The same day
Lily was sitting along with Remus, playing with Teddy. She and Emmanuel had taken a break from the dancing and he had gone to bring drinks for the three of them. When she was playing with Teddy, Remus said, "Lily. Look there." She looked where Remus was pointing and saw Harry and Ginny kissing. She smiled and said to Remus, "About time they both got together." Remus said, "I was thinking how long it would be before they got together after seeing some of their actions in the class." Lily nodded. Many times, during the class, Harry and Ginny would say or do something that would make them look like a couple. And now, the way things were looking, they were going to become a couple.
But soon Lily's eyes found another person. She saw Patricia kiss James. Jealousy and anger filled her body. Her hand was twitching, wanting to pull her wand out and curse Patricia. But as quickly as these feelings came, another feeling came. One of confusion. She started feeling overwhelmed and quickly got up and left the hall. Remus was confused by Lily's behavior's. Soon Emmanuel came to the table and asked him where Lily was. Remus covered for her and said she wasn't feeling well and left. Emmanuel understood and then left the table.
But in her hurry, Lily didn't see James's push Patricia and didn't see him saying something to her. But Remus did and he knew that James was angry. He had told them that he had asked Patricia to the ball only as friends and nothing more. Apparently, Patricia wanted something more. James too left the hall after that, leaving an angry Patricia behind.
Harry and Ginny had seen this as well. Ginny said, "You go after Lily. I will go after James." Harry nodded and gave her a quick peck and then went where Lily went. Ginny was surprised by the quick kiss and touched her lips once, still not believing Harry kissed her. She however remembered what she had to do and left the hall as well.
Harry found Lily sitting on one of the benches in the Rose Garden outside. He slowly walked towards her, not wanting to startle her.
Lily was confused. Why was she feeling jealous and angry? Why was she jealous that Patricia had kissed James? Why was she angry that James looked as if he was enjoying the kiss? Why was she feeling these feelings? Did she like James in that way? Was she falling for James Potter, the boy she had hated for 6 years before this year?
She heard Harry say, "Looks like someone has realized that they have fallen for a certain messy black haired, brown eyed, Gryffindor head boy." She said, "Am I that obvious?" She saw Harry in the bench beside her. He said, "You weren't obvious. But I have been in your position. I know how it feels seeing someone you like kiss someone else. I felt the same things you are feeling now." Lily said, "Ginny is that girl, isn't it? I have seen how you look at her sometimes." Harry nodded and said, "It was Ginny." Lily said, "I saw you both kissing at the end of the song. Looks like you got together with the girl you like." Harry said, "So will you Lily. What you didn't see after you left the ball was James pushed Patricia away and then left the ball in anger. He doesn't have any feelings for her. He still has feelings for you." Lily asked him, "If he did have feelings for me, why didn't he ask me out even once so far?" Harry said, "Because he knows you didn't like that. He believed you would never like him and that you hate him. So, he stopped asking you out. And now that you are his friend, he doesn't want to mess it up by asking you out." Lily said, "Do you really think that?" Harry said, "I do." Lily thought for a while. She then said, "I feel a bit better. Thank you, Professor." Harry said, "No problem, Lily. I got to go back to the ball now." Lily nodded. She stayed there for a while before getting up and heading back to the Gryffindor Tower.
When Harry went back inside the hall, he found Ginny sitting in table with Teddy in her arms, who was sleeping. He went towards her. Ginny saw him and said that they should head to their quarters, for Teddy was sleepy. They went to their quarters and placed Teddy in his crib. He had enjoyed the ball and Harry and Ginny were happy that he was able to spend some time with Remus.
Harry and Ginny then sat in front of the fire and told the other about what happened after they left the hall. Harry told Ginny how Lily was confused regarding her feelings for James and was falling for James. Ginny meanwhile told him that James was just angry. He had asked Patricia as friends and had even told her that when he asked her to the ball. But her kissing him made him think she hadn't believed him and thought she could get him to like her in that way. After he blew some steam off and calmed down, he was fine and then went back to the Gryffindor tower.
After discussing all this, Harry said, "Ginny, there is one more thing we need to talk about." Ginny knew what Harry was talking about. It was about the sweet, tender, soft and loving kiss they had shared at the ball. She took his hands in hers, unknowingly giving him the confidence to say what he wanted to. He said, "That kiss, I have been wanting to do that since my 6th year at Hogwarts. Since the moment I realized I had fallen deeply for you. As time went by, they only grew. Today, dancing with you like that, holding you in my arms, I couldn't resist kissing you. And I want to kiss you more. I want to be with you for a long time." Few tears escaped Ginny's eyes. Her grip on his hands tightened. Her voice was shaky when she said, "There is nothing that I would like more than that Harry. I have been waiting for it for a long time. Now that I finally have it, I am not letting you go." She then kissed him, and all remaining thoughts left Harry's mind as he and Ginny kissed once again.
