, there may be as many assistant professors as required. Since both of you are very young, I will appoint both of you as assistant professors for DADA, if you agree to it." Harry said, "Can you give us some time to discuss this?" Dumbledore nodded and Harry and Ginny went outside the office.
Harry said, "What do you think Ginny?" Ginny said, "McGonagall had told us that we were professors. But if we agree to this, wouldn't we be assistant professors then? Wouldn't that change the events?" Harry thought for a while and said, "Ginny, I think we need to forget how our actions affect the future. Because neither us, nor Dumbledore nor Minerva know everything we did when we were here. I think we need to just live like we do and don't care how our actions affect the future. I think as long as we don't drastically change the events, it would be ok. This is the first time we are hearing about assistant professors. Is it possible we were assistant's professors, but since no one knew about them, they assumed we were professors?" Ginny thought for a while and said, "That sounds possible Harry. So, we agree to this proposition then?" Harry nodded. They both then went inside and agreed to Dumbledore's offer.
Dumbledore smiled and said, "Wonderful. Now let me tell you what being an assistant professor means. Both you will still have all the power and responsibility a professor has. You will be called a professor by the students. The only thing that would have been different would have been that you yourself would have been supervised by the professor of the subject. But since we don't have a professor, you will report directly to me." Both Harry and Ginny agreed to this. They were now assistant professor for DADA. Dumbledore then introduced them to other professors and then showed them their quarters.
Their room was a huge suite room. The living room had 2 tables and a book shelf near the fireplace. They had 2 separate bedrooms each having a four poster beds, just like the ones in the dorms, and a bathroom. A small crib was also there in the room which had baby monitoring spells on them. Dumbledore then left, allowing the 2 to arrange their bedrooms and get settled. Teddy woke up after a while. After cleaning him up and feeding him, they played with him for a while. Their first day in the past went by without any more incidents.
