A/N: Gonna try a third person POV focused on Percy this time. Let me know in the reviews if you like it better like this or first person.
After Percy's... interesting discussion with the huntress they both decided it was best to get rest while they had the opportunity.
Percy wandered around the train for a minute before deciding an empty cart with a view of the passing scenery was as good a place as any.
He plopped down and prayed to the gods for a peaceful, dreamless sleep, but the minute his eyes began to close a familiar yet strange scent filled his nose immediately putting him on edge. Before he could react a voice behind him threw him into action.
"So it's true, huh Perseus?" A man questioned. Percy was instantly on his feet and facing the intruder. His claws remained hidden but he was tensed and ready for whatever might occur. "Gotta say, of all the places to find you this," he paused and motioned around the whole cart, "is definitely the last place I expected."
Slowly all six claws extended from Percy's hand, clicking slightly as they reached their full length.
The man, who was now grinning, didn't seem surprised at all by what he saa. He was a god, that much Percy was sure of, but he couldn't guess which one the smell was... peculiar.
Whoever he was towered over Percy, who stood at a respectable 6'0, his stark white hair seemed to shine in the dim train in contrast to Percy's wild black hair.
While Percy was already quite muscular and defined for a 15 year old, this man unsurprisingly was built like a Greek God.
The unnerving part where his eyes. They were a beady black like something you would see out of a horror movie.
"Relax," Began the man, his radiant smile never fading, "If I was going to harm you I would have done so already."
Percy scoffed but reluctantly willed his claws to slide back into his arms.
"Not like you actually could have done much harm," Percy didn't miss how the man stared at him with mirth in his unnerving black eyes, "Now who are you and what are you doing here?"
The man waved his hand and chairs appeared behind both him and Percy. He sat and motioned for Percy to do the same.
They stared at each other intently; Percy with a look of defiance and anger while the other man remained smiling, seemingly enjoying the encounter so far.
Finally, Percy yielded and sat in the chair with a huff, motioning for the man to talk in a 'go on' manner.
"Ah, finally. Now... who I am is not important yet, and why I'm here will soon be revealed, but you're asking the wrong questions." The man seemed to get even happier at Percy's confused look, which just served to piss him off.
"Then what is the right question?" Percy retorted angrily. The man clapped his hands in delight and leaned forward in the chair.
"Well that one right there was close enough, but the question I was looking for was 'What do I know?'" Percy was now even more confused, but decided it best to keep his mouth shut and let the man explain on his own since it seemed the guy was obviously here to tell him something.
"I was there, you know," Percy obviously did not know, and the man obviously knew that, "Horrible things they did to you lot, definitely not what I had in mind when we made our deals."
Percy's heartbeat quickened, flashes of memories he'd had in his dreams going through his head... surely this man didn't mean...
"Yes those mortals definitely surprised me; the... depth... yes, I suppose that's a fitting word, of their experiments was far beyond what I expected of them." In a flash Percy was standing in front of the man. One hand gripping his long white hair and pulling his head back while the other had one claw out and pressed against his throat.
"What do you know about that?" Percy choked out, a million different thoughts and emotions flooding his mind. The man, however, never let his smile fade.
"Everything," he said with glee, "but right now only one thing matters." Only now did his expression darken, and quicker than a thought Percy was flung across the small cart and slammed into the wall with a thud.
Before he could move the man was on him, with his boot pressing into Percy's throat.
"You're not doing what you were designed to do," Gone was the mirthful man from before, now anger and power radiated from his voice, "you see I made you, to serve me in the war... and now you think you'll go off and ruin our plans by saving this lowly goddess?" Percy struggled to breathe with the mans boot on his throat, much less get out a response.
"I understand our last experiment might have wiped some memories and left you a little... confused... but let me be clear." The man leaned down putting even more pressure on the struggling Percy's throat and getting closer to him.
"This quest will not succeed, and when it's all said and done you would do well to be on the winning side because if not... well let's just say I know special ways to make your life exceptionally miserable." In a flash the man was gone, his booming laugh echoing briefly in the cart.
Percy rolled over and began coughing and gasping while holding his throat tightly.
Even with the man gone he couldn't breathe... couldn't think... he didn't know what to make of what the man said and what it all meant.
His mind was spinning and his head throbbing as he laid back on his back and caught his breath.
That was who created him?
Percy laid there staring at the ceiling in shock for a few more moments before he began to laugh hysterically. He was laughing so hard it brought tears to his eyes.
"Side with the group who fears me so much they can't look at me, and despise me to the point of wanting me dead, or side with the people who created and tortured me." He continued chuckling darkly to himself while going over it all in his head.
For now, all he knew to do was keep going with Annabeth and Zoë and see where this quest took him.
With a sigh he closed his eyes and began to drift off to a hopefully dreamless sleep.
Percy felt like he had just closed his eyes when he felt himself being shaken awake. His eerie yellow eyes slowly opened and met the stormy grey ones of the daughter of Athena.
"S-Sorry," she muttered quickly, "Zoë said we're getting close and to come find you."
Percy sat up slowly and stared at the girl sitting beside him, who's mind was obviously filled with questions.
He left out an exaggerated sigh and braced for the interrogation he was about to bring on, "I know you have questions about me, and if we're going to be on some deadly mission together it's important for us to trust each other as much as possible so..." He saw Annabeth's eyes light up and instantly regretted his decision, "fire away ONE AT A TIME!"
Annabeth looked like a child on Christmas and could barely narrow down her excitement enough to form a question.
"Ok ok so what exactly are you? I mean I know you're a mutant but what really is that? Your kind is so new and as far as I know there's never been one like you with actual intelligence, not that I've seen any but I've heard stories, everyone has, you guys are like-" Percy held up his hand to silence her and she immediately stopped as her face became flushed in embarrassment realizing she'd been rambling.
"Look honestly, I don't know much more than everyone else," Besides what that guy from last night revealed to me, He thought silently to himself, "I know I woke up in the woods with no memories and stumbled across your camp by dumb luck running from monsters that-"
He was cut off by Annabeth saying, "Yea what's with that I thought they were supposed to be like your family, all the other mutants live amongst them don't they?"
Percy mulled it over for a second, unintentionally thinking out loud briefly as he did.
"Yea... unless the monsters were hunting me down to bring me back to them..." Annabeth's face scrunched in confusion.
"Back to who?" She questioned innocently. Percy looked up at her and shook his head with a forced smile.
"It's nothing, just trying to figure some stuff out," He could tell she was about to push it further so he stood up abruptly and stretched with a loud yawn, "come on, let's go find Zoë before she gets even more pissed at me for sleeping in."
He offered a hand down to her, which she accepted without hesitation. Once on her feet Percy turned and was about to leave when Annabeth tightened her grip on his hand and stopped him.
Percy glanced at her questioningly, and she dropped his hand while giving him an almost pitied smile.
"Just so you know Percy, I don't hate you," She stated, Percy wasn't under the assumption she did but it was comforting hearing her say it.
"I feared you, when you first showed up, but then I realized it doesn't really matter what you are, just who you are. If you're willing to go on a quest with a huntress who tried to kill you and openly despises you just to save a goddess... her goddess no less... well that speaks loads about your character." As much as he hated to admit it, Annabeth's words lifted a load off his shoulders and he couldn't stop himself from engulfing the surprised girl in a hug. She stiffened briefly before returning the hug.
They remained embraced for several seconds before Percy broke it off with an embarrassed look on his face.
"Uhm... sorry," He said sheepishly while rubbing the back of his neck, "You're just the first person to actually look past the whole mutant thing and acknowledge me as a person."
Annabeth smiled softly and gave Percy one more quick hug before they both began to leave the cart.
Percy followed behind her and thought back to the night before. There was one thing he was sure of now. As far as he was concerned, Annabeth held his only shred of loyalty at the moment.
It may seem stupid to pick a side off of one simple conversation, but nobody else had treated him as a person yet.
Luke enjoyed sparring with him, and they had their moments together, but he was no fool. He knew Chiron was the reason they trained together. Chiron had high hopes for them both and wanted to see them both excel.
Speaking of the old centaur. Percy knew he cared at least somewhat for him, but he also knew the teacher wanted him to grow as a warrior who fought on their side, and part of Percy felt he viewed him as a tool even if it wasn't true.
Shaking the thought away he joined Annabeth and Zoë at the open doors of the cart they were in. The train was slowing down, that much was for sure, they were somewhere Percy had never been as far as he knew. Actually he didn't think anyone had been here in a long time.
They were in the middle of nowhere in a desert as far as he could tell. A small town was in front of them, but the 'buildings' were all small wooden shacks in shambles at this point.
"Zeus is getting angry," Zoë broke the silence, "This is as far as Apollo can take us."
They stepped off the train, which began to glow brightly before disappearing along with all traces of it.
Percy shrugged his shoulders and walked towards the town.
Annabeth quickly caught up shouting out, "Hey! Wait up!"
Zoë, after scanning the area and deciding there wasn't a better option, followed them both into the odd town.
As they neared it, Percy froze, staring straight at the building in front of them.
Both other questers paused and looked back and forth between him and the building in concern. Percy finally opened his mouth to speak when a wall on the side burst into wooden shrapnel and a large cyclops stumbled out.
The trio jumped in shock and prepared to attack, but before they could a boy jumped from the wreckage and clung to the giants beefy neck.
"Ellie!" He screamed out, "Take it out!" The trio stared on in shock as a girl emerged from the ruins of the building and lunged forward with a yell, hurtling a spear and nailing the cyclops right in the eye.
The monster immediately disintegrated into golden dust with one final roar. Leaving the exhausted duo laying in its ashes.
Annabeth and Percy rushed up to them with Zoë hesitantly following. She couldn't place it but something felt off.
"Holy shit!" Percy exclaimed, catching the attention of the cyclops-slaying duo, "that was awesome!"
The boy chuckled and stood to help the girl up as well. They were both blonde, with shimmering blue eyes.
Zoë's eyes narrowed when he looked them in the eyes, something still felt... off.
"Thanks, my name is Jack, and this is my sister Ellie. She had a dream that we should come out here, but we weren't entirely sure why," He finished with a shrug.
Annabeth, who appeared deep in thought, suddenly spoke up.
"It must have been your parent! They knew we would be here and sent you here so you could come back to camp with us." Jack and Ellie gave her a weird look while Ellie shook her head.
"Uhm, our mom definitely didn't tell us to come out here and our dad is dead so." Ellie explained.
Now Percy's eyes lit up as he realized what was going on, "Your father isn't dead... this is going to sound weird as hell but... your father is a god."
Jack and Ellia both glanced at each other before chuckling. It started humorously but after a moment it turned dark, and the questers started to become uncomfortable.
Jack wiped a tear from his eye and caught his breath, "Oh I can't sis, I tried but it's too funny."
Zoë's hands twitched for her bow. Percy and Annabeth watched the pair in confusion.
Ellie looked away from the her brother and stared at the trio, her head tilting sideways to an almost unnatural angle.
"Come on," she began, "Be weary of those in the land without rain." Jack lunged forward, his nails extending to talons as he slashed at Annabeth first. The girl couldn't react in time, his claws beginning to tear through her chest before he was violently sent flying back.
Percy stood in the spot he just was. Claws extended and a mad look in his, now seemingly glowing, yellow eyes.
His mind was blank, focused on one thing and one thing only.
Kill
The instinct was unbeatable and without thinking he was running at Jack who met him with a smile.
Percy lunged from several feet away with his claws stretched out but Jack simply caught his wrists and used his momentum to slam him down into the dirt.
"Come now Perseus," Jack said with a sinister smile, "Don't fight me.. Join me." Percy growled and shot to his feet. Taking a brief moment to notice Zoë was holding her own against Ellie, while Annabeth was laying near them in a crumpled heap.
Without responding Percy went at Jack again, who simply sighed and batted away his claws with expert aim. Percy ducked under a strike from Jack and shot up, slamming his metal skull into the bottom of Jack's chin.
The man launched Percy back with a kick while rubbing his jaw.
"Impressive, I think you broke it." Percy watched and felt a sickening feeling creep into his stomach as Jack's jaw snapped back into place. The immediate bruise Percy's jaw had left already beginning to fade. During the process his blue eyes began to flicker and slowly became replaced by a dark yellow similar to Percy's own.
"Yo-You're like me?" Percy stuttered out. Jack smiled that same sinister smile while stretching a hand out towards Percy.
"Stop all this fighting and join me... brother."
A/N: I feel like that was a lot for one chapter, but the main focus of this story is going to be Percy and finding out his story so I figured this would fill in some holes and also make even more questions
I'll be updating more frequently so make sure to follow and favorite, and leave a review if you notice any plot holes or mistakes it's been a while since I've wrote for this story and I want to make sure I didn't contradict myself at all!
