Ruby Rose

I stretch and yawn as I wait for the crosswalk signal to change. I took off early again today and I still somehow am just exhausted. I just wanna go grab Whiterose from the parking garage and head home. I pull out my phone and text Weiss, asking if she wants me to pick something up for dinner. 'No thanks, I feel like cooking tonight.' I smile as the thought of Weiss' home cooking brings back some of my energy. Then all of a sudden I see two kids wandering around. One is a boy who looks to be about 10 and the other is a girl who looks about 6.

The boy is looking around like he is lost and the girl looks as if she is very upset. They must be brother and sister, at least that's my assumption. I walk up to them to talk to them trying my best not to scare them.

"Hey there" I say walking up to them before kneeling down to be eye level with the boy. "my name is Ruby, are you lost?" The girl hides behind her brother and he just looks pretty ashamed.

"K-Kinda.." he says, not wanting to make eye contact with me.

"Hey no need to be embarrassed even grown ups get lost sometimes" I say trying to cheer him up "besides you've done a good job looking out for your sister."

"Well yeah I have to, I am the big brother after all." He says looking as though a bit of his pride has been restored.

"A pretty good one too from the looks of it." I say smiling. "You guys have names?"

"My name is Brun and this is my little sister Maron." he says.

"That's a pretty name." I look at the little girl, trying to calm her down a little.

"Come on Maron the nice lady isn't gonna hurt us." he says gently nudging her.

"It's okay, I understand that meeting new people can be a little scary." I pull out my phone. "Now do you remember your address or maybe your phone number?"

He reads his address off to me and I put it into my phone. It turns out their house is only a few blocks away, they must have just wandered a little too far from home.

"Alright, I'm gonna help you guys get home now, I'm sure your parents are worried sick."

"Th-Thank you." He says, clearly still a little embarrassed.

As we are walking to their house I see that the little girl is still clinging to her big brother and he is patting her on the head to calm her. It is really sweet and kind of reminds me of how Yang would look out for me when we were kids. Once we reach their house I walk them up to the front door and ring the doorbell. A very frazzled and frightened looking mother answers the door.

"There you two are!" she shouts and kneels down hugging them. The poor woman looked like she was scared to death. She is crying a little, the girl is crying a lot, and the boy looks like he is trying not to cry. "I was just about to call the police, don't you ever wander off like that again!"

"I found these two wandering around a couple blocks from here." I say and she jumps up hugging me.

"Thank you so much for bringing them home." she says, it honestly made me feel really good knowing I could help her out, I can't imagine how terrifying it would be to not know where you're kids are. "I don't know how they wandered off. I only left them alone for a minute to go get something out of the kitchen and when I came back I couldn't find them, I walked around the block looking for them and when I couldn't find them I ran home to call the cops."

"It's no problem ma'am, I'm just glad little Maron had such a good big Brother looking out for her." I kneel down to be eye level with the kids. "and you don't go worrying your Momma like that again."

"I won't, thank you for the help." he says sniffling.

I smile and stand back up. "Anyway, my wife is problem wondering where I am, I should go."

Suddenly the little girl surprises me by running and hugging my leg. "Thank you for helping me find my Mommy." she actually speaks to me. I couldn't help but smile at how adorable she was.

"You're very welcome." I say, ruffling her hair before she runs back to her mom. I wave bye to all of them and start walking back in the direction of the parking garage so I can grab Whiterose.

That encounter made me start to think about my conversation with Weiss this morning. Yeah having kids is tough, it comes with a lot of challenges and sometimes bad stuff can even happen but...I don't know. I kinda feel like it would be great to be a Momma.

(6 hours later)

I pull up to the house really glad to finally be home. I walk inside and see Weiss sitting on the couch watching a movie. Too tired to do anything else I plop down on the couch right next to her.

"Welcome home." she says cuddling into me.

"Thanks Weissy." I say putting an arm around her as she lays her head on my shoulder. We just kinda sit there in silence for a while.

"You hungry?" she asks.

"Starving." I answer honestly.

"Alrighty just give me a little bit." She kisses my cheek and hops off the couch, heading into the kitchen. I am so lucky to have her, she's way too good to me. A little bit later she comes out with a modest meal. Nothing crazy but right now it looks like the most delicious thing I have ever eaten.

"Thanks a ton, I really appreciate it." I say as I start eating.

"Don't mention it." she says sitting back down.

"So how was your day?" I say after swallowing.

"Pretty good actually, I not only managed to get my proposal done" that earns a high five from me, I knew she would but I'm so glad she doesn't have to stress about it anymore. "But I also had fun hanging out with the kids." she says smiling.

"Good to hear it, how was my favorite?" I ask, I am not shy about my blatant favoritism.

"Loran was a perfect angel as usual." she says.

Once I finish eating, I decide to get some gaming in. After asking Weiss if I can hijack the TV of course, I mean she could always just go watch the TV in our room but we always ask before just taking over the living room TV.

Weiss lays back on the couch and I lay against her, covering us both with our favorite cuddling blanket. I love that she actually seems to enjoy watching me play, of course I'd love it if we could play together but she's never been super into video games. Regardless it's just nice having her keep me company.

About an hour later the thought of those kids I met earlier pops into my head.

"Something kinda funny happened today."

"Oh really, what's that?" Weiss asks, twirling her finger around in my hair. She really likes to play with my hair whenever she big spoons.

"On the way home, I ran into these little kids who got lost. They kind of reminded me of myself and Yang when we were their age."

"They made it home okay right?"

"Yeah, I made sure they got home safe." I pause the game and look down at my controller. "They both thanked me and the little girl even hugged my leg…then there was the Mom, she was so relieved she even hugged me too."

"I can imagine, I'm glad you were the one who found them."

"Me too..It's funny I saw them and their Mom and just how much they obviously loved eachother. It was just so sweet."

We sat there in silence for at least a solid minute before I finally speak up. "Hey Weiss?" I ask in an actually kind of nervous tone.

"What is it?" she asks, resting her chin on my shoulder.

"What would you say if...?" I start finding it kind of hard to get the words out.

"If what?" she asks back.

"If...I said I wanted to have a baby?" I ask. At first she goes deadly quiet. I actually freak out a bit, wondering if I upset her. "I-It's okay, you don't have to answer if you don't want to-"

"I'm just thinking Ruby." she says in a reassuring but slightly annoyed tone.

"Oh, S-Sorry." I blush and look away, a little embarrassed.

"I've actually been giving it a bit of thought myself."

"You have?" I ask, kind of surprised.

"Yes, for a little while now and I guess...I would say..so do I." she cuddles into me even more and kisses my shoulder.

(At Yang's House)

"You want to what!?" Yang asks with a mixture of surprise and confusion.

"We want to have a baby." I say again.

"That is what I thought you said." she sighs.

"Well, who is having the baby?" Blake asks.

"We agreed that I would carry this one." Weiss says.

"Oh…" she says, sounding a bit disappointed as Blake gets up to get some tea.

"What's wrong?" I ask.

"I was kinda hoping it'd be you, I bet you'd be adorable with a little baby bump."

"Be serious Yang." I roll my eyes.

"That is a good point." Weiss says.

"I know right!?"

"Can we get back on topic…" I sigh.

"Ruby clearly wants to knows what you really think Yang." Blake walks into the room, handing us all cups of tea. "Ease off the antics a bit love."

I shoot Blake a very grateful look. I love my big Sister but she can be a bit much sometimes. Blake is the only person I have ever seen who can really reign her in.

"Okay okay, in all seriousness, are you guys sure you're ready for this?" she asks, looking a bit more stone faced.

"About as ready as we will ever be." I say and Weiss nods in agreement.

"I just want you to be sure before you go any further." Yang says in her big Sister lecture voice. "This will change both of your lives forever, you won't just be looking after yourselves anymore."

"We know, we discussed all this for hours last night, we are as sure as we can be that we're ready for this." I say.

"I wouldn't have let it come this far if I thought we couldn't handle it." Weiss says sternly.

"That's true I suppose." Yang says leaning back on the couch. "As whipped as you are by my little sister, this is something I can't see you backing down on."

"I-I am not whipped!" Weiss shouts in protest.

"Yeah yeah, whatever you say princess." Yang says, waving her off, making Weiss puff out her cheeks and pout in frustration. "Anyway, if you guys are totally sure about this, I will support you however I can."

"Thanks, Sis, It means a lot." I say smiling at her.

"Don't mention it, just promise me one thing." she says.

"What is that?" I ask.

"That I get to babysit all the time!" she shouts pulling me into another deadly hug.

"Okay okay, we promise, just stop trying to kill Ruby!" Weiss shouts. Little did Weiss know but she had stepped right into hugging range. If not for Blake making her let us go we might have genuinely passed out.

We still have quite a few people left to tell. There is Winter and the rest of Weiss' family, Alan and Inu, Ren and Nora and then there is…one other person who we should really pay a visit to.

Weiss Schnee

(One Month Later)

This. Has been. The most stressful 5 minutes. Ever. Of all time. It has been a couple of weeks and I decided to take a pregnancy test to see if it worked. I know it's only been a few minutes, but it feels like I have been waiting for a century.

Ruby is in the bedroom right now, waiting for me to tell her the results. The timer I set on my phone goes off and I take a deep breath. Two pink lines means pregnant, and one means I'm not.

Part of me doesn't even want to look at it..the more and more time passes the more Ruby and I both really want to have a baby. I know we can always try again but still..

Finally I take a deep breath and I slowly lift it up to look at it and see... two pink lines!

"R-Ruby, it worked!" I shout, happily running out of the bathroom only for Ruby to grab me around the waist and spin me around.

"It worked?! We're gonna have a baby!?" She shouts with the biggest smile I think she can muster.

"Yes, isn't that fantastic Ruby?!" I shout, throwing my arms around her neck.

"Just think, in a little less than nine months, we'll be Mommies" She says, putting her forehead against mine.

"That's still a little while away and until then there is gonna be a lot of preparation we have to do but yes, that is a very exciting thought." I smile and give her a gentle kiss.

"What should we name them?" She asks as we both lay down on the bed.

"Hmm... I'm not sure, but I was thinking maybe Nicholas if it's a boy." I lay on my side and snuggle into her. "I kinda want to name him after my Grandfather, he was a very kind man."

"Alright agreed, BUT if it's a girl, I think we should call her Summer after my Mom." She says almost like she's bargaining.

"Alright then, it's a deal." I giggle and kiss her on the cheek.

"Weiss?" She asks, sounding slightly anxious.

"Yes Ruby?"

"Do you think we'll be good parents?"

"Well... I'm not sure if I'm totally honest, I'm sure you will at least, because you had a great dad and Yang was a great parental figure too." I lower my head. "I didn't always have very good examples to learn from."

"Don't worry Weiss, I'm sure you will be amazing, you're nothing like your dad." She kisses the top of my head and I can't help but smile. "And yeah you're Mom wasn't there as often as she should've been but there is Klein right? Plus I'm sure Winter had to do for you what Yang did for me, so just use them as your example."

"Thank you Ruby, I needed that." I raise my head so I can kiss her. We lay there, cuddling for a good while before Ruby falls asleep. I can't wait to meet our baby.

I put my hands over my stomach, imagining what it will be like to have a living thing growing inside me. I am extremely anxious, but at the same time I'm excited. Of course there will definitely be some very not fun parts but I can handle it.

Sure I may be nervous, but with Ruby by my side I know I can do it. Nothing is going to stop me from being the best Mom I can be.
