Aang was asleep on Appa as he woke up, yawning and rubs his eyes. Their campsite was serene, several birds fluttering about. The birds suddenly flew away as a bomb was launched their way, splashing through the waterfall fountain. Aang grew suddenly alert, rising and using his glider to airbend the bomb away. The bomb exploded far off. Two more bombs pelted the building. Everyone was now fully awake.
Aang raced toward the edge of the building, glider in hand. A Fire Nation airship came into view. It launched another bomb that sailed through the air and crashed into a nearby bridge. Aang ran back to the campsite, Appa following close behind, and used airbending to force the large, ceiling-high metal doors surrounding their site to close. Several bombs continued to assail the temple. A portion of the ceiling roof, began to crumble and finally caves in. Kuri was standing directly beneath the crumbling ceiling. She looked up, alarmed, only to be pushed out of the way by Zuko
As he ran and pushes her out of harm's way Zuko cried. "Watch out!"
They rolled across the floor, the debris from the ceiling crashing several feet away from them. They finally settled on the ground.
"Thank you," Kuri breathed.
Zuko smiled.
There was a section of the wall where a hole was bored through. Reiko and Haru, had created the exit way using earthbending.
"Come on!" Reiko beckoned. "We can get out through here!"
Everyone began entering the passageway. Aang stayed behind, trying to get Appa to leave with him by pulling on the bison's reins. He spotted Zuko standing, facing the airships.
"What are you doing?" Aang asked.
"Go ahead! I'll hold them off. I think this is a family visit." Zuko ran off.
Kuri grabbed his hand and ran off with him.
Sokka and Katara ran up to him. "Zuko! Kuri! No!"
"Come on! We've gotta get out of here!" Aang cried.
Aang, Katara, and Sokka began pulling on the reins together in an attempt to budge Appa. The doors of the building, continued to be destroyed. Debris continued to fall to the ground as Zuko raced toward the doors and leapt over to the other side just as another piece of the door fell and shattered. Zuko ran toward the airships. One bomb was launched and landed several feet before him where it detonated. Thick gray plumes of smoke rose; after a brief moment, Zuko emerged from the smoke cover, unharmed.
He firebended a large blast from his hand. The airship received the blow. Zuko stood near the edge of the temple, looking at the airships. A podium-like devise suddenly rose; standing atop it was Azula. The princess had a maniacal grin on her face.
"What are you doing here?" Zuko demanded.
"You mean it's not obvious yet? I am about to celebrate becoming an only child!" Azula said.
Azula kicked a large blast of flame at her brother. Zuko dodged and ran backward into the temple, but fell. Several blasts were sent his way as the temple began to fall apart. He ran toward the airships. As he jumped toward the ship, he sent several shots toward Azula, but failed to hit her and jumped onto the airship. He fell down into the misty floor below.
Aang and the group were trying to get Appa into the tunnel unsuccessfully.
"I can't get him to go in there! Appa hates tunnels!"
"Aang, there's no way we can fly out of here." Katara said.
"We'll have to find a way!" Aang said.
"We need to split up." Sokka said. "Take the tunnel and get to the stolen airship."
Katara turned around angrily. "No!" She walked up to her father. "The Fire Nation can't separate our family again!"
"It'll be okay. It's not forever." Hakoda assured them.
Katara hesitated before hugging her dad and running back to Aang. Sokka and Hakoda hugged also as Sokka took Suki and ran with the others. The two groups went their separate ways. Reiko was touching a wall.
"I can clear that away and we can fly out through there!" Reiko called.
"Um, there's an awful lot of fire in that general direction ..." Suki said.
"We'll get through. Let's go." Aang said.
Appa flew through to the outside of the temple, covered by a shield of rock in front. Azula tried to bring him down, only for the shield to absorb the blasts. Appa escaped and the shield disintegrates. Behind Azula, a second airship rose, revealing Zuko and Kuri survived the fall by getting onto another airship.
Zuko and Azula faced off, Kuri providing cover. Zuko made the first move. He jumped toward Azula, who sent columns of fire at him, which he responded to with more blasts. The two attacked each other several times.
Appa was dodging fire blasts, as Katara deflected several large whips of fire with her waterbending. The group rose above the airship to avoid more fire.
Back on the airship. Azula and Zuko were evenly matched until they both hit each other with fire-packed punches, launching them both off the airship. Zuko was caught by Kuri, but Azula was left falling.
"She's ... not gonna make it ..." Zuko breathed but then Azula used her firebending to propel herself toward the wall, stopping her fall with her hair pin and saving herself. "Of course she did."
Azula stood on the side of the cliff, smiling evilly. She watched as the team escaped.
