Peter was in his parent's home, celebrating with his family what could most probably be his father's last Christmas. His father had been suffering from cancer for the entirety of last 2 years and it was magic that was able to keep him alive this long . But even magic could only do so much. The healers had told him and his mother that at the very best he may live another year. Peter and his mother had promised each other that day to make the remaining time his father had the happiest and most memorable they could. They wanted him to die having no regrets in his life.
And the way his father was smiling during Christmas, it made Peter very happy. All his friends had sent gifts for him. Martha had even come for lunch. After coming to know she was an orphan and had no family to celebrate Christmas with, his parents told him to invite her to their home for Christmas. His father talked a lot with Martha and told her lot of stories not only from Peter's childhood, but also about his friends. Martha had enjoyed the day with his family and it looked as if his parents, especially his dad, approved of her and liked her. His mom had even told him, "She has completely won over your dad and me." After she had left, his father asked him, "Peter, how did you meet Martha? When did the two of you begin dating?" Peter then began telling them how he met Martha.
He had met her for the first during the attack on Hogsmeade. He had been in one of the jewellery shops, looking to buy something for his mother for Christmas. When he went inside the shop, a very beautiful girl greeted him and said, "Hello. My name is Martha. How can I help you?" Peter said, "I want to look for some earrings with sapphire in them." Martha nodded and said, "Is it for your girlfriend?" Peter laughed and said, "No. I don't have a girlfriend. It's for my mum. She loves Sapphire jewellery and this is going to be her Christmas gift." The girl nodded and showed him several earrings. Peter had been looking at the earrings when they suddenly heard shouts of terror and panic come from outside. They ran outside and saw several dementors attacking the villagers. They quickly pulled as many villagers as they could inside the shop and then barricaded the door. Peter asked them, "Does anyone know how to cast the Patronus Charm?" They all said no. He said, "Ok. I know how to cast a shield. We will stay here until help comes through. But you all need to control your fear. The dementors sense fear and they will use your fear. Think about your happy memories and thoughts." They all nodded.
Peter casted the charm and his shield came through his wand. He held the shield towards the gate, preventing the dementors from sensing the fear of the villagers and thus stopping them from attacking the shop. He heard Martha say to him, "There is a secret passage behind the gate. I will help the villagers go out from there. How long can you hold this charm?" Peter said, "Not for too long. Maybe another minute." Martha said, "I will try as quickly as I can." Peter nodded. Martha then helped the villagers escape from the back. As soon as they were out of the shop, they quickly ran towards Hogwarts. Martha went back to Peter, who had stopped the charm and was very tired. Martha gave him some water while Peter asked her for some chocolate, which she gave im. She said, "The villagers are gone. Let's go." Peter nodded and together they both left the shop and ran towards Hogwarts. Luckily, they found Remus and Alice helping others and both Peter and Martha joined them. They all then helped others reach Hogwarts before going inside themselves.
It was after reaching Hogwarts and being checked by Madam Pomfrey that Peter and Martha calmed down and let their guard down. Martha thanked Peter for saving her while Peter thanked her for helping him. From there, they began talking and at the end of the day, they had become friends. They began exchanging letters before eventually meeting on the final Hogsmeade weekend before the break. He told his parents about that day and their date. He then told them how they became a couple. His parents told him that they both liked her very much and that she was a great girl. They jokingly warned him that he better treat her right or they would disown him. Peter laughed and said he would keep that in mind. He was happy that his parents, especially his father liked Martha and approved of her. Because his feelings for Martha were only growing and he knew that what they had was something special.
