2 weeks later, Head Girls Room

Something was going on with James Potter. At least that was what Lily thought, since according to her, his behavior these past two weeks was not normal James Potter behavior. He was taking his Head Boy duties seriously. She had just come from a meeting between the heads and perfects that he had organized. Many times, she had seen him help first and second years. The number of pranks the marauders pulled had reduced. He was being serious in classes, while still maintaining the same easy-going relationship with the professors, even with the two new DADA professors. He was outright topping in transfiguration while just behind her in Charms. He was yet to do any prank on Severus Snape. But the biggest of them all, he had stopped asking her out. Not once had he asked her out in these past 2 weeks. Just what was going on with James Potter?

Lily had asked Marlene what was going on with James Potter. Being Sirius's girlfriend, she was close to James and knew him better than her. She had said, "He wants to get top NEWT scores to get into Aurors school and get Mad-Eye Moody as his mentor. He also wants to join Dumbledore's secret group. So, he is focusing on his studies. As for not asking you out in his usual ridiculous attempts, he apparently has given up on you." Lily had exclaimed then in surprise. James Potter, who had been asking her out in the most ridiculous and sometimes downright embarrassing ways for the past 6 years, had given up on her? She had thought it had been a joke or some kind of trick, but Marlene had been serious. She couldn't understand why a small, very small part of her was angry that James had given up on her. She however didn't pay any attention to it. She hated James Potter, didn't she? Didn't she always think he was an arrogant toe-rag? If he had 'supposedly' given up on her, then she should be happy, right? She went to sleep with these thoughts running through in her mind.

James was having a good time at Hogwarts in these last 15 days. He felt that he was doing good not only in his classes, but also in his duties as head boy and his role as Gryffindor quidditch captain. A wonderful team had been assembled and the Gryffindor team looked like the favorites for the cup. There was one difference this time. This time he was playing as a seeker, since he had found a trio that worked perfectly as chaser's despite all this, a small part of his heart was sad. Sad because the girl he liked so much would never return his affections. In her mind, he would always remain the same obnoxious, arrogant boy he had for the last 6 years. As he had told his friends, he had given up on her and was trying to move on. But with her being the Head Girl, that was very difficult, due to the amount of time they had to spend together being the heads.

Harry meanwhile was also seeing the change his father was going through. Sirius and Remus had told him that his father got his head straight and became grounded in his seventh year and Harry was seeing that clearly. But he had also seen that he hadn't asked Lily even once. Did it mean that he had given up on her? When he asked Ginny this, she said, "Harry, if that was true, you wouldn't exist here now, would you? I think he still likes her, but in his mind believes that she would never like him. We need to let the events happen. Something will happen that will bring them together." Harry nodded. They then turned their attention to their godson, who was now nearly 6 months old and was playing with some of his toys. Harry began playing with his godson, deciding to stop worrying about things for some time.

October 1st, 1977

Today, Harry and Ginny were going to teach the Patronus Charm to the 7th years. Harry and Ginny were very excited for today's class. After the roll call was taken, Harry started the class by saying, "Today, we are going to learn one of the most difficult but useful charm. It is the only defence against dementors and Lethifolds. Can anyone guess what charm are we talking about?" Lily raised her hand and said, "It's the Patronus Charm. It's the only defence against Dementors and Lethifolds." Harry gave her five points. He then asked, "Can anyone tell us what is a Patronus?" James lifted his hand and said, "It's an embodiment of happy thoughts or memories, which will repel the dementors." Harry gave him 5 points and asked a final question. "So, what do you need for the Patronus charm to work?" Remus answered and said "Any powerful and happy memory". Harry gave another 5 points and said, "That part is very important. The memory needs to be very strong. It needs to fill your body. Only then would the charm work." He then asked Ginny to do the charm. Ginny did and her horse came out of her wand and galloped around her before bowing in front of her. Ginny petted her and the horse disappeared. Ginny then said, "As you all saw, the shape of my Patronus is a horse. Patronus is similar to the Animagus form, in that it represents a part of your personality and nature. You will learn more about Animagus and human transfiguration this year in your transfiguration classes. Mine is a horse, which represents that I am independent, powerful and strong. Harry's is a stag. It represents leadership, protectiveness and strength. Similarly, your Patronus depends on you. Harry, can you show your Patronus once?" Harry casted the spell and Prongs came out of his wand. He looked around, went to Harry who petted him and whispered something in its ear. He then went to Ginny and poked her legs with his antlers. While it didn't hurt Ginny, it felt ticklish to her. Ginny gave a laugh and petted him. Prongs then disappeared. Harry then said, "We have practiced and used Patronus charm a lot. Due to that, we have a corporal form. A corporal form means our Patronus has a definite shape. At the beginning, you will have a few stands of mist. Once you can form a lot of strands, it will combine and form a mist shield. It would evolve into a corporal form after practice. It is a very draining spell. Due to repeated use, it doesn't drain us that much. But if we use it 6 or 7 times in a row, we will be very tired. We generally eat chocolate after doing the charm when we practiced the charm. We will practice for this entire week. It is a very important spell for you. Here is the wand movement and the incantation." The class had been a huge hit. No one had been able to produce a shield but near the end of the class, they all got few strands of mist out of their wands. This made them even more excited and all of them were excited to try this again in the next class. Harry and Ginny gave them some chocolate and told them to not try the charm too many times, because the Patronus charm was an energy draining spell.
