Yeah, probably not the update you guys were hoping for…

If you follow my other stories then you may be aware that I lost the document for the next chapter with no hope of recovery. It's whatever, but not something that would really be much of a setback. However, that was the straw that broke the camel's back, because I hit a wall. This next chapter shouldn't be hard to write, but no matter what I put on paper I'm never satisfied. I've gone through like 7 drafts and I just didn't like any of them. Losing 6,000 words of something decent broke me.

Though my chapters are relatively short compared to other people I pride myself on making sure that they're quality chapters that I know that people will enjoy, and I just never felt that. I can't tell you how many days I just sat in front of my computer and just… didn't write anything. I have the damn book next to me and it still doesn't help. And this writer's block led to another issue.

To make sure every story I write gets the love they deserve I keep to a rotation, and if one story isn't updated it holds the rest of them back, because my mind won't let me skip one without working on the one before it. This problem made me spiral. I just got more and more frustrated with myself and more and more angry when I just couldn't write anything I could be proud of. The Dragon and the Fox was a way to break through that but it's done little. So…

Until further notice, until I genuinely get an idea of where I want to take this story I am officially pausing The Rider's Sentinel. I don't like the word Hiatus, because most stories associated with that word get abandoned. I am not abandoning this, no chance in hell. So I'm pausing it! The Dragon and the Fox will be taking this story's place, unless I begin writing something else.

Like I said, not the update you guys were hoping for, but when it comes to writing mediocrity and laziness is unacceptable to me. I can guarantee that me forcing out a chapter as I am now would be messy, unenjoyable, and boring… I can't do that to you guys, not after waiting half a fucking year.

However, I won't leave you guys with nothing, so here's a preview

"So you're a Dragon Rider? That must be exciting!"

Eragon smiled nervously at his most recent… acquaintance. "Yeah, it's definitely something, heh."

The man laughed, either unaware of how uncomfortable Eragon was, or just uncaring. "Back where I'm from we had tales of dragons too, but they were a lot less friendly than Saphira is. Real beauty; that one!"

He nodded in agreement, content with that at least. "So…" He started after a minute or so of silence, "you said that there's a special weapon somewhere around here?"

"Yep! Real special weapon. Dates back to the Dragon Rider's at least, and I think it's right over… aha!" At the end of the tunnel there was a single glowing stone. It looked… actually Eragon didn't really know what to think of it. It gave off a light like a gemstone but it looked like an ordinary rock. "It's right over there, ya just gotta look over the ledge. I put the stone there last time I was here just to make sure I wouldn't forget, hehe."

The young Rider gave the man an odd look, and with an encouraging affirmation he slowly began walking towards the ledge. The man was a representative from Surda, so he was an ally. But… he was strange. He always seemed happy, as if he was in on some kind of joke that nobody else knew. But he was an ally! So… Eragon would give him the benefit of the doubt.

"Can you see the ledge? I think there was a path down last time I checked, ya just reeealy gotta look for it!" The man called out.

Eragon began leaning over the ledge narrowing his eyes, It was really dark… But just there at the bottom…

"Stop! Eragon! Get away from there right now!"

That was Anri's voice! Eragon whipped around when he heard the sound of metal hitting metal. Anri had the man pinned against the wall of the tunnel with her sword pressed against his neck. She looked furious.

"Hey hey! Let's not get too hasty here~"

"Shut it!" Anri snarled, causing the man to laugh again.

"Hold on! He's an ally! He was trying to help me." Eragon yelled as he jogged over.

"No, he was trying to kill you." She said, pressing the sword even closer against the man's neck.

"Now this is a surprise! Looking a lot better since last time I saw you, less wrinkles~ Find some kind of ointment? Anri?" Eragon blinked. They knew each other? How? Wait… If Anri knew him, then that meant!

"And I was hoping I'd never see your bald head again… Patches…"

The newly named Patches just grinned.
