Hi!
I had a bit of not-writers-block-but-a-lack-of-inspiration-to-write in the new year. However, in the last few days, I've been getting a much more encouraging urge to write so I've written an absolute ton of chapters and started one shots in the last week so this story will hopefully be completed soon.
Guest: Thank you for your review, I'm glad you're liking it! The next chapter should be done soon and thank you for reading! :)
I hope you enjoy!
"What is that?" Fontaine asked, turning to Finn for an answer.
Finn just shrugged and continued looking.
"I don't know, it's coming this way though," he said, still slumped against the canopy-turned-wall of the rover, seeming terribly unconcerned.
"You do realise that we could get hurt, right?" Fontaine stared as she stared at Finn, who was still sat there, perfectly calm, "My family are busy helping my brother and your sister from getting boiled alive, there's no one to help us, so if whatever this is turns out to be dangerous, we're going to have to face it by ourselves, you realise that, right?"
" I don't think it's going to be dangerous, Fontaine, " Finn replied, eyes still focused on the unknown object.
" How'd you figure that? " Fontaine asked, still staring at him.
"It looks like your brother's knight," Finn said.
" What? " Fontaine turned to look at the object and as it got closer she could indeed see that it really did resemble the shadow knight.
"How's that possible? Ant is still stuck in the clam, who's driving the shadow knight?" Fontaine asked in confusion as said knight got closer and closer.
"Er, it looks empty," Finn said as it got much closer, almost touching the rover now, the glass window displaying no inhabitants.
"It can't be, it's full of water, I just don't understand how it's-" Fontaine stopped mid-sentence as the mystery driver came into view.
" Is that a fish? " Finn asked, not quite catching onto Fontaine's silence.
"Uh," she was still struggling to find something to say, " yeah, it's Ant's fish, Jeffrey, "
Jeffrey looked very proud, blowing bubbles in happiness as he looked at the pair of strange humans sat before him, both of them looking surprised for different reasons.
"Hi, Jeffrey, can you get us out of here?" Finn asked as though cooing to a baby.
" Finn, it's a fish, it can't understand you or get us out of here, " Fontaine reminded him.
"It managed to control your knight, it obviously knows something," Finn pointed out.
"Yeah, but it's a fish, Finn, you're starting to sound like Ant," Fontaine replied.
Jeffrey's eyes were flicking between the two teens and he seemed to almost roll his eyes at Fontaine and then suddenly, the knight turned around and swam away.
"Fontaine, you just scared away our only chance of rescue!" Finn exclaimed.
"Me, seriously? What did I do? And, it's a fish, Finn, it couldn't help us even if it understood what it was doing," Fontaine sighed.
"What's he doing?" Finn asked.
"It's a fish, Finn," Fontaine repeated.
"Yeah, but he's going somewhere," Finn said.
"He's swimming away from us because he's a fish stuck in a knight that he can't control," Fontaine said.
"He's going over to our dads," Finn pointed out.
"He can't be, he's just swimming in that general direction because he's lost," Fontaine told him, watching as Jeffrey swam over to where Hammerhead and Will were.
"No, he's definitely going to our dads, look, he's right next to your dad," Finn said, to which Fontaine rolled her eyes, although she had to admit, Jeffrey did seem to know where he was going.
Hammerhead and Will had actually been getting on quite well since they had been sent out by Kaiko to delay the volcano.
They had been talking about lots of random nothingness but they had been fairly civil with one another and they had become quite the team as Hammerhead piled up rocks to block the inevitable, soon-to-come lava and Will helped to move the rocks to the correct place.
Suddenly, Will saw a flash in the corner of his eye and the next minute, a metal arm bumped him.
He turned around abruptly and stopped still in confusion when he saw the empty shadow knight located a few steps away.
His son was stuck in a clam, who was controlling this knight?
"Jeffrey?" He asked, puzzled upon seeing the vibrant fish, blowing bubbles in the knight, "How did you get in there?" He asked before shaking his head and saying, with a touch of amusement, "What am I doing? Fontaine would feed me to a monumential if she knew I was talking to a fish," he laughed at this thought.
Jeffrey blew more bubbles before somehow turning the knight around and swimming a few feet away before turning around again.
"It looks like he wants me to follow," Will mumbled under his breath before calling over to the pirate who wasn't too far behind him," Hammerhead! I'm just looking over here, are you coming?"
Hammerhead swam over, "An' where we goin'?" He asked.
"Er, we're following Jeffrey I think," Will replied, keeping his eyes on the fish.
"What's a Jeffrey?" the pirate asked, stopping still when he saw Jeffrey in the shadow knight, "What's that?" He gestured in Jeffrey's general direction.
"Um, Jeffrey," Will declared, beginning to follow after the fish.
Hammerhead started grumbling complaints under his breath but he was ignored by Will and he decided to follow after the Nekton anyway.
"Where are we going, Jeffrey?" Will asked after a few moments of trailing after the fish, closely followed by Hammerhead.
Jeffrey obviously didn't respond with words but he did seem to be more alert upon hearing this and the knight seemed to speed up a little.
After a few more moments, which were spent in silence asides from Hammerhead's incessant mumbling about how following a fish was ridiculous, Jeffrey led them a little lower, closer to the sea floor until, eventually, he stopped still, not too far away from a large lump of mud and dirt.
"What are we doing here, Jeffrey?" Will asked while Hammerhead just rolled his eyes and carried on grumbling out complaints.
"It's a fish, Nekton, it doesn't know where it's going!" Hammerhead declared.
Jeffrey seemed to roll his eyes again before swimming closer to the mud lump.
"Wait! He's coming back!" Finn said suddenly, pointing at the knight which was indeed coming closer, "and there's your dad! And my dad! Jeffrey's rescuing us!"
Fontaine still didn't think that a fish could rescue them but she couldn't deny that Will was indeed getting closer.
" Come one! " she said, leaping to her feet, closely followed by Finn, " we have to get their attention! "
The pair began waving their arms madly and yelling at the top of their lungs until, eventually, Will and Hammerhead seemed to notice them.
"I don't understand, Jeffrey, what are you trying to show us? I don't - " Will paused when he noticed his daughter, "Down there!" He called to Hammerhead , gesturing to the children who were still desperately trying to gain their attention.
"Fontaine? What are you doing?" Will asked as he and Hammerhead swam closer.
"My boy!" Hammerhead yelled when he reached the mud lump.
"I don't think they can hear us," Will concluded when the two of them stopped waving but gained confused expressions .
"Finn?" Hammerhead screeched loudly.
"They can't hear us," Will repeated, calmly.
" FINN! " Hammerhead yelled again.
"Hammerhead! They can't hear us," Will repeated, louder.
Hammerhead let out a loud sigh but stopped yelling.
"Fontaine!" Will half-yelled mainly so he could mouth his words to her, " We can't hear you! "
"GET US OUT" Fontaine mouthed back, though apparently quite loud judging by Finn's reaction.
"We will," Will nodded, forgetting to over accentuate his words.
" WHAT? " Fontaine yelled.
"I said: WE WILL!" Will yelled back, making sure to mouth his words to Fontaine, forgetting somehow that they couldn't hear him.
Fontaine gave him a thumbs up and Finn nodded.
Now, how to get them out of there?
I actually didn't realise how similar Hammerhead and Fontaine sound when they're talking about Jeffrey until I was editing this. XD
Also, thank you so much to AshyGurl101 for asking about Jeffrey a few chapters ago, I've been waiting for weeks to be able to show you what he's up to.
I hope you enjoyed this chapter, the next one should be coming soon, hopefully sooner than this one came.
Thank you so much for reading!
Please review and let me know what you think!
