I do not own Witcher or any of the characters.
Masquerade
Eldin sighed as he leaned against the wall, tugging at the collar of his fancy clothes. He hated dressing well, but it was worth it to see both Renfri and Aralyn look so beautiful. Aralyn had an extravagant forest green dress and her hair in a braided bun while Renfri had on an equally beautiful maroon dress, her hair hanging free just past her shoulders. They'd been waiting for hours, but finally, Anna arrived, wearing a black and gold dress more extravagant than either of Eldin's girls and with a gilded, white half-mask covering the upper half of her face. Her red hair was in a tight bun, and as her eyes surveyed the three of them, all three caught them linger on Renfri for a moment longer. That was fair, given her choice of dresses. While Anna and Aralyn's dresses were more conservative and had collars up to their necks, Renfri's own dress was in a style not from Toussaint. It also had a high collar, but then had an opening over her upper chest, exposing her cleavage, and the back was open from just below her neck until just above her waist. She looked beautiful in it, but would also stand out in a crowd.
"Well, well," Anna smiled. "I must admit, I did not expect you to have such sense of style, Eldin."
"I don't," Eldin said. "Aralyn picked my outfit."
Anna nodded. "That seems much more believable. And as for you," she again looked to Renfri, "I've never seen such a dress before, but you do look quite lovely in it. I believe I may have a dress like that made for myself after tonight."
Renfri smiled deeply and curtseyed, all but glowing from the compliment. Anna smiled slightly, inclining her head toward Renfri before returning her gaze to Eldin.
"One last detail," Anna said. "Here. Put these on."
She handed each of them a half-mask, all three pulling them on. Eldin's was both mostly black with gold designs, while Aralyn and Renfri's were identical to Anna's.
"All who attend the Mandragora Soirée wear them," Anna explained. "If you have it on, no one asks who you are."
"Any idea why they wear masks?" Eldin asked.
"Likely because they imagine it oh so romantic and mysterious," Anna said, tone almost mocking. "The truth is far simpler. This way, no one can tell which drunken aristocrats are pinching the performers."
"We should head in," Aralyn suggested. "We're already late."
Anna nodded. "Indeed. Wise of you to hide your weapons. They'd not have let us in, otherwise."
"We only hid our swords," Eldin shrugged. "Aralyn's got her daggers, and me and Renfri recently acquired some new ones."
"I feel I should scold you, but perhaps it is for the best that you brought them," Anna commented, walking behind Renfri. "We know nothing of this Cintrian, so it is best to be prepared for the worst."
Eldin nodded. "That was our thinking, yes."
A few minutes later, they were inside of Lady Orianna's estate, where the soirée was taking place, searching not for the Cintrian, but for his companion for the party, Cecilia Bellante, a popular singer. Their only chance of finding her, however, was a hint that she wore a Koviri Orchid in her hair. Beyond that, they had no information. So, they had split up. Aralyn had gone with Eldin, and Renfri with Anna. However, aside from looking for Cecilia, they were also enjoying the party's entertainment. There was an Ofieri Sorcerer who was entertaining the crowd through illusions, absinthe, paint balls to be thrown at canvas, food, gossip, bards. As Eldin and Aralyn walked down one side of a fountain taking up the center of the courtyard, Eldin took his third shot of absinthe, glancing up at the balcony where Orianna, the party's host, was watching the party, only to find her staring at him and Aralyn. He smiled kindly, and returned his eyes to the party, as well as the spectacle he and Aralyn had been keeping an eye on all night. Renfri, trying every trick under the sun to win over Anna, and seeming to be very slowly making progress. Unfortunately, that seemed to be the only progress being made. Neither group had found a woman with a Koviri Orchid in her hair.
"Oi!" a gruff voice snapped from behind them, both turning to the drunken man glaring at Aralyn. "Why th' fuck is there a knife-ear here!? This party is only for artists!"
Aralyn sighed. "You really should choose your words more carefully. Gently, Eldin."
"Of course," Eldin smiled at her, stepping forward.
The drunk seemed to comprehend what was about to happen, because he immediately threw a haymaker at Eldin, several of the guests around them shouting in surprise and fear. However, before anyone could worry, Eldin had ducked under the punch and delivered one of his own to the man's diaphragm, making him lose consciousness instantly but not dealing any lasting harm. He set the man on a bench gently so that the man could recover in peace, then looked around as the impromptu audience cheered and clapped. Across the courtyard, Renfri and Anna were just stepping out of a small room off to one side, Renfri signaling Eldin and gesturing to a set of tables off to one side, where guests could sit and eat. Eldin nodded subtly, excusing himself from the crowd of guests, who parted for him and Aralyn. They headed for the tables, meeting Renfri and Anna there.
"The orchid was tossed into the crowd after Cecilia's performance, but the woman who caught it said the Cintrian gave Cecilia a heart-shaped box," Renfri explained, holding up said box. "It held a flask of perfume."
Eldin took the box and sniffed it, humming thoughtfully. "Expensive. Our Cintrian friend isn't cheap with his affection."
"Can you track the smell?" Anna asked. "You Witchers are able to do such things, yes?"
"Of course," Eldin nodded.
Together, he and Renfri took the lead, following the smell of the perfume at a leisurely stroll, Aralyn and Anna trailing behind them.
"Your companion, Renfri, confuses me," Anna said softly to Aralyn, mistakenly believing Eldin and Renfri couldn't hear her. "Is she not you and Eldin's lover?"
"She is," Aralyn nodded. "Why do you ask?"
"She has made no attempts to hide her attempts to court me," Anna explained. "I understand that the three of you care little for monogamy, but have you really no issue with her...pursuing others?"
"None at all," Aralyn shook her head. "We three are strange in our views, because we base our views on a life of travelling together at all times. My heart and Eldin's belong to each other exclusively, and Renfri is our dearest friend. We three are lovers, but we three also have come to an agreement that we see no issue with including others, either separately or among the three of us. Renfri, not being in love with either myself or Eldin, is the most likely to see the company of another, in this case, you, and we have no issue with that. We've also informed her that we have no issue with her bringing any companion she may choose into bed with us either. I'm not saying anything about you specifically. Though, I am curious why you feel the need to clarify things. Are you finding yourself attracted to Renfri, as well?"
Anna seemed to hesitate for a moment. "She is...interesting. Mysterious and guarded, relentless, yet tactful. She is constantly pressing the issue, yet gently doing so, and masking it as though it were only my imagination and my wish for her to. She's very skilled at it. I suppose, if I am honest, there is a bit of...curiosity, but that is all."
Aralyn nodded, smiling. "Well, I have no place in telling you what to do, but I do have a vested interest in Renfri's happiness. So instead of suggesting one thing or another, I'll merely pose a question. What do you have to lose?"
Anna blinked in surprise, opening her mouth to respond, only for Eldin to interrupt.
"We've arrived," Eldin announced, Renfri too busy grinning from ear to ear at the confirmation of progress to be trusted to speak. "They went through this door."
Anna nodded, and they walked into the bottom floor of Orianna's manor, only for a bodyguard blocking the door deeper in to stop them.
"Only artists from the Mandragora allowed," the man denied them.
"We must consider what to do," Anna said quietly.
"I'd recognize that voice anywhere," the man said, realization dawning on his face.
"You-" Anna began.
"We're here on state business and incognito," Eldin warned the bodyguard quickly. "We need to speak with Cecilia Bellante."
The bodyguard nodded. "She entered the dressing room not long ago, along with a nobleman. They were clearly...drawn to each other."
"What'd he look like?" Aralyn asked.
"Tall, broad-shouldered," the bodyguard recalled. "He spoke with a foreign accent, a drawl, of sorts."
"That must be him," Renfri nodded. "We need to get to that dressing room."
"I'll take you," the bodyguard nodded.
"No, you stay here," Eldin instructed. "If anyone tries to flee, you stop them."
The man nodded, and the four of them passed the bodyguard, heading deeper inside. They ascended a flight of stairs, then entered the dressing room, only to find a woman that was probably Cecilia lying on the floor, her throat slit and her eyes staring lifelessly at the ceiling.
"That...That must be Cecilia," Anna breathed as Eldin knelt to check for life.
"We're too late," Eldin sighed.
"He...He slit her throat," Anna said softly allowing Renfri to pull her back to the door by the hand, where she couldn't see the corpse. "The brute."
"It's alright," Renfri said reassuringly. "You're safe with me."
Anna merely nodded, her hand holding Renfri's firmly.
"The Cintrian didn't go out the door," Eldin mused. "The guard would have noticed. "Which means that he's got some other business here than simply killing Cecilia."
"You must find him," Anna said. "I shall alert Orianna at once. She should bring her Soirée to a close."
"Right," Eldin nodded, seeing Anna pulling Renfri's hand subtly to ask her to come with her.
Anna left, Renfri following behind her, still holding her hand and flashing Eldin and Aralyn wide grin.
"She's making more progress than I was expecting her to," Eldin smirked.
"Agreed," Aralyn nodded. "So, which way did our assassin go?"
"Balcony," Eldin said, walking out onto it. "Bloody handprint show's his exit, and the door torn from the frame and used as a bridge shows he only killed Cecilia because he was using her to get into the party, but then had to get away from her. She outlived her usefulness to him."
Aralyn nodded as both crossed the makeshift bridge to the next balcony. On the other side, there was a broken flower pot and a trail of dirty footprints. Eldin followed them quickly, Aralyn just behind him, both prepared to draw their daggers at a moment's notice, if necessary. They ascended a ladder to the next floor, onto a balcony, then entered the room attached to the balcony. Inside, however, were the clear signs of a fight. There was a shattered mirror and signs of someone slamming into it then sinking to the floor, blood stains on the floor a good distance from the mirror, a jewelry box that had been picked open but now was empty, a broken chain necklace and an abandoned, valuable pendent beside it, a bloody fingerprint resting on the face of the pendent, a spilled inkwell, a bent, bloodied sconce on the wall like someone had tried to grab it but it hadn't held, a bloody smear on the open windowsill beside the bent sconce, a slashed painting, and a beautifully ornamented hunting knife abandoned on the ground.
"Our Cintrian friend came for the necklace, which was in the lock box," Eldin mused, recreating the scene in his head, Aralyn smiling interestedly, as she always did when he investigated an area and told her what happened, always being right. "Someone interrupted and they fought. The necklace broke, and the Cintrian, wielding the knife, tried to fight them. Whoever intervened threw our Cintrian friend into the mirror. I can still smell hints of Cecilia's perfume from it. The Cintrian recovered, probably drew the knife then, and tried to attack. Slashed the painting, knocked over the ink well, and then somehow ended up falling from the window when the sconce couldn't hold his weight. He's probably dead now, which doesn't help us, much. The knife, on the other hand, might. It's too beautiful a weapon to be a random tool of theft. It's probably a personal keepsake of the Cintrian, which happened to be on his person during the fight."
"So, we're looking for someone who can fight off an armed attacker without being hurt?" Aralyn asked.
"And can throw the thief across the room into the mirror," Eldin nodded.
Just then, the door opened, two bodyguards entering just ahead of Anna and Orianna, Renfri bringing up the rear.
"So, this is the other Witcher and his fetching elven companion," Orianna mused.
"Indeed," Anna nodded. "We four found the body together, then these two set off in pursuit of the killer."
"And ended up here," Eldin gestured around. "But I've only found evidence of a fight. It seems the Cintrian has committed his last crime. He fell from the window. Shame he couldn't have decided to get some fresh air before killing Cecilia."
"Poor girl," Orianna sighed, walking into the room. "Always told her she chose her males badly. But I never would have suspected she could arrive with a murderer." She stopped at the window, pausing for a moment. "I'll alert the staff, have them see to her body at once. Meanwhile, we should sit. I'll tell you everything. In full detail."
Eldin glanced at Aralyn, who shrugged. They followed Orianna up to a balcony overlooking the courtyard, and all sat down around a table. Orianna began to describe finding the Cintrian stealing and attacking him so he couldn't escape. She described him slamming his head into a picture frame, drawing a knife, then described knocking the knife from his hand and pushing him out a window. She didn't mention the smashed mirror, but parts of the story added up. Unfortunately, enough of it didn't for Eldin to know she was hiding something. He looked to Aralyn, and she mouthed the word "Vampire" at him when Orianna wasn't looking. Eldin nodded subtly, as did Renfri, and they all remained mostly quiet, feigning belief in Orianna's version of events. Finally, Eldin pulled out the jewel the thief had been after. Anna immediately recognized it as something called the Heart of Toussaint. Orianna claimed to have bought it years ago from a young woman, and Anna claimed the jewel to be a family heirloom which had gone missing years ago. Orianna produced a very detailed, very accurate drawing of the jewel, saying the Cintrian's tool bag had been found, the drawing among its contents.
"You were right, then, it would seem," Anna spoke up. "It is not the Cintrian we seek, but his employer."
Eldin nodded. "And with the Cintrian dead, that leaves only the drawing and one other piece of evidence. The killer's weapon." He set it on the table so Anna could inspect it. "It's too ornate to be a killer's weapon. It's made for skinning game after a hunt."
"The crest on the hilt is used by the lords of Dun Tynne," Anna identified the emblem. "The present master of the castle is a passionate hunter. Perhaps he is the employer."
"I doubt it," Eldin shook his head. "More likely the Cintrian met the employer at a hunt orchestrated by the lord of Dun Tynne. I doubt the master of the castle himself is the employer, but Dun Tynne is looking to be a good place to visit."
Anna nodded. "I agree."
"Lady Orianna, I'm sure you can understand that we're hoping for, or rather counting on, your discretion," Eldin said. "We need everything that has happened tonight, everything we've discussed, to remain unknown to all."
"Discretion is in the best interest of us all," Orianna agreed. "I will not ask what this is about just as I do not want to be troubled about it again. By anyone."
Anna and Eldin's group all nodded just as a servant asked Orianna for a word in private, leading her away.
"Something you should know," Eldin said once Orianna was gone. "This drawing's on the same paper and in the same ink as the names provided to the Beast of Beauclair. The blackmailer's behind this attempted theft as well."
"And behind the theft of the Sangreal," Anna nodded.
"Setting aside the four murdered knights, the necklace and wine are tied to you specifically," Eldin said. "We know there's one more victim, and that they'll likely have ties to the team of knights already killed, or to a specific job they were given. What are the chances that your name is the last to be sent?"
Anna considered, but when she answered, she sounded unsure, as though trying to convince herself more than them. "While not outside of the realm of possibility, I feel it's unlikely. It...It could be something else altogether." Finally, she stood, walking over to the balcony railing, and sighed. "My sister, Syanna, might be among the schemers. She left court when we were children. My parents banished her from the duchy. I've not seen her since."
"What'd she do to get banished?" Renfri asked.
"Syanna was...cursed," Anna said hesitantly. "At least, that was what my parents were told by a sorcerer."
Renfri scoffed, then cursed under her breath. "Stregobor. It was the Curse of the Black Sun, right?"
Anna nodded. "I have never known for sure if I believed in the curse." She looked to Eldin and Renfri. "Is it true? Can an individual be evil because they were born during the wrong lunar phase?"
"No," Eldin said firmly. "The Curse of Black Sun is superstitious bullshit. People are evil because that's what they become when people treat them as such. Renfri also supposedly bears the Curse of Black Sun, but she's not evil. She's one of the most loyal people I know. When we met, she was teetering on the edge of being evil, but not because she was born that way. She was driven to it by the same sorcerer who told her parents, and yours, that the Curse of Black Sun had gifted them with an evil child. He sent numerous assassins after her, who decided to rape her instead of kill her, drove her from several different homes, tried to poison her, tried to manipulate her, even turned her into a crystal at one point. And finally, she cornered him, and after everything he'd done to her, after how long he'd made her suffer, she was ready and willing to do anything to kill him."
"Fortunately, Eldin and Aralyn managed to talk me down, and then managed to save me," Renfri spoke up. "They took me traveling with them, taught me to live without the hatred that had festered my whole life. They saved me from becoming the monster I was accused of being."
"So...my sister never needed to be banished?" Anna asked.
"That's right," Renfri nodded. "And after being banished, she's probably in the same place as I was, maybe worse." She stopped, then looked to Eldin. "She's the blackmailer. She's Rhenawedd."
"I think you're right," Eldin nodded. "Shit. That complicates things a bit. It's going to be a lot harder to find a peaceful solution."
Renfri nodded.
"You believe the one blackmailing the Beast of Beauclair is my sister?" Anna asked. "But...how would she accomplish such a thing?"
Eldin considered, but then shook his head. Anna wouldn't understand that part yet. Wasn't ready for it. She still didn't view vampires as sentient or intelligent. Not fully.
"Anna, who escorted your sister from the ducky?" Aralyn asked. "Was it the Beast's victims?"
Anna nodded. "A decade past. More. They were the four chosen to safely see Syanna from the duchy."
"I mean no offense, but is there a chance that she didn't go politely and they treated her harshly while escorting her?" Eldin asked. "If she was already being banished by her family, and the knights were harsh to her on the way, that could have then festered in her heart until she wished the four of them dead specifically. And if that's the case, that would make you the fifth and final target for being the daughter your parents favored and for being the Dutchess while she remains banished."
Anna considered, then nodded. "That would make sense. Now listen to me. You must go to Dun Tynne, find Syanna if she is there, and bring her to me. No matter what she has done, she is not to be harmed, at all. Am I clear?"
"I'll do my best, Your Grace, but if the Beast should, for any reason, try to kill her, I can't promise she won't be harmed in the ensuing battle," Eldin warned. "Only that I will try my best to protect her and kill the Beast. However, I'm still hoping to avoid being forced to fight him."
Anna nodded. "And I, to my own surprise, am hoping for a peaceful solution as well. It would be the best option, as you said."
Eldin nodded just as Orianna returned with two guests. The first was Regis, who Anna recognized by name, though not as a Higher Vampire. The second, however, was Detlaff. Eldin tensed, suddenly hyper-aware that he had no sword, elixirs, or decoctions with him. He didn't even have his mask. To either side of him, Aralyn and Renfri also went rigid, staring at Detlaff, who showed no sign of recognizing any of the three.
"This is my very dear friend, Detlaff van der Eretein," Regis introduced Detlaff to Anna. "He's just arrived from Nazair. We are lending our combined resources to the Witcher's hunt."
"Ah, yes, splendid," Anna nodded. "But why are you here, at Orianna's."
"They came to pay me a surprise visit," Orianna supplied, "so I invited Regis in for a glass of wine. We've known each other for...ooh, ages, literally."
Eldin tensed further at the confirmation of three Higher Vampires being present, one of them having already come within seconds of killing him once.
"Witcher, I hear that you know Regis, too," Orianna said. "Even that you are...friends."
"Yes," Eldin nodded, forcing his body to relax, Aralyn and Renfri doing the same. "We only met recently, but he's a good man. It's an honor to know he considers me a friend."
Regis smiled, nodding. "Indeed, I do."
"You said you're both aiding him with his contract," Orianna said as she sat. "It involves the Beast of Beauclair, I suspect? Master Witcher, or Mistress Witcher, perhaps one of you could satisfy my curiosity. What's it like, going toe-to-toe with a monster? Knowing you've only got two options, to kill or be killed?"
Eldin took a moment to think, Renfri allowing him to answer, as he was the one planning to try and negotiate with Detlaff. "If those are my only options, then I've already failed."
"Oh?" Orianna asked.
"A lot of monsters aren't so different from animals," Eldin explained, "just more dangerous. A wyvern kills for the same reasons as a panther, or a wolf, it just eats more, flies, and is poisonous. It's still only eating to survive, though. Most times, monsters could be controlled or managed like any animal, though killing them is necessary more often than animals simply for the danger they possess. Other kinds of monsters kill because that's just how they are, like a Leshy, and Witchers hunt them to extinction because there isn't any other way for them to exist safely. The last kind of monsters are intelligent, like any human. With those, you can reason, or negotiate, or coexist, if you want to. With those types of monsters, if it comes to a "kill-or-be-killed" situation, it's because I've failed at negotiating and have done something to offend the creature. I very much prefer jobs where talking gets the job done."
"And what might a monster want to say to a Witcher?" Orianna prompted.
Detlaff, who had sat to Orianna's right, answered. "It might want to apologize."
"My word," Anna said, eyebrows raised in surprise. "And what might a monster want to apologize for to a Witcher?"
"For killing," Detlaff reasoned. "Thought, at times there is no choice. When loved ones are at risk and require protection."
"No different than a human," Eldin nodded. "Put them in that situation, and they'll kill, too. I certainly would be willing to kill anyone or anything to protect Aralyn and Renfri, even if its the last thing I do."
Detlaff's head inclined just slightly, signaling he'd received and understood the warning. "You understand this well. It must be why you and Regis are friends. If I understand you correctly, you would rather help a monster than kill it, provided it does not threaten your two lovers or otherwise act as a beast?"
"I would want to try," Eldin nodded. "Provided the monster didn't slaughter innocents or else threaten Renfri and Aralyn, I'd very much prefer to resolve things peacefully. If it can't be resolved peacefully, then so be it. The monster and I can both act as mindless brutes and try and kill each other then, but I'd very much prefer to avoid that."
Detlaff hummed thoughtfully.
"Enough about the Witcher's trade for now," Anna spoke up. "Regis mentioned you come from Nazair. I spent time there as a child."
"Fond memories?" Detlaff asked.
"It was wonderful," Anna nodded, smiling. "I was positively entranced by the land's fashions. Deep cut dresses I found most fascinating."
"I believe we're running short on wine," Orianna said. "I should go to the cellar, bring another bottle."
"Allow me," Eldin smiled, standing. "Regis, I recall you know your wine better than me, care to help me avoid offending Her Grace?"
"I'd be happy to," Regis nodded. "Detlaff, apologies for pulling you from your conversation, but perhaps you could join us? I have a question I've been forgetting to ask you, and I should like the Witcher's opinion as well, while he's here."
Detlaff nodded, excusing himself politely, and followed Eldin and Regis into the building. After a few minutes, they had found the basement, which was still above ground and included a balcony, where the wine was stored. There, out of earshot of everyone, the true conversation began.
"How do you intend to help me?" Detlaff asked.
"I intend to find your blackmailer," Eldin explained. "We're getting close already, and once we do, we'll hand you the person who kidnapped Rhenawedd."
"At which point, you'll no longer have any reason to kill anyone," Regis added.
Detlaff nodded. "I'm not opposed to this idea. And, for the record, I apologize for not listening to you when last we met."
"I don't blame you," Eldin said. "I'm a Witcher, and I had my sword drawn. You reacted reasonably for the situation."
"As did you," Detlaff nodded. "What can you tell me about the kidnapper?"
Eldin considered. "First, I have a question. What would you do to someone who had betrayed you?"
"I would kill them," Detlaff growled. "I would tear them limb from limb."
"What if the one to betray you was a dear friend?" Eldin asked. "Or someone you truly care about? Could you forgive them? Could you learn to let their betrayal go without killing them?"
Detlaff considered. "Possibly. Why?"
"Because the identity of the kidnapper is still a mystery, but it's clearly someone who knows you well," Eldin said. "There's a chance it may be someone you know personally."
Detlaff growled again, then paused, then let out a long, slow, forceful breath. "I will attempt to overlook betrayal, if possible. However, I will be killing the kidnapper."
"Anna Henrietta's long lost sister is mixed up in this somehow," Eldin said. "I don't know how yet, and I don't know for sure she's not a hostage, but I've been ordered to confirm that and to bring her home to Anna Henrietta. Unharmed. I've got something to look into, which should tell me the identity and location of the blackmailer. As soon as I have that information, I'll pass it along to the two of you, and we can all go and find the blackmailer together. Does that sound acceptable?"
Regis looked to Detlaff, who nodded.
"Acceptable," Detlaff nodded. "I appreciate you not being like the rumors of your kind."
"I could say the same," Eldin said. "Now, let's choose a wine and head back."
Regis nodded, picking up a bottle seemingly at random, and they all made their way back. As they arrived, however, Anna was saying goodby to Orianna and thanking her for her hospitality.
"Eldin, perfect timing," Anna greeted him. "Unfortunately, it is time for me to excuse myself. Would you and your two companions care to escort me back to my palace? Damien would be angry with me, should I return alone."
"Happy to," Eldin nodded. "Regis, I'll see you around."
Regis nodded, he and Detlaff taking turns shaking Eldin's hand before Eldin bowed to Orianna, then joined Anna and the others as they left Orianna's manor.
"Interesting night," Anna commented.
"Agreed," Aralyn nodded. "Did your conversation with Regis and Detlaff go well?"
"I'd say so," Eldin nodded. "I'm glad to have them both willing to support our efforts to make peace."
Aralyn and Renfri nodded in understanding.
"You will meet Damien and his guardsmen at Count de la Croix's mill, near the Cockatrice Inn," Anna instructed. "They will arrive at midnight, and then you will assault Dun Tynne castle together."
"Understood," Eldin nodded. "Would you care for an escort home?"
"I'll be fine," Anna assured them. "You must get moving in order to reach the meeting on time."
Eldin nodded, and he, Aralyn, and Renfri all quickly retrieved their clothes and headed to a quiet, abandoned back alley where they changed, armed themselves, and abandoned their fancy clothing. They headed quickly out of Beauclair, reaching the meeting point only a few minutes before Damien and his guardsmen. Then from there, they all headed out to raid Dun Tynne castle.
