December 15th, 1977
The extra defence class became a huge hit among the students. While Dumbledore had said Harry and Ginny would teach, sometimes he, professor McGonagall, professor Flitwick or other professors joined them. Even Madam Pomfrey came and taught some basic healing spells to the students. This was specifically taught to first and second years. Other years were taught offensive, especially the seventh years.
With the Christmas break just few days away, a small dueling competition was decided for the 6th and 7th years. It was going to be held on December 19th, the day before the Christmas break was going to start. The students became excited when they were told about the competition and the 6th and 7th years began preparing for it. Two in particular were practising more than every other student. Those 2 were Severus Snape and Patricia Smith, determined and motivated to humiliate James and Lily when they would duel with them during the contest.
But before that, the last Hogsmeade weekend of the year was held. But the attack on the last weekend was still in many students' minds and very few students went to the village. James, Lily, Sirius, Marlene, Dorcas, Alice, Remus and Peter all went to the village and just like last time, split into pairs.
Once all his friends went their separate ways, Peter began walking away from the village and went towards the Hogs Head. He found a girl waiting just outside the pub. She saw him and then smiled at him. Peter returned her smile and went towards her. She surprised him with a hug and a kiss on the cheek. Peter started blushing and that made the girl laugh. She said, "If you are done blushing, shall we go on? Time's ticking and we have a lot to do Peter." He said, "And what have you planned for us to do today, Martha?" She again smiled and said, "That is a surprise. Now follow me."
The rest of the day, Peter spent it with Martha. They had a picnic at the top of the mountains, with the castle and the black view as the view. They talked about the past month, about their friends and many other things. After they had eaten their food, they then went back to the village and roamed around while talking. During their walk, Peter's hands touched Martha's. He wanted to hold her hand, but was feeling shy. Martha seemed to realise this for she took his hand in hers. Peter looked at her, surprised. But she just smiled and continued. Happiness and joy filled Peter's heart.
They spent the rest of the time, roaming the village, window shopping and talking. As the sunset, Peter knew he had to go back to the castle. He said, "Today has been one if not the best day of my life Martha. Thank you for planning and doing everything today." She smiled and squeezed his hand. He said, "Are you free on the day after Christmas?" Martha said, "Why Peter? Are you planning on asking me to a date?" Peter said, "I am. If you want to that is?" Martha said, "I absolutely want. But let me tell you Peter Pettigrew, I will have high expectations from our date." Peter moved closer to her and said, "I will satisfy all your expectations Martha Abbott." She leaned closer, their faces just few inches apart, as she said, "We will see who satisfies whom." Then surprising Peter, she closed the gap as she kissed him.
When she pulled back, she saw Peter's eyes wide, his mouth agape from surprise. She closed his mouth and gave him another peck and said, "Let's see how you will top this." She then left. As she left and went towards the village, she looked back. Peter was still standing there, his hand was touching his lips, still not believing he got kissed. She grinned and went back feeling over the moon.
When Sirius had told Peter, James and Remus that he and Marlene were dating, they had teased him mercilessly. Peter used to tease him for smiling like a lovelorn idiot whenever he was around Marlene. But after today, he realized why Sirius smiled like that. What he felt today was one of the best feelings in the world.
