Chapter 6- Jake
The winter is starting to turn milder, the snow less frequent, the air less biting. I can visit my wolf more often now without the fear that my lungs would freeze. There had been a time earlier this month that the cold had to keep me away for days at a time. I had feared that my wolf would forget about me. Or worse that he hadn't existed at all and I had made him up in my head to cope with my loneliness. Thankfully on those cold evenings Mrs. Mabel was kind enough to keep the library open late for me even though the need for it in a town so small was rare. And even more thankfully, everytime I went to see my wolf, he was still there.
Today was an odd day nearing the end of January where the weather was very mild. The sun shone and even the breeze almost felt warm against my skin. The snow was melting in the roads causing the pavement to shine with a thick coat of water. I only needed to wrap myself up in a thick sweater and scarf as opposed to layers of sweaters topped with a heavy parka.
My boots sloshed and slapped against the wet road as I almost gleefully skipped my way down my street towards the woods. Caught up in my joy of the nie weather I didn't see the passerby until I had bumped right into them.
"Woah there, are you alright?" The smoothest most beautiful voice said. SUrpised I looked up to see the most beautiful man I had ever seen. He was tall, like really tall. With short dark hair, tanned skin, a sharp jawline and the most dazzling smile I had ever seen.
"I-I'm alright. Sorry for bumping into you there." I stuttered.
"Hey, no worries at all. I'm Jake." He held out his hand to shake. His hand was so warm, it immediately made me think of my wolf. I smiled slightly at the coincidence of their names.
"I'm Cassie. It's nice to meet you. Are you from around here? I thought I had seen everyone from town at this point." I said back shyly.
"It's nice to meet you too. I live on the rez. I was just walking back from visiting a are you off to in such a hurry on this fine afternoon?" he answered.
"Oh, I'm just headed over to the path to go on a little walk. The forest is so beautiful this time of year." I said.
" Well best be careful, there are all kinds of creatures out there." he said with an almost knowing smile.
"Will do thanks. I should head off so I still have some good time out there before the sun sets."
"Enjoy the weather. I'll see you around." He said.
We both walked our separate ways. I couldn't help the smile that grew on my face. I really really did hope I would see him again soon.
